Extremely attentive service from Ben, didn’t have an empty glass at any point, and was super quick and friendly every-time we had a request. Food was great too!! Compliments to the chef

visited on sunday evening and what a lovely experience we had we’ve not visited in a while we we’re served by Nick and Rachel they where very helpful and friendly The food was delicious we couldn’t fault it hardly any wait for the food was hot and free it’s by far the best meal we have eaten in here and we can’t wait to return ☺️

We went to celebrate my dads 70th birthdays when we arrive the restaurant was very quite but we didn’t see a member of staff for about 20 minuets. We had to order at the bar as the app is not able to modify for intolerance but this is fairly normal. When our food came they brought a side of Mac and Cheese that we had not ordered. We told the staff this but they left it with us anyway. About 5 minutes later they came back and asked for the Mac and chess so they could serve it to another table, one of our group had started eating it. They said we would have to pay for it which I refused as this was 100% their mistake which they accepted and went away but the interaction left me a little shaken up and wondering if they are in the habit of serving food that has sat on someone else’s table for 5 minuets. At 7 exactly they came and asked us to leave as the table was only reserved from 5-7pm. We were finished our meal and getting ready to go anyway it is just something to be aware of that you have a 2 hr limit so if you like to take your time it could be an issue (for full disclosure we were 15 minutes late arriving and still finished 3 courses before the 2 hrs were up so was not an issue). Overall the food was pretty good. The staff more mostly pleasant and efficient and the general feel was nice as there was plenty of room between tables - would have been better if they were not paying the audio of the 6 nations the whole time but it was just background noise so not a massive issue.

The staff are fantastic, we sometimes come as a family of four or up to 18 depending on what family can make it, the food is lovely quick and the kids have space to play on the floor (colouring, games or on pads!) it's spacious and I love how it feels family wise

It’s a great idea for a venue. The food is ok but it’s dirty- old chips on the floor, the furniture is ripped, the tables were sticky. Very run down. the staff are slow but friendly. It 1990’s vibes when you could smoke in pubs.

I bring my Mother here Tuesday every week the food is of a good standard staff are friendly however two weeks ago the Sky services went down, now two weeks later still no service. Imagine the revenue lost from th cricket and now the Tennis... A return visit today Mom and Suze had 8oz Rump Steak asked for well done one was medium rare they replaced it with a big apology and it was well done. Great service brilliant staff as usual a credit to the company...🤩🤩🤩

I dined here with 3 other people, who enjoyed their meals and said it was good value for money. We weren't here at a busy time so service was quick and staff were great. But.... I am gluten and dairy intolerant, and also don't eat meat. I dine out often and don't usually have an issue with options to cater for these needs. However, here there was very limited options I could have. I was reduced to having a plain jacket potato and baked beans in bbq sauce (which literally was normal beans with bbq sauce squirted in them), which I didn't eat as they tasted odd and were cold. I understand some places place more focus on catering for intolerances, which is fine. I just won't be returning here unfortunately.

Had an amazing night at black castle was served by a member of staff called keisha who was lovely and kind to us even when our family friend was being a little too much, very polite and was a great person to be served by, the food was also amazing and as someone that is really iffy about steak I actually loved it and am very impressed thank you for the great night for New Year’s Eve

Food was oily and everything tasted like samosas, which we didn't order. Chips were old and cold. No cutlery to be seen, no waitress to ask either. I had to go around the restaurant looking for a fork. Tables were filthy. Plates got removed an hour after we had eaten. Will definitely not go back there! Update 31st December- The Castle Management Team has been in touch to apologise and to try and rectify our experience, which I really appreciate. Hopefully, it was just a once off bad night.

Place has gone down hill since management change. I complained about mannerisms of moody rude staff as many visitors have complained also. I only asked for a drink at the bar with a rude response for no apparent reason, so asked to see management. I was asked to leave and not return and staff weren’t remanded for behaviour. Funny how when they get a complaint the manager asks to email and speak in private. Staff need more monitoring or training as to representing a branded company. Not a place I recommend to go for food or drink

Still good food with great service. Best Ribeye we have had for ages on a saturday pm. The new hunters gammon was yummy. Good for the gluten-free menu.

Went for novelty aspect for only a pint. Good: Friendly staff. Load of tv’s. Pool tables/darts. Ok pint £. Bad: like others mention seems understaffed , no one at the bar for a good 2 mins also bit cold in the pub.

Really great service and excellent food. The staff were incredibly helpful. Only issue was the bar staff who weren't checking the till and orders via the app. We had to walk over and get our drinks as the ticket just sat there for 15 minutes.

Really enjoyed my visit to the castle with a few friends after work, the venue was amazing and the staff were accommodating, I left 3 stars on the food as I’m yet to dine with you however from seeing some of the plating for other guests I am impressed. Will be coming again.

Smelly and damp! Ceiling looks like it’ll fall down any minute. Could stand the thought of eating anything prepared in that place! Red flag waved when at 12pm on a Sunday there was NO ONE sat down! No one to greet you when you walked in. Looks as dodgy on the outside too!

This place is filthy from the tables to the windows to the bathrooms to the glasses. Disgusting. The food is cheap and nasty. Meat very fatty. Oil dripping off the chicken and the baked beans have been reheated for so long that they were black. Everything had to be ordered on an app with poor WiFi. We thought it would be a delightful change to eat out here for my sons birthday dinner. We were so wrong! He had to go to Sainsbury's to use the toilet because he couldn't bring himself to use the toilet here. We will NEVER come back here.

