Castle Gate Indian Restaraunt in Caerphilly

What an amazing restaurant this is from the staff ,food and service definitely the best Indian restaurant around, would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates fantastic and authentic Indian dishes, thank you to all the staff at castle gate Indian restaurant top top job .

Placed an order through Just Eat for delivery at 7.15pm. At 7.20pm my husband rang Castlegate, he was told the order was just leaving. At 7.45pm my husband rings again, he speaks to a lady who tells him, the driver is leaving in 5mins, my husband asks to speak to the Manager, the Manager tells my husband the order will be delivered by 8pm. At 8.10pm we drive up to Castlegate. My husband walks in and asks to see the Manager. The Manager steps forward into my husbands personal face and says "you have beef with me?" I am shocked that a Manager would be so confrontational, not only that what has beef got to do with it? Of course my husband reacted as the Manager is stood directly in my husbands face, my husband says "I didn't but you in my face after a confrontation is aggressive". An argument starts, my husband insists on a refund. The Manager then asks my husband to leave the restaurant, he walks out with my husband. My husband follows to a area off the car park. It is then that the Manager tells my husband he grew up in London and was in Brixton Prison with murderers, he continues, he knows where my husband lives. Of course my husband is going to react to this, it's a veiled threat. My husband says do not threaten me. With that the Manager walks away. After this threat, I decide to go into the restaurant. I cannot believe that a Manager would behave in such a way. I ask to see the Manager. I ask him if he threatened my husband? He will not answer this, instead he ignores me and deliberately moves closer to my husband forcing his face closer to my husband, trying to initiate an action. Again I ask him, did he make a veiled threat "I went to Brixton Prison, I was there with murderers, I know where you live?" He would not answer the question instead he drew my attention to the cameras in the restaurant. This did not bother me, infact I stated "good because if anything happens to my husband, myself or our house then the police will be here as we know where you work. I must admit I did feel a little intimidated as the Manager was directly in my husbands personal space, even though it was me who was attempting to talk to him, he also had a member of staff to my right and another to my left and the lady behind the reception desk was behind me. The Manager and my husband were arguing now, I had said my piece and knew it was on camera so I wanted to leave and this is what we did. A Manager is supposed to behave professionally, "you have beef with me" the first sentence he said to my husband does not show professionalism or maturity. Telling my husband he did time in Brixton Prison with murderers and I know where you live, to me sounds like a veiled threat. All we wanted was a meal, delivery was supposed to be 7.15pm, it still wasn't there at 8.15pm. We were given false information, lies which is what it was as it certainly was not the truth. I am sure the Manger will be pleased to know we will not be ordering from Castlegate again. I do not take kindly to threats from a Manager who has served a sentence in Brixton Prison with murderers

Lovely food and amazing customer service from Raffi. He honoured the discount I was promised previously! 10/10 experience would recommend

Had a takeaway from Castle Gate for our daughter’s birthday and we were really impressed. We’ve had a few dodgy takeaways for other places in Caerphilly lately so first time of trying Castle Gate. Food was lovely, tasted really fresh and service was very good. We will definitely use them again . Thankyou !

Ordered a takeaway, arrived after 1 hour, it was cold! No chutneys accompanied the poppadom, was bland and not what we wanted !

Exceptional food +++ Goa fish curry and Gosht Kala Masala - exceptional service from Raffia - wish we lived closer, would be regulars !

Great curry house! Two nights is a row. Second night, my waiter Raffie, tailored the menu for me and hit the spot perfectly. I will be back.

I ordered a takeaway but was disappointed with the food. The onion bhaajis were burnt and tasteless, so dry that they tasted as though they were older ones that had been deep fried - definitely not freshly made. I had to throw them away as inedible. The curries tasted very oily and glutinous, pus I had some grisly bits in the lamb. Would not go back.

Yet another excellent well prepared and presented meal. The restaurant certainly deserves to be a finalist in the Food Awards as its quality is superb. I note that some people have placed negative reviews with regards to waiting times when ordering deliveries and takeaways. The food is prepared fresh and therefore is NOT fast food as people may think when ordering on line.

