Beautiful location for this pub, friendly service. Nice beer, clean loo’s. We sat outside on a beautiful sunny afternoon. - parasols or some shade would have been useful? It is set on its own, in a little dell you sense the history and quaint atmosphere of the place. We enjoyed a couple of beers before the sun got too hot, maybe take a hat? Well kept enclosed beer garden, with well spaced out seating.

Ordered steak pie & Chicken burger. The pastry on the bottom was very doughy under cooked . The Chicken burger came with salad on a HOT plate and the bottom of the bun was also soggy. To top it off the waitress asked us if we wanted the change back when we paid. All in all it the best.

Arrived early, and had a warm welcome, and for my first visit to the area this was a pleasant surprise. I had a coffee by the roaring log fire: the coffee was first rate, which bode well for the meal to come. When we were gathered and seated I chose the home made steak and ale pie, and it was delicious: not a morsel left on the plate. Others had fish and chips, and blimey what beautiful fish they were. The gammon steak also went down very well, and the three children's meals were eagerly devoured leaving not a trace of food on the plates. This was on December 31st. I will definitely be returning in Spring or Summer. I highly recommend The Cat i' The Well. Many thanks to the owners and the staff? A delightful way to end the year.

We have been here a few times and always had a good meal so not sure what's going wrong BUT Went as a group of 4 for Mothers day. When I booked they didn't let me know they didn't have a full menu on (mistake no 1). Table was booked for 1pm the choice was very poor. We got there it was not busy but slow service to start off with, we asked if there was any other choices and asked if there was a pie, (they had sold out), we saw someone getting a baguette but when asked they weren't doing them(!!). Eventually the food came, Food wasn't bad but I asked for more gravy that never came, and food came staggered. Then (why when food took so long I'm not sure!!) we ordered desserts (Big mistake) None came for ages then Apple crumble came with 3 scoops of ice cream Strawberry, vanilla and chocolate ( - mmm No), the 3rd Apple crumble came eventually with custard, my chocolate fudge came with Chocolate Ice cream I asked for it to be changed for vanilla ice cream (and actually said "Just scoop it off and put vanilla on please) I never saw it again!!! Overall a very disappointing experience. Something was knocked off bill but as I was being treat not sure what. Hope they get their act back together as a very quaint pub in a beautiful spot.

Me and a friend took our kids this weekend for Sunday lunch since we had found out the kitchen had been taken over recently. we couldn't fault the food, so tasty, a real plate full... we couldn't manage a dessert even though we wanted to! All the food is very reasonably priced for what you got, there is no kids menu the chef just adapts what is on the main menu into a kids portion! which is think is great because they cannot just have the usual kids rubbish like nuggets etc. The chef told us about a family day they are having on Easter Sunday, where they plan to have bouncy castles, Easter egg hunt and food... we will defiantly be attending!

"Its still a Pub" but offers some great food choices. A new BBQ has been installed and judging by the trial run during the recent unexpected sunny spell it will be a great addition as the weather picks up. Beer garden is ideal for the Kids. Inside and when the weather is a little inclement, a roaring fire offers a welcome. The beer is well kept and the staff are very pleasant. Its worth the trip out.

We came here as a group of ten people for a pub lunch on our festive New Year walk and loved it. The pub was so cosy with it's wooden panels, beams and crackling fire. Perfect after a very wet rainy walk in Luddenden Dean Valley. After our friendly welcome from the staff we sat in the pub area first, drying off by the fire and enjoying the lovely pub atmosphere. We then moved to the dining area and all had delecious meals. The top favourite being the steak and ale pie with chips and veg. Definitely recommend!

No planea volver

We visited on a Friday evening setting off for a walk from a packed car park. Thankfully by the time we returned there was a free table. We battled through a crowded bar for drinks so were delighted when a waitress took our order at the table. 5 different meals - excellent fish and chips, homemade lasagne, steak and ale pie, gammon and scampi. All meals were good and the huge chips were particularly scrummy. All in all a great meal in a pleasant pub with a real fire!

