Never delivered on time! Don’t even answer the phones. Such a frustrating process. Will no recommend to others.

This place is by far the best Indian restaurant I've had the pleasure to dine at. Robin and his staff go out of their way an beyond yo make ot that extra special an the food... Wow 👌

Terrible experience, placed order yesterday 14th Dec 2024 through Just Eat, delivery 7.15pm. My husband rings Castlegate at 7.20pm to ask when the order will be delivered? He is told the driver is leaving now. At 7.45pm my husband rings again, a lady tells him the driver is leaving in 5mins, my husband asks to speak to the Manager, the Manager confirms the order will be delivered by 8pm. At 8.10pm we drive up to Castlegate. My husband asks to see the Manager, the Manager steps forward into my husbands personal space and says "you have beef with me?" I am shocked that a Manager would behave in such a confrontational manner. Of course this will create a reaction. My husband asks for a refund. The Manager then suggests they both go outside, they walk to the corner of the carpark, it is then that the Manager tells my husband he grew up in London, spent time in Brixton Prison with murderers and he knows where my husband lives!! This is a veiled threat. My husband asks him if this is a threat, the Manager walks back to the restaurant. My husband comes back to the car and tells me what has happened. I obviously am concerned with this situation. I walk into the restaurant and ask to see the Manager. He comes up to us but is not interested in me, he deliberately steps close to my husband pushing hid face into my husbands personal space. I ask him if he made a veiled threat to myself and my husband. I ask him if he told my husband he served time in Brixton Prison with murderers and that he knows where we live? The Manager will not answer my question, instead he points to the cameras in the restaurant. That's great it does not deter me, I state that the Manager made a veiled threat, he served time in Brixton Prison with murderers and he knows where we live, if anything happens to us or our house then the Police will be here as we know where you work. I did feel intimidated as the Manager was in my husbands face, a member of staff was to the right of me, another to the left and the receptionist was behind me. If you look through the camera footage I was not confrontational, however that cannot be said about the Manager. Rest assured we will not be ordering from Castlegate again. I do not take kindly to threats, even veiled threats

After more years than I can to put numbers to, we collected another take away from this fine restaurant. We have been going there for many years and always feel appreciated as a regular customer. This fine reception of course also applies to new customers, who are welcomed just as warmly and made to feel at home. The variety & taste of the food is great, plus very satisfying as you savour the spices. Already looking forward to the next visit. Thanks Robi.

To be honest I tend not leave reviews if my meal is good or even adequate, on this occasion the whole night wasn’t great To start it was 5c outside and similar inside, it’s Saturday 7th at 5.30 we had 4 young children Service from the start was poor everyone in restaurant has their coats on ,plates come to the table these are freezing also …great To top it off 2 of us had a stomach bug the following day so not a great experience

The manager was scruffy, the drinks overpriced, poppadoms stale. Cold plates, food came in dribs and drabs, so first items going cold. Very small pickle tray, with huge spoons - odd! No salad arrived with lamb tikka main. When I checked if it came with a salad, I was told yes. So I then had to ask 'can I have it then?'. Salad was 2 thin slices of cucumber, a quarter of tomato and some chopped lettuce. Will never go back and cannot understand why it boasts that it has won 'lots of awards'. I was given a 10% discount on the overall bill, but it was still £62+ for some poppadoms, 2 mains, one rice, one naan and drinks.

Great restaurant nice place to visit. We want there for dinner, nice set up. The service was a bit slow ended up being inside for 2hours. Overall the food was fresh nice portions. There was a slight wait on our starters being given, followed by another long wait for the mains. Giving these guys a 3.5

We gave Castle View a last chance after using them for years. Sadly one of the worst meals we’ve had from a local supplier in a long time. Tonight’s experience was regretful. Firstly 55 mins late after original online expected time slot ordered on an app. Not so bad tbh, don’t mind. Food wise this time again extremely poor. Everything stone cold and had to reheat everything. Popadoms were stale and rubbery. Accompaniments / Pickle tray was lacking in size; small below half portions we’ve had before and from other suppliers. Mango had no mango chunks and was tasteless and so watery. Mint dip also very watery and tasteless. Chicken pakora coating was tasteless , chewy and at best the texture of cardboard! Onion bhaji wet greesy and lacking of flavour! Felt very doughy , not sure why? Chicken chat also tasteless. No coriander in sight! Mainly onions! Only edible nice part was the chicken tikka pieces. Shame. Didn’t call and complain as we were not like that PITA customer. Just won’t be back.

POOR SERVICE!!!! Food has taken over 2 hours and still not delivered. I have rang a few time and keep getting told ten minutes. Very poor service. Can’t believe they are still in business.

