I bring my Mother here Tuesday every week the food is of a good standard staff are friendly however two weeks ago the Sky services went down, now two weeks later still no service. Imagine the revenue lost from th cricket and now the Tennis...

Food was good but kind of weird that the menu says it offers hot drinks but when I asked for a hot chocolate they don’t do them?

Had the mixed grill and honestly one of the best meals I've had in years. Excellent value for money. Staff were great too.

Really great service and excellent food. The staff were incredibly helpful. Only issue was the bar staff who weren't checking the till and orders via the app. We had to walk over and get our drinks as the ticket just sat there for 15 minutes.

We came do this place for my 40 th food was lovely very well presented we had a table off 14 and was well worth the visit

Still good food with great service. Best Ribeye we have had for ages on a saturday pm. The new hunters gammon was yummy. Good for the gluten-free menu.

Smelly and damp! Ceiling looks like it’ll fall down any minute. Could stand the thought of eating anything prepared in that place! Red flag waved when at 12pm on a Sunday there was NO ONE sat down! No one to greet you when you walked in. Looks as dodgy on the outside too!

This place is filthy from the tables to the windows to the bathrooms to the glasses. Disgusting. The food is cheap and nasty. Meat very fatty. Oil dripping off the chicken and the baked beans have been reheated for so long that they were black. Everything had to be ordered on an app with poor WiFi. We thought it would be a delightful change to eat out here for my sons birthday dinner. We were so wrong! He had to go to Sainsbury's to use the toilet because he couldn't bring himself to use the toilet here. We will NEVER come back here.

THIS IS THE BEST RESTAURANT AND VENUE IN THE AREA - The iconic building makes it a great venue. Very impressed everything was really good The beef meal I had was the best I have ever tasted , it was most excellent value for money , one of the most inexpensive places I have ever visited , all the staff worked hard and went out their way to please the customers

Visited for a late lunch with our Granddaughters. Gary greeted us with a warm and lovely smile, took our order for both food & drink & genuinely made us feel welcome. Cost wise you can't go wrong & they accept the blue light card for discount on food as well. Food arrived promptly, was hot, tasty & of good amount, nothing left on the plate of either girls which is always a good sign. Puddings ordered & no difference in service or quality, again being devoured. A great experience all round

Went in on Sunday with my dad uncle and sister for a meal it was amazing. Gary, Piper and Dani was going above and beyond

Had a large party of 20 booked here for a birthday and it was excellent! Staff were friendly and welcoming, Gary greeted us on arrival and everything was ready for us. The staff were super accommodating with any changes and alterations we asked for. Food came out in good time without issues despite the numbers. Would definitely visit again.

Always such a friendly welcome at The Castle! The food is awesome, and caters for different groups, whether it’s families, couples or sports fans. The manager, Beth is great. She’s often helping in all areas of this large pub, whether it’s serving food, pulling pints or helping out in the kitchen. She has a team of young enthusiastic staff, who seem to work well together. Hospitality is hard work but Beth and her team are top notch!

Recently visited Castle with my partner, we were having a lovey time enjoying a mixed grill and stake and ale pie until we over heard a staff member (older male FOH, cloud tattoos) making inappropriate remarks which lead us to leave early. This is extremely distressing, I am disappointed with Greene King on this occasion, hopefully this will be sorted soon!

We visit The Castle Pub on a regular basis as it’s a fantastic place to meet up with close friends while enjoying a tasty meal with superb service. The ambiance is always warm and welcoming, making it the perfect spot for a relaxed gathering. The food is consistently delicious, and the menu offers a great variety of options to suit everyone's tastes. While the service can sometimes be a bit slow, the staff are always attentive and make sure to keep us updated throughout. Their apologies and updates ensure that any delays are never an issue. We've been served several times by a waiter named Gary, who is exceptionally kind and welcoming. He consistently pledges to provide superb service, and he always delivers. His friendly demeanor and attention to detail make our visits even more enjoyable. We're already looking forward to coming back again and again! Highly recommend The Castle Pub for anyone seeking a great meal and a great time with friends.

The castle is looking a little bit shabby nowadays. Beer is nice the foods a little bit rough. Some of the seats are taped up. The tables look a bit old. I suppose it's a bit out of date now.

