10 / 10 a Max.

I visited here with friends in January 2016 and the food, drink, everything was fabulous. So, for my friends hen party, I decided to book here again for a large party of 30 ladies. I had provisionally booked this with the manager and agreed that I would get back to him with final numbers.Once I had the final numbers I contacted the manager via email and did not get a response. When I rang I was told that the manager had left and I was talking to his replacement. I went through the booking with him and he said he would send me a set menu.I collected 30 menu choices, emailed it to the new manager. No response.I rang the manager to pay deposit - said would call me back. Didn't call me back.Another 2 weeks passed and still no response/call. So I emailed him to cancel the booking. Still no response/acknowledgement.Terrible customer service.

As a gin bar, this place is pretty great. As a restaurant it's overpriced and average.Great secluded subterranean venue - cool room, cool beats and a subtle hit of woodsmoke hits you as you enter.Very friendly staff, with the manager spending a lot of time with us choosing us one of 200 gins and several tonics combinations on offer.Could have spent hours doing that, but we had to eat. The food was average at best. Which is a shame, because the venue promotes itself on the INKA charcoal oven in the centre of the kitchen. But the charcoal flavour wasn't really imparted on the food.Salt fish croquettes and chicken croquettes to start - decent. Rump steak to follow - average. Only average. But, we will definitely be back to spend a few hours in the gin bar - one the city's hidden gems.

I was planning a hen do for up to 15 ladies, called and spoke to Tony who advised me they could accommodate and would email me drinks packages the following day (Monday). Monday night arrived and nothing so I rang and left a voice mail asking for the email. Tuesday 1pm I called and spoke to Stephen and he confirmed that my booking was in the book and apologised and assured me he would get Tony to call after 6pm that day, I said that's great that we're in the book as I had not had confirmation from Tony that the table was booked. I said at least we have the tab booked but if Tony could email drinks packages though that would be great. 10pm and no call so I called again and got answerphone so left a message. Wednesday 1pm I call again and yet again Tony not available but was again told they would get Tony to email. Wednesday at 17:20 received email and so posted it on my events page on FB and the girls were happy to go with it. I replied to Tony's email on the Friday lunch confirming and that we would be there from about 10:30 and that we were only a few doors away so not far to come.Turned up just before 11pm and was told sorry no tables available, I said it's okay as I have booked through the manager Tony. The guy said I am Tony are you Caroline and I said yes, he said we have no table as you didn't confirm, to which I replied I not only replied to his email but that on Tuesday Stephen confirmed my booking was in the diary. Tony merely shrugged and said he didn't get my email. Absolutely disgusting in light of all the ringing I had done and even though not one but two of his staff had confirmed my booking was in the diary and he had NOT ONCE returned any of my calls. Neither me nor any of my party will 'attempt' to visit this place again. Luckily another bar had just had a table become available, as I am sure you will agree not easy to get somewhere last minute when there are a large group of you, and we had a fab evening. Tony at cedar Gin and Fire I suggest you re consider your customer service skills as they clearly were nowhere to be seen during my contact with you. 0 rating.

A great find. Well designed and laid out. Service was very good - especially the bar staff and the meat was cooked extremely well with just the right amount of finesse added to the dishes without any unnecessary fussiness. The drinks are excellent - by which i mean the gin. The bar staff were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The only reason 5 stars haven't been obtained is that a large hen party came for dinner and whilst not overtly raucous they were very noisy - as any group of 16 friends would be. For perfection, had the restaurant let me know this was on the cards prior to attending perhaps we would have come in a little earlier and would have vacated the restaurant by their arrival or even perhaps on another day; meaning they could have had the restaurant area entirely to themselves (bar one other couple dining like us).

Interesting venue, as the entrance down a set of stairs could easily be missed. Welcoming atmosphere with friendly bar staff, waiters and waitresses. Our party had mixed reviews of the food. Lamb was a definite hit, steak 1 was perfect the other fatty! Most disappointing was the fish, muscles were ' gritty' and wouldn't have them again. Need to sort out the extractor fan in kitchen, as smoke tended to be rather intense. No desert menu, no coffees offered. I would go back for drinks but sadly not food.