Never disappoints. A great place with friendly staff. Went with a friend to celebrate her birthday and the meal was, and always is fabulous.

As always, the food is tremendous, the staff add are courteous and attentive. I would always highly recommend the Castle Gate to all of my friends who love a great curry.

Unfortunately the team don't seem to be prepared for collection of orders during busy periods. Meal ordered at 18:25 confirmed that collection would be 19:15, food not available until 19:45!!!

Absolutely appalling service. After waiting an hour for our family meal we were told to reorder or indeed leave if we wanted to go elsewhere! Not sure how they qualified for a top award?

We have been searching for a curry takeaway since moving from Cardiff last November. The service was excellent when calling for delivery and they were accommodating with the changes we requested from their set meal for 2. Food was delivered on time and was of a high standard. Would highly recommend and we will definitely be calling again soon.

Words cannot explain how much I loved dining here. Service was flawless, swanky interior, the food was mouth watering. I will be back here for certain. 10/10 and I would say this is the best Indian food I've ever had honestly!!

First time eating at the Castle gate and will definitely going back. We had the tasting menu and the food was all amazing, including gems such as Flame Rum and coconut and basil sorbet. We followed all the suggestions of Robbie, with advice on which wines to pair with the various courses. He was totally spot on with all his recommendations. I've been here a few times, and each time the food has been phenomenal. Courteous, attentive staff and a wonderful atmosphere. One of the best restaurants in South Wales hands down.....❤❤❤❤❤

We went for the first time last night, what a lovely place to eat! Such a great atmosphere inside, lovely decor and great background music. A wide range on the menu and amazing food specially slay the dragon. Really loved every part of the meal. Robi was very nice and helpful, very refreshing to get such great service. I will be recommending to everyone!!!!!!!!!!

Wow best Indian in Caerphilly. Owner was very welcoming and friendly. Food was delicious couldn’t fault anything. Highly recommend their gosht kata masala (lamb shsnk)!!! I must say their portions for the main was huge, worth the money you’re spending honestly. The waitress kindly gave us takeaway boxes which was great. Highly recommend their authentic Indian tea it was so good! They were very busy but we got seated quick and the service was fast. I’m definitely going back

If you want class, great food and service. Then give The castle gate Indian kitchen & bar a visit. The tour of India menu with pairing wine is fantastic. Probably my favourite Indian restaurant and I'll be visiting again with friends because it doesn't disappoint.Ate here again with friends 17/09/21 as I wanted them to experience the pairing menu. Just cannot fault the place. Attentive staff, extremely well presented food. A great price. Perfect

I haven't been to the restaurant for a few years now, but they didn't disappoint - The Chicken Rogan was delicious and the service was excellent - You lady called Maisie looked after us for the evening..... First-class!!

Found the castle gate on local news paper best Indian restaurant. So had to try it out. Arrived early but was seated anyways. The restaurant was full but still had a modern fresh and young feel to the place. The staff from the start was attentive and friendly. Excellent food from start to finish. Each dish had a modern twist on it. Truly wonderful place to it.

Best dish of the week is special chicken tikka bhuna. The flavour is outstanding and is my currant favourite. Always have a great evening at castle gate and we are always well looked after by Robi & his team. 🙂

So where do I start? All the staff were friendly and I'm sure they were all smiling behind their masks. We were seated quickly and just as quickly got our drinks which is nice because looking at menus is thirsty work, and because it's also hungry work we got some poppadoms and chutneys. And then the food came, and what can I say about the food? Well it was award winning, I'm not joking either just look at the wall when you go in and you'll see their awards from the last few years.So to sum it up if you are thinking about going here, don't think about it. Jump in your car and drive there now, seriously do it you wont regret it.

Very much enjoyed the whole experience. Food excellent, service excellent, staff very pleasant and still adhering to covid measures which was very reassuring. No pressure however to wear masks but staff still wearing them and socially distancing tables used. Very pleased, will definately visit again .

