We went to Basil &Co for the first time although we live in Whitstable because we heard really good reviews about it.It was my husband’s birthday we weren’t disappointed the food was beautiful a menu to suit every taste ,the staff were just wonderful.Will be going back very soon .

From Faultless to thoughtlessly treating customers. They appear to have become a little above their station as they appear to be serving the 'whitstable crowd'. No care of disabilities. Would have recommend it here so much, but not now and nor will we return Horrible the front of house . Rude Your service was diabolical and your reply more so. I do support local and that is why we were there. You were rude, dismissive and entitled. One of the worst receptions and misleading replies. It gets worse!

First visit to Basil's for us this week, on a Thursday evening, with our pub quiz team, which is a varied group. (1x vegan, 1x hates chilli & fennel, 1x prefers traditional British fare.) Place was packed when we arrived, & the acoustics are such (all hard surfaces so quite echo-ey) that we found conversation a bit difficult at first but as other tables finished their meals & left that fixed itself. (Hence 4 stars for atmosphere) Quite a long delay before the order was taken & a further long delay before the food arrived, but it was an unexpectedly busy night (quite a lot of unexpected walk-in trade caught them a bit short-staffed so entirely fair enough, but hence 4 stars for service. After those delays service was absolutely fine for the rest of the evening.) Food was excellent. Vegan's needs catered for, almost to excess. (He's a very undemanding vegan.) Menu at first glance might seem a little restricted if used to high-street Italian restaurants with pages of options, but we all had no problems finding things that we were keen to try (apart from narrowing our choices down.) Menu changes regularly apparently so no point in listing what we had here, but there were several intriguing "never seen that before but keen to try it" options, all of which turned out to be lovely. In summary, not cheap, but a good choice if you want something memorable.

Great place great food just don’t agree with a 12.5% service charge on the bill . Perhaps pay your staff a decent wage and let diners decide their tips

Not only was the food incredibly tasty and fresh. The service was brilliant, met with a smile as soon as I arrived and the chef even came out after our meal to ask if we enjoyed it. Just a great atmosphere, great quality and I will most definitely be coming back. My first time and I’m gutted I didn’t come sooner! Made my night!

Our first visit to Basil & Co, early on a Saturday evening and we were blown away. Amazing food, fantastic friendly staff and the restaurant itself was bustling with a great atmosphere. You absolutely have to go! Can’t wait to try the Sunday roast!

This was our first time at Basil&Co but it had come highly recommended by close friends. It did not disappoint. The staff were welcoming, friendly, seeming to be really enjoying being there which added to the experience. The food was delicious and perfectly sized portions when having a 3-course meal. Only suggestion would be to offer a wider variety of vegetarian options. Had a wonderful time and look forward to returning.

We recently celebrated our wedding anniversary at Basil and Co Ristorante Italiano in Tankerton, and it was an unforgettable experience. The food was absolutely delicious. Every dish was prepared to perfection and full of authentic Italian flavours. The wine selection was incredible, complementing the meal beautifully. What truly stood out, though, was the outstanding service. The staff were attentive, warm, and made us feel so welcome. It was a perfect evening, and we’ll definitely be returning. Highly recommend Basil and Co for anyone looking for a special dining experience!

Another wonderful meal here. The food never disappoints. Mushroom pasta was absolutely delicious. Staff are consistently so lovely and friendly. I really think this place is one of my favourites ever and I hope it goes from strength to strength.

If you’re ever in the Whitstable area, you MUST try this restaurant. Unlike some Italian restaurants, it has something on the menu for everyone. Geared up for pasta I actually ended up having one of their specials this evening, beef wellington. Hands down the best one I’ve had in my life. My husband had lamb ragu with pea and mint puree, also amazing. A lovely selection of wines and cocktails which are served by their attentive staff with a smile. Couldn’t fault any of the service and also had a lovely chat with the owner who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Will be recommending this restaurant to everyone we know, kick started our weekend away to Canterbury perfectly.

