Came in and was warmly welcomed by a member of staff. Order was taken quickly and were sat on a clean table. Food was brought out quickly and tasted very good. Our server, Aimee, was very nice when clearing the plates and offered us desserts which we took her up on. Drinks were finished and we left the establishment with a nice goodbye from the staff. Will be coming here again and definitely recommend it.

Lovely Carvery with a great selection of vegetables and meat. Very generous with their carvings of meat! The service was exceptional and quick. Karl is very friendly and polite!

Good place for kids, portion size where good The mixed grill was great along with the rest of the food. Service key then down, wanted the kids meals with the starters, but instead all the food turned up at the same time

Went to the racecourse for a family meal on Sunday 21st and have to say the food was very average. The meats were nice but the veg was awful and cheap especially the roast potatoes, they tasted and felt like rubber. Not impressed compared to a month ago when we last visited

We are a family of 6 and took our son there last night for a celebration evening meal, the greeting we recieved upon arriving and the staff were absolutely wonderful, friendly with a real personal feel and made us all so welcome with a 1st class service.the food was great and i would highly recommend as we will be returning very soon. Manythanks for giving us all a superb evening.

the food was dry and bland and clearly had been sat under the lights for a long time. My friend only realise after using her vinegar it had flies in. The cutlery was grubby and the staff seemed lethargic and bored. Harley got an apology after finding flies in the vinegar. Spent extra money on deserts and the waffle seemed stale and cold unfortunately this place has gone really downhill. It use to be a favourite of ours but not the same anymore. It felt really grubby and unhygienic will not be returning

Great restaurant to come and eat/drink. They messed up with our bill and charged us for 2 of the same meals however the lovely gentleman with the colourful shirt was really helpful. I will definitely return again soon and I would recommend this lovely restaurant to everyone.

Megan welcomed us, showed us to the table we'd only reserved by phone 30minutes before and couldn't have been more helpful throughout our visit. With 2 LD adults, 2 tired children and 2 hungry toddlers we found this high level of service really helpful! Nothing was too much trouble. Please thank the whole front of house team. Food was OK. Nothing to particularly write home about, but good value for the price and the kids ate free. 8 of us was £127 including softdrinks. good menu choices plus carvery. , happy to accommodate gf and df too. A choice of gf deserts!!! And df icecream!! We definitely recommend this restaurant.

We have visited your restaurant to come for a Sunday carvery and for everyone at my table to be shocked to find your unhygienic workers to have spiked us with hairs which put everyone off of there meal and also the rough clientele which felt like they where towering over us and when speaking to staff they tried to tell us it was a ‘scratch on the plate’ but this was very clear it was a hair and they where then very aggressive with us onwards from this incident

Great place,play area has plenty of children not being supervised by their parents unfortunately with 8/9 year olds in the baby and toddler section

Went for dinner Friday night. Service was amazing. Food was great too. The young manager was very helpful as well as all of the staff.

Great food. Always go to have food with my family. The kids enjoy the food & soft play/park.

Food was decent but there were hairs in our food didn’t want to eat it after that. Manager said that they were scratches until I picked the hairs up they gave us a refund afterwards

Expensive also the chef that carved our meats had dirty fingernails and a beard with no hair net on his chin!

We would like to say we come regularly to the racecourse but being a last resort we thought we should. However on this occasion your carvery was disgusting. The food is dried up and hard. I asked was stuffing fresh on reply he said yes however it was like eating a rug so solid and dry potatoes and parsnips so dry they hardly had any insides. Your establishment was hardly busy yet the servery sits full and drying up. Not only that the chef looked bored too FUNFORT! Absolutely stinks of urine and the staff would rather sit on the desk colouring in! Rather than looking proactive in cleaning and making the place and being presentable. Also giving details on the desk is also a breach in GDPR as other customers can see your information I'd like to see an improvement otherwise i won't be visiting again. It's disgusting and very disappointing

Gammon was overcooked and salty but rest of food was good

Had carvery bit stingy on meat very thinly sliced. Veg can be hit and miss too. But we were lucky and some veg had been topped up so was hot. Had the carvery dessert deal. Desserts looked a bit dried out and lots had ben pre cut in the cabinet. So had a sundee. Staff are friendly though. And you get what you pay for I guess.