We used to be regular visitors at the Castle Gate when we lived in Caerphilly, but have not visited for some time. Due to covid19 they no longer have the excellent buffet but now a set menu which has a good selection.4 papadums and chutney tray was good (no lime pickle but Thai dipping sauce!).Starters were very good especially my dragon chicken.The main course was ok with fair sized portions, but chicken was tough.I thought it strange that just 5 people were dining on a Sunday evening and there was nobody waiting for take away whereas it used to be packed. So I wonder if it has changed hands? The Diet Coke was flat so there’s little change there!!!A very tall chap came to the table looked at me and said “how is your food Sir” he completely ignored my partner.After we had finished a chap with curly hair asked us if the food was ok, to which my partner said “the chicken was a bit tough”. Curly hair man said “I knew that”partner “ what you knew the chicken was tough”CHM “no I knew you were were going to complain I could tell when you came in”Curly hair man must be a guru as my partner was wearing a mask!!All in all fairly ordinary and I shan’t be going back. There are far better take aways in Caerphilly

lovely food, authentic but not too spicy, we visited the restaurant with short notice but had a great experience even though the restaurant was quite busy.Food was lovely, authentic but not too spicy, we enjoyed it a lot. Best Indian food we had during our holiday.Because the food was made from scratch at the time, it took slightly longer but we were given extra starters as a complement. It was worth the wait.

Good to be back enjoying sit down meals again and great to have Robi back again to! Excellent curry last night including the starter. Cant fault the wonderful service that we always have there.

Rang at 5:10pm to order food to be collected at 6pm. Arrived at the restaurant at 6pm and the food wasn't ready. We waited in the car for someone to bring the order out at 6:25pm and when the bag was checked, they'd only brought out half the order so we had to go in to collect the rest! No apologies for messing up our order or making us wait and as this is the second time we've rung to collect an order, and had to wait nearly half an hour both times, we won't be returning. The vegan curries were nice but the chips were really dry and poppadoms were chewy in places, as if they hadn't been cooked properly.We don't have takeaway very often so a treat once in a while is lovely, but so disappointing when it doesn't live up to expectations.

Decided on a takeaway tonight and it was delicious. North indian Chilli chicken with egg fried rice & chicken tikka biriyani. Lovely onion bhaji and poppadoms sooo nice 😍

Had a xmas eve takeaway which was stunning. Slay the dragon was extremely tasty and so was the North Indian chilli chicken. Add rice & bombay potato 10/10.Cant fault castle gate well worth a visit for fantastic food and service. Merry Xmas to you all

Very friendly service on entering, good setup with separation of tables at the moment. Efficient staff that were all working as a team. Food was great with their own creations really tasty. Thanks for a great evening.

We've been here a few times and the food and staff have been outstanding. We booked on this particular occasion because I was given a £15 voucher to use by the end of November for my birthday. Food was delicious and staff were lovely. A few noisy customers which I know people did complain about but this is not the fault of the establishment. We ordered takeaway to eat the next day. My voucher was upgraded to be used by the end of December and they reduced the bill even further. We gave them a £5 tip for their excellent service. We will return here again and again.

We've been to Castle Gate a few times. The food is fantastic and the service is really good. My daughter asked specifically to go here for her 10th birthday and they made a fuss of her and gave her a present. A real touch of class to go alongside fantastic food.

I tried to order a meal for delivery. The web site stated that the phone line would be open from 15.30 and that deli eyes started at 17.00 How ever there was nobody at the restaurant until 16.45 and after I place ed my order I was told that they would not deliver until after 18.15 They need to read what they have on their website. They will not get any more business from if that's how they are running the place

Ordered take away during lockdown due to corona virus, on arrival I was greeted in a safe manner, they gave me 15% off my order which I was very pleased with, we ordered food to feed 5 but it actually fed 6 the food was amazing very tasty and would deffinatly order from there again very pleased

Had takeaway this evening to celebrate wife's 40th. Very much enjoyed it, tasty bhaji's to start, followed with a chicken tikka makhani for her (not a spice fan) and a Captain Patila for me (very tasty with a hint of heat, would go for something hotter next time, but it was very flavourful), mushroom rice, and a garlic naan. Delivery was spot on time and nice and hot, perhaps the naan could have been a bit warmer but not a problem. Nice of restaurant to throw in a small gift as it was a birthday meal (a genuine Castle Gate mug!)Will visit in person for a sit down meal when Covid regs lift, good first experience of the food and service, thank you!

