We were part of a large group from our local bowls club that had booked for a pre-Xmas lunch. A two course meal (starter and main) with the option of a dessert at additional cost. The main course was a buffet carvery with four different meat selections - turkey, beef, pork and lamb, (you could select any two from the four) - plus a good selection of vegetables. The carvery chef was generous with portions and the quality was excellent. All in all, a very good meal and thoroughly recommended.

It has been quite a few years since we had been to the golf club. The new owner of the restaurant has done a wonderful job in turning this place into the place to eat locally if you want a delicious Sunday carvery. The decor is lovely. The food was spot on from the meat to the mash. The staff were all lovely and polite and friendly. Keep up the good work.

The Castle Inn have a steak night on the last Friday of each month. We have been to the last three and have not been disappointed. As part of larger group we pre-ordered from Sirloin, Ribeye or Fillet. Chicken is also available for non beef eaters. My wife usually has a sirloin and I have a ribeye. On each occasion the steaks have been excellent. There is no starter but there is a dessert menu with three or four options. You also get a bottle of wine (red, white or rose - not vintage but quaffable) to share between two of you. The total cost last time for the two of us was £38.00 which we considered to be good value for money. Even more so when you consider that there is live entertainment throughout the evening. We can definitely recommend the Castle Inn.

We ate here with family last Sunday and enjoyed a very good carvery meal. There was a wide selection of roasts and vegetables so no need for anyone to go hungry. The prices are very reasonable and it’s no surprise that it gets very busy so prior booking is advisable. The Codnor Castle Inn is now under new management and improvements are being made to the place every week. Highly recommended.

What a super Sunday lunch we had here today, 12 of us to celebrate Mother’s Day. Everything was spot on. The best roast lamb I’ve ever had! Just a shame it’s 20 miles away from home. Well worth the trip over though. Will definitely be back!

Myself my husband and our son went here last night for steak night and I can’t recommend this place enough. The food was amazing, the steak was cooked to perfection and all the staff were fantastic, they can’t do enough for you. There was also great entertainment. It was so good we have booked in again for the next steak night. And we have also booked in for Sunday’s Mother’s Day carvery. Ormonde fields bar and restaurant has recently been took over by new owners and they are lovely people, and are very welcoming. Kellie was very approachable and friendly when speaking to her last night. They have made the place look fantastic. Keep up the fantastic work guys

Went in January for a family meal and the food was nice but the new manager is very abrupt and not very customer friendly. I was a regular visitor with the previous owner but due to not feeling welcome or like a valued customer I won’t step foot in the place again. Prices also gone up and is quite expensive now. Shame as I got married there and have happy memories.

Always come to this place, never a single bad word to pass on. We have been to many different places for food and found them to be under par compared to this lovely place. The atmosphere is lovely and well updated. The food is completely DEVINE and cooked perfectly each time we go. We struggle to get booked in at times due to how busy this place is, but well worth the wait! All the effort that’s put into prepparing and cooking all the varied, seasonal selection of food is very very good. We learned that all this is done by one chef?! Couldn’t quite believe this. What a truly passionate chef and that’s one member of staff to hold on to for absolute sure. Can’t wait for our return! Definitely the best food in the area by a mile! Brilliant work to the team.

Attended as part of a large party of around 25 people in Dec. and nothing was too much trouble. We had the Sunday carvery but they also catered for the vegetarians, vegan and coeliac in our group with no fuss and good options. Great food, great service, great value and friendly staff - must be one of the best carveries in the area. Highly recommended.

After five years of excellent service and good food, we went Christmas Day among all the chaos caused by the greed of the temporary management which we are pleased to say are now gone!, The restaurant is now back to excellent service and management and quality of service. Had a great meal here on Sunday, and enjoyed it as much as we have throughout the past five years.

