Fish was good but the chips were disgusting they were hard and look like they have been sitting around in dirty oil. Will look at going elsewhere

Awful experience won’t be coming back, staff members bickering over the price in front of me, embarrassing.

Cod and chips eaten in a back room desperately needing to be brought int the 21st century .The cod was as flat as a if it were a flat fish and it seemed it had come out of a freezer .The chips of which were very few were lacking in much that was nice and full but crispy instead .couldn't get out quick enough.

The best fish&chips I've had and the portions are massive great value for money.

This place does massive portions at a good price .Not that great but does tasteing some times staff don't talk much English but if u don't have lot money and wont chips so on its a good place for that parking not so good

decent down to earth local chippy, prices are a bit cheaper then the average and vast majority of the time you will get served instantly. food quality in the past was fairly average but in the last few months has shot up dramatically for both the fish and the chips sold here so in light of the change i would now recommend them. only sticking point i would have is that often the salt is not distributed very evenly over the chips but you can just close the box and give it a good shake and its not an issue

Have used this place several times recently and every time the food has been great. Large piece of crispy battered fish and huge portions of really tasty chips that are obviously made with good quality potatoes. The small portion of fish and chips at £6 is great value for money and you get plenty...more than enough for a adult! Highly recommended.

Very greasy and soggy not the best I've had. Paper soaked I grease too, had fish and chips and couldnt even eat it all from fear of being ill, tasted like it was precooked and the microwaved, shame.

We ordered, battered sausage and chips fish cake and chips and a peice of fish and curry sauce. The fish and sausage were already cooked in the heaters and the batters was soggy and stale and the grease was nasty. Curry sauce was running and had no flavour. The chips were actually nice and a good portion. Shame about the rest. I wouldn't reccomend

Reason for 2 stars is chips overdone and not as nice as before. Staff should be cooking at same quality but unfortunately not.

Decent chips, fast service and reasonably priced. Have seen some less favourable reviews but I speak as I find and the chips were better than the jolly average ones we had from another chip shop nearby.

We had some cheesy chips here, takeaway we sat down in the square and started to eat are Meal well the amount of cheese was excellent, but the chips looked as I they were scraps, only 6 proper chips, and this cost £4.50. Never again will we visit this place, how can people rate it high.ITS ONE TO AVOID

very rude staff, asked for 2 medium cod and chips, was grunted at that it take 5-6 minutes (i didnt see thr problem waiting that time) and rolled his eyes at me, the customers infront got the same responce. when i took the boxes out of the bag, greade poured out of one box, it wad everywhere, tried to mop it up with the paper wrapping but not much luck, fish was full of grease and really soggy which then ran all over the chips, couldnt eat it all. avoid this place, wish id quede at the other place.

Chips are always undercooked, sausages tasted nasty, I was very disappointed with our meal. I wouldn't use them again at all, it's a shame because it used to be such an amazing chippy now it's shocking.

The fish and chips can vary here. My last fish was a bit overcooked but you get served much quicker than other shops so sometimes speed can be the essence! At other times the fish n chips can be delicious.

Look avoid this place , I did for many years but with nowhere else open and me promising to bring fish and chips home to the Mrs and kid I had no choice. First of all they completely forgot a main from my meal the jumbo sausage . My girlfriend had the cod and said it was ok apart from the 5 bones she found in it . And it was all cold ! Worst fish and chips I've ever had. Neither were cooked fresh so both tasted soggy and old. Asked for extra vinegar and got extra salt too so that didnt help. Avoid.

We visited this cafe in May and thought it was good we revisited in October whilst on holiday but it want the same service I ordered a jacket potato with plain tuna the potato was just warm and the tuna was tasteless. My husbands chips were scrappy with black bits in them not good.

Ordered the large fish and chips if we had known how big the fish would be we would have ordered the medium lovely batter and fish that tasted like fish should thought the cans of pop were a little on the dear side but the fish and chips were very good value They also had very clean facilities as well. Would have been nice to see the fish fryers in white overalls. Had i read the reviews first i would not have gone there but found it to be very good

Had fish & chips in this place, cheap, but definitely won't be returning just about eatable, seemed to be clean, good for wheelchairs, plenty of room & decent toilets, just need to work on their food, only went there because they were cheaper then the one on the front, a lot of seating out side, could be a gold mine.

The best fish n chip shop in teignmouth now since its upgrade the chimps are luscious golden brown with salt and vinegar drizzled and sprinkled on top but not to mention the glorious portion sizes with the mountain of fresh cheese what more could you want for 1 pound! The owner (Igor Ragnachaev) is an extremely nice, modest bloke with an undying passion for the holy Nippy Chippy -Lord Charlesworth -Amen

I really don't like leaving a bad review anywhere as I know people always try their best, but i think I have no choice in this case. We ordered three of the specials (small fish and chips) but instead got three large fish and chips which we were then charged full price for as they decided we needed the big option! I don't like people making choices for me at the best of times. This might have been passable had it been good but to be honest I thought the chips tasted like the previous day's reheated chips.

