Need to update website to clarify booking. I booked online thinking I was booking the Whispering Angel Terrace only to be told when I arrived that it was closed for a wedding party. It was not clear throughout the booking process. Had it been evident with a message highlighting the date was unavailable , I would not have booked dinner for that evening. When I queried it at reception the assistant was very matter of fact. The error was down to me.

We visited the whispering angel brasserie which is the outer setting of the 1665 for my birthday as a surprise from my wife. The setting is amazing and the staff were really attentive. We not gave it a 3* rather than higher as the prices for what you’re served is a bit steep. Also wanted to remark so hopefully the management can read this , who looked like the maitre D took our order (young chap in smart clothing) I ordered the dry aged sirloin medium. He replied “my advice sir is because it’s been dry aged you should go for it medium to rare as it’s dry aged otherwise it’ll be tough “ firstly this is a bug bare of mine. I hate it when waiters tell you how to have your food. I made no fuss and agreed as I don’t mind rare meat. Well after it was served I now realise why he advised this. It was more because he knew their cuts were tough. Couldn’t actually cut it at all with the standard knife so had to ask for a steak knife which wasn’t sharp. Wife’s crab linguine was far too small a portion for £26 also. Apart from that I had a nice day but they need a new meat supplier as dry aging tenderised the meat not make it tough. Had steak for decades never heard this line. It’s a new one to me lol.

There were 8 fingers of sandwich- as one of the party had a fish allergy the egg mayonnaise was repeated the contents were boring. The scones were lovely but the other cakes were all jelly like texture and all very much the same. The 1/2 glass of champagne wasn’t very cold. We had a lovely view of boat pick up and drop off, the overall atmosphere was good. Very expensive with regards to food content.

A lovely spot at which to celebrate our anniversary and it was a lovely evening on the river terrace. The food was well cooked and tasty. The staff were friendly and helpful and it is an enjoyable place to watch the traffic on the river go by. The atmosphere, which would otherwise have been just right for a summer evening was spoiled by the fact that music from an event in a nearby room of the restaurant clashed with the bar music being piped over the terrace making it difficult to talk and impossible to tune out the discordant noise. Either the windows of the room where the event was taking place should have been shut or the music in the bar should have been turned off. Although the waiter appreciated the problem, there was apparently nothing he could do when we asked if the bar music could at least be turned down.

I am really happy with our time at The Mitre on the Whispering Angel Terrace! The service was great from all of the staff and the food and atmosphere was brilliant. This has always been one of my favourite places whenever I visit Hampton Court. However, on this occasion, on Sunday 11 August 2024, it wasn't such a pleasant experience. Inside the restaurant, I was greeted (or more talked at) by a very snotty staff member, whose name I was then told, is Morgan. I first asked if I could have a drink outside and was directed to the terrace bar, with complete disdain I might add. I proceeded to the terrace only to find all parasol tables were unavailable, on that particular day, temperature in the sun was of 31 degrees and I am very prone to heat strokes. So I came back to reception where, again, Morgan was rather dismissive, with absolutely no customer service, problem solving skills, warmth or smiles, and then gave me the brush off on the account that the place was being reset for dinner. And that only drinks were available. Fair enough. I was about to leave when I decided that no, I really wanted to stay and came back to reception... Morgan again, this time looking rather annoyed and irritated, I told him I understood the restaurant was being reset for dinner, but kindly asked if I could possibly sit inside. Pointing to a giant double 8-seater sofa by the foyer, he told me to sit there. I asked him if there was another smaller table with a view, he went looking, but still looked annoyed. He then found an area with window river view tables for 2. Progress. Told me to sit anywhere where tables weren't already set for dinner. I did that and sat at a table that was a bit in the sun, he was kind enough to pull the curtain, but again did it like it was a bother. Enters Alison, with a bright smile and warm manner! 😊 She went out of her way to accommodate me. She made my experience that little bit better. But after I left, I still couldn't shake off Morgan's very unwelcoming manner. As I told Alison, I simply couldn't explain nor would I stand for it, having worked in the leisure and hospitality industry for years, as a barmaid, waitress, receptionist, staff manager, staff director in several settings including restaurants, bars, night clubs, retail outlets, cruise ships, hotels, with more often than not, very long shifts on my feet for up to 10-12 hours, sometimes more, and in very warm conditions, with a headache, stomachache, whatever ache or thinking of unwell family members back home. I was still smiling, accommodating, and delivering the wow factor, no matter what day or time of day or night. So I simply cannot understand Morgan's manner or attitude on this particular occasion, especially when I've always had a warm welcome on my previous visits... In my opinion, if he was my staff member, I would put him on an intensive customer service training / refresher course asap. What is possibly more worrying, other than personally treating me poorly, is that he might have the same attitude with every single customer... He might serve, but there is no warmth or smiles, problem solving skills, and quite a few bothered looks or sighs.... On a side note, the drink I had, left me with mouth ulcers within 15 mins of consuming it... So altogether, that's £9 for a low quality soft drink, a packet of ready salted crisps and a very lukewarm welcome... I think I'll give this place a miss on my next visit.