Ten of us booked an evening meal here for a birthday on a Saturday evening.Eight of us were sat together, the other two were on a separate table... very odd.The choice of food was very limited, some meals on the menu were not available. There were no meals on the blackboard as suggested on the menu and no chefs special. So it was very disappointing. The chef/owner was not a bit interested and very dismissive of us when we asked about the Yorkshire puddings which were missing off the Roast beef. The veg were good, cauliflower, broccoli and swede as were the chips.

We were a party of 10, 2 were seated separately with no explanation. We were waiting for about 20 minutes for someone to take our order and ages for the food to come. Being generous I could say it was the number of meals but I do not think this was the case. Some (3) of the meals were listed as having Yorkshire puddings as an accompaniament, these did not arrive. When we asked the waitress she went to enquire and were told they had "run out".how on earth a supposedly excellent pub/ restaurant could do this defies logic especially when we spoke to the chef/owner/manager he stated his Yokshire puds were wonderful. The Chilli portion was OK for a child but certainly not an adult and as we found out later the chicken was only warm (this was not mentioned until after we left). None of the meals were generously sized portions. When we complained, the chef (or whatever position he held) tried to blame the waitress. He offered no apology and only when challenged gave us £1.50 off the bill,50p per pudding!!Two of our party were not local and do dine out often as do we all, they ( nor us)will be recommending this place to anyone, quite the reverse in fact.

Unfortunately The Cat I'the Well seems to have gone down hill rapidly of recent times. On our recent visit in April we sat in the garden and had to look at the remains of the November bonfire whilst sitting amongst uncleared beer glasses, crisp packets and general rubbish floating around us like tumbleweed. If you fancy looking at old bits of plastic, pallets or any other detritus have a look around. Not much in the way of floral displays going on here. The food is distinctly average with the same old and tired menu that has been going for years. Edible, but without care or attention. Condiments arrive in packets that blow away if indeed there is anything in them in the first place. The pub was empty on a sunny Friday lunchtime. This speaks volumes and people are obviously voting with their feet.I have no intention of kicking someone when they are down, but it just appears to be sheer laziness that holds this wonderful historic pub back.Unless things change I find that I can neither visit nor recommend this establishment to friends or colleagues.Hopefully there is change waiting around the corner.

We called on a sunny Saturday afternoon hoping for something to eat after a long walk. They didn't seem too pleased to be serving us and said they were about to stop serving. The people that arrived after us hoping for food and not getting any were probably the lucky ones. The thing I asked for was sold out and they told us they didn't have any chips either! How can a pub selling food run out of chips? I eventually just ordered a ham sandwich. Because this was just a tad under £6 I was expecting a something pretty amazing. It was actually some tasteless ham in between 2 slices of very dry brown bread - they had also run out of baguettes - with a bit of bought coleslaw and lettuce on the side. The knives, forks and condiments were brought to the table in a rusty metal container meant to look like a miniature bucket. My friend got an equally miserable sandwich and my partner a tasteless baked potato. one week on and I still keep thinking six quid for 2 stale slices of bread with some slimy ham! The pub itself has character and some nice beers. The setting is also lovely. Did I just get them at a bad time? For this money I don't think they should have bad times.

We all chose turkey panini with chips and a small salad. The food could not be faulted; freshly cooked chips, a generous portion of meat and a good side-salad. The waitress was very pleasant and even offered to go back and get our dog a bowl of water. After our meal, we went on a circular walk to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. We visited this pub for Sunday lunch having stopped for a drink on previous occasions. The pub is beautifully situated on a no through road, next to a beck, with benches on a grassy garden area. The inside is a lovely shabby old fashioned pub with open fires. So far so good. We ordered our food, bought some drinks (well kept Timothy Taylors) went outside, and waited, and waited and waited. There were three other tables full outside, and two inside, one of each already eating when we arrived. We saw the waitress serve one table outside, and then a group who had arrived after us were brought some food. By this time we were contemplating eating the bench legs. We had worked our way through all the quiz questions in the pub speak paper. The young waitress was obviously too inexperienced to deal with hungry, and increasingly annoyed clientele, and we eventually received our meal, after an hour and a half and 4 requests. Some of the food was wrong, and the salad wasn't dressed. We won't be going back for food again. Just stick to the beer, and eat elsewhere.