I was holiday from Canada, I took my family to the restaurant. April 11 2023. I have been here 5 years ago and it was excellent. Very disappointed food was barely warm and dried up. The only thing that was hot was the gravy. The waitress and bar staff were lovely. I should have complained but it was my last night of my vacation, and did not want to embarrass my family.We will not go back next visit. Shame on you for serving old cold food. If you read the revue properly you would see I was there a month ago. My brothers live in Norwich so yes you can do something !!!!

People's children running about like screaming lunatics doesn't make for a great meal out experience. Parents, think about other people and take charge of your own children.

The several times we were there in the bar area having a drink, unfortunately there were children running back and fore. So it was really spoiled by the young children not being looked after or not being told to stop by the staff. Shame, it could be a nice place.

Family friendly great carvery and also good selection from menu, very good for large parties, gets very busy which is a good sign, been here loads of times over the years and always enjoy it, would recommend

The food isn't exactly great however, the meat is ok, vegetable selection is bad (no cabbage or broccoli), potato's are awful and cauliflower cheese tasteless and mushy. The desserts howeverare divine for some reason!!! But it is really really affordable which is why I take my kids there! It's a compromise for sure. Edit* I added a star.... there seems to be more and better veg! Better quality for sure and I've been back twice

Had meals here often , but going down hill rapidly. Last visit on a Thursday at about 5.30pm had a carvery. It was absolutely disgusting, Luke warm, meat was tough,potatoes were chewy, veg soggy . Think the.food had been left for at least two hours . Didn't even eat to take left overs for the dogs like we usually do !The cost was 5 pounds more per person than another nearby carvery .The menu for other food was very sparse. Won't be going any more

The food was cold but the gravy warmed it up a bit. It all taste the same. It is family-friendly and well laid out. The service was good.

Maybe time I went 7.15 pm , but food under lights dried out , Meat ok , very average.

Just popped in on our way home. The interior is a bit on the dark side, upholstery on some of the cloth chairs could do with a good scrub. The female staff were pleasant and helpful as for the Carvery nothing special limited choice on the meats bit on the pricey side compared to and much preferred Capt. Mamby in Gorleston .

Very poor. Avoid. Food terrible, all staff miserable as sin especially the barman called Tom. 10 of us , spending £150 plus, everyone said the same. Won’t return

Went for a carvery at tea time and the veg was hard the meat was ok but it wasn't very worm it's gone downhill since the last time we went for a meal.

Had carvery ,beef and pork ,plenty of fresh hot veg ,very enjoyable very edible ,no complaints very good value

Well this place is always a cheap no thrills roast which is normally all okay. But today standards fell, first no meat was available for 10 minutes yet all the veg was left to dry out under the lights. Gammon was served with 50/50 fat proportion. Cherry on the cake was we had the kids come through and inform us about some children who were stabbed to death...turns out they have the news channel playing in the child soft play.

Food was decent, the baguette however was really dry and wasn't at all what I expected for a carvery baguette. The service wasn't great, the lady serving me wasn't rude and didn't seem to know the menu at all.

The roast was awful. The roast potatoes were so hard you couldn't eat them. It wasn't very warm either. The staff started clearing our tables in their coats while people on other tables were still eating as they wanted to close up early. I will not be recommending you to anyone unless things change

Went to the Racecourse last night, me and my friend had a carvery and the food was really nice - lots to choose from and everything was fresh and hot on the counter. The guy on the carvery was really polite and friendly. Only thing I would say is there was only one girl on the bar and there was quite a queue (10-12 people) so it took about 15/20 minutes of standing near the bar to be served a drink, no one else came to help her even though there was other staff about. Other than that we had a lovely evening :)

Visited here because we were craving a carvery on a Thursday night after a busy day! Pulled into the car park and boy was it a bump ride. Lots of pot holes so be aware. The restaurant is HUGE!! So many tables! We ordered drinks and paid for the food at the bar and found a table to sit at. It was pretty quiet, maybe 4 tables when we sat down were full. The carvery selection was amazing. Lots of different choices and a good meat selection also considering how quiet it was. Was way too full when we walked out but enjoyed every bite.