We came for lunch on a Friday with family and can honestly say we were all blown away by the food, atmosphere and lovely owners. Even my Nan and Grandad who eat nothing but ‘baked dinners’ thoroughly enjoyed their meals. The scallop starters tasted incredible and were presented beautifully, it wouldn’t look out of place at a top Michelin starred restaurant. I had the pork ragu which again was gorgeous, pasta cooked perfectly in a deep rich meaty ragu.we all enjoyed a bottle of Franciacorta which was delicious and good to see on an Italian restaurants wine list. It’s a must try for Prosecco lovers wanting something a bit special! Also try the home made lemoncello, very sharp and authentic. I’ll definitely be returning in the near future!

This Italian themed restaurant is good, staff welcoming and food is good quality, well cooked and presented but the restaurant lacks authenticity.

Amazing lunch yesterday with our friends. Everything was perfect from start to finish, staff and food. They were so welcoming and friendly. We will certainly be returning and look forward to trying the Sunday lunch one day.

First, a confession. I have spent many years travelling in Italy, from Calabria up to the Veneto and everywhere in between. I'm very, very particular about the Italian restaurants I visit in England. So imagine my joy at finding Basil and Co.! The menu is authentic and avoids the 'McItalian' so many peddle out. You can tell there is an Italian (sorry, Neapolitan!) involved. Get involved and enjoy. If you're celebrating grab a bottle of franciacorta. You won't regret it. If I had to pick one negative, it would be the lack of amaro to finish the meal. (Tracy: Tu hai bisogno di una bottiglia di amaro!!)

What a great find at that village or city not sure… My partner was desperate for some breakfast or lunch and we just pop in at that place. So absolutely great “accident” I guess. Food - outstanding, service - brilliant, even our dog received special attention and rib eye steak… So they made our day for sure and keep us running for rest of the day for nice beach walk

Took a stroll along the sea front before deciding on finding somewhere to have Sunday lunch. Walked the length of the high street before deciding to eat at Basil & Co. Lovely looking restaurant with a small yet delightful looking menu. We were pleasantly greeted and a table found for us. We hadn’t made a reservation, but would do in future since it did end up being quite busy. The staff were very polite and attentive. The specials were explained and drinks promptly brought over. They have a nice little selection of wine. The Chianti was particularly good. We opted for a starter from the specials menu and the rib eye Sunday roast. The pork wellington starter was delicious as were the three musketeers (selection of bread with varying toppings). We felt the bread starter was a little on the large side. I’d have been happy with half the portion, but we understand everybody’s appetite is different. The pork wellington was delicious with a sort of ratatouille accompaniment. The Sunday lunch was one of the best we’ve had at a restaurant in a very long time. Everything on the plate was cooked to perfection. The carrots were delicious, the broccoli was nice and tender, with the right amount of bite and the asparagus was absolutely delicious. The parsnip felt like a delicious treat, too. There was just the right amount of everything. Gravy was to die for and of course the potatoes were beautifully cooked. The only thing I can possibly complain about was that the rib eye was a steak and not from a rib roast. Because of this I would probably have the Pork Belly next time. I prefer to have thin slices of a roasting joint of beef with my Sunday lunch. It felt like too much meat on the plate. That said, the meat was cooked to perfection. We were so full we couldn’t manage dessert, but I have no doubt they would have been as delicious. We’ll definitely be revisiting in the near future. Thank you to the staff and chef for a lovely Sunday lunch experience.

Had a spontaneous trip to Whistable over the weekend and fancied some Italian food. We googled nearby restaurants and found basil&co. Being massive foodies we dine in all types of restaurants worldwide and let me tell you this meal was on point! It was amazing from the start, the portion sizes were very generous and the flavour blends were out of this world. The staff were very attentive and the total cost of the meal was an absolute bargain. So glad we found this hidden gem and will definitely be back.

We went for lunch to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary and I must say it was an excellent choice. The food is sensational, with subtle flavors and extraordinary dish presentation. It's been a long time since I've tasted such delicious dishes in a restaurant. The chef came to see us at the table and even prepared some of the “special wedding anniversary” dessert. Bravo and thank you also for the impeccable service and the kindness of the staff.