We visited to celebrate a special anniversary, I had included this in our booking but it was never mentioned . On arrival it was not clear where to go with the first welcoming station being closed. We made our way down some unmarked stairs and arrived. We were ignored by the first member of staff who was at the bar. We felt further ignored as the next person made a great fuss of customers who arrived behind us and immediately took them to their table, they were given choices of where they could sit. We were told the person was coming back to us, they did not. When another member of staff did arrive he walked very quickly to a table and barely spoke to us. He seated us and gave us water and called another waiter over. They were pleasant but intent on selling us the restaurant red wine, there was no discussion how it would go with various food. Service felt perfunctorily . We did not feel the welcome was consistent. Our food The starters were delicious however the pasta main meal was dry and overpriced. We were excited to have cheese but the menu choice was not enticing; Cheese course was very dull offering one piece of cheddar priced at £14.00and we choice to go to Mute Swan and had a selection of 5 cheeses there priced 14.75. From the moment we walked into their establishment to leaving the welcome and service was warm and consistent, the service at the Mitre fell short of this and we were disappointed. In comparison to restaurants and hotels of similar quality the service at Mitre fell short.

Service was good, although the wait for courses was a little slow and 2 of our party were served quite a bit after everyone else had got their starters. We were a table of 11, so not sure if it was purely due to us being a large party. Those that had the sirloin steak said it was OK, but not great, although other dishes we all had were enjoyed. Popcorn cauliflower was a triumph though and should definitely be tried! My asparagus dish was delicious - a surprisingly large portion beautifully cooked and presented with a perfect poached egg and my husband thoroughly enjoyed his hot smoked salmon. My main was a tasty fish dish, my husband’s was fish cakes - perfectly crunchy on the outside but moist in the middle and the fat chips were divine! The only disappointment was the sticky toffee pudding which was really claggy and not good. I did discuss this with the staff and they took it off the bill - I would have preferred a really good sticky toffee pudding but appreciated the gesture. All in all a very pleasant experience.

Booked for our anniversary as married at Hampton Court and the tickets to go around the Palace were the inducement. I phoned just before re collecting of tickets and was told to pick them up at the front desk. But on arrival told that they are closed Monday and Tuesdays. I should have been told this at the time of booking. £700 per night is hugely over inflated for a room with cheap toilet paper, poorly stocked, old TV and cheap poor quality breakfast ingredients. A shame as we felt taken advantage of. Most of the staff were very polite but there is an obvious lack of training. The position of the hotel obviously gives them a privilege and monopoly on accommodation for Hampton Court. But the hotel is pretending to be something that it is not.

She recognized us again the next day when we went for tea again. Alison made us feel very welcome and contributed positively towards our dining experience.

The staff were very friendly and super accommodating. We were there for our anniversary meal and booked an inside table. On the day it was glorious sunshine but given we booked an inside table there was no space. The staff went out their way to help us, we had a lovely table by the window and even got our desert outside when a table became available.

Beautiful setting for my husband’s birthday celebration. The food however was average. We expected more for the price. My crab linguine was rather dry and my husband’s steak was overcooked when he had asked for rare. The older waiter was also quite slow attending to us and was quite short with me when I asked another waiter for his assistance. The host was very charismatic and friendly however. Overall, a great evening out and memorable - it’s a great shame the food didn’t live up to the setting.

Disappointing, especially the service which was almost as bad when we stayed a year ago. Waiting 25 minutes for coffee at breakfast, limited options of food included in our room stay but quite a few more options if you want to pay. We did eat in the restaurant in the evening although I would have preferred not to as we had a bad experience last time. Nobody seemed to be in charge to talk to, at breakfast and had to get our own cutlery from another table, and the meal options were boring. Getting a 12% service charge slapped on was the ultimate insult. To The Mitre, you really need to address this as it’s the worst restaurant service I’ve experienced in years and you’ll lose customers if you don’t.

