I’ve been to Bakewell several times, and never even knew this was here. I stumbled across it whilst wandering around town waiting for the bus But it has everything you need after a long day hiking. It’s big enough you could do your weekly shop here. I went around 6pm on a thursday night, and it was mostly empty So if you want to pick up supplies before going hiking, or want something to eat or drink after a long day hiking, this place will have pretty much anything you’d need

Excellent choice of food. I never knew you coukd buy Staffordshire and Cheddleton Cheese. Oatcakes can not only be found in Staffordshire, this Co-op sells Derbyshire Oatcakes, you learn something new every day.

This is the only big supermarket of Bakewell. Big team of staff, helpful and friendly. Shelves full of stock. Clean and tidy store. There’s a big cafe inside as well. nice seating area so you can have breakfast or lunch. Perfect central location and just close to river.

Large store however it is cramped and not laid out well. The queueing area is not clearly marked which leads to queues blocking the paths through the store. Staff member at the tobacco / fast track counter had horrific customer service. As soon as my husband put our items on the counter (only non restricted items, a juice, a coffee and a sandwich) and greeted her politely she immediately demanded to see his ID. She then spent a long time looking between his picture and him as if trying to find something wrong with this. Only after this did he ask for cigarettes. She then asked me for my ID just for standing next to him even though I was not the one buying it. She refused to serve my husband then as I did not carry my ID and did not care when we pointed out that my husband was well of age and we were married. My husband and I are both clearly over the age of 30. At this point we just left without buying anything.

The Co-operative in Bakewell is a lovely store with a great selection of quality products. I particularly recommend the Cook range of frozen meals. The only downside is that the produce shelving can be a little bare at times. Otherwise, it's a reliable spot for groceries.

MORE AT Google

Venturing into the Co-op in Bakewell, nestled in the heart of the Peak District, I embarked on a quest of utmost importance: to procure cream for the sacred Bakewell puddings and a rubber to erase the overzealous detective work in my murder mystery puzzle book. Expectations were not just met, but gloriously surpassed. Navigating the aisles, I found my treasures with ease, a testament to the Co-op's unexpected enchantment. But the real plot twist awaited by the exit—a veritable Narnia of drinks machines that would make even the most stoic of shoppers giddy. From Reese's peanut hot chocolate that whispered sweet nothings to my soul, to soft yogurt dispensers that promised a creamy utopia, it was a finale grander than any detective's revelation. This Co-op was not the usual suspect; it was the best I've ever encountered, transforming a mundane shopping trip into an adventure as satisfying as solving the final clue in a whodunit. In the often underwhelming world of supermarket visits, this Co-op in Bakewell was a plot twist I didn't see coming, leaving me both impressed and slightly in awe of its beverage dispensing prowess. Five stars for the cream, the eraser, and the unexpected joy of drink machines that serve more plot twists than my puzzle book.

Myself and my husband are big fans of coop generally. Great produce and good prices. However coop in Bakewell has been a big disappointment. Without fail there are no baskets on the racks coming into the shop from the car park area. You have to go hunting them out from in front of the tills. If you are shopping outside of busy hours and have to use the kiosk during these times, the staff are rude and unfriendly with merely a grunt and point to which till is in service. This has been our experience 3 times that we have been in there. We will shop elsewhere whenever possible in future.

I don't appreciate going to co-op just to hear a member of staff very loudly complaining about how young people are all are lazy and pathetic and insinuating how mental health issues aren't real. Disgusting behaviour when we are living in a cost of living crisis and so many people especially young people and students are struggling massively to survive. Tell your staff to keep their bigoted opinions to themself 🩷

Cuz everything is so cheap!!😊😊 And I love the service of staff! He was soo patient to me. Many times the machine was showing wrong price and I called him many times. But he was always nice. And even he told me not to buy the banana that is spoiled already. He put it back at its place. I forgot his name but he deserves a raise!😊 Also you can go to toilet that is located at cafe of the coop and you can go to the lake that is just 100 meters. This is my new fav place.

The co op is so much nicer since its face-lift. Just feels more up market and with it. It can't compete with Aldi, so it sells other, different stuff which means I go in when I want something that Aldi don't have. Thought we'd give the Insomnia coffee shop in Bakewell a try. It is situated on the ground floor of the Co-op, an easy distance from the river and very popular 'love-locks' Bridge. It was quite busy; service took a while. Our coffees were okay, not great, but the cake, the Ultimate Brownie, was excellent. Being a part of a busy supermarket, it doesn't have quite the same relaxed atmosphere of a dedicated coffee shop, but we wish them well.

Having first visited in May we decided to have lunch again as a family when I was in the area in October. We visited on a Wednesday afternoon and it wasn’t overly busy so nice and quiet to chat. Two of us picked the lasagne with a side of onion rings to share and the other meal was again the Hunter’s chicken. There was a bit of a wait for the meals to arrive but nobody minds waiting for freshly cooked food. Second time around and we were not disappointed as the high standards we enjoyed on our first visit were on display again. Piping hot, well presented and tasty lunches were thoroughly enjoyed but all three of us and the onion rings were excellent too. Clean plates all round and washed down with a nice pint and a lemon and lime. Walk off your lunch at Carsington which is just down the road! Really enjoyed our lunch so well done to all involved.

The Cavendish takes its name from the illustrious family that has occupied Chatsworth. It's located in the former stables--there were a lot of horses back in the day! I thought my arancini appetizer was delicious even though the tomato sauce was not made with fresh tomatoes. I was disillusioned when I saw the same arancini at the Farm Shop deli. The vegetable garniture for the lamb had been sautéed too much and had a charred taste. Parboiling and a quick sauté in butter or olive oil would have been better. While service was up to par for such elegant surroundings it could be improved by more attention to detail such as uncorking the water decanter, moving the sugar bowl within reach of the guest, and never leaving the reception area unattended at any time. Actually I got the impression that they were understaffed. I couldn't see the rest of the dining room and perhaps they were swamped. That would explain things. I assume Chatsworth will not find these comments too fussy as the follow up visit questionnaire is quite long and detailed.

We ended up staying for lunch when the rest of the family returned from their bike ride. Lovely area selling gifts, books etc. A section of the car park is free for 2 hours if using the cafe or shop and pay and display elsewhere for bike hire etc. Would call again if in the area.