My husband and I had lunch there for our 35th anniversary. We wanted something special and we were not disappointed. OMG!The food was to die for and I must say that it has been a long time since we ate such amazing, tasty, succulent, delicate and so well-presented dishes. I can't stop thinking about this lunch. Not to forget the service which was excellent. The chef came to chat with us and even prepared a little surprise with our desserts for the celebration of our anniversary. We highly recommand this jewel. We will be back, no doubt about that!

Basil & Co is a small restaurant in Tankerton. Very welcoming and lovely decor inside. It’s not cheap but you really are paying for amazingly good quality food that is clearly cooked with skill and love. The chef here really knows what he’s doing and presentation is beautiful too. Make sure you try their home made limoncello. It really is good!! The only thing that stopped 5 stars was a poor espresso. For an Italian restaurant, this should never happen. If you get the opportunity to eat here, fo! You’ll not be disappointed

We were on a family away day to Whitstable for our 30th wedding anniversary and or sons 27th birthday. Came across this restaurant on Tripadvisor and decided to book some months in advance. I can easily say the restaurant really exceeded our expectations, the food was different from the standard Italian food and a lot of thought went into it. The food was reasonably priced, well produced and the service was excellent. They even allowed us to push back our reservation time as we were can’t watching the England football that went to penalties. Was a great night all round and would highly recommend.

We had seen the area on a TV Programme and live about 40 miles away so decided to visit and had seen the restaurants on the Internet and i popped in a booked a table for Lunch that day, the staff were very friendly and helpful no problem. The food was to die for and so beautifully presented will definitely be back.

Had lunch, very friendly staff, bread starter nice. And fresh olives, I had the steak, unfortunately it was a little chewy in parts, chips were lovely. I shared the special with a friend, crab linguini wasn’t offered Parmesan and had to ask, we also needed salt I hate to say this but it was incredibly bland and have had nicer Tesco finest ready meals I thought to return it but with the Parmesan it was ok. I think you need a better chef, and pan fry the stake in very hot pan, their technique wasn’t great, and wasn’t sure if it was eve rib eye. I can’t return in its current form . Sorry

We decided to eat out last minute and this was on the way home. They managed to fit us in outside and we had a lovely meal. Starters (burrata and crab arancini) mains (duck and the aubergine dish) and desert were all top class. Beautifully presented and tasted amazing. Service was excellent as was the wine. A real find and would go back without hesitation. Really had a great evening.

The food was good but it is not kid friendly. They do not have a kids menu and will not offer to downsize an adult portion. The service was slow and the restaurant was empty so I cannot imagine what it would be like when busy. Sadly we wanted to love this restaurant but left feeling like we won’t return.

Had been meaning to try for a long time & I’m gutted we didn’t! What an absolute gem in the heart of Tankerton. The inside is much larger than it looks & is decorated to create a nice atmosphere with comfortable seating & space. The staff, from the minute we arrived until we left were outstanding! You can tell Every member of staff is invested in the restaurants success, giving the best service available. Attentive, not over the top, knowledgeable & polite. The menu had great options, a twist on the usual Italian choices & having three vegan options plus others that can be changed is impressive for this area. A good choice of alcohol free beer, wine & cocktails is also unusual & very welcome. The food arrived looking spectacular, the finishing touches thought through & all of our party were impressed with the portion size (just enough) & the taste. 3 of us had the mushroom pasta that was naturally vegan with the fresh home made pasta soft but tasty & just enough to feel satisfied. Good choice of deserts & a vegan cheesecake with strawberry coulis which was like jam, could have just had that in a tub! All three courses were impressive & all four of us enjoyed each one which never happens when we go out. I hope they change the menu regularly (especially the vegan options) as that’s a frustration for regular diners out. We will definitely be back to try the lunch & Sunday afternoon menu & I truly wish this restaurant every success as they deserve it.. 10/10 all round..

Probably the best Italian meal I have ever had, honestly!