We sat outside on the balcony overlooking the Thames, which was lovely. The service was friendly and efficient. However, the food and wine were disappointing. My wine (muscadet sur lie sevre et maine) was either a peculiar example or, possible not what I ordered at all. While the cauliflower pop-corn was a nice fun starter, the pasta and courgette was bland and under salted, the corgets where (I assume) the green stuff the pasta came in. My partners's beef roast was a little under for her, the staff were very good and took it back to cook a little longer, but her vegetables were then cold, meanwhile I had eaten my main. They did knock something off the bill and gave a free desert. We appreciated that and I think it shows they are really trying, but sadly, not there yet.

The views and the food were fantastic as always however the service wasn’t great this time around unfortunately. We waited for our bill for about 30 minutes at the end, then had to wait again to pay and at this point, there were multiple tables that hadn’t been cleaned up and the terrace looked rather unsightly. Definitely wasn’t up to its usual standard.

A wonderful Sunday lunch, sitting outdoors overlooking the river. The food was outstanding (watercress soup followed by roast beef) as was the friendly and extremely efficient service. Very good value for money, and a lovely ambience. We certainly hope to eat here again soon.

This brasserie is a gem. Overlooking the Thames, opposite Hampton Court Palace, the entire staff was so attentive, friendly and efficient. The food was delicious, especially the Wagyu Beef with truffle chips. If you are planning to visit the historic royal palace or just wandering in the area, look no further. This is the place to dine and enjoy the moment. The Mitre Hotel front staff and concierge were equally as helpful.

Very disappointing visit! We were treated to a late birthday/ Father’s Day lunch here and were initially wowed by the superb riverside location- enhanced by a lovely sunny day! Unfortunately our meal did not match! We shared two starters - a tomato bc salad and a mackerel dish which could mot have been tinier- two bites and both were gone. The make n courses were no better- two sea cream and two lamb- nine of which drew any compliments- the tiny piece of seam beam was served on a bed of overcooked peppers were accompanied by a bland and tasteless green and buttermilk sauce We ordered extra fries and a side of broccoli and almonds - except there were no almonds! When I mentioned this to the waitress she took the plate away without a word of apology and brought back the by now cold and tough tender stem broccoli with half a bag of almonds sprinkled on the top! To my horror and comment she then started to clear away the other plates before I had finished- big black mark! The prices are not cheap here but there’s no denying the beautiful setting- what a pity the kitchen can’t do better. We will NOT be returning g - sadly!

The food was classic Italian though not in an old fashioned way. All dishes were attractively presented and most importantly everything was cooked just right. Service was great and we had the good fortune of a table with a view over Bushey Park which was magical. Service was excellent.

We come to Richmond about once a year & found this restaurant on our last trip. Loved it so much we returned & it did not disappoint. We both had seafood pasta, mine was with a tomato based sauce with hint of chilli, & husband's was creamy. They were both superb. Accompanied by a lovely bottle of Italian white wine it went down a treat. We shared the passion fruit cheesecake for dessert as I remembered how large it was ! Overall a great meal out & very reasonable price.

We were a massive family party for lunch at Cafe La Fiamma. I cannot praise the service highly enough. My nephew is non verbal autistic and at one point, got up from the table and wanted to go to the park, just as lunch was served. Not a problem, the waiting staff quickly sorted my nephew and his parents' lunch into a picnic and passed it through the long windows into the park. It makes such a huge important difference when restaurants have such easy warmth and kindness towards children like my nephew. We're all so grateful, thank you. The food was also delicious. We had a fantastic time and hope to see you again soon.

We arrived late afternoon before the Saturday rush. Very friendly staff prepping for post 2nd lockdown service. They still had time to chat about recent struggles but were very positive about the future. This is the first meal here for me although the morning coffee is excellent. We ordered a pizza each and a bottle of very good house red syrah. I could see the kitchen chef rolling and cutting dough in front of the gas pizza oven. The pizza has lovely toppings, were as thin as you could make and very tasty. With an extra large wine and Calypso coffee the bill came to £53. A reasonable price for friendly staff, a nice vibe and good food.
