We had a day out yesterday and ended up here for coffee. The sign at the entrance said the cafe was open until 4.30. As it was just before 4 when we parked round the back we thought we had plenty of time. However when we entered the cafe I approached the counter to order I was told in no uncertain terms that they were shut. When I pointed out that their sign had said it was open until 4.30 the rude assistant pointed to the sign on the counter which said last orders 4. I said it was 4 and we only wanted coffees she said 'well we're shut'. You would think that after 2 years of pandemic that businesses would be grateful for any money they could get, well that's not the case in this cafe. We had been going to buy some plants but left empty handed and on the way out told the assistant in the shop that we wouldn't be back. Their loss is someone else's gain

Called for the first time yesterday and we were pleasantly surprised with the variety and the price of the plants that they had to offer. Well done to all concerned.

I went into garden centre with my wife to look at bedding plants and to see if I could get seed potatos. I did'nt see any potatos on display so I went into the shop and politely asked the female staff member if they had any seed potatos. The reply I got was an abrupt "no we don't have any seed potatos". I then left the garden centre, and I certainly will not be back, I'll give someone else my custom.

Came on Friday 13th April for lunch with my wife and dad. It's very clean looking place , staff were very polite and helpful. Tea was lovely and hot but just enough to for one cup not sure if you can go back up and ask for more hot water but would have liked a second cup. Breakfast very good got extra egg as I don't eat bacon I,ll give it 9/10 would of been a ten out of ten if there was sum tin tomatoes. Good quality sausages. Wife had big bow of spaghetti Bolonasia had a taste lovely just missing bit of parmansan cheese would of made it perfect. Dad had the lovely fish cakes and chips they were scrummy very good 10/10 , scones were lovely soft inside very light. Please if you can get rid of the small butter packets and jam just give a tiny dish with butter and jam help save the environment as some of that is non recycling. But this is easily by far the best breakfast I ve ever had in Castle Douglas by miles we will be back

On holiday with family and due to a Sunday early checkout we needed to find somewhere for breakfast. Good old TA to the rescue and we were pointed in the direction of this place. Wide selection of breakfast items and gluten-free stuff as well so everyone in the party was catered for. Good portions and well presented so the journey home was well fuelled Give it a try if you are in the area

We nearly passed this garden centre, it is def. a hidden gem. When you see the sign drive round to the back, there is a large gravelled car park and you can access the garden centre from there. The coffee shop is through here. The coffee shop does a variety of food and offers GF food. The scrambled egg on toast was excellent and I had the GF millionaire's shortbread. Very nice

I have visited this wee garden centre many times always a good selection of plants and shrubs . The staff are friendly with lots of knowledge of plants and local agenda. The cafe side is value for money with good selection food and drinks and again friendly staff. The whole complex although Wee compared too some other competitors is kept clean and tidy and most of 'non pushy' of plants or other seasonal products .

I like the option of having a look around the garden centre, which is not too big and does have a good variety of plants for indoors and outdoors. The café is pleasant and not too expensive.

Stopped for a coffee before planning to look through the garden centre as I tend to get carried away and fill the car, ordered 2 coffee's, after 20 minutes and seeing other customers that came in after us getting food and coffee complained and was informed it was just coming (no apology) after a futher 10 minutes and a customer that came in after I complained also got served we informed her not to bother with the coffee and left didn't bother with their garden centre I hope the money they got from me for the coffees they gave to charity

Four of us had an early Christmas lunch at the Garden Centre and Coffee shop yesterday. We are all local, and had been before, either for coffee or a snack. We had booked in advance, which was not essential but meant that when we arrived the table was set for us, with crackers and decorations. All of had two courses, as the choice was good ( including a veggie option). The food was delicious and the portions very generous. Highlights included a lovely prawn cocktail, fantastic veg and well cooked pork, the turkey was pretty good too. Staff were great and the only down side was having to rush off, so we had no time for coffee. Tremendous cooking, tremendous value.

What a truly spectacular place we were allowed access out of season but this has to be the best scenery in the UK you are ever likely to see. . You have trees 100's of years old, US red cedars, monkey puzzles, conifers beyond belief you name it. Two huge Lochs both accessible, bird watching hides, coffeehouse and walks clearly marked long and short. Great for all ages including children.

I had the dish of the day; meatballs in tomato sauce. Finished off with mouth watering roulade and fresh raspberries. Coffee excellent to finish.

This is a lovely clean restaurant that we like to pop into, especially if we're shopping at the garden centre attached. The staff are always very friendly and helpful and the restaurant has a selection of normal tables or a corner with a leather couch which we opted for this visit. We were only having tea and cake, but we really enjoyed it. After ordering at the counter, our golden marmalade cake and pot of tea were delivered to us at our table and we were left alone to thoroughly enjoy it. All of the cakes are home baked and we loved how moist and tangy the marmalade cake was - a generous slice served with whipped cream. Along with our pot of tea for two, we paid £7.30, well worth it for the cake alone. Always love eating here.

There are many different things to see at the gardens, more interesting if you appreciate trees, shrubs and flowers. There are a number of different walks to suit the energy you have, great to walk your dog as well (dogs must be kept on a lead). Went into the cafe and was a bit underwhelmed with the food. We had baked potatoes which could have done with a bit longer cook time to make then a bit softer. The staff however were extremely friendly and the service was good.....pity about the food quality! Still a great place to visit though.

Having heard positive impressions of the café and shop we went hoping for a nice lunch. We're not sure if we visited on a bad day but the meal was not that great we had Panini's and cappuccinos that were both below standard in terms of taste and ingredients. I doubt we'll return in the future.

We ate here and finished our meal, the waitress cleared away and we decided we'd have another round of drinks before leaving. We waited 5, 10 minutes and the waitress never came back. I went in search of someone but couldn't find our waitress. I didn't like to open the doors to the kitchen. We waited another 5 minutes and my wife said 'this is ridiculous' and went off in pursuit. She found our waitress in the bar (was she watching TV, did she fancy the barman?) and asked if we could get some service. The waitress said 'the restaurant is closed', as if we were being unreasonable in expecting to be served a round of drinks. No, the restaurant isn't closed if you've still got people sitting at a table you're serving and you haven't asked them if they want a dessert or offered them the bill but simply buggered off. So we said OK, can we just pay the bill. Which we did, and obviously didn't leave tip. We won't be going back.

This restaurant is part of Smiths hotel at Gretna Green. We were in the final days of our holiday in Scotland and wanted to have a special meal. We were staying at the hotel and saw this had good reviews. Well it didn’t disappoint. It was good that you could pick and mix from the a la carte menu and the bar menu. Every course was very good. Because we had courses from both menus I didn’t think it was too expensive. The service was good although it was very busy with other events going on. The staff were kept busy but were still attentive to our needs. Would recommend if you want something special or just for an evening meal.

A super bed and breakfast with a lovely vegan curry and home baked ecclefechan tart in the bar which had an open fire. Steve and Mary looked after us like a mum and a big brother. Could not do enough for us including a very welcome lift to and from hoddom Bridge as we were walking the annandale way. And a packed lunch to order. Will recommend to all, especially walkers.
