As a hotel guest who is eating at the restaurant I can say I am pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food, to some extend… Cooking oil must be changed more often as my truffle fries were just spoiled by this detail. I think your kitchen staff is good, but on the ground you have gaps. I am served by 3 people, taking ages to bring a ginger beer, getting the bill is also painful. You cannot have a guest who has finished the meal asking after the dessert menu while a member of staff is cleaning tables! Especially as the table subsequently sat empty … I was not asked how my meal was, even after I evidently did not eat my truffle fries as they were drenched in old cooking fat. My knife was not replaced after I finished eating my soup, so I had to use steak knife for the rest of my dinner, not good … I think you have high potential. The food quality is very promising, but customer service side is far behind.

We ate on two occasions while staying in the hotel for a 4 days. On the first occasion (an evening meal) the service from the waitress from greeting us to paying the bill was superb warm, efficient and highly professional. On the second occasion we had a late lunch and the service from a young male suited member of staff was appalling. Supercilious condescending and patronising. It seemed to be intentionally planned to make us feel uncomfortable. On the whole the food was well presented and prepared (the fish was superb the Ceasar Salad was miserable). However, the menu was confused. It seemed to have elements of a menu found in health club, gasto pub, and elements for a more up market fine dining. I don't think it met any of these. I wanted the convenience of eating there everyday, however as a vegetarian there wasn't the range of foods available. The food also seemed poor value. We normally stay at Hogarths whem in the Midlands and the food there is so much better.

We visited whilst staying at the hotel. We were told there was no room in the restaurant so had to sit in the bar. At 8pm on a Monday the restaurant did not look busy and there were plenty of empty tables. At the bar food has to be physically ordered from the bar. There is no waiter service. I was shocked and highly irritated that 10% service charge was added to the bill before the food was even delivered! An additional £7 was added to the bill. Once they had charged me an additional £7 I was made to wait an hour for the food to be brought out. The service was incredibly pathetic one meal came out followed by the other 5 mins later. I asked for salt and vinegar for my chips and that took an additional 10mins. The food was actually very good if not over priced. The hour wait and additional service charged ruined the experience and I will not visit again.

I should have heeded the warnings about eating here, but with a many day stay we ended up here in the evening once for drinks and risked ordering a snack. It didn't go well. I looked at the menu, wanting something healthy and also substantial enough. Noted the hummus with toasted pita and vegetables, and noted the 856 kcal. Considering a full size tub of hummus has about 400 calories I figured this would be plenty of snacks for us. What came out was a tablespoon of hummus (see photo) with a little piece of cold pita and some vegetables. I pointed out that it was enough maybe for a 4 year old child they took it back to the kitchen and said this is what it is. The menu is incredibly inaccurate, the pricing is inappropriate, and they couldn't even make it right when pointed out. Fail. We definitely will continue to eat elsewhere during our stay.

It started badly and got worse. The place was empty apart from one couple, and we were seated 18 inches from them !!! We were then told we had less than 1.5 hours to have our pre-booked 3-course meal !!! I've now also checked the immoral small print, and a time limit wasn't mentioned there either. We walked out. What a load of rubbish.

I've spent a whole week at the hotel, and had most of my meals at this restaurant. The food was great, especially their stakes and pasta options. The staff members were all so lovely and super helpful. The portions were generous and reasonably priced, I would definitely eat here again :) Not sure what problems did this place have in the past that resulted in not-the-best reviews, but all of that seems to be resolved now.

Having stayed at the hotel for a week I’ve been delighted with the food. The mac and cheese is DIVINE! Better than the Hawksmore in london! The rib eye steak was very good, cooked perfectly to how I like it. The staff are delightful a particular mention for both Tilly and Martyna!