Popped in last night for something to eat. WOW. The staff are so welcoming and friendly. Rafi and Rob was exceptional. Making sure everything was perfect. And the food was amazing. We had a Tandori mixed grill and it was stunning. Cooked perfectly and the flavours, amazing. I will definitely be going back soon.

We ordered food which arrived late, only to then find we were missing items. Called the restaurant to let them know to just be told "sorry about that". I then received a call stating they'd "just noticed" they hadn't sent some of our order and that it would be with us right away so we waited before starting our meal- 25 minutes later I received another call to say they wouldn't be coming for at least an hour so I might as well take a voucher. I tried to explain that we had waited to eat because they said they were on their way so our food was freezing. The manager said "well what do you want me to do about it?" So I asked for a partial refund and he mocked me saying "just for 2 items missing" over and over. I told him it was for the inconvenience of our food being cold and missing items that we'd waited 40 extra minutes for beyond the original late delivery, to which he replied "do you know what I'll send them out now". They arrived a further 20 minutes later however still missing 1 item but by this point we were just over it as our food was freezing and just not worth the hassle. It's a shame because we were somewhat regular customers up until this point & the food has always been wonderful. I can only imagine the way he treats his staff if that's how he spoke to a customer. A shame really

Fantastic take away from Castle gate. I ordered chicken pasanda and it was delicious. Friendly staff and service. Excellent quality food and good menu choice. We even had a complimentary drink whilst waiting for out takeaway. Nice touch. Highly recommend 👌 Top quality .

I ordered a takeaway from Castle Gate via their website and one of the items I ordered was egg fried rice. I phoned up them immediately after ordering and said to the person to please not add onions to the egg fried rice. We were given the bag with the order and the waiter even said “no onions in the egg fried rice” as it said it on the order receipt stapled to the bag. I get home to find onions in the egg fried rice! They also mis-labeled the two curries we had ordered and both were flavourless, swimming in oil and not very nice to eat. No I didn’t call to complain about it because it took over an hour from order to collection after waiting in the restaurant for 20 minutes and I didn’t want to have to wait any longer to just eat my dinner. Disappointing as we knew it had won a lot of rewards but we would not come back ever again.

Good service with quite friendly staff.. would recommend anyone to visit this restaurant.. Really enjoyed the egg fried rice, it was one of my best dishes 😋 👌... if anyone ever gets lost , wondering around in Wales, Castle Gate is the place to be 💯❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Food OK but over priced for Indian food will not go back

Ordered food has a priority booking on line before the reastraunt opened so it would come early still waiting nearly 3 hours taking the mick

Had a takeaway delivered. Lovely tasty food but for the price, the chicken in the portions was very scarce. Considering it's over £11 per dish for chicken Peshwari and Tikka dry a bit more chicken would be appreciated 🙏🙏

Our order didn’t get delivered despite the fact we have paid a delivery fee. It got to 2 hours so we drove up there to get it as the phone lines were off. This is the SECOND time this has happened to us in a row, it also happened when we tried months ago. We gave you another chance and you failed us yet again. When we finally picked up our order and had to be our own delivery driver, the food was cold and chewy. Please avoid if you actually want your food. Once can be a mistake, twice is just plain awful service. The restaurant wasn’t even busy, only 4 tables were taken and customers sitting in said they’d been waiting over 45 minutes. How this place wins awards I will never understand, the worst restaurant in Caerphilly by far.

We came for the vegan menu but it was very lack lustre. We ordered the sweetcorn fritters which were tasteless. They were practically raw pieces of cauliflower with no taste. We didn’t eat them and asked for them to be removed from the bill but they refused. Instead offering some bhajis which we accepted. I just don’t understand why we couldn’t get our money back. It was overpriced, coming to £75 for mediocre food. The atmosphere was bad and the lighting was extremely bright and overwhelming. The only upside was the young gentleman serving us who was very nice and attentive. Wouldn’t recommend and won’t be back. Waste of money.

This place is absolutely amazing best Indian restaurant I have ever been. thy go absolutely above and beyond 🙌 Robbie and the staff are very nice and make you feel at home wright away and the food is out of this world bringing you the hart of idian food in your local area goto say il definitely recommend to everyone and I am now going to be a lifetime customer.

Wow the takeaway tonight was A1 and not sure I have ever had better anywhere. Was delivered fast and hot and super super tasty. This restaurant is a gem of Caerphilly and a massive thank you to all the team.

This was an off the cuff booking. Oh my goodness! It was such an excellent experience. The food was amazing. The service and atmosphere could not be faulted. The value for money is excellent. We will be coming back. Soon.

On April 11th I received my starter after I'd finished my main and I'm still waiting for my glass of tap water.