- The beef was not thoroughly cooked so I had a bad stomach "issue" when I returned home. - The cutlery looked like it had been cleaned without salt in a dishwasher or it was very worn. - Very very tired decor and seating. A throw back to the 70s. - For some reason, despite it be a very cold the day the eating areas where very cold! - The young staff were not attentive leading to people at my table going to the bar to order drinks when the staff could have checked the table now and again. Not one visit by them or the manger during our meal.

Great place with a Carvery everyday. We went late in the evening on a Monday and the food was fresh and warm. Lots of parking available and loads of seating options. The pub was quiet but had a great selection of lagers and beer. Carvery was tasty with about 10 sides available (mash, roasties, brocolli, cheesy cauliflower, spouts, carrots, suede, parsnips, yorkies, stuffing and peas) and 5 selections of meat (turkey, lamb, gammon, beef and sausages). Also a variety of sauces and gravy. Would defenitly recommend for small or large groups. Friendly staff and great service! Would definitely return.

Will be going back, food was lovely and lots of dessert, most place I been too don't do much with choose of dessert, but this place have lots, staff was very nice to can't wait to go back

50£+ for 2 carveries with a couple of drinks. In all honesty, the food is a joke. Dry meat, Yorkshire puds that are reminiscent of something from when rations were a thing, roast spuds that needed a hacksaw to cut through and veg that was generally on the lacklustre side. Gravy was ok and the broccoli wasn’t a lost cause. How they manage to get repeat custom for these prices at that quality of food is nothing sort of a miracle.

Upon coming in, on Friday 29th at 1215, we had to wait about 20 minutes to order, there was only one man on the counter who by the sounds of it was poorly, coughing away over the counter, we got the carvery, saddened by the fact you can only select two small slices of the 4 different meats on offer, even sadder was the pancake Yorkshire puddings which were awful and dry, the broccoli had burnt bits and the food generally was not all that impressive, after food a cook or kitchen person who I won't name, was behind our table talking to whom I assume was a friend, the language used was awful Infront of my partner and daughter who is 8, talking about being drunk and plans for the new year, swearing loudly like he was on the site building a house and the potential that he is going to be a father again, just wasn't the best ending to an already average experience, Over priced, suspected frozen reheated food, ill workers, inconsiderate staff, just wasn't a pleasant experience. This was a pretty mediocre carvery to be honest, the cauliflower cheese sauce tasted liked a cheap packet mix and the veg etc. Was just alright. Staff were pleasant, wasn't too busy inside which was nice as a lot of carvaries are usually packed.

Has it changed, definitely yes and not for the better. For a start I was ignored by 2 of the staff at the bar when trying to order, 1 appeared to be the manager in a purple shirt, thought maybe I had become invisible. Look after the barman with a beard, he's gold. The carvery vegetables in general were overcooked, Parsnips burnt and hard, roast potatoes tasted of charcoal, the rest was sad looking and luke warm. We would have had a dessert, but we couldn't see it redeeming a really poor main. I hope the couple of Christmas parties that the manager was fussing over had a better time than we did.

At the weekend we had a large family gathering with 22 of us for a birthday celebration. 16 had food, and the rest had drinks. I have visited the pub on many occasions before because the play area is great for kids but on this occasion I was deeply disappointed. I ordered the hunters chicken, and when my food finally came out I noticed straight away how limp the salad was and how crisp the chicken was. Upon attempting to eat it, it was very over cooked, hard, dry and really unpleasant. I couldn't even cut it with the knives they supply! I took the meal up to the bar and was told a manager would come over. This man walked over to the table, said 'who is it that complained', so I responded with me, and his first words to me were 'cash or card'. On responding it was card, he began walking away and so I asked him if I needed to come up to the bar and he nodded. When I approached the bar, away from my family he proceeded to quiz me on what was wrong, and when I asked him whether he had seen it, he replied yes and I couldn't see anything wrong with it. Explaining it was hard, dry and inedible he responded simply saying 'it's chargrilled chicken, its how its meant to be!' I was outraged, stating its not how its meant to be at all and he proceeded to argue with me! After walking away from the bar to avoid further escalation my family could see that I was upset, and my brother proceeded to speak with the manager who had walked round the corner slagging myself off to a work colleague. The most unprofessional manager I have ever been in contact with. This impacted my entire dining experience and put a real shadow on the entire afternoon. He did not even dare come back and apologise for his behaviour. We spent so much money there, and I cannot believe how rude and disappointing it was.