Visited with my girlfriend and ate from the vegan menu. There was lots of choice and the food was very good. We really enjoyed our meal. Service was good especially considering that the restaurant was busy.

Decided to visit after seeing the Castle Gate vegan menu online. We haven't been here for a while and we're very impressed with the refurbishment. Lovely surroundings and good Covid measures in place. The vegan menu is excellent, especially compared to anywhere else in Caerphilly Borough. There were several choices available for each course and everything we ordered was really tasty. Looking forward to visiting again soon after lockdown.

Visited the restaurant tonight and was delight with the warm welcome and quick service. The waiters and waitress were all very helpful and I couldn’t have asked for more. I have visited here before with my girlfriend and was blown away, we came back tonight and received the same high standards of service and food. Getting on to the food... Amazing! The presentation was spot on and the taste was sublime, the lamb shank was tender and beautifully cooked. Well done Castle gate, I will be back soon!

Hands down one of the best Indian restaurants I have ever been to.The service is beyond five stars, and the food is exceptional. I often travel to India, and this food is very similar to what I would have in the North in terms of authenticity. The value for what you get is amazing too. The staff couldn't do enough for us, and were very accommodating. Honestly, other restaurants could learn from these guys.Absolutely cannot wait to come back!

Came to castle gate last week with family as it was recommend by friends and it definitely didn’t disappoint!The new decoration really gives the place an elevated look and the food was just as amazing...I was especially happy to see they offer a whole vegan menu so I was spoilt for choice.Not only was the food amazing but the service provided by the staff was great. They were very polite and made sure we felt very comfortable during our time in the restaurant. Would highly recommend and will be visiting again very soon:)

The food was very nice. If my review was based on the food alone I'd give it 5/5. Unfortunately it's not good enough when combined with poor service. I could get comparable quality food from a takeaway for a lot cheaper. I can totally confirm the poor service review that was published on the 17th. We were sat at our table for around 10 minutes before anyone took our order. A further 25 minutes later and our drinks hadn't been served let alone the simple starter request of popadoms and chutneys. A further 10 minutes went by..45 minutes after sitting down and no starter and then the waiter arrived with plates and asked if we were ready for the mains. The popadoms arrived at the same time. The male waiter (with a ponytail) has really good communication and was very apologetic. Unfortunately the young lady who served us had no clue about service. They didn't charge for the popadoms which was the least they could do and took £4 off the bill. I'm sure there are teething issues as they've only just reopened. It was a Saturday night so it was busy and it was also uncomfortable to see people waiting for takeaways standing directly behind people sat at tables. It was very busy for takeaways and no doubt that affected the service or lack of service. Not good enough unfortunately.

Had an excellent 5 course gourmet meal for two. Gorgeous food and excellent, very friendly service in the newly refurbished Castle Gate Restaurant. Great decor and a great price so will definitely be back!

Newly refurbished during the current pandemic..And it is brilliant...Well done to Robi and his team..The food was as wonderful as ever and the whole ambience was spot on...We booked a table on their second night of reopening for sit ins...We felt very safe and throughly enjoyed our evening...Can’t wait to return....

We ordered a takeaway this evening and I am pleased to say that it was up to the normal high standard, really delicious. The restaurant is also looking good, me any wife are looking forward to visiting soon.

Typically good food and little to complain of on that but the service is really poor. Robi and team need to step-up their customer service skills should they not wish to loose the top spot in the Indian restaurant-take away category for Caerphilly and surrounding areas.

