Carluccio's - Richmond in Richmond upon Thames

Really poor experience, loads of tables just left in a state after people had finished eating. We were sat at a table that had to be wiped down around us. My partners carbonara was like warm but meat burnt so sent back and therefore didn’t eat together. My lasagne luke warm but didn’t send back as bloody hungry. Use to be really good but wouldn’t recommend to your dog, considering this has cost circa £60 for 2. Go somewhere else as Richmond has better places to eat.

Unlike previous reviews, we experienced great service from the time we entered. We had coffee and cake in an extremely busy pre-Christmas restaurant. Nevertheless the staff were very friendly, efficient and helpful. Special thanks to Isabelle who went out of her way to advise on Christmas gifts and to Colette who served us.

Went for a pre theatre meal but the service needs improving - we were getting anxious about timing but even when we tried to call for our bill and the waitress acknowledged it she then went off to serve three other tables. Olives were swimming in marinade, chicken Milanese was fine as was a chicken Caesar. Pinot Grigio was decent. It might have been fine if we’d gone for a lazy lunch but for pre theatre the service needs to be sharp and it certainly wasn’t

This is a large busy restaurant and Sunday Lunch time is extremely busy. However there appeared to be only 2 young lady servers and one bar man covering he section were were sitting in at the back. The tables and chairs at the back are so close together that, in my opinion, they would make it extremely difficult to escape in the event of fire. I thought my bill was more than it should have been. When I checked the menu I'd been charged 12,5% service. I do not recall seeing any mention of this on the menu

Really disappointing visit to what was once a great brand. Arrived at 8 in the evening to be told there was no ravioli or parmesan left on the menu - how can an Italian restaurant run out of parmesan!. We waited 30 mins for our mains and received them with no cutlery. Pasta was mediocre and oversalted. First time we have been to carluccios since the scale back, really sad :-(

Absolutely dreadful service on a Sat eve. The restaurant was not particularly busy, however we were completely forgotten about on several occasions (after waiting ages after finishing our mains, we then had to ask for a dessert menu & even then nobody came back). We then decided to skip dessert (due to being forgotten about) & ask for the bill. Nobody came back with that either & we just went to the reception area to pay instead. Staff looked totally disinterested & absolutely no sense they they were doing anything wrong. Initially when we arrived at the restaurant, virtually all the tables were empty inside. When we tried to request a particular table we were told that one wasn’t available! Also when asking for tap water they frugally poured a glass from a jug (& didn’t leave the jug on the table). Food & wine were below average & I would never, ever return here again. Dreadful!

Arrived about 7.30 to an almost empty restaurant. Ordered a much needed (in this heat) Malfy Limone G&T. Waitress came back 5 mins later to say no Malfy available. Pinot Grigio was good to be fair. Mixed bread arrived without the advertised bread and oil. Took well over 5 mins to rectify. If the place was full, fine but about half a dozen tables on the go. Risotto was OK but a little dry. Requested chilli oil for pouring and came in a dipping pot! Had to ask for a dessert menu! Definitely no upsell in this place. Waited 10 mins and not asked so asked for bill. Bill never arrived so we went to the till after 10 mins. Surprise surprise the Malfy G&T was on the bill. Have visited Carluccios before in Bluewater and was excellent. This was a real let down.

We had a lovely meal, great food and great wine, but what really stood out was the service. Mitra took great care of us, she was attentive, helpful and kind and went the extra mile to make sure everyone had a good night. She didn't realise but we were meeting together because we have recently had a death in the family, so the care she took with all of us really meant a lot and helped us make the most of our time together. Thanks for a great night!

Mitra looked after us all so well. We were coping with bereavement and somewhat traumatized, but she was empathetic and kind and dealt with a broken glass and split wine as if it was not a problem at all. A very enjoyable evening after a difficult day!

The menu has been updated since last here, a much bigger choice but also price hikes throughout. The food was very good. Felt very sorry for the two young women working there. The restaurant filled up quickly, people eating inside and outside due to the weather and they were simply run ragged. So service was slow and hard to get their attention. It wasn’t their fault, they tried hard, it was more like they just didn’t have enough working there. As a result, the toilets were in need of attention too.

Staff lovely but was bemused by the food I'm afraid. Restaurant lasagne is mean to be professional and brilliant. Cooked expertly? This was bizarre. i won't go further. Dont want to be too unkind.

We went on a group of 10 adults and 3 kids for father's day celebration today. It was very disappointing to say the least. When we first arrived the tables weren't ready so we had to wait 15-20 mins to just sit. The waitress was very dry when she evntually came in and didn't look like she wanted to serve us. The starters took 1hr to come through through only after we reminded them. They were mostly breads and olives! The mains again another hour, and when they finally came, the pastas were rank, some were burned, others were full of butter, and 2 rissottos were missing. The waitress said that it would be another 5 mins for the rissottos as they forgot to make them! When they eventually came, they were too salty and over cooked. No one appologised for the service, no one kept us updated about the wait or the reason for it, honestly really really disapointing experience especially that we were all gathered to celebrate fathers day. They just didn't care at all.