The restaurant didn't have a record of our reservation. Our confirmation email had to be found on a phone to prove we made the booking. No apologies given and we were asked to go to a table in the bar to wait. I ordered multiple drinks at the bar but the white wine spritzers caused the issues. I asked for two white wine spritzers with lemonade. I've never had a problem ordering these anywhere else. The wine went in but the lady behind the bar filled a tumbler with soda water and added it to the wine. I reiterated that I wanted lemonade. She said that spritzers are soda water. So I said that I had asked for lemonade instead. She became rude and defensive here and told me again that spritzers have soda water. I apologised but I reinforced that I had asked for lemonade in the first place instead. She wasn't very happy about it and I came away with a sour experience. The hotel manager was good enough later to deduct the drinks from our bill by way of an apology about the attitude I had received. We were sat at a restaurant table eventually but waited a while for menus. We asked for them eventually. Food was good but I agree with other reviews over the price vs quality. No one asked us if the food was ok. Or asked us if we needed more drinks. Not a very pleasant experience. I don't go out of my way to make a complaint normally. But it wasn't acceptable.

Bad, very bad. Had the cast iron burger. Bad burger, frozen, bad quality, bun was dry, crumbled upon eating. The fries were cold and bitty. Not very good. It was also served on a terrible plate with made eating it awkward. The onion rings were good. Although no sage as described. The Caesar salad was ok, but for 6£, embarrassing. If it was under the sides at £4, yeah I get it, but not a starter, also, if it’s in a tiny bowl, the lettuce needs to be cut to a size where you don’t need to attempt to cut it up yourself, which seemed impossible. Several spelling mistakes on the menu. Unfortunately we booked via a third party, so things were already paid for. So of the items my friends ordered were embarrassing, especially the bread tin, not a tin. Some dry badly toasted bought in frozen bread with anchor butter. Very bad! We didn’t expect much, we didn’t get much.

Beware the masters of meat experience detailed on the menu is not the experience I had. I ordered the rump steak medium rare which turned up and was 50% inedible full of elastin and un broken collagen. After a few minutes of the plate sliding over the table as I tried to cut the meat with my steak knife (That I had to ask for) I decided I'd send it back. The waitress was very helpful but then returned to the table to inform me from the kitchen that I ordered rump steak and it was supposed to be like that.....the masters of meat clearly know what they're talking about. They agreed to change it and offered me a sirloin which was better but not great. Not a great customer or culinary experience.

It looks like the issues previous reviewers have mentioned haven't been resolved. I waited over an hour for food, the priority was clearly the large bar orders the golfers and cricketers had put in. On the plus side, the food I had was better than Wetherspoons, but definitely doesn't justify the price.

Very disappointing lunch- waiting at least 45 minutes for two sandwiches on a Saturday lunchtime when it really didnt seem busy- and at around £10 for sandwiches they really were nothing special. Had to move tables because golf-club members watching the football really loud in the 'members only' area which is not seperate to the bar for the hotel/spa/pool in anything other by a little sign

As Marriott members were absolutely appalled by the service here at the cast iron bar and grill. If you come and visit Breadsall Priory i’d reccomend avoiding it. Both times upon ordering food we’ve waiting just shy of an hour. Like weatherspoons food but double the cost and the staff are so rude and don’t find the time to even apologise when we’re clearly quite upset by the wait and gone past hungry. We won’t use these again, a maccies will do.

A group of 4 of us went for afternoon tea for my mum's birthday. We took my grandma, and weren't told upon asking for the location of the place at reception that there would be an unreasonable amount of stairs to eventually reach the bar itself. Cue bad feelings. We were then told that upon arriving at the cast iron bar and grill that the afternoon tea isn't served there anymore (even though I reserved it and wasn't told prior). They agreed to serve us there, as my grandma couldn't make the steps down easily. A mug of tea arrived, with a teabag in. Sorry, what? Is that afternoon tea? We complained, and got a canteen-style metal teapot, with a teabag in, and the same mug again. The sandwiches were good, the scones were a little lackluster, and the cakes were OK (hence the 2 stars). We couldn't finish the food, and my grandma asked for the extras to be boxed up. They gave us a sheet of aluminium foil. What? DIY boxing up with a sheet of aluminium foil when it cost £76 for 4 people is not on. Suggestions: Nice teacups with saucers, and tea leaves. Extras boxed up by the staff, not wrapped up by ourselves with tin foil. Forewarning by reception of the lengthy trek to the grill. Clear information as to the location of the afternoon tea, not just saying cast iron bar and grill, then turning us around when we get there. I don't think I'll be returning.
