Catterall Fish Bar in Wyre

I have had really good fish and chips from here -on 3 occasions butt not this time! Firstly the man on the till had very little understanding of the menu. I ordered haddock, small chips and mushy peas. he appeared not to understand or be able to use the till. I repeated my order - 3 times! Eventually a young man came to assist and I asked him to read back my order. He read - chicken and mushroom pie and chips!!! I corrected him and asked again for regular haddock, small chips and mushy peas. Great he said - I asked him to read my order back - he said cod, small chips and mushy peas!!! By now I was getting fed up as there seemed little appetite for good customer service. Eventually after one more attempt it was sorted out. The first guy started frying. He wore no apron, no hat or protective head wear, he didn't wash his hands. The young man on the till wore no 'food prep' clothing or headwear When the fish came out, the batter looked crispy. However when I started to eat it - the batter was not cooked, it had holes in it and the consequently fish was over cooked. The batter was crispy on the outside and slimy white on the inside - suggesting that the fat had not been brought up to temperature before the fish was put in. The chips had clearly been reheated by putting them in hot fat just before serving. The peas were good. I think the owner or manager was sitting in the background on their phone - their time may have been better helping the staff - who clearly didn't have a clue! The key to any good business is quality, consistency and customer care. This business had none! I will not be going back

Reviewed this chippy a couple of times, standard is variable to say the least. Recent visit, staffed by teenagers who were completely disinterested in the customer, also looked a bit scruffy. Chips, some hard, some overdone, some underdone, how is that even possible? Think we’ll give this one a miss from now on, consistency is key in catering, this place manages only to be consistent in its inconsistency!

In the area for work and needed a quick lunch. Friendly fast service. Chips we're perfectly cooked, sausage might have been slightly over done but still tasty Would visit again

Impromptu visit last night. Chips absolutely spot on, crispy outside & fluffy inside. Meat & potato pie, excellent, nice & peppery. Service much better & no loud music. Big improvement I’m pleased to say.

Had food from here several times, fair to say it’s a bit inconsistent. Recent visit, pie good, peas poor, chips horrible, undercooked. Service is okay but the music, just not right to be so loud, you can even hear next door in the coffee shop. Will no doubt do well because of where it is but there are much better chip shops in the area. Needs a bit more professional approach to the atmosphere, service & the cooking I’m afraid.

Been here 12 months ago and the fish, chips and peas were ok. With some fantastic chip shops locally I only came here again because it’s on my doorstep and the temporary traffic lights to get to Hazelhurst drive (best local chippy) are a nightmare. Waited 10 mins, another couple of customers came in. Fairy quiet yet didn’t mind the wait as seats available. Ordered fish,chips and peas again. Got home and just fish and chips. Very annoying as I’d even checked with the young lad that it was fish chips and peas as no carton - guessed it must have been in the box. Anyhow, the fish and chips are average again

Best chippy I've had over 50 years in UK & abroad!! Huge fish with yummy batter & perfect chips. Will def go again when next there.
