Cavells in Sheffield

First visit. Don't know how long it's been open but it seems to be a favourite of many, of different ages. Pleasant environment. Very friendly staff. The food was lovely, nicely presented on the plate. Definitely going to visit again when meeting up with friends

Bit disappointed with my meal. I had the piri piri chicken salad and although the chicken was plentyful the other listed ingredients were noticeable in there absence. No quinoa, brown rice, soy beans or kale as listed but I did receive cucumber, tomato and radish all very bland. If I had been advised on ordering about the shortage of ingredients I would have been able to choose if that was still what I wanted to eat. Can I just add that this was not our first visit and the food is usually really nice.

Is it a coffee shop or a pub. Wetherspoons and Costa coffee mixture. Seating is tight . If in a wheelchair you are asking people to move out of the way.

Just went in for drinks and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Good selection of beers, really friendly bar staff and really good decor.

Visited today with my sister for an early lunch. Ordered at the bar. Had to wait a good 15/20 minutes for a fish finger sandwich and a BLT with chicken (extra £2) to make it a chicken club. Unfortunately the chicken wasn’t cooked. Unable to find a member of staff to address this so just ate the rest of the BLT. A waitress came to collect the plates so I told her about the undercooked chicken to which she replied ‘sorry’ ‘I’ll take it away’??? Unbelievable.

I've been going to Cavell's for years and have always enjoyed it. The food used to be very nice and good value for money. And the allergens were clear, on the menu or communicated from the staff. However, I went for lunch yesterday with plans to go the The National Videogame Museum afterwards. I asked one of the members of staff if the New York Chicken is gluten free. The waitress went to check and came back to let me know it was, except the onion rings. So I ordered it without the onion rings. It came out with onion rings on. When I sent it back the chef wanted to take the onion rings off and give the same dish back. It was a waiter who argued that the plate was contaminated and needed doing again. The dish seemed to be made again however, either it was the same contaminated dish or something else on that plate contains gluten. I had to go home and spent the rest of the afternoon unwell. I spent £10 on a dish I only ate half of because the carelessness of the chef put me on edge as to whether it was actually GF or not. My ticket to the NVM was wasted because I had to go home. On top of this, another person in our party ordered a coke and the glass hadn't been washed, it had lipstick on it.

Some of the food is good and they do really lovely roast potatoes but we have had reason to complain a couple of times and they do nothing about it and don't apologise.As long time customers we found this unacceptable.Not the right attitude towards customers at all.

So went today with my family for mothers day ..ordered pie ..chips peas and the pie had not even been cooked close to frozen ..there was no opology at all and the older women had such an attitude with us it was disgusting..never said sorry or nothing took our plates away and gave us a dirty look ...I work with food ..so tell me why the food was not probed ...Sheffield city Council needs to shut this place ..no dates on the tables sauces ..so potentially they could be out of date and it cost us over 100 pounds ...never ever again

The food was not up to standard for the money there charged. We actually came here out of recommendation and it was terrible. Once calling the manager for sending the back the food he had a disgusting attitude and told us the never come back. Because he can't take a review that the food was terrible never in my life have I been treated like this over a rubbish breakfast

During my business trip to Sheffield, I decided to visit Carvells. I opted for the swordfish, and it was truly delightful. The dish was impeccably cooked and offered excellent value for money, especially considering the current economic pressures. The staff exhibited professionalism and friendliness, and the establishment was well-maintained. I appreciated the thoughtful gesture of complimentary chilled water on the bar. I will certainly make a point to return when I'm in town again.

Great festive menu. Will go again next Christmas. Enjoy coffee there with a friend most months.

Food was absolutely terrible cold and microwaved and hardly anything on the plate . The woman was really rude and could smell alcohol on her . Food was very hard and dry would never return here way over priced for the atrocity that we experienced .. what we got -quarter of Yorkshire pudding -4 carrots -1 tiny piece of microwave turkey they said was chicken but was sandwich meat microwaved -two teaspoons of instant mash very sloppy - 2 tiny burnt roast potatoes that had been put in deep fat fryer . 1 black burnt stuffing ball that was fried as well About a full bag of frozen peas An egg cup of lumpy gravey Worst food had in the past 10 years

We had a tasty little meal, Monday tea time, good value for money.

Was asked to move has table was reserved, turned out it was for a friend of barmaid who just wanted to be seated near bar to chat, also staff have no manners, can not manage a please or thank you. Drinks about twice the price of the wetherspoons about 100 yards down the road.

Ordered coffee & cake the fudge cake was rock hard & off it had obviously been there much longer than sell by date.i complained & was given antother choice which wasn't much better. As we were leaving I looked to see if the remaining fudge cake had been removed & it hadn't. When we left my wife told me that another couple had complained about their breakfast & that the going waitress had thrown them in the bin.my wife had spoken to the young girl as she was upset & the boss said to my wife "what did you say to her?) My wife didn't tell him as it was private but he obviously didn't like it. I would never go back again a complete waste of money

Took my son and his girlfriend for breakfast, lovely place and great choice of menu. Prices decent and seating comfy. Lovely staff

We ordered a TIGer BREAD fish finger baguette and we paid it was all fine. When the food arrived it came with some cheap roll and two dry finger fingers with no sauce. When we asked to change the food the waitress said that’s fine because it wasn’t what we ordered but when they asked the chef, the chief refused. Even though it wasn’t what we ordered. Chef is rude but the waiters were nice about it. Wouldn’t recommend coming here.

I visited tonight 25/04/2023,a woman ordered food with her friends. When the food came to the table 1 of the customers didn't want chips with her food,so a member of the bar staff took the plate from the customer and took it to the end of the bar and removed the chips from her plate,then proceeded to eat them and then returned the food to the customer.correct me if I'm wrong but it should be sent back to the kitchen for the chef to sort it NOT for a member of bar staff who has no food qualifications and then also eat them when it's the customers food NOT THE BAR STAFF!

