Carlton Carvery Restaurant in South Ayrshire

Often visited in the past and while I do understand the current limitations while Covid is lurking around the price for two people to have a two course meal with a few drinks was just over £90!!!! I’m sorry, but this is not Turnberry or the Hilton in central London. Won’t be back until sensible pricing returns. Food was ok, a bit average but the staff were as always polite and friendly. The once varied menu was much more limited than before but there’s always something for either of us.

This place is great. After being let down badly by another ‘hotel’ we got a room last minute here. We opted for dinner bed & breakfast. The room was immaculate and clearly they take pride in ensuring the place is clean & hygienic especially with the covid measures in place. The dinner menu had a great selection - even the menu with the supplement charge is very reasonable. The staff are fantastic, very friendly, accommodating and welcoming. Thank you for a brilliant stay & this won’t be the last!

I decided to eat at the carvery, I was unable to eat to the chips as they were really bad. The gentleman that served me was very nice and gave me fresh chips. I certainly didn't think the meal warranted the price

Had booked an afternoon tea for 2 and before heading out had noticed on my email that they had cancelled my booking. If that wasnt bad enough after calling and getting rebooked they cancelled my booking again. Not good enough,would I have got my table if I hadnt read my email and it was already paid for as it was a gift!!

Service was very good. Meat was extremely tasty but the veg was very disappointing. Especially as we had come from Northampton

We came here for our evening meal. The four of us all had something different. Generally it was well received and plenty. My Cajun chicken was not good though. The chicken was over cooked and the Cajun sauce was very disappointing. I would not rush back here.

Had to wait for a table but well worth itWe both went for the carvery and I must say we were impressed with the Chef doing the carving. In all the time we were there ther was always a big queue but he coped well with a good attitude. The food was all fresh and tasted excellent

The restraint is nice, very clean and nicely decorated.Afternoon tea Nicely displayed. Not the tastiest of treats. A little bit stodgy and an odd combination. Nice to try something new but wouldn’t recommend. Portion sizes were also a little big for afternoon tea Dinner We came with itison. Menu was grand, food was very tasty. Drinks were good (had a couple of cocktails). Had drinks at the bar afterwards which again was a nice setting. Would recommend BreakfastNo real issues here. Tasty, staff were friendly- did what it said on the tin. Sadly afternoon tea let the place down slightly

Had a "itison" voucher for this restaurant.We were given the "main" menu from one server and no sooner had we opened it when another server came to take it away and told us we were given the wrong menu.I asked if main menu could be left just incase the itison menu didnt have anything to suit me.....he kindly left the menu.About 10 seconds later we had a third server informing us that it was only the itison menu we could order from....i did say we would pay a supplement if anything was ordered from main menu.....Server informed us that we could not do that.Goats cheese starter was tasty enough however the batter on the prawn and vegi Tempura was AWFUL......so thick and hard and had no taste at ALL ......had the look of dried up wallpaper paste and tasted appallingly......needless to say we wont be back.

We went here for my sister in laws 30th Birthday. The service was very friendly and helpful. However our food took longer than expected. The fish was nice. The chips were average.

A modern looking hotel and restaurant somewhat tucked away on the main road. Plenty of parking and an outside seating area. We followed the signs to the carvery and were seated fairly quickly. We were presented with the 2 or 3 course lunch with reasonable options including the carvery that we chose after a wait. A cheery chef carved us generous portions of meat and we helped ourselves to vegetables. The Yorkshire puddings were a bit tough. It's very popular and service runs for several hours.

My partner and I visited the Carlton for Sunday Carvery. The Hotel was busy and there was no signs pointing you to where you can eat. We both ordered a two course Carvery and were given a seat. We ordered Ham and Turkey and helped ourselves to vegetables and gravy. When we tried the Yorkshire puddings, they were rock hard and awful. The Vegetables were just cold mush, and the Ham was too salty. Very disappointing and we will not go back in a hurry. There are much better restaurants offering better quality food.