Food was just ok , generally felt the place was run down. Sorry to say, we went to one place, it was so busy cars were queuing to get in, we thought we wouldn't get in anywhere, as it was 6pm.and great weather, so we drove to the castle, it was empty

We had lunch here today. I can recommend the steak flat bread, slow and low and the tandoori burger we really enjoyed it. Staff welcoming and friendly as always Daniella, Piper and Gary. Food was served quickly and hot. We had a great time relaxed and had a couple of games of pool. Thanks castle team ❤️

Had a mix grill here yesterday and garlic bread with my friend. My freinds meal arrived in 15 mins which was fine my mix grill and garlic bread took over 45 mins and when arrived the meat on the mix grill was burnt to a crisp no wonder it took so long to arrive. Shame because the staff behind the bar were helpful the chef is cleary incapable really let's done a otherwise good pub I won't be returning again or at least not for a while. Eating out isn't cheap anymore and you expect at least edible food

Danielle is a real asset to your team. She is always friendly and welcoming, but last Friday she went above and beyond. I'd gone over the handlebars of my bike on the way to the Black Castle, in monsoon conditions. Danielle couldn't do enough to help me. She brought me an ice pack and pain killers. She also let us order from our table, because I couldn't really move. She allowed me to leave my bike in the Black Castle shed, moving the heavy garden furniture to get the door open. Finally, she gave me dog bone biscuits for my dogs, who usually accompany me. She's such a kind and thoughtful person, who provided the ultimate in customer service. I'll be back soon, just to see Danielle!

I know this place as Black Castle and have been visiting for over 20 years. It could do with some level of refit and they always seem to be short staffed. Beautiful building filled with local history. UPDATE. Another visit last night. The service was friendly and not much else has changed. The food took around 20 minutes to arrive after ordering. One meal was gluten free so This may have been taken into account. The wait was definitely a good sign as the food came out smoking hot! The mixed grill is highly recommended and my go to meal. The interior could definitely benefit from a deep clean and a coat of paint as there are visible cobwebs. That said I enjoyed the food and would return. It's ideal for a pre cinema date. ☺️

It's not the greatest food but value for the money it is

On my tour of the Bristol and wales, I stumbled upon this gem! The outside is something I haven’t seen in pubs in year and immediately drew me in, the whole venue was clean and tidy. The staff were fantastic as well - only stopped for a quick bite and drink. Great drink selection as well as hot tasty food. I had the mixed grill and it was cooked perfectly, came out much quicker than expected. When touring this side of the country again I’ll definitely be back! Thank you Castle Team!

Came down to watch the Liverpool game. And what an experience I had, very quiet and calm in the restaurant side, and very energetic and lively bar side where they show every type of sport! Staff are as friendly as ever, food was excellent, lady who served me was lovely, big smile on her face, very charismatic, and full of energy. Would come back defo!

A mock 4 sided Castle pub.. A simple experience with the 4 sides each offering different features. The primary one with football flags and large television screens showing football. Another side catered for children. Food was good.

They don’t have any milk pods to make hot chocolate and the milk frother was down so couldn’t mix it any together unfortunately. Only 2 people the bar so service was a little slow but to be fair the food was amazing. We had 2 x mixed grills and 2 x chick n mix and was really good. Wasn't too busy either for lunch time which was a bonus. Fairly priced at about £55 for four of us

Food came out just warm. But not all meals arrived at the same time. It just feels not quite clean enough, music was on too loud so conversation was difficult. Not the best place to eat. Looks like a good place to have a beer and watch the football.

Food was standard Greene King fayre. No butter to go with a jacket potato so it was dry but no other issues. Definitely a unique site for a pub/restaurant.

I recently had the most wonderful Sunday roast here, and I just have to share how impressed I was with the entire experience. The service was top-notch, and Mily, our server, was especially lovely—friendly, attentive, and genuinely caring. As for the roast, it was absolutely delicious! The food was wonderful. It was the ideal comfort meal, made even better by the fantastic service. Can't wait to go back for more!

Booked here for lunch, we were shown to a table next to a very noisy crowd of people, had drinks then went to order food very long cue to be served as only 2 members of Staff serving . Food arrived quickly but not what my partner ordered, she didn't want to make a fuss so ate it anyway . We're an older couple so would of thought we would of been seated in better area not by young noisy family's. I used the toilets which were disgusting and if I would of used these before my meal I would of walked out . All in all very dated decorations mould on ceilings and walls in need of total revamp.

Went in for the first time tonight, where I sat I had 2 tvs on behind me and the one on the side of me that I could’ve watched was turned off. The fries were overcooked and too crunchy. The garlic bread with cheese was both overcooked and undercooked. The grilled halloumi was also burned on one side.

Absolute dive. Last time I was there was 15yrs ago ish and nothing has changed same scabby furniture. Food presentation was awful. Never again.

