Castle Cusine in Newark and Sherwood

Went to the Castle for a meal on a Saturday and evening and weren't to be disappointed. Put simply, it was gorgeous. The staff were friendly and happy the entire duration of our stay and couldn't do enough to make the meal enjoyable. The curries were a flamin' triumph, literally and we just didn't want the meals to end. Every mouthful was beautiful, the meats fell apart in your mouth and the rices were tasty in the extreme. If you go to an Indian in the future, go to The Castle

Came here with my girlfriend looking for an affordable Indian with good value for food, and got what I wanted! Was a busy Saturday, but they had another section away from the noise where we could enjoy our beautiful chicken nagas in bliss~ Would recommend, keep in mind to BYOB and book in advance especially on Friday/Saturday.

Last Saturday I ordered a takeaway for me and my family and it arrived on time. It was absolutely perfect - the curries and rice were filled to the brim of the containers and my whole family loved it.

We ordered a takeaway from Castle Cuisine and, based on reviews, were looking forward to a good curry feast. Instead it ruined our night. The only redeeming features were the samosas and rice, the rest of the meal was thrown away as inedible. My partner’s lamb tikka madras was bright red, a colour I have never encountered for such a dish, the lamb was bland, no evidence it had ever seen a tandoori oven, the sauce was bland and the colour was shocking. I had tandoori king prawns. I can only guess at how long these prawns had been cooked, or, worse, had been cooked and reheated. They were so soft as to be disintegrating, a pile of half fried onions bulked out the dish. Not remotely worth the £13.95 charged. As for the sag paneer, it was verging on trades description. The spinach was dry, tough and barely spiced, the “paneer” was some sort of melted cheese that congealed into clumps. Paneer is an easy to get Indian cheese that when fried does not melt, instead it should be cubes of cheese that take on the flavour of the sauce. The breads were stodgy and even the garlic mushroom puri was massacred. When we complained, the attitude was that we were somehow odd to have not enjoyed our meal as customers were all satisfied and it had been the same for 10 years. No recompense was offered, instead a paltry 20% discount when we next ordered. This was simply not good enough. We would never eat at this restaurant again and would not recommend. Appalling.

Ordered take away to be delivered to campsite, time wise we’re good …But 1……..They missed off 1 complete meal ….which we had to phone to get it brought back …which arrived in 10 mins ,…and 2……chicken tikka masala was not nice ,it was about 5 bits of tough chicken in a horrible red sweet sauce….. Which tasted gritty like sugar…. I’ve I traveled all over India north and south and Never had anything like it , the Biryani was nice , rogan again chicken was tough , and not eaten , chapatis were small and because been in plastic bag were floppy … Don’t think we will order from here again when in the area ….

I have made many bad decisions in my life but this is an absolute exception. Ordering takeout from this place singlehandedly erased all of the stress I was feeling over the day. The chicken curry was succulent and the parota complemented it nicely. This resturant always manages to give the most delicious food.

The food is the best Indian meal we’ve ever had. Do not go to any other Indian Restaurant. Ansar and his staff are extremely friendly.

Great service ; the waiter was a really humorous comic guy. The food was served punctually and with very good grace. Acceptable time between courses. Basic decor inside but food was very tasty especially Salmon Tikka and Duck Jalfrezie. No licence here so you may take your own favoured tipple. Situated in an unremarkable street but well worth a visit. No intrusively loud music to disturb conversation.

The food we had was really nice and the service was good the only thing I would say is that we ordered two dishes which were different and to be honest they tasted the same. My friend also said his curry was nice however it had very little chicken in it. Would be sceptical to revisit

After finding the Castle Cuisine on the internet we decided to have our evening meal there to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. Never been before and had a fabulous meal served by Mr Mia who was a very helpful and friendly person. The rest of the staff were very cheerful too. Would recommend this restaurant as the food is excellent. We would definitely go back when we come back to Newark. Thank you. Rita and Ray