We went here whilst on a staycation in Whitstable. We were very lucky to get a table. We were first to arrive on a Sunday but soon after it got filled up. I can understand why now. The restaurant itself is tastefully decorated. I don't remember the name of the pasta dish I ordered but it was exquisite. It was a cheesy ravioli and had a hint of pear as the filling. I just wish I had some more! The presentation was superb! A special shoutout to Hannah who was simply amazing and so friendly. I rarely go to restaurants twice as like to try out new places but would definitely come back here!.

Great Italian place for dinner. Even the outside feels welcoming. Great contemporary look and vibe inside. Delicious fresh food, amazing homemade pasta and desserts. Super friendly staff, good wine selection. We went to this place as the menu changes according to seasonal local produce. The chef went out to meet the guest and ask about the food. He recommended dessert and offered a great limoncello cream which was deliciously refreshing. Great place overall.

Loved the decor inside and twinkly lights outside. Staff are lovely, invested and really genuinly friendly. Drinks were gorgeous and presented in beautiful glassware. All food was presented and tasted magnificent, it felt like it was cooked with passion and love. We were so impressed with this find, all of us were bowled over. We are 3 ladies who chat lots and eat out a lot,. but were stopped in our tracks, by the food and experience. Thank you to everyone who worked there last night.

Looking for a Mother’s Day lunch venue and came across this lovely little gem of a restaurant. We were greeted by very friendly front of house staff and shown to our table. There was a set menu with a special of Risotto with a 24 hour braised lamb shank. The drinks order was taken and then the food order. The food was amazing and so was the atmosphere. Lots of families having Mother’s Day together. Hats off to the front of house and kitchen staff for a great menu. At the end of the meal the chefs came out and went to each table asking how it was etc. Totally recommend this place and will definitely be returning.

An absolute wonderful day spending together with my family on Mothering Sunday, in a fabulous restaurant. From the moment that we’ve arrived until we left, we were made to feel so welcome. All five of us couldn’t fault the food and service. Thank you very much indeed to everyone who made our time at the restaurant so special.

After my partner had a wonderful Christmas party last year. I decided to visit it on Mothers Day. But it wasn't a brilliant as I hoped To start with all soft drinks were only sparkling, didn't even have apple juice. Only soft drinks were water or coke. No bread and oils was offered, I guess they were too busy too offer that. The mussels were to spicy for my liking, but the bread was delicious, the ribeye was excellent even though I asked not have the chilli infused vegetables and chocolate semi freddo was rock hard, needed 5-10mins more defrosting! It's bit misleading says Sunday roasts are back, but its italian way of doing Sunday roast. The food presentation was outstanding! But choice of music spoiled the atmosphere. But my mum thoroughly enjoyed her meal, so that's all that matters. As it was Mother's day there was a number of children, but they weren't catered for. Just got half portion size for half the price. Not a place to take children! I would only go there again for a really special occasion. Its far expensive for just a night out.

I don't like this. I came here hungry. Had to wait 1 hour for food. I don't recommend if you want a short wait, but food is OK. Don't recommend for picky eaters. OK if you like fancy food at a long - ish waiting time.

Our first visit to Basil & Co to celebrate a birthday did not disappoint. The food was delicious and beautifully presented whilst the staff were friendly and welcoming with just the right level of attentiveness. We couldn’t fault the evening and will definitively be visiting again.

Gorgeous food and plenty of it. Went for Sunday lunch and was not disappointed. Do not recommend having a starter with the roast unless you have a big appetite. Would highly recommend.

Sadly our table of 4 had become a table for 2 (due to illness), we contacted the restaurant and there was absolutely no problem keeping the table. Oh how glad we were that we did , a friendly greeting at the entrance and immediately we felt welcome. Service was polite and we weren't rushed to order, instead having a cocktail while we looked at the menu. The menu itself was fantastic, lovely pasta dishes, raviolis filled with boar or squid, various meats and fish dishes too. Of course vegan and gluten free options were available on both the starter and main course menus.. Our starters arrived, I had a delicious beetroot dish topped with black truffle, I followed that with Wild Boar Ravioli (a restaurant speciality), both were amazing. My wife has seafood filled ravioli with an Octopus ragu over, the sauce was to die for and my wife thoroughly enjoyed her meal. A white Chocolate Bombe followed for her and I had the homemade Tiramasu ( a must for me in any Italian restaaurant) , both were made to a high level . I should also add that the house wine was also very nice , and not the usual 'that will do' offering that other venues try to offload. All in all a 10/10 dining experience. Would we visit again , we have already booked again and are looking forward to a second visit.

