Called in here with my father in law and my 4 children (which is always stressful) we were very well looked after ☺️ food was lovely, (kids menu is a £1 with a paying adult) even after a spillage the ladies were so lovely, we will definitely be back

Coffee was absolutely delicious! The pastry was wonderful & the customer service was excellent. Dilo, one of the owners, is a wonderful host!!

A great place for a basic lunch. Nothing fancy, just food done well. Sandwiches and a cup of tea or coffee. Just what you need after a morning round the shops.

Phoned them for an afternoon tea at short notice after an unexpected visit to Carlisle, couldn't do usual, but what they did provide was excellent and beautifully presented, would def go again, very recommended!

Visited this cafe many times now and today was as good as any time we have been here. I had lovely lentil soup and corned beef and beetroot sandwich, my wife had egg mayo, tea and coffee. Although fairly busy we were served quickly. Nice and clean and all staff are friendly. Oh.. the scones are great. All home made... Recommend this cafe to all.

I had a large americano with a very nice fresh scone for £5. They offer a good variety of scones. Staff are friendly and the cafe soon filled up with regulars at lunchtime. I would definitely return.

Had lunch here yesterday. The food is delicious, nice fresh homemade food. Caramel shortbread is devine. Service very good.

This is the loveliest cafe in in Carlisle, the food is always fresh and the staff friendly. Went for lunch with some friends and we thoroughly enjoyed it, it was the best Cheese as one I’ve had (after my Nana’s of course). We have also had there Afternoon Tea Takeaways which are absolutely gorgeous. We will definitely be going back.

Lovely cafe in a great location. All our food was excellent and not too expensive. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Loads of choice on the menu, great for vegetarians. Their freshly baked scones are delicious. Great little cafe with a lovely atmosphere . Best place for a catch up with family and friends.Highly recommend!

Very dead, barely any customers if any at all. Ordered 3 latter and 2 hot chocolates but tasted like water. Would not recommend the drinks unless you like watered down hot drinks. Food is very over priced.

Fantastic old feel, in the same way that you have an old friend. If it was a bar would be like cheers.

Great food great staff - excellent well worth a visit

Really lovely café. Served by friendly staff as well. The menu is really diverse, they serve all sorts of food including unique items like a spiced apple scone which my fiancé took out to eat, though I don’t know if that’s just a one off thing. He had the soup special and I had a sausage cheese panini. Both equally tasty. If back in Carlisle will definitely call in again.

A warm & friendly visit whilst Xmas shopping. Service brilliant as always.

Called in for a quick bite to eat. There were only a few people in when we arrived. Our order was quickly taken & served with a smile. By the time we had eaten our delicious lunch every table was full. If we are in Carlisle we will certainly call in.

Don’t be deceived by first impression of appearance of this place. Some might say a bit dated but if you are put off by that you will miss a truly exceptionally delightful experience. Edwin’s baking is totally immense, the love he puts into it is just yummy. Wendy’s impeccable friendly service is top notch. We had afternoon tea which one of best ever, and we done a fair few. All little individual cakes and savouries. Exquisite meringue, delicious apple and mixed spice scones, gorgeous sponge cake, so many to name and tea in china cups served from a massive tea pot make a wonderful time. Value for money is terrific, plus doggie ‘box’ for those little bits you can’t squeeze in. All baked in house, more should make their way to this gem. Thank you Edwin and Wendy for a magnificent birthday afternoon tea. Happy days!

Feeling weary after exploring the castle area of Carlisle, we stumbled upon this little gem for refreshments. The coffee was so good, we ended up having seconds, and my partner enjoyed a toasted tea cake. I wished I’d been hungry as the cakes and sandwiches looked sublime. The menu was great, including a selection of sandwiches, baked potato fillings, salads and a homemade soup of the day. Best of all, the cafe is a lovely environment to sit and relax for a while. Do give it a try.

Can thoroughly recommend the Afternoon Tea. Excellent selection of sandwiches also mini savouries and cakes. All home made. Loved the china crockery which added to the experience. Very friendly and attentive staff. Well done.

i went for a lunch. All the relevant information for covid was correctly collected. The food was gorgeous. Beautifully presented. They are taking part in the 50% discount scheme. I chose to pay the full price. This is a lovely bright well run cafe. Well worth a visit. Proper home cooking and baking.