Enjoyed a solo dinner here. Good wine selection and friendly busy staff. Dinner was fine if not exceptional.

Very slow unfriendly service. Delivered wrong meal to one of the kids. Whole place not clean looking. Few members of staff gave the impression as they didn’t want to be there. Never again.

Every time we've been the staff have been friendly and attentive.We had the bread to start and Sirloin steaks for main..Don't forget to ask for the mushroom sauce !! Perhaps we were affected by not having very much time (about an hour) before our visit to the theatre but we did not enjoy our visit. We were not overly made welcome and the ambience was not as enjoyed previously. Despite saying that we were short of time it took longer than we wanted to have our order taken and the menu choice was limited, especially for my Vegan wife. The cost was high for lunches of drinks (£3.65 for a bottle of coke) and main courses only - no coffee. I really objected to 10% service charge being added - I would not have paid that but we were in a rush so did not dispute it. I paid on the way out to save time and I doubt if we will return, better to rely on our local at Bentalls in Kingston me thinks.

We were really looking forward to dining here, but sadly we were very disappointed. The service was slow and the food was returned twice. One item was still frozen. Sadly they have got it so wrong, perhaps need a new team?

Well. Five of us went to this branch to eat a few weeks ago. We had booked for a table outside but were told that it was now full so we'd have to eat inside. I ordered their sauvignon from Italy. When it arrived it was VERY yellow and smelt weird. It tasted off so I called the waitress who took it back to speak to the manager. When she returned she said that was was it was SUPPOSED to be like and that they have had several people sending it back for the same reasons! Why sell it!!!Starters were OK. But the main course pasta was swimming in water. And tepid. And the puddings were awful. We ordered vanilla ice cream but were brought coffee. We told them that we didn't want coffee and were told that there was no more vanilla! My rum baba was the most repugnant pudding that I have ever eaten. Seriously. Like sugar syrup over a bath sponge. The location is good and our waitress was very nice which is why it's two stars rather than one!

We had starters followed by gnocchi and spaghetti carbonara. Really recommend - the carbonara was a good portion size and very tasty, reasonably priced too. Served by Maria who was very friendly.

Visited this restaurant for the first time in a while tonight - it did not disappoint. Quality service, as always. Pasta perfectly cooked, as always. Lovely coffee to finish. As a lady dining on my own there is a friendly and welcoming atmosphere here, even during the pandemic - a warm welcome is assured. Congratulations for maintaining standards Carluccios Richmond. We had the set lunch menu (£12.95 for 2 courses) which was fine, if unremarkable.My friend paid but when I later happened to catch sight of the bill, I realised he had been grossly overcharged - the manager had charged a ridiculous amount for each dish (£15.95 per starter and £20 for each main - more even than the a car carte prices). When I challenged the staff they looked embarrassed at being caught red-handed and refunded the difference without argument. A fellow diner told us this had happened to him on a previous occasion.You need to scrutinise the bill at this place. It seems they try to pull this trick regularly on unwitting punters.

I’m never one to moan about restaurants and I understand things go wrong, but this was awful from start to finish.We had a booking for 8:15pm and got to the restaurant about 8:10pm and we had to wait outside for about 20 minutes before someone even acknowledged us. They took our name and checked our booking and we had to wait another 15 minutes before we could even be sat. We were told we could wait at the bar in the meantime but there was no room so we just had to stand around and wait awkwardly. Finally we got a table... outside in the rain. The table and chairs were wet and we were pushed up against wet plants. It was also at this point we got our first bit of evening entertainment - a drunk homeless man trying to fight the waiter - lovely! I kindly asked if we can move inside to which I was told that other people had been waiting longer. Finally we got moved inside (seconds before we were about to leave) and there is NO social distancing. Tables are pushed up right next to each other (even if there wasn’t a global pandemic it’s still very squished with no privacy) it was loud, unorganised and more people than tables. We had about 5 different members of staff serving us chaotically so had to repeat ourselves over and over again.Then there was the food, speechless. My partner had the pate to start with burned toast and more jelly than meat, I had calamari that just was 90% overcooked hard batter and some bland excuse for sauce. Then we moved onto the main. We both had seafood linguine, nice and easy, just pasta, sauce and chuck some seafood in, very hard to get wrong, right? Apparently not! Bland, tasteless, and felt more like a soup with the amount of water at the bottom! We took a few mouthfuls and asked if we could take it to go (we didn’t want to look rude or ungrateful by leaving over half of it).Like I said, I NEVER complain, I understand how things go wrong and accidents happen and I wasn’t going to say anything but I just went to reheat the seafood linguine from yesterday (in the hopes of adding some extra ingredients and saving it) and there was plastic in it! WOW!If I could give it 0 I would. Carluccio’s, do better!