Went last night and it was great to be in the newly refurbished castle gate. The food was up to the usual good standard with lovely presentation. We were well looked after by Robi and the team and look forward to returning soon.

Ordered a Indian and once again food was incredible. Still the best Indian around and would never go elsewhere. Good prices, lovely food & top class service. Couldn’t ask for anything else. 5* Star!

I live in the local area and usually frequent another curry house but thought that I would give it a go. Blown a way by the quality of the food. Was also very impressed with the manager and the faith and belief he has in his business, its warranted. Highly recommend!

My family and I have always chosen Castle Gate for our Indians and they never disappoint. The Food is delicious and they are always so polite and courteous. They even gave me a present for my birthday :) would definitely recommend!

Have to say the food from this restaurant is first class. The taste, texture, loads of quality with it. Went for the Royal Maharaja (chicken dish), with Keema Rice. Stunning. My wife went for the tikka mixed grill and says it was amazing. Not greasy at all. Full of flavour.I would also like to say that this restaurant also exercises excellent social distancing when picking up a takeaway. You can go into the restaurant to collect and before you do the alcohol gels are placed outside before you go indoors. I personally think this is a better thing to do instead of having the gels inside because you need to touch the door to get in.When we have sat inside the restaurant we have always been made to feel welcome by the owner and the staff and they are rightfully proud of their displayed food awards.This is our go to Indian Restaurant and Takeaway and I hope that it will be for a very very long time yet. Looking forward to being able to sit inside the restaurant once more. Nice one guys. Mr Kevin

Castle Gate has been our go to Indian takeaway for the past year after a recommendation. The staff have always been polite and if there has been any inconvenience (e.g. delivery delays) they have been accommodating and offered extras, even though they don't have to. Last week my partner and I ordered our usual for the first time during lockdown. The delivery service was great and our food arrived a lot sooner than expected. The food was delicious! It tasted fresh and not too oily, which is what we've experienced with other Indian takeaways in the past.Whenever we have family over we usually get a Castle Gate takeaway and everyone who has stayed with us have said it's one of the best Indian takeaways they've had.

Had a lovely meal last night, we had a large order and everyone got exactly what was ordered, thank you for the free bottle of wine and papadams, one of the best takeaways in caerphilly, definitely recommend......

cCOrder was wrong, no fried rice, poperdoms I didn't order, rathia I threw out, curry sauce was like soup. All for£25!

Ordered a meal for delivery. Excellent service. Payment via card. Food was delivered expediently and piping hot. Dylan adored the chicken bhuna as always cooked perfectly. He loved the ice cream. In regard to the restrictions that COVID19 have put upon us and businesses. Order and payment taken over the phone. Delivery driver is masked and wearing disposable gloves and leaves the order on your doorstep. No contact. And Castle Gate is ensuring your and their safety at all times. Well done.

Went here for my birthday meal the food and service was fantastic, nice and clean restaurant, eveyrone was friendly and the parking was no issue the food was tender and juicy if you need somewhere to go relax and have a family meal then go to the castle gate indian in Caerphilly

This is currently our favourite Indian restaurant. It is great that they do both vegetarian and vegan dishes as well. The only criticism is that the vegetarian biryani was not as good as usual. It was nice but usually it is outstanding. However, the rest of the food was very good.

PLace was dirty shelf by me was disgusting seat was dirty and plates arrived with dry stains on them .food was cold and to top it all so expensive .some of our food arrived late side orders came after we meat finished meal .three of us but 2 of us shared the main meal had a fit when it come to over 72.00 .omg went to viceroy ystrad last time three meals and wine etc 64.00 .know where we won't be going again

Pleased to say after not visiting due to being out of the area for a while food and service as good as it always was.

We found ourselves unexpectedly in Caerphilly for a couple of hours, and thought we'd try a curry. The restaurant is a little outside the town center next to a supermarket.

