We visited at lunch time today and bought a hot turkey Christmas cob with roast potatoes. ..not the cheapest option but it looked good However by the the time we had queued for hot drinks and to pay for our food and drink our meal was at best luke warm. As my friend said, we would have been better going for the cheaper option of the cold turkey cobs. The food needs to be on hotter plates and to be served at a hotter temperature at the time if serving. More staff might be a good idea too I did mention it to a member of staff but they didn't seem interested. I wouldn't go again for this sort of meal

A lovely location on thr chatsworth Estate, but two things massively let this establishment down; 1 - all the cakes are uncovered, meaning that they are all extremely dry and stale (I go to chatsworth a handful of times a year, this disappointingly never changes, and I always include on the feedback survey I receive after each visit. Clearly nobody is reading them!) 2 - despite two hot drinks stations, there only seems to be one person at each, actually making hot drinks. Even when the queues are huge this doesn't change and I regularly see people put their tray back and walk out in frustration. The servers are maddeningly slow too ....or is that just amplified because we have to wait for an eternity to be served? I love chatsworth and am always hopeful these things will change; they are super easy to resolve and would make such a difference!

We haven’t visited for several years so thought we’d give it a go for lunch. Same old problem, once you’ve got your hot food you have to queue to pay behind customers who are only purchasing a drink, or cold food. Consequently your hot meal becomes a cold meal. Then you need to find a table. If you have a dog there is a designated area for you, unfortunately I noticed that this area was full, and none of the people in this area had a dog with them! Maybe a sign telling customers that unless they have a dog they should dine in the main dining area? There were plenty of empty tables. The staff also need some training in how to make a coffee, I requested a flat white but unfortunately got something that definitely wasn’t a flat white(see photo). Otherwise a very nice place to visit.

We dropped in here for a coffee and slice of cake whilst visiting the Christmas markets. For a Monday it was extremely busy, there are two areas you can get drinks from, the area on the left tends to have more selection, but the place on the right had a shorter queue. We opted for the right and were served by a lovely gentleman, very tall and double barrelled name, he was engaging whilst he prepared our drinks, having a good laugh with us. Then a very obnoxious elderly gentleman decided to jump the queue and demand to be served. The man was still serving us, and explained that there was a queue to Mr Obnoxious, but would be with him in a minute. Unfortunately this man decided to protest and demanded cakes etc, our server immediately and very politely just sent him to the back of the queue! Fantastic to see a proffesional dealing with a horrid customer! Well Done!

Looks beautiful but the food was at best average and disappointing. Some nice staff, some rude and unfriendly. Upkeep of the dining area could be far better than it is. You can only dine out on your location so far, the catering services definitely need to up their game particularly as the cost doesn’t reflect the experience.

We ordered coffee at The Courtyard Coffee 'shack' as we were sitting outside with the dog. Very slow service, the two members of staff didn't seem to know what they were doing. The people before me in the queue ordered Cappuccino and a flat white ..which was made and served in exactly the same way as the Latte that I subsequently ordered. And, when I asked for a double espresso was treated like I had asked for something really difficult rather than the easiest coffee to make. They referred to it (not on menu) as an espresso with an extra shot! The milk in the latte had been heated to the point of being burnt ..and in both cases the coffee flavour was not good. Now I realise that we are at Chatsworth and nothing is cheap ..but £7.20 for these two significantly sub-standard coffees is outrageous. I know the hospitality industry is struggling for staff, but this is not an excuse for lack of training when you do have staff. So either train them properly or don't serve barista coffee.

We visited at 4.30pm on a Sunday afternoon and the place was near empty but took forever to purchase 3 drinks. Two of the staff that served us were miserable and abrupt - well actually one never said a word!! No apology for being kept waiting. It’s a shame as it is a lovely place for a quick drink when visiting Chatsworth and there is a dog friendly area to sit. Signs everywhere saying to respect the staff who are there to help. Mmmmm - maybe some of the staff need to buck up their ideas and respect their customers too!!

Visited the cafe today whilst walking around the estate area. We all had the ham and mature cheddar sandwich with salad. The sandwiches were very nice and we cannot fault them. The staff were all friendly and polite. The selection of hot food on offer at the time of our visit looked very nice. There was also a lovely selection of delicious cakes. The cafe itself, in our opinion is not appealing once inside. The clear plastic chairs are horrible and not in keeping with the rest of Chatsworth. They are also uncomfortable. They make the cafe look like a roadside snack bar.

