Case & Brewer in West Dorset

Food is quite nice and the service was ok but i cant get over the prices I got a portion of chips and a plain sausage for basically £8 🤬

Really good fish (my partner is from Kent but claims this is the best he’s ever tried), as a vegetarian I wish there were more options though. The battered mushrooms are nice but give me a tummy ache. chips are soggy, wish they were a bit crisper. Prices fair

We’ve just had the worst meal ever from Case and Brewer. The battered sausages were over cooked and had hardly any batter. The chips were mainly small bits and were dry and inedible.. We use Case and Brewer regularly and this was definitely not up to standard. Very disappointed.

Lovely staff and swift service. However the food is super greasy and portions are very small. It was the grease; way too much oil. Me and a friend have suffered with certain stomach ailments... Due to said oil... I wouldn't eat here again, sorry... It's nowhere near as good as callaways in fordington.

Well ordered fish chips and mushy pease but didn't want them wrapped together also ordered a chicken fillet burger that was put in with the chips so instructions that were wrote down got ignored 🙁 then of all things no mushy peas but a tray of battered mushrooms which got opened BY SOMEBODY THAT HAS SEVERE ALLERGY TO BATTER!! that person if they'd of even touched that batter would of needed an ambulance e en tho the hospital is 2 minutes away listen to your customers this was my 1st visit and won't be back

2 x cod and small chips. Got the food home, all stuck together like a soggy lump stuck to paper. Why don't these fish and chip takeaways use greaseproof paper. Cook the chips a bit more so they have a crisp bite to them (not over cooked), but a nice size of chip, not a soggy mess stuck to the soggy batter of the fish portion. Looking at what we had, I would say just under £9 each for now a lot. So it's a definite no no for us, very disappointed.

Cod in batter was more batter than cod. Chips were skinny and not the large portion I paid for. This place seems to have gone downhill 🙁

Have been using this chip shop in Dorchester for 30 years as it is the least worst! Chips always stick together in a big claggy lump. Fish batter is quite greasy. It's never been great, but has slowly got worse. Will have to try Fordington or San Telmo again...

Scrummylicious... Everytime. The only problem is we drive half hour just to get our hands on these delicious chips and fresh fish

These have been the best so far since we got here. The oil they used was fresh and the food was so good. The staff were kind and helpful. I am glad my friends stopped there for fish and chips. It is a good idea to buy a bottle of ketchup for the chips. We did.

Ordered large battered sausage and when I got home had the smallest small battered sausage I’ve ever seen, charged me full price but didn’t give the food I paid for

I have been using Case and Brewer for my fish and chips and/ or other tasty treats since the 1970s. However, to me it is not just the food that counts but the service during and afterwards, should you ever be unfortunate to have a problem. Recently after returning home with my order (£23.80's worth), I discovered the mushy peas were missing. I realise they're a small item at £1.60, but it's the small things that can make a meal. I phoned them up on their number and left a voicemail with all my details. This happened on the 14th September 2023. Today is the 24th September and I have heard nothing. Hugely disappointed! I hope they will improve their service behind the scenes, after reading this. I still recommend their food though......

We drive 28 mile round trip to buy our food from here and have done for the last 30 years, never had a poor family meal from here, quality all time every time.

Friendly people, excellent fish and chips. Very helpful and accommodating as one of us requires GF and they had no problems frying cod without batter, which turned out moist and very succulent. Definitely the place to go in Dorchester. Thanks to all.

Probably the best chippy in Dorchester town. Traditional and popular. Limited street parking so try and avoid parking like a pleb on the corner!! Fish on some other items are cooked to order, so a slight delay is possible, but the friendly staff warn you of this on ordering. Flowers outside the shop are amazing, I think they've kidnapped Monty Don and keep him in the basement 😆

Working at the hospital and passed here on way to town centre hotel. Good food. Goodmportikn sizes. Fish batter nice and crispy, chips really nice and not too greasy. Couple of picnic tables outside so can eat there.

We moved from London 5months ago. I was recommended to try Case+Brewer by my grand daughter. She was right, it really is delicious food. My husband+I had haddock+chips this evening and agreed it was as good as the best we've ever eaten. Well done Case+Brewer. We'll be back!