Having read so many good reviews my wife and I decided to visit Castle Cuisine for the first time for a pre-concert meal. On arrival only 3 other tables were occupied but the sole waiter was rushing about taking orders, delivering food and handling phone calls from takeout customers. Opting for a Cobra and a white wine (both non-alcoholic) we were abruptly told with no apology that neither were available despite being on the drinks menu, and that all they had was Becks. Drinks were then ordered and reasonably promptly delivered, by which time we were ready to order, and did so. It was a cold evening outside, but no cosy warmth emanated from the wall-mounted heater and my wife resorted, as did several other diners, to putting her coat back on. Perhaps our waiter was keeping warm rushing about as he did! Some 30 minutes later our food arrived and in fairness, wasn’t too bad but not hot (temperature-wise) enough and expecting better, having read so many good reviews, I was quite disappointed. We shall not, therefore, be rushing back!

We have had several meals as takeaways from Castle Cuisine recently. All were delicious and plentiful portions. Free delivery to our area is a bonus too. I would recommend them without hesitation.

I felt like having a heartwarming Indian yesterday night and this restaurant delivered. Food was delivered within an hour, with the drivers wearing adequate protection. Food was thoroughly enjoyed, and the dishes came exactly as described.

I have been wanting to try this place for ages, and finally got round to having a takeaway from here. My partner and I have different tastes I like spice, and he doesn't so we pick two totally different meals but what we could agree on is there was no taste! there was hardly any flavor, I had a Lamb Madras and my other half had a Chicken Biriyani. My dish was spicier than it needed to be, but the meat was good, and my partners was just bland as hell but again the meat was good. But we both noticed they must use a serious amount of coloring agents, as I have had many, many curries in my life, from many Indians up and down England. But I have never turned the water red after going to the toilet the next day, and my partner went and it turned green!

Popped into this restaurant for a even Meal, the service was very Good, price are very reasonable and most of all our meal was excellent, We tried the chilli combi meal and it was very tasty and well worth a try.

Ok you have to bring your own alcohol which does keep the cost down but is not ideal..However the cuisine is one the best curries I had in years ....the honey pineapple chicken tandoori is a masterpiece..great service from all the team with a special mention to the boss who handled all our requests and banter with smile and good sense of humour himself ....great restaurant...highly recommended

We thought we'd try this out, we normally go to the Ashiana, this place is not as good but is cheaper, so there you go. The food was ok but not riveting, however more than acceptable. décor not brilliant, and some of the staff seemed a bit tired, languid. Still, I would eat there again at a pinch.

Bangladeshi run , the food came highly recommended. Ordered poppadoms with 4 dips not outstanding on taste. The tandoori fish for starter was ok. Very warm friendly service here. Locals like it it seems. The prawn and veg dopiaza we had for main again was ok Average.the mango lassi we had to drink was very good, who need s alcohol,!

Ordered a takeaway for two. Sheek Kebab, Garlic chicken Karahi, Chicken Tikka Naga, 2 portions of plain rice a chapati and a portion of Sag Paneer. We only live a 5 minute drive away. We take delivery after paying over £30. The order was luke warm at the best best, but was bordering on cold???? The Kebab was tasty, although cold. On to the mains, cold, chicken on both meals was dry and tough???? sauce on the Karahi, what sauce?? Absolutely disgusting, I did ring the restaurant to complain, disinterested would be an understatement.

Usually go here for any kind of work do or just generally with the family. The food is delicious - I've never had a negative experience here and have been multiple times. I'm a vegetarian and so the range and choice is just fantastic, and the food is sooo nice.

Although we live twenty five miles away,its always worth the journey to enjoy the delights of The Castle.Great food and friendly service all add up to a wonderful night out. It certainly is well worth a visit.

I've eaten in this restaurant a couple of times now and have been pleased with the wide choice of tasty food, delivered with really friendly service. The restaurant doesn't have a drinks licence but makes it very easy to bring your own alcohol, providing a corkscrew and glasses for no additional charge. If you're used to ordering a few drinks to go with your meal, you'll do a double take at your bill here - it's excellent value.

We get a takeaway from here roughly once a month and love everything about this place. Food is amazing, good price. Although we decided to sit in for my birthday meal and the same order was 15 pound more for 2 drinks more soft drinks more than usual. I found it hard to understand :/ apart from that food was nice.

