Delicious Italian food! I had the pollo picante for main and my friend had the pollopasta (both delicious) and we shared a garlic bread. For dessert I had the tiramisu and she had the brownie. The brownie looked really impressive! Wine was delicious and service was impeccable. Thank you!

We dined here yesterday lunchtime for the first time, as someone recommended Castellum to us. The food was excellent, with hearty portions of superb quality. The service was attentive and polite. I recommend trying the Beef meatball starter and the excellent main of Spaghetti Bolognese. We will visit again soon, thanks!

This is a lovely little restaurant, and because of that you must book in advance. The food is delightful, authentic Italian. The service is very good, and prices are reasonable. Try it yourself

This is our favourite place to eat. The pizza is the best bar none, we're torn between telling everyone how great it is and keeping it a little secret. Would absolutely recommend, one of the best restaurants around. I meant to take a photo of the entire pizza, but it smelt too good and I was already 3/4 through it before I thought about it.

Wonderful Sunday lunch with the family. Excellent authentic Italian food. Everything was so tasty. The pizzas were perfect 😋. Love the Aglianico wine. Excellent attentive service and a warm atmosphere. Can't wait to go back.

This is our favourite restaurant in Whitstable. We come here regularly. Very cosy atmosphere, fantastic warm and friendly service and fabulous food. The pizzas are some of the best I have tasted outside of Italy, and they very kindly make a pre-ordered salad for my wife (they should put it on the menu!) I would thoroughly recommend.

Bill for 3 of us starters, mains and drinks was £99, food was delicious and the staff were friendly and helpful. Will definitely visit again. Sat in the garden, which in the hot weather of late was most pleasant!

A great gem in Whitstable! Excellent food, especially the Frutti di Mare pasta. Super friendly service. Only very small, so it's better to reserve.

Friday is not good. Too busy. We waited for too long for our main while they served a table for 10, we were only a couple. Very loud.

My family and I have been regulars of Castellum since they opened, singing their praises to everyone we know. The waitress took our order, including my daughters request for an Ortolana pizza without cheese as she doesn’t like it. The waitress said ‘so no mozzarella then’, only for us to remind her there was Parmesan on an Ortolana as well. When our food eventually arrived, a different waitress brought her a Diavola with cheese. Obviously not what a vegetarian person who doesn’t like cheese would order. After telling her it was the wrong pizza, the owner came over to tell us that we had ordered a Diavola with cheese, that the waitress had checked the order, and that she should eat it. Alternatively, we would have to wait for everyone else in the restaurant to receive their orders before my daughter would receive her original order. All four of us were stunned, particularly as we were being blamed for the waitress’s mistake - and the rudeness of the owner was absolutely shocking. We were told that if we weren’t happy with the Diavola, we should just leave. Lovely to be treated so well, particularly as a loyal long-term customer. A real shame, but there are plenty of great food options in Whitstable where you won’t be treated so rudely.

They were very nice in there - my girlfriend Rosa Very yummy I had a marinara pizza which was so good becasuse i dont like cheese. Well im vegan Also my girlfriend had bolognaise and she sstill talks about it DAYS after so you Know its good

Service was fine however the food wasn’t. The price really doesn’t reflect the food here… it’s very bland and expensive. There are many better options locally. £9 for a Moretti? Have a day off.

3rd December 2022 I had 1 starter and 3 mains. - Starter Melanzane alla Parmigiana - £8.95 This was amazing. Very delicious. Only negative is the portion is tiny, so you don't get to enjoy much of it. Order 2 perhaps? It's that good. Perhaps expensive for what you get though portion wise. 5/5 Strong start. - Main 1 Penne Al Pomodoro - £10.95 Was OK. Not much sauce, pasta was cooked with the tiniest bit of bite which was nice. I hate al dente, but this wasn't that. So pasta was cooked well, but not much sauce, and it wasn't that flavoursome. OK portion size. 3/5 Dissapointed somewhat. - Main 2 Pollo Funghi - £15.95 This was amazing. Chicken was tender. Tomatoes tasted incredible as did the mushrooms. Sauce is thin but tasty. Roasted potatoes are very good. Not many of them though. Spinach sadly was undercooked and could do with a little more garlic (my personal taste preference). Tasted like quality ingredients were used. Despite the spinach, this dish is a 5/5. They just have to make sure the spinach is properly cooked. I was in heaven eating this. - Main 3 Rigatoni Forno - £12.95 This was utterly disappointing. The dish is not rich as described in the menu, and lacks flavour. Not much meat. Pasta on top was dry. Horrible. Cheese was sticky, sticking to my fork, and just had a weird texture that was chewy. This was my last dish so my dining experience sadly ended with a bad dish. The dish needs significant improvement. 1/5 Very very dissapointing end to my meal. Staff were friendly. Interior is decent. It is however a pretty small restaurant. Portion sizes are small, which is why I had to order 'so much'. At great cost. Bill came to £51.05 There's ingredients for sale but only the pasta had price marks on them. Or... At least I'm assuming they were for sale. If so, it might be a good idea to have a legible menu with prices somewhere on the wall or something as I couldn't make out the price on the stickers as its far up on shelves. I didn't take photos of the starter and first main as I was too hungry. Will go back to try other dishes at some point. This town needs good restaurants, and it's still missing a good Mexican restaurant. But seems we finally have a decent Italian with hit or miss dishes as it stands.

