Castella Fish Bar in Croydon

This place has gone down the hill in the last 2 years. I've tried to give it a chance but now they have lost a customer after what I've just been served up. I've just been charged almost 40 pounds for this. The young guys behind the counter have no idea how to cook. Totally burnt batter caked in oil. Mushy soggy fish in side when it should be flakey. Seriously, who ever is in charge of these kids cooking the food needs to sack them. Worst fish and chips I've ever had!

Order ahead and get THE BEST Gluten Free battered fish I have ever had - So light and crispy. All the usual menu favourites with a few unique additions. Very friendly service and always a busy shop with repeat customers.

We usually go further afield to our tried and tested fish and chip shop, but decided to try our local for a change. Unfortunately we won’t be going back... The chips were terrible, possibly old oil, and the fish was not very nice.

Stoped on the way back from our dog walk, the owner was so lovely and chatty while we waited for our order - he even gave our dog a whole sausage for free while we waited outside! The dog was thrilled and so were we, the fish here is excellent too it’s fresh and the batter is lovely and not too oily! Great chips, 10/10 all round

I’ve never eaten from here before but I decided to try some of the cod and chips today. The fish filet was very thin and still had skin on it, so I did not eat the bottom of it. Other fish I’ve had in similar places usually serve their fish skinless which is just better in my opinion. The chips were an enormous portion and good. I also asked for a buttered roll and when I got home the roll had been added to the hot food, so was all stuck and melted which was not great. I would probably get their chips again but nothing else.

Ordered on deliveroo and received the worst food. Chips old, pie old and stale and the curry sauce? Water with with a hint of curry powder im not joking iv got pictures. Deliveroo only partially refunded what a rip of , food went straight in the bin.

Great, really friendly service, everything cooked fresh to order, fab homemade tartare and a slice of lemon with your fish, big portions, low prices and a cone of chips to munch on while you wait! Couldn’t recommend more, go and try it!

Always so so fresh and tasty, big portions and excellent service every time. Feel lucky to have this gem nearby! Try there homemade tartare sauce!!

Fish, chips and peas were freshly cooked and delicious. Excellent quality and value for money. I expected that because its been here decades. Now its been refurbished with a lovely eating area, fresh flowers on the tables and friendly staff....delightful! I will return and maybe try something else from the wide menu.

These guys are the best!!! Not only are the staff super friendly and welcoming but their chips are AMAZING, the prices are super reasonable and it’s spotless. So really, it’s an all round winner :)

We can't believe our luck to have this gorgeous fish and chip shop on our doorstep. Everything is freshly cooked to order, lovely welcoming service and home made tartare sauce and mushy peas. What's not to like?

Looks great with the new refurbishment, the staff were very friendly and charismatic, fish and chips was delicious with some great curry sauce would recommend to anyone!

A while ago I visited Castella for chips. The guys there were really friendly and I like the way their chips are cut in house. There are not many fish and chip shops in the area so this is one to visit but I think it depends when you go because I like my chips freshly done so they are blonde but anyway I still recommend this place. Recently they had a makeover and I love that red telephone booth entrance. As well as the decor the new fish and chip boxes are stylish so I will get a picture on my next visit. I didn't that guy from the previous visit but the younger guy is still there.

Despite very friendly service, and an extremely generous portion of cod, I had to abandon my chips, due to the oil that was used to cook them in. The oil was either re-heated, or of a very poor grade, as it prevented me from enjoying the chips, which I had to throw away subsequently. The fish was very good, but based on my experience, I won't be returning.

Working in Croydon away as I'm from Scunthorpe in north lincs passed the chippy late on at night popped in and what a chippy, fantastic food fresh clean piping hot and the guy at the counter what a bloke happy friendly and a battered mars bar on the house 10 of 10!!!!!! 😍

No exaggeration, it’s the best chippy I’ve ever been to in my life. Everything made to order, food is unreal, staff are lovely... just try it ✌🏼