It's really good to see restaurants offering a full vegan menu. There was pleny of choice, and the food was great. The restaurant itself felt a little dark and gloomy, perhaps because a few bulbs needed replacing.

booked a table here for Valentine's day for me and my wife and the experience was great as the food was tremendous and the staff were more than helpful, the table set up was very romantic and me and my wife appreciated the extra effort put into making the night special however I don't feel like everyone got the same experience on the night as we did but never the less I would like to thank Castle gate for the night and I will definitely be back soon.

Went here for a meal with my girlfriend for Valentine’s Day, The food was excellent and the service was brilliant despite it being busy and one or two tables causing more trouble than was needed the waiters handled the pressure well and managed to resolve the issues to the best of my knowledge. The restaurant performed extremely well under the pressure of the night I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone. They definitely serve the best curries/Indian Dishes in Caerphilly. A big 5 star rating for me; I will be returning for many meals in the future.

Absolutely appalling service that spoilt not just mine and my partners valentine's but many more that also walked out. You prioritised takeaway over people sitting in your restaurant having booked tables and spending money ordering drinks then had ordasity to try and charge for the mains that hadn't appeared after nearly a two hour wait with no sign of food other than bag after bag of takeaway food seems we would have been better off ordering to take out as people were ordering and 20 mins later walking away with their order. No apology offered just rudeness. Not a way to treat your customers remember it's your customers that leave word of mouth and customers that keep a business going.

Had another Indian here tonight, it was faultless. Meal was amazing, great value for money and a friendly service. Recommended to anyone. Certainly the best Indian around.

Visited on Valentines Day with my husband. Had a table booked & when we arrived it was utter carnage as 2 customers called Dave had gone home with the wrong Dave's order & another customer was kicking off as he had been waiting an hour for his takeaway! Eventually seated 15 mins later. There was a long wait for service and eventually got our food an hour after being seated. It is clear that it was understaffed and we were told there was staff sickness. Food was lovely couldnt fault it & we actually had quite a comical evening watching alot of people complaining about lengthy wait and getting irritated including ourselves. I would have visited again and given the place a 2nd chance until ... our bill came to £15 more than we pay at another indian which we frequent regularly. I nicely queried the bill as I had also had 15% NHS discount to which I was advised by the Manager that 'It was not a fish & chip shop love'. He then asked somebody else to sort my query out. All the other staff were lovely & he should take a leaf out of their book. I understand the manager was obviously stressed but I was very dissapointed at his rudeness & unprofessionalism. The bill was in fact incorrect and I was ignored by the manager until I challenged his behaviour prior to leaving where he did apologise. For this reason I shall not be returning!

Ordered takeaway several times from here but it wasn't until we went to another Indian takeaway that we realised the vast difference between both takeaways.

We booked a table for 8.15 on Valentines night and turned up promptly for our table. We were greeted and told "2 minutes and we will sort your table", so we took a seat and waited.

Having had a warm welcome we received very acceptable meals which all three of us enjoyed. Whilst I am not too well acquainted with Indian meals this one was one of the better ones I have had.

Adults and children had the Sunday buffet today at Castle Gate, plenty of variety for us all! They brought out fresh food regularly for everyone! Couldn’t do enough for our little children. Josh Castle was a very polite Waiter and couldn’t do enough for us. We will be visiting again soon. Thank you

Fabulous Indian restaurant in a small shopping precinct on the outskirts of Caerphilly. Friendly welcome, plenty of staff, restaurant was full with diners and people wanting takeaways - absolutely buzzing! Huge menu with some unusual choices too. Food came out really well presented and was of great quality. Plenty of it too and you could taste the spices they’d used.

Thanks to Castle Gate for an amazing meal, always amazing tasty food and great service. Plus as it’s my birthday I get mine for free! Best Indian in Caerphilly

We have just had a wonderful Buffet Lunch today, there were five adults and five childrenand the food was amazing. All the food was put out fresh for our arrival and all taken away and freshly replace for the next large party. We will definitely be back. Thank you for a wonderful meal, great service from the very friendly staff who couldn’t do enough for us.

Hadn’t been here in years, as we don’t live that close by anymore, but we fancied a curry and wanted to try somewhere different.