I had the pleasure of visiting this restaurant with my wife, we were looking for somewhere to eat and thought about here so we had a walk up and we arrived half an hour before it even open, yet they let us in let us take a seat and look at the menu, we were made to feel extremely welcome, not only that when the food did arrive it was excellent the staff were nothing short of a perfect example of what waiters/waitresses should be attentive enough but not too much as to be intrusive, the bill was also extremely reasonable, it was the first time i had been in since they moved premises, the new place was also very neat and tidy and modern. A lovely meal out thank you, we will definitely be visiting again, the best Indian in Newark by a country mile.

friends night out, one of the group eats here often and on his recommendation we booked a table. We soon appreciated why, a warm welcome, great food and service. interestingly they do not have a drinks licence so you have to take your own alcohol (they do have plenty of soft drinks). as there were 4 of us we tried many items on the menu from hot to mild and quite a few sides, we basically had 4 courses and the total bill was £111. We all agreed this was fantastic value for quality food, there was a nice atmosphere and surprisingly busy for a Thursday evening many tables turning over twice whilst we were there. We will certainly return, 3 new customers, well done at the Castle.

Just been to the castle cuisine in Newark for meet up with work friends. A few colleague's couldn't make it so we moved to A smaller table. For a Sunday night it wasn't very busy but the takeaway services was. The food was very good with lots of flavour. Staff very prompt at bringing the food and checking we were ok. The desert was the only disappointment with no rocky road cheese cake but would definitely go back again and again.

I saw castle cuisine as an ideal place to meet a few friends I haven't seen in a while. A major positive is the fact that you can bring your own alcohol which I loved and the service has friendly, giving us coolers for our wine and ice as well. I liked the murgi matter and the castle special garlic chilli karahi was a mouthwatering dish to say the least.

We Eat here on a regular basis food and staff always first class. Takeaway service is also outstanding. Take your own drink as they do not have a licence but this makes the evening cheaper....glasses etc supplied no charge.

We decided at the last moment to nip out for a curry. Once again excellent food and always a little bit cheaper as it's a BYO booze restaurant. Tandoori Mixed grill for my wife and Mahal Chicken for me just melted away. Always a good feed here with outstanding staff

Went here as the other Indian was fully booked, haven’t been since it moved into new building, no wait for table managed to get seated straight away, was busy so slight wait on service but nothing to complain about.

I ordered a takeaway order from this restaurant, after hearing from a couple of people that this was a prime place for a good Indian meal. After ordering the meal I went to collect in a busy atmosphere and it was surprisingly ready before the stated time (impressively) and they also gave a few extra poppadoms. The meal was extremely delicious, freshly produced and well prepared; it's worthy of being called true Indian taste compared to any other Asian cuisines I've had. Together the time efficiency, extra apperitisers and spectacular meal has put this restaurant at the top consideration when ordering again!

We booked a leaving party meal for our friend at Castle cuisine last week. I was particularly happy with the chicken Madras and lamb jalfrezi which was outstanding!I loved the atmosphere and the service the waiters gave, which made it feel welcome and very friendly.A super thumbs up from me!

We have used castle cuisine many times for both restaurant and take away and have always have found the food to be of exceptional quality. Unfortunately this is no longer the case. When our take away arrived this evening the bhajis were cold a d greasy and did not have the accompanying raitha sauce or salad. We ordered popadoms that were not in with the order. Two of the dishes were described as medium and were both incredibly bland. (We have had both dishes before and so know that they should have been alot spicier than they were ) the tandoori chicken also did not come with raitha sauce. We rang the restaurant to ask where the missing items were and were informed we could either have them the next time or they could send them straight out. We chose the latter as I'm afraid we won't be using them again. Such a shame as they were once the best indian taken away in the area.

Good range of dishes - something to suit everyone. Friendly service and food hot and fresh. I do like the fact that this restaurant uses hot service platters to keep food warm. You can also take your own drinks meaning that this makes the cost of a meal more competitive. We will be back!

The restaurant itself is in an old building and a bit cramped but still quite nice. I wasn't aware of this place until quite recently and I suspect that this is quite a new venture, it would be nice if they could move up in the not too distant future. The manager seemed very keen and helpful and the service was pretty good. All in all pretty good but with one exception, the food was EXCELLENT! We really enjoyed everything we ordered and the prices were very competitive. Will definitely be going back for more.