Visited here several times as I can take my little dog in with me as there is a separate area for people with dogs to sit. However several times there are always people in there without dogs using up tables dog owners could sit in when there are plenty of tables for them to sit in in the rest of the building. Why they are so selfish who knows? The food is lovely and reasonable price plus being a gold member at Chatsworth I also get a discount. My biggest gripe though is how long it takes for them to make hot drinks. This is especially annoying if you have hot food and are not having a drink but you still have to queue as most of the times I have been there they don't have a separate till open where non drink buyers can pay. Surely an easier way would be to pay for your drinks and give you a number. There are plenty of staff stood around who could then bring your drink to you. Hot food choice is pretty good with a few different items available. The coffee is nice too but don't always tend to bother due to the slow service as otherwise by the time you've waited your foods gone cold. Overall the food is good. The surroundings are really nice and it's great you can take your dog in with you it's just a shame it's let down by the slow service for drinks or paying.

Chatsworth has recently provided a dog friendly room as part of the Carriage House Restaurant, for once this is a lovely room and not like the usual dungeons that establishments feel are good enough for dog owners. It is a little awkward to access as you have to enter through the exit doors of the Carriage House Restaurant which clearly say No Entry, the dog friendly area is then on the right.I was very disappointed on this very dismal wet day to find this room almost full and I could only see one table occupied by a dog owner, while we dined this become prevalent as more and more people without dogs come and occupied this small area compared to the vast seating area in the main part that was almost empty on a day like today. Why would people without dogs be so selfish as to choose to occupy this dog friendly area.If you read this review Chatsworth I think the sign should be changed from Dog Friendly Area to Reserved for Dog Owners Only, and police this.Dining from this area is a little awkward as you are next to the exit so you have to leave & go outside and back in through the entrance in order to join the queue, as I'm with the dog my partner has to then come back and tell me what is on offer and then go back outside again and re-join the queue at the entrance. We both had the soup which was very tasty.

We have frequented this place a lot over the last 4-5 years but since a new person took over management the food and choice has really gone downhill. Used to have a jacket potato and filling/salad for around £7-8 not bad for where it is. Now they don’t even sell jackets?! The kids meals used to be reasonable now you’re looking at half portions for about £6 - never worth it. The sandwich boxes now consist of a choice of cold garden peas in a pot (yes really!!!) or jelly pots. Forgive me I don’t know many kids who regularly tuck into a pot of cold tinned peas?! Gluten free options now reduced As potatoes are off the menu however the soup was gluten free and tasty . My husband had fish and chips £12 and had 8 chips. He said the fish was nice. Drinks you’re looking at £2.50-3.50 for a soft drink. This place is overpriced for what you get / over staffed yet many don’t seem to know what’s happening. All in all I would return here but probably in a year in the hope it’s changed hands again !

This restaurant is situated in the old stable block of Chatsworth House, seat of the Duke of Devonshire and one of Britain's foremost stately homes. The old stables also house an interesting array of shops and stalls selling garden plants. The food is good - several hot dishes always feature on the lunchtime menu - the soups are excellent and there is usually one slightly unusual dish or a twist on an established favourite. There is seating inside and in the courtyard on fine days. Queues are usually long at lunchtime, but generally it's worth the wait! There's a good range of puddings and of biscuits and cakes. Children's meals are rather run-of-the-mill - pick 5 pre-packaged and overpriced items... The main meals are on the pricey side but always good quality.

Drab stripped wallpaper adorned the walls - why not vinyl photographic images of the various parts of the estate: brewery, lambing, deer, scenic views, the fountains, etc. As previously stated, all very expensive for what is little more than a canteen - the only saving grace are the staff. The Restaurant and Cafe are nicely decorated and well laid out, but I had a feeling everything was going to be expensive so I opted for drink only to quench my thirst. There seemed to be a good selection of sandwiches, cakes and hot meals available and what I saw on other people's plates looked nice. I decided to buy a glass bottle of Wild Elderflower Bubbly as I had enjoyed exactly the same drink at a National Trust property a few days earlier. There were two ladies on the till, busily chatting with each other and one customer already paying in front of me. There was a slight delay as they resolved an issue with the transaction but it was soon my turn. The lady on the till did not say one word to me until she abruptly demanded the cost of £3-50p, no apology for the delay, no 'Hello', nothing. I was astonished as I had paid half this price at the National Trust property earlier in the week! As I was handing over the money, another customer behind me was called forward to the other lady that was also at the till now that they had finished their conversation. Overall I gained the impression of them both being rather rude. To be honest, I expected much better, manners and courtesy cost nothing. The seating area was very busy but there were a few empty tables, empty but not cleared or cleaned. I recommend that people take a picnic with drinks!