The service was shocking. There was a queue at the bar but regulars must be able to jump the queue because that’s what happened with us. The young bar staff had to keep getting you to repeat what we were ordering simply because she wasn’t listening to us when we said it the first time. Waited to be served at the bar for about 20 mins. Food then took another half hour to come out. And it took the drinks half hour to come out when ordering on the app. Not a very good experience. The friend of the bar, an old man that sits up at the bar starts on anyone waiting to be served. Lovely atmosphere….. not. Not a very welcoming pub at all. Will not be coming back, the staff walk round with the most miserable faces too, we asked one of the staff that brought out food out of there was any mayonnaise, it was made out as though it was such a big ask. Think the bar needs to sort the staff and the whole venue out

We hadvavgreatvtime here, the Castle could be a really nice restaurant and pub, if.... It needs a loooot of update and treating mould and cracks on walls and ceiling. The toilets also could do with a very deep clean and radiator changed in toilets as they are so rusty, really not pleasant to go in to the bathrooms. We waited quite a long time for the food to arrive, quite a few things out of stock. Meats were very nicely cooked but veggies seemed precooked and just heated to the point that for example green beans weren't edible. Raises some questions about proper food hygiene and handling tough. Veggie flat bread was soggy and had very spicey pineapple on which we weren't very keen on but that's just our taste. Others could have better opinion. Loved the castle on the other hand, it is a very nice place apart from the outdated wallpapers, paint on walls.... Not sure if i would visit again...:-/

Utterly disgraceful Christmas dinner! Raw Parsnip, under cooked Pigs in Blankets, over cooked Sprouts and carrots, soggy Yorkshire Pudding and very little gravy.I had to ask for more, lots more! £50 per head for 9 people and all of our table left 70% of the dinner. After checking other tables around me, there were a lot the same. I just wish I took a picture of the “Meal”. Service was the best thing of the day. Shame on you for ruining our Christmas dinner! Will never eat Christmas dinner there there again! Shame, the food usually is not that bad. Avoid Christmas Dinner here at all costs!

Cheap but very average pub. Food was ok serving size wise but didn’t taste very good - peas and steaks were over cooked, everything in our meal needed a lot of extra seasoning (from the chips to the meat). The salad leaves were going brown at the edges and were decidedly limp/going off - we returned the salad which the kitchen re did, but got the same thing. Tables were dirty (sticky, wet and oily) and the place is so large that it’s a bit hard to get staff attention without going back to the counter every time . There was supposedly a family area for those dining with kids vs an adults area, but there were noisy kids running around the tables during our meal which defeated the purpose of the separated areas. Overall feels very tired/outdated, needed more staff and a good clean.

Footy’s on, pint in hand and nice and cosy. What more could you want? Not bad priced too!

The Castle was very disappointing to visit. When I last visited, we had to wait for over an hour to only just get our starter with our mains expected to take another 45 mins to come. We ended up having to leave before our food arrived. Thankfully the staff were willing to provide us a refund. Times where I did get my food, it was pretty average. Also, the toilet lights in the mens did not work and I had to use my phone flashlight...

Just had our Christmas dinner at The Castle for the first time. Table for 4. Had to write a review as it was absolutely lovely! From the minute we arrived to leaving. We were greeted on arrival, served at the bar very quick and seated immediately despite being 30 minutes early. All the staff and table service excellent and the food was to our liking, plentiful, tasty and hot. They we're all very attentive and was excellent value by today's standards. It was also very chilled, calm, no rushing or anyone rowdy. Thank you all so much we enjoyed our Christmas Dinner and has helped make the day. I've only not rated 5 star as I never do, as there is always room for improvement wherever u may go so please take no notice and Merry Christmas

Was going to take a photo of a steak pie, but ate it before I could take a photo - very tasty, wouldn’t recommend the pulled chicken thigh mainly because the presentation was more like a chicken thigh massacre. Would suggest a sauce based chicken thigh to make it more succulent and appetising to the eye. Staff, couldn’t fault - smiley and polite

Went for lunch with a friend today and my friend is quite picky so I was quite apprehensive to try somewhere new, our server was being shown the ropes by another member of staff both were chatty and smileyand coped well with my friend inevitably changing his order, food was delivered in 15 minutes which I have no problem with at all and was absolutely delicious the steak was rare (although to be really really picky I think the sizzler plate doesn't let the meat rest) I really enjoyed my visit and will definitely be returning. Well done.

An amazing pub just to look at and be in. Would definitely recommend dining in a castle. The staff are amazing, happy, helpful and kind. Wasn't expecting many vegan options but had 3 courses! The gluten free options were amazing aswel and the staff were so good to help and show us how to use the app to find allergen information. Made dinner feel a lot safer. Food came out fast and hot and tasted amazing. Every course was perfectly timed.

Extremely friendly staff, and a brilliant atmosphere. Service was a little slow at the bar but it was late on a Sunday evening and the staff were doing their best to make everything run smoothly so I can hardly fault it.