This was our second visit - having enjoyed fantastic duck last time we were here, this time the lamb rump and shoulder blew us away - possibly the tastiest lamb we've ever eaten. Clearly this is becoming a popular destination for general grill and steaks, but the main menu is full of fabulous, adventurous dishes of extremely high quality. Drinks (gin and wine) also excellent. And it should also be said that there is a terrific sense of personal investment in the business from all involved - great service and genuine enthusiasm for what is going on. Desserts were off again on Saturday, but the cheese board was so good that there were no complaints from us. Great, unique venue - wonderful for the city.

Got this place via opentable. Was quite quiet and the entrance down a set of stairs is perhaps slightly off-putting. Once inside though it is a very nice bar/restaurant. The menu was slightly short on choice but all food was very good and well presented. The menu was a 2- course offering with a decent drinks selection and a huge gin selection. After the main course we asked about a dessert. We were offered a choice of 2 (cheese or trifle). We had one of each and we're both very tasty. Only point was there as no biscuits with the cheese but there was enough apple and grapes to make it not a big deal. We were told there would be a delay of about 15 mins for the dessert and we said that was ok since we weren't in a hurry. Staff kept us up to date at all times and after the dessert we were told they were comping the dessert since we had to wait. We argued with them that it was ok as we weren't in a hurry but they insisted. Staff were fantastic and friendly at all times. With the desserts knocked off we had a 3-course evening meal with a couple of drinks for £45. No, that isn't a typo!We will definitely return to this restaurant and would thoroughly recommend to others

I thoroughly enjoyed our family celebratory dinner at Cedar Gin & Fire - on Grand National Day. After extremely well assembled and delicious gin-based cocktails (very reasonably priced) we sat down and selected from an intriguing and imaginative menu. We first enjoyed a toasted appetiser with lamb butter which was amazing. My grilled Herdwick lamb rump was not 'baa ad' - absolutely exquisite taste and beautifully presented. Chips to die for! My wife had PHOM Tea smoked mackerel as a starter which she declared to be the best starter she had had for many years. Our son had the Old Gloucester pork dish which he clearly also really enjoyed. I can go on with the superlatives. We were so full that we shared a portion of trifle rather than go without pudding - again absolutely delicious. Throughout our visit the staff were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable - just right - and the chefs obviously took enormous pride in what they were putting on our plates. We shall return next time that we are in Liverpool. Five star rating for food, beverages, service, value for money and ambience. Well done the team at Cedar Gin and Fire.

Visited here for a friends Birthday meal, the food was delicious, I would agree with other reviews in regard to the portion sizes are a little small, that being said the quality and presentation makes up for it, the delivery of the food was efficient, the selection on the menu is limited, although for the size of the place itself it is enough, the restaurant itself has a feel of a Gothic corridor with big dividing doors, the decor and mood is really charming, the staff could not be helpful enough, the gins on offer sampled were just a delight. The only small points for me are the position of the hand dryer in the mens toilets needs to be repositioned away from the door, the menu as indicated is enough although slightly I feel a little expensive for the portion sizes, these are minor though I could not fault anything else here would really happily return to try out more gin, more food in this below ground marvel.

Had heard great things about his place and was really looking forward to my visit. Upon arrival at 8pm on Saturday night, the restaurant was surprisingly quiet. Only one other table was occupied. Our waitress allowed us to choose where sat. When the menus arrived, we were again surprised at the lack of choice. Only four starters and five mains. Of the five mains, the lamb was unavailable. Our waitresses were very pleasant and gave some good advice on which gin and tonics to choose. We waited ages for our starters to arrive. When they did finally arrive, the food was nice, but nothing spectacular and the portions were disappointingly small. The mains also took an annoyingly long time to arrive, especially considering only two tables were in the restaurant. Despite this, the main courses were delicious. Again, however, the portions were very small and we were still hungry after having finished, We were not offered a dessert menu. When the bill arrived, we felt it was expensive for what we had had. In summary, venue was nice, atmosphere was quiet, waitresses were very pleasant and knowledgeable. Food was good, but portions were far too meagre and the service was too slow. It was also expensive. As I wrote in the title of this review, there were some good aspects, but our evening was ultimately rather disappointing.