THIS IS THE BEST RESTAURANT AND VENUE IN THE AREA - The iconic building makes it a great venue. Very impressed everything was really good The beef meal I had was the best I have ever tasted , it was most excellent value for money , one of the most inexpensive places I have ever visited , all the staff worked hard and went out their way to please the customers

Visited for a late lunch with our Granddaughters. Gary greeted us with a warm and lovely smile, took our order for both food & drink & genuinely made us feel welcome. Cost wise you can't go wrong & they accept the blue light card for discount on food as well. Food arrived promptly, was hot, tasty & of good amount, nothing left on the plate of either girls which is always a good sign. Puddings ordered & no difference in service or quality, again being devoured. A great experience all round

Had a large party of 20 booked here for a birthday and it was excellent! Staff were friendly and welcoming, Gary greeted us on arrival and everything was ready for us. The staff were super accommodating with any changes and alterations we asked for. Food came out in good time without issues despite the numbers. Would definitely visit again.

Always such a friendly welcome at The Castle! The food is awesome, and caters for different groups, whether it’s families, couples or sports fans. The manager, Beth is great. She’s often helping in all areas of this large pub, whether it’s serving food, pulling pints or helping out in the kitchen. She has a team of young enthusiastic staff, who seem to work well together. Hospitality is hard work but Beth and her team are top notch!

Buy one get one free burgers on a Thursday! Wow just amazing. Great place to eat with friendly staff always happy to help.

What a place!! Not only is it a castle but it also serves great food in a great time- brilliant pub!

Recently visited Castle with my partner, we were having a lovey time enjoying a mixed grill and stake and ale pie until we over heard a staff member (older male FOH, cloud tattoos) making inappropriate remarks which lead us to leave early. This is extremely distressing, I am disappointed with Greene King on this occasion, hopefully this will be sorted soon!

While the service can sometimes be a bit slow, the staff are always attentive and make sure to keep us updated throughout. Their apologies and updates ensure that any delays are never an issue. We've been served several times by a waiter named Gary, who is exceptionally kind and welcoming. He consistently pledges to provide superb service, and he always delivers. His friendly demeanor and attention to detail make our visits even more enjoyable. We're already looking forward to coming back again and again! The castle is looking a little bit shabby nowadays. Beer is nice the foods a little bit rough. Some of the seats are taped up. The tables look a bit old. I suppose it's a bit out of date now.

Food was just ok , generally felt the place was run down. Sorry to say, we went to one place, it was so busy cars were queuing to get in, we thought we wouldn't get in anywhere, as it was 6pm.and great weather, so we drove to the castle, it was empty

We had lunch here today. I can recommend the steak flat bread, slow and low and the tandoori burger we really enjoyed it. Staff welcoming and friendly as always Daniella, Piper and Gary. Food was served quickly and hot. We had a great time relaxed and had a couple of games of pool. Thanks castle team ❤️

Had a mix grill here yesterday and garlic bread with my friend. My freinds meal arrived in 15 mins which was fine my mix grill and garlic bread took over 45 mins and when arrived the meat on the mix grill was burnt to a crisp no wonder it took so long to arrive. Shame because the staff behind the bar were helpful the chef is cleary incapable really let's done a otherwise good pub I won't be returning again or at least not for a while. Eating out isn't cheap anymore and you expect at least edible food

Danielle is a real asset to your team. She is always friendly and welcoming, but last Friday she went above and beyond. I'd gone over the handlebars of my bike on the way to the Black Castle, in monsoon conditions. Danielle couldn't do enough to help me. She brought me an ice pack and pain killers. She also let us order from our table, because I couldn't really move. She allowed me to leave my bike in the Black Castle shed, moving the heavy garden furniture to get the door open. Finally, she gave me dog bone biscuits for my dogs, who usually accompany me. She's such a kind and thoughtful person, who provided the ultimate in customer service. I'll be back soon, just to see Danielle!

I know this place as Black Castle and have been visiting for over 20 years. It could do with some level of refit and they always seem to be short staffed. Beautiful building filled with local history. UPDATE. Another visit last night. The service was friendly and not much else has changed. The food took around 20 minutes to arrive after ordering. One meal was gluten free so This may have been taken into account. The wait was definitely a good sign as the food came out smoking hot! The mixed grill is highly recommended and my go to meal. The interior could definitely benefit from a deep clean and a coat of paint as there are visible cobwebs. That said I enjoyed the food and would return. It's ideal for a pre cinema date. ☺️

It's not the greatest food but value for the money it is

On my tour of the Bristol and wales, I stumbled upon this gem! The outside is something I haven’t seen in pubs in year and immediately drew me in, the whole venue was clean and tidy. The staff were fantastic as well - only stopped for a quick bite and drink. Great drink selection as well as hot tasty food. I had the mixed grill and it was cooked perfectly, came out much quicker than expected. When touring this side of the country again I’ll definitely be back! Thank you Castle Team!

Came down to watch the Liverpool game. And what an experience I had, very quiet and calm in the restaurant side, and very energetic and lively bar side where they show every type of sport! Staff are as friendly as ever, food was excellent, lady who served me was lovely, big smile on her face, very charismatic, and full of energy. Would come back defo!

A mock 4 sided Castle pub.. A simple experience with the 4 sides each offering different features. The primary one with football flags and large television screens showing football. Another side catered for children. Food was good.

They don’t have any milk pods to make hot chocolate and the milk frother was down so couldn’t mix it any together unfortunately. Only 2 people the bar so service was a little slow but to be fair the food was amazing. We had 2 x mixed grills and 2 x chick n mix and was really good. Wasn't too busy either for lunch time which was a bonus. Fairly priced at about £55 for four of us

Food came out just warm. But not all meals arrived at the same time. It just feels not quite clean enough, music was on too loud so conversation was difficult. Not the best place to eat. Looks like a good place to have a beer and watch the football.

Food was standard Greene King fayre. No butter to go with a jacket potato so it was dry but no other issues. Definitely a unique site for a pub/restaurant.