We visited here for the Sunday carvery with family who are regular customers and we all enjoyed an excellent meal. The restaurant was quieter than usual because of the snowy weather conditions but there were still enough people dining to make for a nice atmosphere. The quality of the carvery was very good, both the meat and the vegetables, all served hot and with plenty of choice. After the blip of a temporary change in management, George is now back at the helm and things seemed to have settled down since the chaos of Christmas Day. If you're after a good value, tasty carvery meal on a Sunday then you could do a lot worse than here.

Where do I start ?? We arrived for the 2 oclock sitting and diners where still queing for the carvery from the 12 oclock sitting. It was unorganised chaos. You couldn't get to the bar never mind get served. Only 2 slow staff seving. No tables seemed to be cleared and ready for the next diners. Finally got our table, no side plates, no starters cutlery, a few random crackers. 3.20 the starters arrived, not enough cobs for everyone. Then a 25 min wait in a que for the carvery, soup kitchen springs to mind. We had pre ordered weeks before, and pay in full, but one in our group was told the sweet they had ordered had run out. The atmosphere was toxic. People walking out, complaining wanting their money back. What a way to spend Christmas Day. We where apologised too by George the previous manager who apparently had only worked to help out. Simply too many people booked in, and not enough food/staff .This is one person who will not be booking in again.

Went on a night out Friday 14th oct for a social event. About 120 of us crammed in the function room with hardly any room to move. Poor planning of the tables - heating was on full blast and we were baking hot. Could have turned the heat down. The buffet provided was poor. The bread sandwiches were dry and white bread only, pasta n pasta sauce was tasteless and chicken legs looked grey! House wine wasn't that great and tasteless gin and tonic made for a not so great evening. Put me off wanting to return. Sorry

I went here for a presentation evening, to say I was disappointed would be an understatement - I'd heard such good things about Castle Inn, but on arrival we where greeted by a very dated function room, small bar area and only 2 toilets in the ladies, which was very dark and the floor was wet through! When we went through to the Buffet area I couldn't believe what food was being served - cheap thin white bread, cheap margarine with hardly any fillings, wedges, chicken drum sticks (which smelt terrible and looked even worse) I'd like to say pork pie but it looked like spam with a crust! Thinly sliced quiche and in the centre of the table was a big bowl of pasta!! There was no brown bread, no salad, very disappointing. The only positive was the staff where very friendly and the price of the drinks were ok! Such a shame as I would never go there again or recommend it.

We are fortunate enough to eat out most Sundays and get out and about, but the Sunday roast dinner at Codnor Castle Inn is unbeatable in my view. Real home cooked food ( not out of a packet ) it's a carvery so help yourself but the staff are very attentative and helpful. Desserts are plentiful but alas the dinner is usually enough for me. Set in beautiful grounds this place is a must try. George the owner makes this place and he try's to get round and speak to all who visit. 10/10

We ate here with family on the Sunday between Christmas & New Year and were impressed by the quality and the value of the carvery offering. The food was hot, fresh and nicely presented by the young chef carving the meats. We were well looked after at the table by our young waitresses and all in all had a really enjoyable visit. Although the restaurant was quite busy, I'm told that it is very popular on "normal" Sundays so it is always advisable to book in advance to make sure you get a table. We would definitely visit again for good quality food at a great price. Many thanks to George and his team.

We visited here over Christmas for a family celebration and have to say we were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the service from George and his team. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they all helped make the party a really enjoyable occasion. The only thing that's denying them a fifth star is the decor which is all looking a bit tired. Amazing family visit. Staff are welcoming and accommodating, large well laid out parking area. Interior is welcoming and spacious. We arrived between 3-5pm when only Pizza is available. We decided to hold out until after 5 and booked a Pod in the beer garden. They are ideal for groups (they have various sizes up to 14 persons) they're heated and with a service call button. Service was incredible, food good, Ales were limited but well kept and presented. The pods are ideal so the young children in the group didn't disturb anyone else and could have their space. We will definitely be back.