went to this bar/restaurant to redeem a living social voucher and was very impressed. Just a few minor details that stopped me from giving it 5 out 5 but will definitely go back there again.good points - the waitress was fantastic, she was extremely knowledgeable about their products & service and an absolute credit to the company! the starters and mains were absolutely delicious, nice decor and comfortable surroundings, great selection of gin and fantastically presentedroom for improvement - portion sizes a little on the small size and veg is charged as extra (making the food pricey if not using a voucher), kitchen service very slow resulting in food not being as hot as could be, dessert menu needs some work, the venue does not particularly stand out and could be very easily missed when walking/driving pastoverall i would (& have already) recommend this place to friends and family for either food or simply a nice relaxed drink. i would also return as a customer myself. the company need to be careful not to price themselves out of the market foodwise tho given their edge of town location and competition.again special mention to the waitress on the night who worked extremely hard and was very professional, had it not been for her personality & work ethic the experience could have been soured by the slow service from the kitchen.

I booked to go here on Saturday using a Living Social deal and I must say I was pleasantly surprised as it was very enjoyable. Enjoyable in respects of the service (our waitress Charlotte was quite delightful and friendly) the ambience was warm and inviting and the food quite delicious. We would definitely go again as it was a quite delightful meal and place and the gin that came with the deal was very nice too. I think Cedar Gin and Fire could have an excellent future in Liverpool with their warm service delicious food, interesting menu and welcoming milieu. I take my hat off to you Cedar Gin and Fire

Probably the best meal my husband and I have eaten out in ages! Deliciously cooked pheasant leg for starters followed by rump of Hereford beef that was cooked absolutely to perfection accompanied by a selection of vegetables and jus that complimented the meal perfectly. Ended the meal with a spiced apple crème brulee that was perfection itself! Add to this a good selection of gins that are served with a smile makes this a truly marvellous find!

Amazing food. Really tasty soup and the beef fat butter was amazing! Fillet beef was perfect. Croquettes get a thumbs up and was surprised at how nice the bread and butter pudding was. Considering everything was made from scratch, there wasn't a long wait for food and the waitress was brilliant. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. You must go to get through the gin list too!

We went to Cedar Gin and Fire using a Living Social voucher, we were warmly greeted and this friendly helpful attitude continued throughout the whole evening. The menu was a restricted one but the food was exceptionally good. To start three of us had the honey roasted parsnip soup and the other had partridge and pancetta, we all oohed and aahed over the flavours and quality of the cooking, for main courses two shared chateaubriand which was so tender and tasty and was accompanied with truffled chips, blue cheese fritters and charred tomato, one had half a pheasant which was moist and not overcooked as pheasant so often is and the other had a large plate of mushroom risotto. The full price would have been quite expensive but was on a par with, if not better than, many top end well established restaurants. Our waitress, Charlotte, was really friendly, chatty, helpful and efficient. All in all thius is a must place to visit

My wife loves her gin so I was really pleased to find this place close to our hotel and dinner reservation.First impression from the street was that the place might be a bit grubby as the steps (Cedar is a cellar bar) needed weeding and there was some rubbish outside. Our welcome was very warm and the place was nicely decorated. There was a large selection of gins and the barman was very helpful in explaining about each of them. He was also helpful when I asked about some of the lager they had. It was quite pricy but the experience we had was lovely so we didn't mind paying a bit extra. The food looked very nice and would go back and try them for dinner should we return to Liverpool.

For the past two weeks we have spent our Saturday evening at Cedar, having various Gins to relax us before the meal, and enjoying a totally different menu each night. In fact I'm disappointed I have a staff party on and can't go back tonight! We weren't in a rush and were able to chat to other friends in the restaurant who were also returning for a second and third visit. We have sampled the Gin cured salmon, home made black pudding (amazing), fabulous Hake and Halibut cooked to perfection, and a duck confit starter which I want to sample next time. Garlic samphire...amazing. My only disappointment was that we were too late to order the sirloin of beef with rillettes, as it looked delicious, and I hope it is on the menu again soon. The chef, Josh, has obviously experienced a broad range of culinary techniques in his training, and its great to see it all being created in front of you. For such high quality food the prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. Next Saturday maybe....