Feels a little like your stepping back in time when you enter this cafe. But the staff were friendly, it was clean and there were plenty of places to sit. They made nice scrambled egg on toast. It was all served on separate plates that seemed odd. But it did taste nice and was value for money. I would visit again.

We had the soup and sandwich. The soup tasted of nothing but salt. The sandwich bread tasted like smartprice bread cheapest possible. Grated cheap cheese just fell out of the sandwich as soon as I picked it up .The whole place needs money spending on it and more enthusiastic and imaginative management

Best afternoon tea in carlisle. The staff are lovely and friendly. All the food is home made and they give you so much you have to take half home. In a carlisle treasure.

Lovely friendly cafe, serving gorgeous food at a reasonable price. A must to try are Eddies scones which are home made and baked on site. Staff really friendly and welcoming and very child friendly.

Called in for lunch today with my wife and whilst we were waiting for our food to be served we couldn't help noticing how clean this establishment was, everything was spotless, you couldn't have asked for a cleaner restaurant. Then when the food came we were completely blown away, it was perfect, I couldn't have asked for a better meal if I tried. The service was first class and the staff couldn't have been nicer, we will definitely go back again in the future.

A very enjoyable Christmas dinner. The 3 course menu has plenty to suit everyone, and a great price too. The normal day menu has plenty of choice and they do specials everyday as well. Staff are brilliant, So the whole cafe has a warm and friendly atmosphere. The scones are a must to try especially the date and walnut, made daily to, so there always fresh. Well worth a visit.

Conveniently located between the castle and the cathedral. Traditional decor and a welcoming, homely atmosphere. Good selection of scones, I had the date and walnut with a pot of tea for just £3.20, it was delicious and very fresh. The lady who served me was not only friendly, she suggested one or two places of interest that I could visit next, which I found helpful. Would definitely come here again!

nice cafe serving a variety of things like paninis and soup etc. and homemade cakes and scones. the food was nice although a little retro. enjoyed what we ordered after going to see the weeping window exhibition at carlisle castle

Went in here for lunch today and so glad we did! There was a great choice on the menu and the ladies serving were really friendly. Unfortunately we were too full to try the scones and tray bakes, which looked amazing, but we will be back!

We stopped in here for lunch after visiting Tullie House. The food was freshly cooked and all the bakery items tasted home made and fresh. Would definitely come back here again.

My coffee and scone were served very quickly and were both good quality. This was my first visit and I will certainly be returning on future visits to Carlisle. There were a number of regulars there who made recommendations for me to try on another occasion.The cafe is very clean and the food all homemade. The prices are very reasonable.

Truly homemade meals, desserts and cakes. We found this café just before undertaking the guided walk of Carlisle; it is very close to the start of the walk at Tullie House. The home made steak pie was just like mum used to make and it set us up for the guided walk after which we returned for the apple crumble and fruit pies. The staff were all friendly and even served us our desserts despite being about to close. Lovely.

Very welcoming and good value for money, visited twice whilst we were in Carlisle. Would definitely visit again.

On a day trip to Carlisle with friends we were needing a bit of sustainance after a visit to the very interesting cathedral and a morning shop around the area. We were advised by one of the clergy that we should try this quaint little café which would probably meet our requirements. The décor is from another era, the food however is not. The choice of soups excellent along with steak pie or salads etc . and duly served with a smile from nice chatty waitresses . Well worth a try and it can get busy so be ready for an earlier lunch treat.

Old fashioned place with good coffee and sandwiches - cakes looked good as well. Close to the castle and cathedral.

Whilst site seeing in Carlisle we popped into this little cafe for a drink and cake. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Cafe was quaint and a lovely change from the big chains. Good cup of coffee and cake. Between the Castle and Cathedral.

Only 4 rating because quite expensive, but lovely food, great cakes, scones etc. On the way to the castle. A very nice lady served us. Would go again.

Great cafe. ..staff friendly and very helpful. Always specials available as well as the menu..lots of homemade items too. The scones ara fab and vary from cheese,fruit, apple and cinnamon to the more exotic "pina colada". Well priced and we'll worth a visit. Also do outside catering for a variety of occasions.

After exploring and exiting Carlisle castle, and walking to the Cathedral, looking for tea and lunch, we came upon Castlegate Coffee House on the walk between the two attractions. Located on right side of street close to entrance of Cathedral, lunch was tasty, staff very friendly. clean, reasonable priced café.