Had festive lunch including carvery. Delicious food and great staff. Had a really enjoyable time there. Will definitely go again.

Came up from Aylesbury to visit my friend who took us for a xmas treat. Although the meat was very good, the cauliflower cheese and carrots had blackened bits, the Parsnips were under cooked, Yorkshire was v large but cold, potatoes tasted as if they had been recooked but were still very hard and very dry, all sauce containers empty. There was a confectionery cabinet but everything looked dry and shrivelled. Staff were pleasant but atmosphere was quite dour, not very welcoming decor so won't be returning.

We enjoyed it but the room was a bit cold and the toilets were so cold. Nice meal

Haven't used the restaurant, we come here for the soft play area, which the kids love. We've have had the coffee, slushy and chips from here, which is decent but too expensive. Customer service can be slow, not enough staff, but are helpful.

Myself my wife, parents, young niece and my child attended The castle carvery today for what we hoped would be a lovely relaxing family meal. I could only describe it as pure hell on earth. We arrived at 12 queued up outside in the cold. We were told to wait at the bar for our name to be called. When ordering at the bar we were told we could not order my nieces food as the rest of us were having a carvery and the table needed to be allocated first. We waited around 15 minutes to be allocated a table with two young children. This was done however once led to the table to find out the table number once we got there ( Table 1) my dad and I then had to walk back to the bar to order my nieces food. The place was beyond packed and a squeeze to walk through. Once ordering this we then had to return back to the table where because we were waiting on food to arrive it meant myself and my dad waited at the table with the two children whilst my wife and mum queued up for the carvery. This took 30 minutes! My niece ate her food alone whilst waiting .By the time they arrived back myself and my dad were no longer hungry. We then had to queue to get our food. This took a further 20 minutes and was very noisy and stressful. By the time we returned to our table to eat our food my wife and mother had finished their food. My food and my dad’s food was warm but not really hot. I wasn’t too bothered but my dad wasn’t particularly keen as he likes his food hot. Whilst my dad and I had been in the queue of hell my mum went to the bar to order desert in anticipation of things not going to plan. After my dad and I eventually finished our food. The desert still took another 20 minutes before it arrived and when it did only my mother’s and wife’s arrived. My mother prompted staff that we were waiting on further deserts. Another 5 minutes and ice cream arrived for the kids 5 minutes from there my dads desert arrived and the waiter did not seem aware that I was waiting for my Mine around 10 Minutes later mine finally arrived and it was fantastic. What should have been a relaxing family meal turned out to be stressful and disjointed. We did not manage to eat our food together and have proper family chat because we spent the whole time waiting in ridiculously long queues and when we did order deserts to come all at the same time not even they came out together. It really was pretty much the worst experience I’ve ever had eating out. The staff were nice but it was just a complete disaster from start to finish.

Local youth club. Staff shouting across the restaurant not to go in pot wash because it smells like vomit. While people are eating dinner. We ordered some desserts and then the "waitress" could be heard taking the pXSs out of our food choices. Its literally like a hang out for high school kids , who are discussing stuff that shouldn't be discussed front of house. My cream for dessert was served in a cup. The managers seriously need to do some training with their team!!!!!