Really enjoyed our first visit to Basil and co and we will be back. Excellent service , friendly and efficient but not intrusive. Loved the starter, thoroughly the main but was a little disappointed with the pudding. Ferrero Roche bomb was a little heavy and needed something with it. 5 starters,5 mains,5 pudding and 2 drinks each £285 with service Its not cheap but its well done

I came to Basil & co. For a friends leaving meal. My partner had recommended it as we love great food and he’s been 3 times and was jealous I was going without him lol. They were really accommodating with balloons and wrote a nice message on my friends dessert plate. I can’t tell you how friendly they were and the chef actually came out to talk to the customers which was a really lovely touch, especially when you then got to find out some of their background and how they came about. The food was insanely good we had the crab arancini balls to start, the wild boar ravioli with pork ragu for a main and the special Expresso martini to finish. Oh my gosh these are all MUST HAVES!!! I can’t recommend this place enough we’ll definitely be back and I can’t wait!

Was nice, food great couldn’t fault what we had. The ambience wasn’t very authentic Italian, thought the food itself was. I just felt whilst the service was very pleasant and polite it just didn’t feel so welcoming somehow. Last night my husband and I attended Basil and Co for a beautiful incredible dinner. From the moment we walked in we felt at ease and met the owner of the restaurant. She kindly went through our menu options and made us feel comfortable. We could not fault the service, atmosphere or the dinner. What made it even more special, was meeting the Chef, Sammy and his training Chef, Soren. They both came out to introduce themselves and ensure we were all happy with our meal. Outstanding! I also judge a restaurant on their toilets!! Now, these were extremely clean, which is extremely rare to see. Keep up the good work... we cannot praise you enough. We can't wait to come back soon.

This is easily the best Italian in Whitstable, maybe the best restaurant in the area. We arrived without a reservation (though I thought I made one, promise!), but they let us in for dinner and were very friendly. The two female staff members were attentive, kind, and informative about the menu. And oh my god, the food. We each had a starter we shared, and they informed us that the focaccia starter would be about a 15-minute wait as they had just put it in the oven. Worth. Ever. Second. It was the best focaccia I've ever had. It was amazing, and next time, I will be asking for the recipe or buying a whole loaf. Dinner was also excellent. I had one of the specials, and my partner had the mushroom pasta. We were both delighted. We didn't need dessert, but we got it anyway. I am kicking myself for not trying the tiramisu, but the Ferrero Roche bomb cake was delightful. Thank you to the staff and chefs of Basil and Co. Amazing food, atmosphere, and service. Basil and Co is another great addition to Tankerton high street. A quality Italian restaurant serving authentic delicious dishes; the wild boar ragu is nothing short of magnificent.

First time visiting today and won't be the last. Food was amazing can't recommend this highly enough. I had a roast the pork belly melted in your mouth snd the crackling is the best I have had and the roast potatoes were very tasty as was the vegetables all freshly cooked. The staff were very friendly and attentive. And the atmosphere was very welcoming. We most certainly will be going again. 💯

We live locally and went for the first time following recommendations(why did we not go before). What an absolute delight to find a really first class Italian restaurant in town. Excellent service, very slick yet not pushed for time and allowed to enjoy superb food. All the staff are clearly well trained and the 2 chef's came out to talk with all the guests at the end of service-very professional and very much appreciated. Had an unbelievably good meal here last night! So delicious! Beetroot Arancini, Lobster Ravioli, Espresso Martini Tiramisu. Owners and staff are wonderful - super friendly, helpful and professional. Chef came to our table to say hello and talk us through his food. We are so lucky to gave this restaurant locally and will most definitely go back again! X

We had a fantastic meal in Basil and Co. The wild boar main was unbelievable, and we loved the Ferrero Roche bomb dessert.