Ordered cheesy chips, cheese tasted strange and the chips tasted like cardboard. After eating a few i discovered that the cheese was actually mouldy so that was a really nice surprise... safe to say they went straight in the nearest bin and i went home feeling quite sick. Probably best to avoid this one

Last time I went there it wasn't very nice and wouldn't go again , was given the wrong order too but didn't bother complaining and the chips were not the best to be honest.

Worst meal I ever had, Chips cold and did not look good at all, refused to try the chicken as the chips looked so bad and ask for money back. Got no sorry about the food and found the man rude. Please DONT go there if you do it is at your own risk. Had to give 1 star as it won’t let me do no stars

This is not the only fish and chip shop that we like in Teignmouth, but the food and service are great, the amosphere is great and being pensioners, we really appreciate the really reasonable prices.

Ordered my fish & chips from the grumpiest, surliest proprietor I've ever encountered. Went to sit at a table outside, realised I didn't have a fork so went back inside to get one. Mr Grumpy shouted at me for leaving the food unattended as the seagulls would take it. As it turned out the gulls weren't remotely interested - obviously they'd tasted it before. The batter on the fish was greasy, thick and doughy. The fish inside was dry and tough. Chips would have been passable if it wasn't for the disgusting taste of the vinegar... can vinegar go off? All-in-all a luke-warm, sad excuse for fish & chips. NOT recommended!!

We live local and have used the Central fish bar a few times but after our last horrendous experience we will never use this place again. We ordered 2 jacket potatoes with cheese but I watched one of the staff cut the cooked potato in half he could see that the potato was bad but stilled covered it with cheese to hide it. The other potato was not cooked fully and had raw lumps inside, again covered with cheese.With the order there was 4 lots of fish and chips but 2 of them were so badly over cooked that we had to break open the batter with our hands, the fish was basically non exsistant. The other 2 portions the fish had over cooked dark brown batter on it the fish was extremely dark and had a horrible taste. THE WORST FISH & CHIPS WE HAVE EVER HAD

We should have been wary when there was no one in the restaurant but we ordered place and chips, the fish was defrosted in the microwave and dipped in the batter, when it was deep fried the batter was rock hard, the chips not very good either, I thought at least it was Heinz tomato sauce - no it wasnt , it was just the bottle! Not a nice meal.

I went in here because my usual fish and chip shop was closed and i really wanted some chips. I had seen from friends that the portions were huge so i went in with my friend. As my friend walked out he was shouted at by the man behind the counter. I didn't understand what the man said. When I ordered my chips the man said nothing as he made them apart from a swift "Salt vinegar?" at the end in a demanding tone. As he put the salt and vinegar on he completely missed the chips. Later on as I ate the chips i came across a completely black, soggy chip. To be completely honest I'm not too sure if it was even a chip. The portion was pretty big and the chips tasted ok but I felt guilty the entire time after eating them. I was also very put off by the huge scab on the man's face. He was also not wearing any gloves or an apron. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

As i walked in he gave me a look as if he were the devil, halfway through dumping my chips in the box he caught a fly and threw it in the fryer! He then asked "saltvinegar?" to which i responded, "yes, please" he completely missed! And when i tried to get some more the man shouted, SHOO, SHOO, no sauce (even though i don't like tomato sauce and was getting salt). After that my friend got some, he didn't have much of a problem (only a little shouting but that's to be expected) and to our HORROR he found the scorched body of the FLY! THE FLY! From earlier, how horrible and NEVER again. And to make it even worse i was sick in my bed and almost choked on it. Many thanks, Central

3 blackboards were advertising various menu's but were NOT clear as to which were eat in or which were Take away. I asked a member of staff for one selection & was told that's a takeaway you need the dearer one to eat in. Rating on window was 5 but I would expected this to only be about a 3. Staff were not wearing apron's or anything of that nature. Staff were not pleased when offering a note to pay asking "You not got right money" quite rude really. Batter was so thick & soggy quite unpleasant to eat. Also toilets were out of order.

Well, what can I say. My wife ordered takeaway Fish & Chips for each of us. We took them to the sea front, sat on a bench to enjoy the view and the Fish & Chips. The chips were the worst ever, and we are still unsure what the fish was, certainly not Haddock as requested, and the batter resembled very poor doughnut mix!! Needless to say, they ended up in the nearest bin!

A spur of the moment visit to Teignmouth with our good friends The Van Browners found us in town around lunchtime. Most of the other chippies were closed but this place was open with the doors open to welcome us. The worker helped us through the menu and we placed our order. We then found a seat outside and the chap gave us a shout when it was ready. I had a large donner meat with chips. A good sized portion and piping hot. Im surprised at all the negative reviews on here, I've eaten at many a chippy and kebab house and this was alright. Certainly worthy of a higher rating than the 2.5 TA rating in my opinion. If I find myself in Teignmouth again I would certainly eat here again without hesitation.