Used to live in Dorset. And we'd always go here. Then we moved to Devon 40 years ago. Mum and dad and us lot (kids) would do a fish and chip and battered mushroom run now and again. And we always came here. Now I'm doing one soon, can't wait.

Surely a chip shop is a chip shop right? Well this one is a cut above, with excellent service and delicious food, plus there is always a guess the year quiz to ponder whilst waiting

This was a mixed bag for us. The service was good and fast considering there was a queue out of the door when we arrived. The quality of the food was good, and a good sized portion for the large cod. But the chip portion sizes were poor with a large equating to what I would say was small to medium. My local gives 3 trays full of chips into a bag for a large portion where this place gave 1. As such the 2 large chips we ordered for over £8 left us feeling a little disappointed. Also the mushy peas came in the tiniest pot I have ever seen, smaller than small! It produced about 3 heaped teaspoons full and it was all gone and wasn't cheap. So all in all we enjoyed the food but wouldn't return at these portion sizes.

Personally find this to be the best in dorchester always fresh food and friendly staff only downside is there is always a que ( but shows that its good)

Overall a fair priced product, enjoyed the fish and chips whilst I waited for a train on Dorchester West Train Station. Definitely go there again..

Lovely plain jumbo sausage and chips the other day and of course had to get some battered mushrooms too , quick service and great prices too also helpful polite staff too ! will use again for sure !

Portions are ridiculously small. Got a large chips but was definitely more like a small-medium… not happy. Curry sauce isn’t great and they don’t do pea fritters. Go to san telmo at the bottom of town instead, you won’t be disappointed. :)

Great food served really quickly - loved it!

London prices but not London portions. Everything was disappointing. A smallish portion of luke warm soggy chips and a soggy battered jumbo sausage. The mushy peas were tasteless. My microwave and additional salt, pepper, and vinegar resolved the issues, but I will avoid in future.

Best Fish n Chips I've had in years!

Hands down one of the best chippies in the area. Often a queue outside and for good reason. Service is pretty quick though so you don't end up waiting for overly long. Parking is the only limitation (on street) but there is plenty of it most of the time.

The food from here has always been lovely. The staff have been friendly over the years. I can't recommend this chip shop enough 👍👍👍😁😁

Reliably excellent f&c. We usually have haddock cooked to order but cod equally acceptable. Generous portions.

Used to be good but over the last year has gone down hill. Greasy food and very meagre potions of chips. A large portion just about fed one person. Used to feed two plus. Unfortunately won't be using again

My favourite fish and chip shop. Delicious food, well cooked and drained. Superb covid measures despite how busy this popular shop gets. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly, and prepared a portion of vegetarian chips for my daughter in the regular mixed order without needing to be asked not to use contaminated utensils etc. Apparently this is something a lot of restaurants and fast food shops do not do unless you ask.

Lovely fish and chips but oh my it was expensive! Burgers are much, much cheaper. I used to have their OAP special but couldn't see it anymore. At least the food tasted great and they bought it out to the car rather than have us wait inside. Good covid measures

Great chipper - we get haddock, chicken leg or steak & kidney pie with our chips. Never more than a 5 minute wait on a Saturday lunchtime and yummy thick chips made from real potatoes! No coeliac option, but their chicken and chips is sufficiently free from added wheat & gluten not to trigger intolerance :-)

Chicken breast very dry and not edible. Fish looked like 2 bits of cod on top of each other then battered which made batter sparce as more fish that batter. Batter extremely greasy and fish tasteless. Chips were good and not greasy but portions are very small so would definitely order large for a person with a big appetite. £18 for 1 chip butty each as rest of food was poor. Food use to be good but not anymore recently. Staff not very friendly. No hello what would you like or how can I help you, just anything else. Dont expect thank you or enjoy. No bye either as I think they are only taught sell... Unless your desperate, please go elsewhere.

Enjoyed the pea fritters and fresh, chips were very good and fresh will be back again.

We normally got to Callaways, but driving past C&B decided to go in as there wasn't queue Ordered haddock & chips and had to wait until the haddock was ready Went home to find I'd been given cod & chips... So, won't be going back to C&B anytime soon