We went there as a family get together. We all have different dietary needs, so we was lucky that they could accommodate for us. The atmosphere was nice and the food was excellent. Staff were really friendly too. We had other things for that night so am glad this place gave our food on time. I would definitely recommend checking this place out.

We had a very fun evening for four. The food was excellent. The service was very hit and miss and we had a long wait for our starter and then an even longer wait for our main. Ive just eaten there.nothing wrong with the food or the service. Both the menu outside the door and the menu i was given at the table were the take away menus. I paid the bill thinking it was a bit much, then checked with the outside menu,then went in to complain .i was then told that the inside menu was a different price and shown the menu. The difference is quite a lot £2 on a main dish, about60p on a nann. If i had known the real price i would have gone elsewhere. I feel cheated.

The food is very good, freshly prepared and well presented, prepared with spices so the different dishes had subtle flavours. Not strong chilli in everything, you really could taste the differences. The menu outside the door shows different prices to the menu at the table, the meal for 2 being £5 more. Plenty of staff, but I would say they don't really enjoy their work. There was a lack of warmth generally, one person for drinks, another to order the meal, another to serve etc. It took a long time for our courses to arrive. A large-screen TV on the wall above the bar showed a film with quite loud sound that I found so distracting I moved so I could not see it.There's room for improvement of the overall experience but the food itself is very good, if the other things improved I would rate it very good all round.A big plus is BYO wine etc.

Friends and I regularly visit here for food, the best curry house in Newark in my opinion! Very welcoming and accommodating to our various requests to change things on the menu (such as combination dishes.) The food is always delicious whether eating in or having a takeaway. Reasonably priced, great menu selection, great for any occasion!

Ordered a take away, was a little cold whdn it arrived but wasnt a problem as just popped in microwave for a couple of minutes. Must say its one of the best curries I have had in a while. Rice well 1 portion is enough for 2. Will definatly order again.

Sure, it was a Monday night so they were not busy by any means but the food was truly excellent and the service impeccable.Everything that was served from the cheerful chutneys and warm popodoms to the glistening and delicious spicy curry with a great garlic naan ; all were wonderful.Presentation was good and the service second to none.Well done, Castle Cuisine - top marks and thank you.

Been here a couple of times now when in Newark visiting friends. Last night's meal was very tasty and served in a prompt manner, the restaurant doesn't have a drinks license so you take your own beers. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and would attend again.

Haven't been to eat in but had a takeaway. It's nice to find an Indian chef that knows how to cook a proper Jalfrezi and naan bread. My prawn pathia was lovely and so was my tandoori fish starter. Will definitely be visiting again. Keep up the good work

I have to admit that I agree with some of the other reviews, the place lacks some atmosphere. However, the food is good and the price is fair. Menu: to a degree the menu gives too many options. They also offer take out including delivery, which we have used, it certainly solves the atmosphere issue. Good India, fair price, reliable takeout & delivery too.

Decided to call in on a Friday night, it was early so got straight in but soon got very busy. The food was excellent with very good service. Plenty of staff. Nice to be able to take your own drinks which they provide a glass and even ice for my G&T.

I recently had a meal here as part of a small group. We have eaten here before so knew what to expect with the food, as usual it was good, nothing special but still tasty and fresh. The real thing that is lacking here is atmosphere, something needs to be done to give a more authentic, cosy dining experience.

We have eaten here several times and always been impressed. However, having had two meals here in the past month our views have changed. Service is certainly not what it was - slow and lacking the friendliness and attentiveness we have previously experienced. The food also seems to have lost some of the qualities that raised this restaurant above the norm - it's still ok but nothing more. A shame as I would, until this month, always have recommended this as the best place for a curry in Newark. Now I am not so sure. The place seems to have lost some of its sparkle and individuality. Oh well, time to try somewhere else!

I went to this restaurant with work mates. The food was delicious and there was a lot of it for the price. We had the party menu which was £16 and a lot of food. It's good that you can take your own bottle too. Definitely recommend this restaurant.