Having heard great things about this place I was really looking forward to my visit. We decided to go here prior to a gig at The Phil so booked a table for 5pm. First impressions were good as it's a really nice space. I ordered a beer and waited for my friends to arrive and checked out the menu. They arrived and ordered 3 large gins, then we waited and waited, I finished my beer and asked for a gin as well before being shown to our table. As soon as we sat down we noticed the table was wonky, the waitress tried to fix it but seeing as we were the only people in the restaurant we suggested we just move to another table. Eventually out drinks arrived, and just as we settled down to peruse the menu we were asked to move to another table. Despite nobody else being in the place we agreed and moved to our 3rd table of the evening. I ordered the rabbit confit to start and my friends all ordered the langoustine. When they finally arrived we were all totally underwhelmed. My rabbit was delicious but there was hardly any of it, maybe 4 mouthfuls but the langoustine dish had to be seen to be believed. One small pathetic looking prawn swimming in what my friend described as Pot Noodle gravy all for £8.50. These langoustine had obviously been on some sort of diet. Then we waited for our mains, and waited and waited. We ordered more drinks and the waitress recommend on particular gin that was served with an olive when it arrived I was told they had no olives but it would still be ok. If you're charging over ten pounds for a drink the least you can do is serve it correctly. As we had a gig to attend we were conscious that time was moving on and despite the fact that there were now only two other couples in the restaurant there was no sign of any haste in the kitchen. Eventually our mains arrived at twenty past six, one hour and twenty minutes after we'd been seated. I could understand this if they were busy but the place was empty. I ordered the halibut and again it was delicious but a very small portion my friends ordered the beef which again was a small portion but was stone cold. One friend sent theirs back the other two were so hungry they just ate it. Because of the delay in getting the food out our friend didn't have time to order anything else. The waitress offered to have the dish warmed up but we'd had enough by this time and asked for the bill. As expected the cost of one main course was deducted from our bill but it still came to a whopping £166. We knew that the drinks would be expensive but the food order of 4 starters 3 mains and two sides was £99 and all four of us were absolutely starving when we left. It was a terrible start to our evening I know all places can have good and bad days but this was truly appalling we all feel conned and ripped off by the extortionate prices for what was a very very poor dining experience. Another message to the management if someone tweets a negative comment about your establishment why don't you try engaging your customer instead of blocking them.

I have recently held a baby shower here for my sister and have to say everything on the day was perfect! The venue was great and we were allocated a good area which comfortably fit around 25 of us plus food and drink. The food was delicious. As we were there at midday our guests had eggs benedict, gin cured salmon bagels with dill cream cheese, brie and bacon toasties with tomato chutney and pancakes with winter berries and lemon yoghurt. Every item was superb! The staff were very welcoming and made us feel at ease and no request before the actual shower or on the day was too much for them. Overall everything was great and I am looking forward to going back and trying the Sunday roast.

We had a table on Saturday, arrived and were seated and attended to by very welcoming staff - first problem was they had nearly ran out of red wine - the manager was great about it and afterwards reduced our drinks bill to compensate. The bread and oil was lovely (from the Baltic Bakehouse), the starters were good - Lambs liver was good but not great, the goats cheese was similar. Mains - beef was rare (we were not asked how we wanted it cooking) but lovely. I had the Hake which wasn't hot enough - so by the time I was halfway through it really wasn't that appealing. The music was a bit 'clubby' the bill was very reasonable but the staff were excellent. Will I come back ? Not sure really.

The food on offer here is as good as any we have eaten anywhere - lambs liver for starter, and duck for main course cooked to perfection. Terrific cocktails, great service including an excellent wine recommendation. The only down sides were a rowdy table opposite - and the fact that desserts were off due to a fridge malfunction - though we got a delicious cheese board plus sloe gin to make up for this. And neither of these issues however affected the general sense that this a truly exceptional addition to Liverpool's food scene.