Whilst we cannot fault the House, "Oh Dickens - It's Christmas!" nor the Staff the Carriage House Restaurant is a huge let down to Chatsworth House. I use the term "Restaurant" loosely too as it really is a kind of canteen/self service eatery with hotplate food servings. We had the 3 Bird Roast and whilst it was a decent slab of meat the stuffing scarce. Vegetables nothing to shout about, gravy thin and to be honest the entire meal luke warm - and even colder by the time we had got to a table with the snail pace of service from hot drinks and till. No Yorkshire Pudding either although advertised on the board. For two meals, pot of tea for two and two Luscombe drinks our bill was just shy of £40. Wouldn't have minded paying that if we had got value for money and food decent. Milk is served in little pill/medicine pots which you have to fill up from a machine. The seating area isn't much better either - really cold and paintwork shoddy with no atmosphere and the decor depressing. Really needs a refurbish and heating installing. Won't visit again for sure unless major changes preferring to either try The Cavandish, Flying Childers or elsewhere off the estate. Such a shame! Was so disappointed and let down after visiting the house.

Awful ! Poor choices, over priced. untidy, tatty restaurant with dirty tables. Shamefully declined over recent years. Jacket pot and beans £6.95.....no side salad. A small potato and watery beans unceremoniously plonked on top. For nigh on £7, I'd expect a side salad.! No salad options...unless pre packed and side salad sized at over a fiver. The once splendid salad section was full of cakes !!!! It looks like there's been a change of caterers, and it's truly disappointing when you think of the prices they charge. clear your own tables too....although not many bother. Lots of unhappy customers that day. Really, really don't bother. The cafe at the farm shop is much better...go there.

We stopped for lunch and were a bit disappointed at the varied quality. The pie was tasty but the meat was tough. The vegetables ere well prepared but put onto a cold plate which meant they got cold quickly. The stroganoff and hot sandwich were good. Nice cup of tea and coffee.

I met up with a relative for lunch midweek. Firstly I must say that £4 to park no matter what the purpose of your visit is feels like an absolute rip off. The pain could be eased by deducting this from any subsequent purchases on production of the ticket but that sort of benevolence seems to be long gone on the Chatsworth Estate. Our self service food was fresh and edible but very over priced even compared to London prices. That said it is a lovely ambience with friendly helpful staff.

There are two restaurants at Chatsworth House: the Carriage House restaurant (self service) and the Cavendish Restaurant (table service). The Cavendish Restaurant menu has been rewritten, and the change seems to have been a disaster! On the two occasions we visited Chatsworth and wished to get a meal, the Cavendish has been practically deserted at lunchtime (it fills up for Afternoon Tea). We found the summer meals lack lustre, uninspiring and overpriced. The service could have been better also. Returning in the autumn, the menu was just as boring: we opted to go next door to the Carriage House Restaurant and helped ourselves to large bowls of soup, bread and croutons for a fraction of the price we had paid previously. If the Cavendish lunchtime dining figures are as disastrous as I fear they may be, the Duke and Duchess must be horrified.

Having had a pretty awful experience at the Whitworth terrace cafe I came here with my parents for lunch. We had toasted sandwiches which were well made, tasty and well presented with a lovely crunchy salad. The staff were friendly and attentive. I would recommend this cafe to anyone.

Lovely place. People pleasant enough. Ordered some food. Should have taken 20 mins tops. Over an hour later still not had food. It was just a steak sandwich, which it said came with onion chutney. Crispy piece of steak with a few fried onions. Cold chips and onion rings that were sitting in oil. A couple that came in about 45 mins after us received there food first, and that was 2 curry dishes. Was told the steak took longer than the curry????

First of all it is an extremely clean pub / hotel and I agree dogs shouldn't be allowed every where. We have witnessed dogs sitting at tables in other pubs ..not in Bakewell. But we called in early doors last evening for a quick drink whilst waiting for the bus. Crikey talk about a frosty. . reception ...not from the young lady greeter but from the bar staff...we were told to sit in the back of the pub if we were only drinking..it was soulless . Not somewhere I would consider eating. Came back to Baslow for a lovely greeting.

Ive reviewed this place before as its our go to. We have been many times. We just got back from one night stay in the annex where we usually stay. We have never had any issues before but last night was a bit disappointing. The bathroom needs cleaning properly. The tiles and the drip bar under the shower door was terrible. The bath panel had been broken and not repaired and the bottom of the bathroom door was broken so we couldn't close it. There was dust on the headboard too. Late last night as we were tucked up in bed, the fire alarms went off so we shuffled outside in pjs and coats. No staff around. We went to Reception and ended up in the bar. No explanation really so that was a bit unnerving. This is our go to and i really want them to get standards back up. I dont want to start trying to find alternative places to stay but if it doesn't improve then we may have to next time.