To remember a loved uncle who we ate with Jere once, recently passed in the US. We arrived and were seen to quickly. At one point the small boss started shouting at a member of staff who had slammed a condiment on our table without acknowledgement. From then on we we’re aware of some staff issues. The pasta was a bit too al-dente and dry so we left no tip and went somewhere else for Gelato.

The staff were excellent, all had visors. There was antiseptic at the entrance door. Very clean toilets. Service and food both excellent.

My daughter and I had a wonderful lunch today. We shared some calamari to start and it was crisp and fresh. My daughter had spaghetti carbonara for her main course and it was flavoursome and packed full of guanciale. I asked for my pasta to be changed to linguini for the penne giardiniera and it was sublime. We had a bottle of excellent Fiano and espresso and macchiato to finish. The service was wonderful and we had a lovely table outside. A most enjoyable lunch.

Dined alone for lunch. The Aranaci starter was dry and lukewarm as if it had been microwaved for a few seconds. The Seafood Linguine was warm and didn’t look fresh. Not offered a spoon for the pasta or another napkin after the first one was used. The Tomato and Onion Salad was appalling. One large tasteless tomato had been sliced with just a few old bits of red onion on top. Asked for the dessert menu, it didn’t arrive. After ten minutes I asked for another one. The service here is not good but the food is absolutely terrible. I ate here pre-Covid under a different owner and it was acceptable. However, I would not trust this place to not give me food poisoning. Save your money and go somewhere decent.

What a shame!! Carluccios allowing staff to work with miniskirt that you can see under everything, working with piercings etc.. We were sited outside, our waitress was thinking she was at night club especially the way of working, she was flirting with everyone other customers and her colleagues guys. I have been to many restaurant, this was my first time seen someone working like that!! Really disappointed!! I have been served my food without cutlery,they guy who served was really sorry about it! Of course our waitress was to busy flirting with other guys. I think that they should understand the of way of working professionally, Managers should give training, I didn’t feel comfortable with my partente. Carluccios should provide a proper uniform, trained how to work up standard.. All the staff were to busy to chat to each other.. We will never go back!!! My evening was ruined. Food was ok at list!!

Food delivery quick, Pad Thai very bland and no sauce. Broccoli good but very strong seasoning.

Carluccio’s is pretty standard Italian fare but no less pleasant for that. Quite reliable. We went for a pre-theatre supper on a Tuesday and it was predictably fairly empty but service was friendly enough and food ok. Instead of offering black pepper with a flourish they have tiny salt and pepper mills in the table. Silly really but that certainly gives less of a sense of occasion.

I was rather surprised to read the negative recent reviews. We had a super lunch at Carluccio's yesterday. Service was cheerful, attentive and timely. The food was in fact excellent. We would certainly visit again (and as my son works in Richmond, we almost certainly will). We all had food from the set menu which I thought was very good value. Decent portions, food hot, delicious and plated well. Nothing not to like.

Went here sunday after the rugby and puzzled by some of the reviews. Food was excellent and the staff were absolutely spot on.

Where do I start!We reserved a table 6 months prior to our visit and confirmed it not only a week before but also the day before as we knew it would be busy!On arrival we were informed that our table had been given to someone else and so we were shoved into a corner (where people go to wait to be seated)!The waitress was a disgrace with no customer service skills (Her opening words were ‘what do you want’) and was completely un-accommodating! They ran out of glasses of rose and instead of trying to find a solution just said if we wanted it rose we’d have to buy the dearer bottle and pay for the whole bottle!The seafood linguine (which was one of the dearer Options on the menu) had 2 small prawn in it and 5 empty mussels shells and was completely over powered with chilli and actually tasted bland.Our general opinion of the meal was that they didn’t want us to be there and that everyone else was more important than us! Had the service been better we would have happily stayed and spent money there!At no stage during our meal did anyone ask if it was ok, if we wanted another drink

Nice restaurant and great Thai food

Pre-theatre supper with friends last night and very disappointed and certainly would not return. The best value food is the set menu, but even though a table for 6 people, not one set menu available. The general menu was available as was the specials menu but one of us noticed that set menu missing, as wanted something that was mentioned on another menu was in set menu and we had to ask for that menu. We then all chose from that menu as best value. Sadly, 2 of us chose the vegetarian started and main and they were almost identical – a lot of kale and the only difference was that the main was covered in almonds and had mushrooms and the starter was on bread- bruschetta.Service was slow too, as well as not having correct menu available. Nowhere to hang cots either.

Told on arrival around 1.30pm on Friday that the table would be ready in a minute and made to stand near the door for over ten despite several unoccupied tables being visible, along with lots of seats in the bar area. Eventually taken to a table which hadn't even been cleared properly: stuff left on both seats and table. Server failed to offer desserts and coffee after main course in a timely manner.

We were in Richmond on Friday and decided to have some lunch in Carluccios. We had it booked but were very lucky that they had a table for two especially as the restaurant was very busy...so thank you. Service was fab and the recommendation of the chestnut hummus was spot in, it was absolutely delicious! This was our second visit and will certainly be back!