I've been to the Castle Gate on several occasions. The food is absolutely gorgeous and reasonably priced. You don't mind paying the prices as its worth the money. The service is very good. It's nice not to rushed between courses. I have also had takeaways from here which have been delicious. Rob the owner is very friendly and has always found the time for a sit down chat with us. His staff are also very polite and helpful. It is a very friendly atmosphere at the restaurant and I would and have recommended it to other friends and family. Keep up the good work. X

Me and my husband had food here last weekend, and to say we left feeling annoyed was an understatement. The food itself was OK, not fantastic. Service was pretty slow. But what annoyed us the most was the price, I completely get they need to increase the price for sit in but not double plus some. For that reason we won't return

An amazing experience! We came in a group for a friends birthday weekend and the food and service did not dissapoint. They accommodated all our food preferences offering a seperate vegan menu and toning down the spice on some dishes without compromising the flavour! This Indian used to be fantastic but the last 3 times I have got take out, it's been very average. I kept returning on the hope that it was just a bad night, but I think I'm safe in saying now that it has deteriorated in quality. Last night, I placed my order online almost as soon as the restaurant opened and was told it would be ready to collect in 35 minutes. I arrived 35 minutes later, to find a very quiet restaurant (only 1 occupied table) and 2 others waiting for their carry out. The staff were nice enough, but appeared to be very disorganised and lacking in training. I was told my food would be "another minute" before the staff member disappeared again. My food was eventually ready 1 hour 5 minutes after ordering, meaning I was sat waiting in the restaurant for 30 minutes. When I got home, I found that I'd been given only 3/4 of the correct dishes, with the 4th being labelled as something similar but not what I ordered. The food itself was average... It was nice enough, but definitely nothing special like it used to be. There wasn't much meat in the sauces, the batter on the chicken pakoras was dense and felt like it was frozen, and the naans also didn't seem to be fresh. Disappointed, think it might be time to try and find a new go-to Indian.

Have been twice now, both times food and service fabulous.

Waited over an hour for food to be delivered and it was hands down the worst curry I've ever had. Naan was clearly supermarket with some disgusting garlic paste on it, couldn't even eat it. Paneer was cooked to within an inch of its life. Chicken in biryani also cooked to within an inch of its life. Will not be returning, chef needs to be taught how to cook.

Had tandoori chicken but instead of the usual half chicken had to 2 legs with very little meat on them and not enough salad.

Ordered takeaway from here and was given a 45 minute delivery time. No problem! Called after 50 minutes for an update and was told they were waiting for the driver waited another 20 minutes and still no food so called again, same person told me it should have been with us 5 minutes before and just wait 5 more minutes and it will be there. Waited a further 15 minutes and called AGAIN this time the person was very confused and the manager came on the phone to tell me my food hadn’t infact left and now had. Tried to tell me he gets it were hungry but what does he want me to do about it. Offered £15 vouchers which I said I didn’t want because after this experience I wouldn’t be returning. Found the manager very rude compared to the other guy I’d spoke to 3 times before. Told him it’s been an hour and a half and I want to know where it is. He told me “count 2 minutes” and it’ll be there if not call back and he’ll give a full refund. Funny enough driver pulled up.. in A complete suit (looked like a waiter) after exactly 2 minutes. I didn’t bother to call back because I don’t want the vouchers as one of our curries was so oily the oil had spilled out the sides of the packaging during transit and then dripped down all over my kitchen worktop, floor and brand new suede shoes which are now ruined with a stain. food was ok not really warm, one basically oil curry and one okay. One very questionable garlic naan other naan fine. Rice as you’d expect I guess.. overall a below par meal for now 5x the price now having the replace brand new shoes!

This was our first time eating in at Castle Gate although we have had many takeaway meals from there. The whole experience was a delight. The staff were helpful and friendly and the food was delicious and prepared without delay. The clean and nicely decorated restaurant was filled with parties of happy customers making a great atmosphere. Really enjoyed my birthday treat.

Really enjoyed our first visit here with friends. Separate vegan menu with lots of choice. Delicious food and good portion sizes. We had onion bahjis and the chickpea curry for starters and the vegan korma plus the potato and tomato curry for mains. We also had vegan bread which were also delicious. Staff really friendly and helpful. Will definitely return.

Sunday night visit to the restaurant was disappointing because we were a group of 4 of only 6 people who were there that night. Food was loverly if a little bit expensive. Staff are loverly. Surroundings great. Not sure if the cost is turning people away.

Went for dinner and was satisfied with the items ordered. Ordered quite a few items vegetable zalfrezi, paneer saag, naga chicken, veg fried rice, garlic naan, and peshwari naan. All the items were good . All the vegetarian options we ordered were good.

Good food, not as good as it was. Far smaller portions, good was still very nice. Waiter spilt to drink over my father in law, only deposit off for the elderly, which they have as standard anyway. But he did get a free pen ... Free gift for kids , with ice-cream in it. Not cheap by any means

I live near Bradford where some of the best curries are made, anyone we who rates this place as good don't know a good curry all I can say is the food was Garbage and you are better off getting a supermarket curry or wetherspoons as they are much better than this place.

