Catch 22 in Sunderland

Delicious thick chips cooked to perfection, accompanied by fish bites to die for. Lovely takeaway on the seafront for a nice walk along the beach. Will definitely be back, couldn’t recommend it any more!

Having spent about half an hour trying to find a fish and choppy where we could eat in (we didn't fancy sharing our food with the seagulls!) we stumbled across this rather marvellous establishment. Despite the initial language barrier (ie us being from the South East ..) we went for the good old favourite Cod and Chips and Scampi, which was cooked to order, and was proper nice! The chips were just right, and the fish was out of this world. Thank you! The owner was quite chatty and very personable, and didn't rush us, although, it transpired he was wanting to close for the day... The decor is amazing and added to the wonderful experience

Decided to go into catch 22 as there was no queue stood a few minutes no one behind the counter spoke to me bearing in mind I’m the only customer in the shop. Then a family came in behind me at this point I had no idea they had obviously came in for their ordered food. The person behind the counter very rudely told me I had to leave the shop as these people where waiting to be served I quietly left and went and queued at another chippy.

Thick chunky crispy non greasy chips , lovely sweet curry sauce. Huge fresh fish bites. Really top quality scran

Service today was friendly and food nice the bread bun sadly wanted throwing as stale, apart from the bun cheers and will return as wanting to try the squid dish just no bread bun this time

On holiday in Sunderland, walked along the beach and decided to get some fish and chips at this place noticing there were a few tables inside and it was empty. The guy persuaded us to get the tacos. WOW!!! Honestly, they were absolutely amazing. I can't recommend this place enough. The guy there (think he was American or Canadian) was extremely friendly and polite and the tacos was the best thing I've eaten in a long time. Epitome of hidden treasure!

Lovely fresh fish, well cooked chips, huge portion, probably the best we've had in years! Staff happy, helpful and welcoming. We'll be highly recommending this place!

After seeing sooooo many posts on Instagram of this fish shop I finally got there on 28th June. My boyfriend and I both got tacos - wow. He got the calamari taco and I got the chicken (never in my life would I of put garlic sauce and pomegranate together but it was like a party in my mouth - my mouths watering now) the coleslaw was so tasty as well, the only thing I could fault was the chips - some were abit dead endish (it happens) apart from that I recommend to anyone who’s down seaburn beach for lunch or tea. I’ve been twice now and can’t wait for my 3rd visit.

Visited today and well what can I say! Visited all the guidelines. Great menu, lots of choice. Service was great, very friendly and welcoming. Food was gorgeous, lots of chips and the coleslaw was lush! Can’t wait to return when things go back to normal. Would definitely recommend

In the area was hungry stopped for something to eat there was no body waiting here and all the rest had lines of people waiting. Went in ordered fish and chips, gravy and chips with extra salt. Staff was very nice. place looked clean and welcoming. Fish was cooked to order I was shocked at how nice fresh and the taste. Definitely will go again highly recommended. Better then the fish and chips from whitby.

I came here today with my family for fish and chips it was absolutely foul the worst Fish and chips I have ever had black bits all over the fish obviously from dirty all soggy batter chips were not cooked through water sauces a story terrible avoid at all costs . Contacted the page but message was read and ignored truely awful

I've never been here before.My son wanted to go to Minchellas but hunger overtook him when I said that we give Catch22 a try.He sat outside and waited for his fish and chips.I ventured to the counter and waited and waited, longing for acknowledgement or recognition or even eye contact! I was on the point of walking out but couldn't bear to disappoint my hungry son so I took the plunge and asked if I could order.Oh happy days the order was in and I've got to say that the food was excellent as was the accompanying service.I know it's difficult at the moment with the coronavirus but I really think this cafe could go places. Hang in there, improve meet and greet and take it to the next level.

After having a walk in the brisk wind on Seaburn beach, myself and Granddaughter went to Catch 22. We were pleasantly surprised. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was delicious.

We had the prawn tacos and lobster. Both were really nice. Place is nice and clean and the staff really friendly. Will definitely be back.

After being recommended by a friend we tried catch 22 and was not disappointed. In fact I haven't stopped singing about them since. Try the sea bass & chips. Wow this place is exceptionallygood

Couldn't recommend Catch 22 enough. The options are fantastic and VERY reasonably priced. Excellent surroundings and service. I had the scampi and chips and it was beautiful. Others had the tacos which looked and tasted great! The slaw is delicious. Definitely be back soon.

Have had food from here a few times. Love the prawn tacos - they make such a change from your normal fish and chip shop offerings. The staff are friendly and happy to accommodate special requests.