A friend of mine said hello to me as I was walking past and food was delivered to them, the boss told me that I could not continue the conversation with my friend because of the food. So unfriendly! Will not go back.

I have been here a number of times for lunch with friends and enjoyed the food and drink, unfortunately the past two times have been a let down, previously had the home roast hot beef panini with roast potatoes,the beef was so tough and unpleasant to eat and the potatoes well overcooked,I tried the home roast beef sandwich this time and the beef was again tough and fatty,complained to a member of staff who just shrugged it off and didn't offer an apology..such a shame but I won't be going in again .

I've been many times over the years first-class food and drink. My friend Katie and her younger sister Matilda loved it too when they came over a year ago from Leeds

The food and service was very poor. Despite the place been empty there was no check back to make sure everything was ok with the food. When the waitress came to take the plates we explained the food was poor and the waitress just said 'ok' and left. Won't visit again.

What a gem of a place called in for breakfast and £4.50 for Cavell's special egg sausage bacon tomatoes and toast bargain and really tasty cooked perfectly I also had a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice and a cup of decaf tea all for less than a tenner It was so good I returned the next day for the same again.super nice staff and quick service.i would highly recommend this place

Granny central but a lovely and safe place to take your kids for a quite alright meal even late afternoon on a Friday.

Only stopped for one drink but pleasant atmosphere, plenty of places to sit down. The toilets are extremely small though (you could hardly move) and the hand dryer was useless, had to wipe my hands on myself.

Beef sandwich was overcooked and tough, obviously reheated, wouldn't recommend. Scampi and chips ok

I got chicken schnitzel and it was very nice lovely tender chicken then i got hot donut stack and that was the best ive tasted in year,lovely clean place,polite staff,well worth a visit if your in sheffield

Allergens Knowledge Poor. Cashier wasn't even prepared to ask the kitchen a question about the food. For someone who is coeliac only option was omelette or gammon. So for example that suggests the bacon, fried egg, beens etc contain gluten! No allergens book for customer to review either. Staff just could not be bothered. Allergen sufferers BEWARE!

What a lovely cafe bar, called in for breakfast with my family. Piping hot food and drinks, tables well spaced out and nice friendly staff. Booked a private function there for beginning of March.

Visited before going to see a show. Nice friendly place, suits most age range. Food was nice ,my husbands wasn't hot so asked for it to be heated up, no problem at all. It's clean and will pop in again.

Called today 4 of us will all tried the sunday roast same dish 4 roast beef Yorkshire pudding stuffing peas sweetcorn carrots 🥕 cabbage roast potatoes and smash potatoes .bargin £11.50 oops shouldn't say barging price will increase.And excellent hospitality. Forgot camera will be back before Xmas. .

Ostensibly a pleasant experience, relatively quiet and well priced. However, toilets desperately need refurbishment & it takes a looooong time to get anything other than a standard drink.

When in sheffield we Always have breakfast here.

The food is great! However, it does get a bit crowded since it is in the middle of town! It is possibly best to book a table if you are in a group of 3 or more! Get your table and enjoy the good food!

Went in for breakfast and found a hair toasted in the bread !!! Was told it was a strand from the egg, no apology, only attitude from the chef. Disgusted

I have been going to the Cavells for sometime now but of late the cleanliness has gone down. The carpet is never hoovered. One day I was there till closing time and the following day I went there for breakfast and the mess that was under the table I sat the previous night was still there. The place is alright if only they can keep upto date with cleanliness.At times even the tables are not cleaned properly. Food and hygiene go hand in hand. I hope they will improve.

I had an English breakfast that was well presented & tasty. Sue had a bacon & mushroom bread cob. Efficient cheerful staff that were very polite & helpful. Clean throughout & a credit to the management. If you like comfort in a relaxed atmosphere this is for you.

Good breakfast very friendly staff

I visit cavells quite often with friends, and where usually the food and drink match our expectations but this week it didn't. the fishfinger sandwiches were what it said fishfinger sandwich a baguette with 1 fishfinger no butter on the bread and no salad it was very dry I wouldn't choose that again in a hurry.

Incredible breakfast, we almost went there all three mornings we were in town - the bubble and squeak was to die for! Clean, bright, excellent music and relaxed atmosphere, and a comprehensive range of alcohols if you're that way inclined.

Cappuccino delivered to table spilt into saucer, sugar sachets swimming in the mess. Waitress simply apologised put it down on the table and walked off. Here with a group and nothing looked particularly great but it would be unfair to judge more than that. Overall a poor experience I’m afraid.

Lovely cafe bar. First looks from the outside was I thought it was a small cafe until walking in to notice it was a pub/cafe. Lovely and quiet. Nice cake! Would definitely go again.

Our family had breakfast here - it was marvellous. We'd originally planned to eat the Bankers Draft but there were a gang of foul mouthed men who led to us spending our £40 at Cavells which my daughter recommended. Well worthwhile, nice establishment, pleasant staff, decent menu.

Was in Sheffield for a concert at City Hall and came across Cavells. A lovely place, nice atmosphere and friendly service. Will definitely go back.

Ordered a veggie breakfast, but with no eggs, asked for a slice of toast in place of egg, was told I’d have to pay extra, so I asked if I was paying less for the breakfast minus the eggs…. No!! What a rip off!

Good atmosphere which is different to most bars with food. Food took a little longer than we had anticipated and my sweet potato fries were missing which was a shame. Told the bar staff and it was brought up within 10 minutes. Think they forgot about it 🙈 but was then offered a free drink for an apology which was a kind gesture. Great place, but little long on food services. Apart from that, it is recommended 🤗