Ordered a takeaway delivery, never ordered previously. Really sad to say that we really didn’t enjoy the food, although it arrived promptly and was hot the quality of the chicken which encompassed both main courses was awful, cubed tasteless pieces which were very over cooked. Really sorry to leave a poor review but we were so disappointed.

Great evening out. Our waiter Jack was perfect in his serving of our table. The food was of a very high standard both in taste and presentation. The chef is to be compemented on his cooking skills.

Had a simply delicious takeaway from Robi and his friendly staff - beautifully fluffy rice and stunning chicken dishes all flavoursome and cooked to perfection - the best around by far ! Will be calling in for the Sunday 4 course deal very soon. 👍

This used to be a favorite of ours but dining there Saturday night I was horrified by the prices and the standard of food. £17 for a chicken korma! £18 for a tikka masala and extra for rice! Coconut rice was £5.90! The korma my daughter had contained 6 pieces of chicken. Ridiculous. I remember when a main dish was £8. How can you justify this? Last time after 20 years of eating there will I visit.

The vegan curry was so bland and at least 80% oil it's rare I won't eat a meal.

Highly recommend The Castle Gate restaurant. 5 Star food and service. From the moment we walked in the staff were so welcoming and friendly. Food was served quickly and was delicious. The portion sizes were very generous. Throughout the whole time we were there the staff made sure everything was ok and were always to hand if we needed anything else. We will definitely be returning again soon. Thank you!

We unfortunately turned up on a bad night for the restaurant. There was no welcome just told to sit and wait...our table was ready tho? We asked to order, he went to get his pad and didn't come back. 15 mins later we managed to get the attention of another waiter to order. Our cutlery was used for starter so to pre-empt another wait when our plates came replacements we're requested. Our dishes came out singly in cold serving bowls, again asking for cutlery which then led to us having to twice request our ordered rice. Overall a disappointing experience . We were given a 10% discount on payment but unfortunately we won't return nor recommend

After seeing all the great reviews abt this restaurant I was very surprised with my meal last night, honestly the worst curry I’ve ever had from a takeaway, I love a Balti but this was nothing like a Balti, it was more like gravy, it didn’t taste horrible but it just didn’t taste much of anything! Maybe the other curry’s are nice but the Balti was missing flavour, was really weird! Can’t say I’d be tempted to try them again, which is a pity

Very disappointed with our takeaway last night. When it arrived it was all cold. The curries were bland and had no flavour. Nothing was labelled so didn't know which curry was which. We spent £60 and was very dissatisfied. Looking at other reviews it might just be their takeaways that's disappointing.

Best Indian restaurant we’ve been to. We wanted to meet up with friends we haven’t seen since the pandemic so we picked a half way point of Caerphilly. Searching for ‘the best Indian restaurant in Caerphilly’ we found castle gate, and it didn’t disappoint! The restaurant is warm and inviting. The toilets were clean and very high end looking. The staff were friendly and efficient, and of course the food was amazing! All in all an excellent night out.

No longer a want to go, have been. Great place, easy to park, welcoming entrance. It was packed early evening. The choice of the locals. Spinach is fresh, lamb tender. Service good. Toilets clean. Would I visit again, yeah.

Honestly, the best curry in Caerphilly! Really tasty and good quality! Also, the service you get when you eat in, is amazing. You're really looked after and waiter (not sure of his name) goes above and beyond to make sure you've had the best experience... I went for my 29th birthday and they came out with a bottle of wine as a gift for me. Very kind. Thank you guys! X

Coming there Friday night as my girlfriend says it's amazing. I've travelled the world food tasting so this is going to be exciting for my viewers and for myself.

Cannot rate this restaurant highly enough. They were caught off guard with a really busy Tuesday evening and an absent delivery driver so our order was late and missing some items, but they were so apologetic and went above and beyond to get us our food. And I can't tell you how incredible the food is! Won't be going anywhere else from now on, it's easily the best Indian restaurant in Wales. Thank you :)

Really really disappointed with our take away, first of all we had to warm the food up, it was barely warm, very little flavour to every dish we had ordered, and the egg fried rice was tasteless, absolutely gutted 🙁, won't be ordering again from here.

Awful delivery service, over an hour late. When I called them they didn’t know if the order had left or made, when they eventually answered the phone. Had a meal there recently in the restaurant and the service was just as bad. Food was ok but the experience was disappointing Staff haven’t got a clue what is happening. Such a shame as it used to be much better.

10/10 in every aspect! I come here regularly and every time we are greeted by friendly faces and excellent service. The food here is top quality and made to order. Me and my girlfriend have never had a bad experience, definitely would recommend to anyone thinking of coming here!