Rubbish food and it continues to get worse. Came here again as my daughter likes the play area and reluctantly I ordered a carvery only to find a FINGER/TOE NAIL In my food after only a few mouth falls I pulled it out of my mouth 🤮🤢 Needless to say I felt physically sick and I a very nearly was, disgusted and shocked is an under statement Never ever will I eat at this place again and you should seriously consider it too

We have been here a quite a lot and had our children's birthday parties here before but feel it's gone down hill quite a bit recently. Dec last yr my husband booked a meal for my birthday for 9 of us, we were seated by the door that goes through to the play area which was constantly being open and closed and it was freezing before we had even taken our coats off so we asked to be moved, lady kinda grunted and walked off to see about moving us, which they did and told us we had to finish by a certain time as table we were moved to was reserved. Sunday before last we took our youngest to soft play, altho there wasn't many people up there to begin with it was untidy. Sunday just gone my youngest attended her friends birthday party there, we arrived at 2 and went upstairs, friends had already cleared and wiped down 2 tables themselves to be able to sit down, we then moved another table over and wiped that down ourselves and there were 3 table full of plates, plastic cups ect aswell as all the side by the bin covered in dirty plates ect and even with staff walking back and forth numerous times empty handed it was 40 minutes before anyone started to clear any tables ect then gave them a little wipe, not even the full table top as I could still see food and drink on the table. When it came to the children's party food all was fine until they brought ice-cream, my daughter only likes plain ice cream which they served in a metal bowl, my daughter asked what was in her bowl as she was about to eat and it had what appeared to be 2 large dried on lumps of cookie dough or something similar. I understand it may not all come off in the dishwasher but if you place the bowls out and go to add a scoop of icecream why would you use that bowl seeing that it's dirty! Our friends who's daughters birthday party it was also had issues with other things... being over charged £20, lady butchering the birthday cake when cutting it up are just a couple. Our daughter had asked for her party to be arranged for here end of this month but we won't be booking any parties here again.

Love the food, needed a bit of care around the serving area. I visit this carvery at least weekly and this was the first time I've seen the serving area anything but spotless. Maybe a blip on the day.

Had a lunchtime meeting with 3 friends, arriving at 12. On entry bar staff acknowledged me and took me through to the table they were seated at. Very friendly and helpful lady. We sat chatting for a while. Table we chose was perfect for space around us (wheelchair) and easy to get around. Menus provided which offer enormous amount of choices. Light bites. Full main menu and sharing platters. Given plenty of time to choose as order and payment taken at the bar. Food arrived in good time as restaurant was not busy. Piping hot and all of us had a delicious meal. Prices are very reasonable and portions were a good size. This restaurant is always busy and has not been redecorated in years. A lick of paint and new carpet would lift the decor 100%.

There was a chap in front of me at the carvery, he got two large slices of meat, when it came to me, a lady, I only got half as much meat yet we paid the same for our meals!

Very tasty carvery with freshly prepared meat and vegetables. Have been before this visit and will certainly go there again.

Been twice, once was amazing and I could of lived there, 2nd was okay and wouldn't rush back, maybe different chef or bad day.

Poor waited 50 mins to get table queue 15 for food to find only gammon turkey left no parsnips.carrots i spoonful cauliflower cheese peas hard some black potatoes hard .some were re stocked 10mins after left queue.when spoke to under manager was told they had problems suppliers re potato's! Said we should have been told at bar shortage meat. She would speak manager next day and ring me heard nothing not surprised will not hurry to go back paid 13.95 each for very poor meal

Brought my 3 grandchildren for lunch today (sept 23) i had carvery which they said had not been out long everything was luke warm had to take beef back as was pure fat 2 kids had cheeseburgers which were very hard around the edges the pizza was good ....very disappointing

Cheap and cheerful it's good for a mid week cheap meal with friendly staff

Came in and had to wait to be seated which was a while as was only one lady doing it. Went up to get carvery, gravy was like water on my plate and didn’t even taste of anything— no broccoli? My favourite part of a roast dinner is the Yorkshire’s and unfortunately they was the worst part. The young waiter girls were just messing about and chatting to one another was highly unprofessional.

1st time visit with friends and absolutely amazing experience carvery was excellent, food outstanding, service excellent. I highly recommend a visit and definitely get a carvery worth it with nice freshly cooked food , desserts are really nice I recommend the Eton mess and double chocolate brownie with ice cream

Oh my. What on earth.... the food was horrid . Bland, no taste and dry. Potatos came out fresh next to me, and it was rank. It looked crispy but it was so dry. If I threw it at someone's head they would have killed them . I feel sorry for the money I wasted. I'm not sure what everyone else is giving 4 stars for lol. The Yorkshire pudding was so horrible!!!