If you could give less than terrible then I would have rated it as this. Please do not waste your money. We sadly tried the burgers and the fish all of which can very loosely be described as food. The chips could have been cardboard for all the taste there was. Salt and vinegar could not lift them and the unhygienic sauce bottles were enough to turn the hardiest stomach! Waitress rude abrupt and surly, actually cross with myself for ordering anything when everything was saying walk out! Spent nearly £30 which I might as well have flushed down the toilet. Do yourself a favour avoid like the plague.

I've tried the worst fish and chips ever at this place. It was totally tasteless. Try to cook the fish to order not hold it under the lights until the next customer comes in. Try to not speak foreign language at front of the customer because it's disrespectful in any situation. I would be really surprised if they stay open without any big changes. NOT RECOMMENDED

The dirt in the place should have given us the first clue. Chips were pale and soggy, the fish wasn't much better.

Unsure what we wanted to eat, we decided as it was chilly we wanted something hot rather than a sandwich and had planned on perhaps some hot chips. We chose the Central Fish n Chip shop because it was not just a take away so we could sit and eat if we wanted.There was a pension fish and chip meal for £3 each and we thought it was going to be a small portion each which was fine. However the plate of food was an excellent size, the fish was nicely cooked and tasty (although I did not eat much of the batter coating it) and the chips were also a good portion and hot. All in all we were very surprised and delighted to have found it.This was especially true as we saw the prices of fish and chips elsewhere!Would I recommend? I would.We were there yesterday, Thursday, 22nd Oct 2015.

Arrived in teignmouth after a 4 hour drive and decided on takeaway for our evening meal. Six people all having fish and chips. Food excellent but portions enormous. Grandparents had the pensioners portions and could have managed with one between them. Good quality fish and chips and excellent value for money.

Nice & sunny on our last day of holiday so we both fancied fish & chips before our journey home, the newly opened Wetherspoon around the corner was offering a waiting time of up to an hour so we came in here, no-one sat at their many tables should have set the warning bell ringing but time was getting on so in we went, 3 blokes stood talking behind the counter & after standing there for a few moments one of them came over, this fella appeared to have little or no English (or cant be bothered) in his vocab so i asked for cod & chips twice, we decided to sit in so we went to a table about half way back in the dining area, stark white walls & lots of pine furniture and again no one in here, we both opened the trays our "food" was in and straight away it was obvious it was not good, the chips were just......grey & awful looking excuses for what was once a potato BUT the fish oh my god the fish! it was like a grease saturated sponge! how long ago this was prepared & cooked who knows, i peeled back the grease soaked batter, no crispness here just wet soggy anemic nastiness, the the fish inside was just as grease soaked so why i even put this muck in my mouth & tried to eat it i will never know! straight away the bitter grease taste came out, i looked at my wife & i could see she was as disturbed as myself at this mess in front of us, i could feel it not sitting in my stomach well so i said dont eat this, as polite as she is it wasn't good so we took both trays back to the counter, i said to the 3 men behind the counter to put this rubbish in the bin to which they did not seem surprised, and we left & to get rid of the awful taste we went to get a coffee & pasty from Warrens bakery (wish we went here 1st).previous reviews mirror the experience we had of this place & anything said showing a positive experience can only be very rare or of questionable validity, to knowingly serve food of such poor standard is completely wrong so go here at your own peril.Simpy the worst Fish & Chips ever!

Called in for dinner with the wife and niece. We ordered cod and chips twice and a pie and chips. The chips where ok but could have been better and the pie looked ok. But the fish was terrible it was full of fat and grease and the batter was soft and soggy. If you eat in, the place is on the scruffy side and mind the floor as it was very slippery under foot. Not the best chippy in town, could do better

The first thing I have to say is that I was walking past with a few friends one day and the guy behind the counter was picking his nose... Put me off for life.Before that the only good thing about here was the portion size, lots of food for not a lot of money but the quality was always pants. Soggy, lukewarm chips and they're very stingy with salt and vinegar and seemed annoyed when I asked for more.Quite inappropriate the server making sexual remarks and I was a little creeped out as all the men behind the counter were staring at me as I ordered my food.Never will I ever go here again.

Okay it was carnival day so probably busier than normal. Just went for sausage and chips for convenience but glad we didn't splash out for fish judging by what we got! Greasy half cooked soggy chips with black bits (bad potatoes ) and a battered sausage of dubious origin, even I threw some of mine away which is unheard of. The queuing system (if there is such a thing) is chaotic. Considering the prime location I expected better - probably because the majority of customers are visitors it's considered acceptable to serve poor quality food as people are unlikely to come back again- we certainly won't!