We had a great experience in this restaurant. Was our first time in Whitstable and we fancied Italian and we truly made a great choice. The starters were excellent. For the main we had a bit of issue as my husband wanted to remove salame from the calzone but that was not possible which was a bit disappointing, but on the end we both had a great dish which we enjoyed very much. The prices were a bit higher but still was worth it.

Service is top class; friendly, helpful, respectful and appreciative-- on our first visit it felt like we've been going there for years. Full marks in every category without a doubt. Seafood was fresh, wine was cold & top class authentic italian pizza.

Really nice. Bit pricey, but that's Whitstable for you. We are local, and it's our first visit (tend to avoid these "made for Londoners" places, of which there are a few in town). But bit the bullet. Bill was more than we'd paid at a little family run Italian in Soho few weeks back. Still, food and service was great.

Whenever I have pizza, it better be worth the extra calories. This restaurant is definitely worth your calorie surplus! Pizzas are served with excellent quality ingredients and are made with doughy texture (which Neapolitan/sourdough pizzas are known for). This little restaurant is intimate, and conveniently located on the Whitstable High Street. I usually have the “Capricciosa” pizza, and swop out the salami for basil. ♥️

Me and my partner went for a meal here on a Saturday evening, everything was great. The service was amazing however the food portions let it down for us. We had the meat board for starters that was lovely. For our main we both had a pizza. I asked for extra prawns on my pizza that added on £3.50 extra that was fine however when the pizza came out it had three prawns on it!! Not even enough for one prawn per slice. So to anyone visiting we wouldn’t recommend adding the extra fish portion to your pizza! 😂

One of those rare Italian places where both quality and ambience is top notch. Staff are lovely and accommodating ! A quaint place with the most delicious vegetarian options as well. We had the ortolano pizza and risotto which were mouth watering. Had a great time and would definitely get back the next time we’re here. Can’t wait and thank you for your hospitality !

Excellent staff, very friendly and efficient. Chef very pleasant and obliging. A small but lovely restaurant. The food was excellent. I don't often eat pizza as I usually find it stoggy and never get enough topping (my favourites capers and anchovies were in abundance). Congrats to everyone and look forward to returning to try the pasta next time.

Top quality authentic Italian sourdough pizza. I always enjoy getting delicious takeaway pizza from Castellum. Always top of my list. Recent eat-in visit was a real highlight, with the owner Kasia offering us a complimentary glass of limoncello after our lovely fresh pizza and a glass of pleasant well-chosen house white and red (Aglianico Sannio red from Campania, Ombra sangiovese white from Tuscany).

Very much enjoyed dining here recently. Warm welcome and shown through to the pleasant courtyard garden. Lots of choice on the menu, and the waitress pointed out a special wine offer. Attentive service, delicious food, what more could you want? Place clearly very popular.

What a great first experience at this lovely restaurant! Very accommodating by seating us in the courtyard garden so we could bring our dog. The food was delicious, very reasonably priced and great value for money! We will definitely be retuning soon!

I've had pizza in Sorrento, Tuscany region, Florence and Venice. This up there with some of the best. The base was perfect and the toppings rich in flavour. To top it all was the made-to-order freshness. Fantastic.

Great authentic Italian food. I felt like I was in Napoli. The cold Italian meat starter was tasty. Nice cold Pinot Grigio Rose. Tortellini with spinach was really good. Lovely staff who look after you. Bellisimo.