Hi Guys, we arrived at the Cedar Gin & Fire for a birthday meal only to find out they had a problem with the electricity and had to close the kitchen, they tried calling my Mrs but she didn't answer because she didn't recognise the number. Owner was fantastic and couldn't apologise enough, he offered to book another restaurant for us and gave us a few complimentary drinks. It's a great bar and the restaurant looks fantastic so we will definitely be making another booking in the near future! His knowledge of gin is fantastic and took his time to explain the various gins (a lot) and the best mixers to compliment the gin. My birthday night was definitely not spoilt by the temporary closer of the kitchen, I've decided it's just postponed until our next visit. Thanks again to Justin and staff ☺

Arrived for our table a couple of minutes late but still had to wait nearly 25 minutes before our first drinks order arrived. The cocktails (007 by the book and The Box) were delicious and were taken off the bill due to the wait so can't complain too much. When the food arrived it was definitely worth the wait- Ox skirt tartare was delicate and tender (slightly overpowered by the strong mustard is my only gripe) but we couldn't fault the goats cheese starter. The mains (lamb rump and duck breast) were truly outstanding and cooked to perfection. Desserts rounded off the meal nicely- nice and light and well balanced.

I live in London but every time I make a trip back home to Liverpool I always pay a visit to Cedar Gin & Fire. The first time I visited the basement bar/restaurant I didn't know what to expect but I can honestly say it exceeded all expectations. We were greeted by the hostess who gave us the option of taking a seat at the bar or sit in a booth whilst we looked through the menu to decided if we wanted to stay and have a meal as we hadn't booked a table beforehand. We chose a booth and were served Gin & Juice in a very large glass filled with fruit and I have to say it went down a treat :) It could possibly be my new favorite drink, I am yet to find a bar in London who can make it just as good. The music they played was edgy, cool and set at the right tempo not to fast and not to slow. Chilled enough to sit and eat a meal through but also lively enough to make you want to stand at the bar after your meal to have drinks with the girls. The food we chose was a mixture of small plates, it was food I had not really sampled before but I can honestly say each dish was delicious.I have been here a number of times now with different groups of friends and each time I've been I've never been disappointed as the atmosphere caters for all, old, young, new, couples its just fab. The next time I come home to Liverpool in a couple of weeks I will definitely be paying Cedar a visit on the Sunday as I am yet to try out their roast dinners.

After many yrs drinking and dancing in Le Bateau its incredible to see how the basement has been transformed into this cracking little restaurant, a great space and lovely atmosphere with even better food & drinks. We went on a Saturday night at 8pm and it quickly filled up. Started with a cocktail....the 'not such a Bloody Mary' was genius and then opted for the taster menu with the accompanying drinks flight. Having done a lot of taster menus it was very well priced and a good way to see what the kitchen has to offer. Things started very well with a lovely gin Bellini and three really tasty canapés and just got better from there....the scrambled duck egg & white truffle I could eat every day and the ox flank tartar with coal oil was as good as it gets, the surprise little crunchy bits of what I think where crispy chicken skin was a stroke of genius. Having had a similar dish at Simon Rogan's L'enclume and FERA at Claridges this was every inch as good, if not better for the addition of the chicken skin. The Cornish mackerel was perfect and the roast rump of Hereford beef was as well cooked a piece of meat as your likely to get. We constantly had drinks lined up on the table, brilliant value and worked well with each course....be warned, this option is not for the light drinkers!! Overall probably the best fine dining meal the city has to offer in a really nice relaxed venue. It absolutely wiped the floor with the Arts School Restaurant with a significantly lighter bill at the end. We left after midnight, nicely full up and quite well oiled after all those drinks. Great venue, great dinks, some stunning food....will be back very soon

The tables are nicely spaced, and we felt immediately at ease. The menu was innovative, and they'd clearly taken care selecting interesting combinations of ingredients. The food was excellent throughout, particularly the ham hock starter with a hash brown. and the service was extremely friendly. The wine list was in flux, and as such limited, but we still had a good bottle, and I'm looking forward to seeing their new list.