Sadly this was a really disappointing pizza experience for me. We’d booked weeks in advance having researched carefully which pizza restaurants offered gluten free. Their menu sounded great. When we turned up last night, the first thing the host said was that they had no gluten free flour, hadn’t been able to get it for more than 3 months and as a result the only option on the menu for me would be risotto. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. I had a really bland mozzarella smothered chicken dish instead and watched with envy as my three dinner companions ate their lovely looking wheat pizzas. Lesson learned, next time call ahead to double check. Also less than impressed that we were hurried out with the host telling us our table was booked again after only 90 minutes. There wouldn’t have been enough time to eat in if we’d had 3 courses. All in all, sadly not the best experience.

Friendly welcome and good food well presented. Pizzas are properly made and cooked in a very hot oven for an authentic crispy base. The Seafood pizza has squid, clams and razor fish as well as the usual mussels and prawns, highly commended. Food is freshly cooked so allow plenty of time to enjoy three courses.

A small place with a welcoming atmosphere, friendly and professional staff, and excellent pizza with the dough made in the traditional Neapolitan style, ours with salami was very tasty. They have a very good selection of starters, pasta and mains in addition to pizza, as well as some specials. Small but good selection of wines, and other drinks and aperitifs available. It was very busy on a Tuesday evening, so booking is recommended, but staff were trying to accommodate walk ins (including us!) where possible.

Had a great pizza today! We were in luck as not booked a table, with the restaurant much busier than Google said it was. Good and quick service, friendly staff. Good range of red and white pizzas as well as pastas and other dishes. Would return, warmly recommended.

Very relaxed and friendly, good food.

We had a very nice family meal, and the venue tried very hard to accommodate requests. The pizzas are very large so would suggest that a kid size 7 inch would be helpful. They do a 7 inch garlic bread. It's a lovely place to take kids so a smaller version of certain menu items would make a great addition.

Ordered scialatelli giardiniera as a takeaway. Unfortunately ithe dominant flavour was salt and the dish was inedible. I rook it back and was given a refund without undue fuss. Service was friendly. The espresso I had while waiting was small but perfectly formed. Delicious.

Second visit to Castellum - again, really amazing pizza and pasta. Wonderfully fresh ingredients, and beautifully presented: my pizza was like a work of art (see below)! Strongly recommend visiting.

What a gem of a find in Whitstable! So glad we stumbled across this restaurant. Service was attentive but not intrusive and the food was fabulous! Cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough!

Lovely pizza / food. Great restaurant cozy with a friendly buzz. Freshly cooked wood fired pizza so big I'd recommend you refuse the starters.

Up until now, Sale and Pepe was the place of choice when it came to pizza - Castellum is now the household favourite, the pizzas are on a different level to anything you’ll find in Whitstable. The variety is great, I’ve sampled the NDuja and Ortolana, both were sumptuous. Pizza is personal preference, however, you can thank me later for the recommendation.

This place has been open for a while now so it was time to try it as our normal place was closed. Resturant was welcoming with a great buzz for a Tuesday night. Great Menu, the gentleman came over and told us about the specials and what was off the menu. (On a side note the black marker pen used to cross off dishes on the 86 list, maybe in-house printing) Great drink selection, school nite so we stuck to Zero-Zero Beer. Mussels starts. 10/10 Great flavour and the bread was out of this world. Pizzas 10/10 If you LOVE PIZZA then you need to try this place. Staff friendly Over all this place rocks. Heated discussion on the way home if it’s now our number 1 pizza places Thank you Team. We will be back

Great restaurant, lovely addition to the town.

We had a table for four on Saturday evening. It was our first visit and we will return as the food was very good. All four starters and main dishes were extremely tasty and the portions were good. I had the Tagliatelle Pollo, which was delicious but I couldn’t finish the huge portion. The house red was good and reasonably priced, and the service was good. The only negative point I would mention is that although most of the staff were very smart and clean in their black uniforms, one member of staff who served our table most of the time, was dressed in a baggy, scruffy, long sleeved t.shirt which unfortunately showed up all his sweat stains. This was a little off putting given that he was serving our food. Added to this, he didn’t have the same pleasant and engaging manner as the other staff. Maybe he was rushed and stressed 🤔 Other than this little glitch, I would recommend this restaurant.

We had the joy of getting a table at Castellum, at the beginning of a busy evening for them. The staff were engaging and friendly and the pizzas……wow, full of flavour with every mouthful. If looking to head there, book in advance so you’re not disappointed, we sure will!

Absolutely stunning, authentic Italian cuisine. Great service, wonderful wines that compliment their menu. We are looking forward to returning to try the other mouthwatering dishes on the menu!