Very good food with good alternative choices on menu. Ice cream cart delicious. Very busy but calmed down after 6pm

very nice meal of roast and lamb for our family. we were well looked after despite a very large group seated nearby. our server even got our meals placed ahead of theirs (thank you!!).

I stay in South Lanarkshire now but grew up in Prestwick/Ayr and the carvery was always a good treat for us but on a recent visit here on Sunday 8th April 2018 with my Dad and brother we were very disappointed.

We used an itison voucher for dinner bed and breakfast and we can't complain. A limited menu for the deal but we could have ordered from a la carte menu if we wished.

We met up with family to enjoy some time together before travelling back home. The lunch menu was superb and the service excellent. The choice was varied and there seemed to be something to suit everyone's taste. The standard was extremely high, would not hesitate to visit again

Been here a few times with work colleagues for lunches/dinners etc. Loads to chooses from and well set out.

We were there as a large family and they were very busy. There just didn’t seem to be enough waiting staff on. The waiting staff were lovely and were in good spirits, despite being run off their feet.

First time been here for years and we joined a party of 8 on a busy Saturday night. Rib eye steak and a cheesecake desert.

Went out to the Carlton for an evening meal with a group of 14, we were all seated together at a couple of tables joined together which was great, staff all pleasant and looked after us well, unfortunately in our opinion the food was just above average and a couple of the group had to wait a while for their salmon main coarse,I just wish restaurants would get this right and serve everyone together at the same time as it makes people feel a bit awkward if they start eating before everyone is served!

This was inclusive of hotel booking. The. Staff were excellent. Great service by very pleasant waiters and waitresses. Food was first rate with good portions. Chefs must have been proficient with food as it was excellent you were given good time between courses. We were early and had our starter in the bar before moving through for the rest of our meal in the carvery. Would recommend for a laid back night. Thanks JB

We came here between Christmas and New Year. Very impressed with the attitude of the staff and surroundings. Had a good atmosphere and food good value for us, a family of five. Staff were amazing considering they had to work when everyone else is off, cracking jokes and very attentive. We have visited restaurants that are far more expensive, only to be ignored and sat in draughty corners! Amazing place mainly due to motivated team and pleasant, warm surroundings. Left feeling very happy - well done to all!!!

Cuando aquí para la cena el viernes por la noche y ya era confusión a los menús que eran diferentes a lo que nos enseñaron cuando reservamos. Rápido para servirnos y tomar bebidas y hacer rápido cócteles para una mesa grande, la comida promedio general pero se olvidaron de una de nuestras comidas, así que tuve que esperar un rato pero agradable grande porciones. Sólo verdadero inconveniente era el que nos servía que las mujeres mayores no pude ni parecen abrir una sonrisa y nos hizo sentir incómodos cuando pedir, todo el resto del personal era muy atento y no podría ser más agradable!

Just returned from Carvery. Food cold, disappointed as like a good carvery, would not return, only good value if worth it and not in my opinion, dined at 4ish so by no means at the end of service.

I love a carvey and this one is very good. Turkey, roast beef and ham are the meats and are cooked very well . There are lots of choices to have with your meats . Great value for your money very busy best to book a table enjoy . Wish they would have the carpet during the week again like they used to .

This restaurant has amazing glorious food! The setting is a lux boutique hotel style yet the prices will not break the bank. In fact they have many special offers on including their indulgent Sunday carvery.Excellent food! Excellent Value!The staff are well trained and friendly.I shall be returning often

This is another hotel we visit when in Ayrshire. The food is good and the service is good. Very nicely placed hotel ideal for functions. Very varied menu with something for everyone. The ambience in this hotel is good and spacious and very stylish in layout

This is only a carvery on a Sunday now. Went for carvery but wernt dissapointed with our meal. Roast beef dinner was excellent as was the asian pork. portion size ample. Decor and ambiance are first class. Highly recomended.

We visited the hotel restaurant for the amazing carvery we had been recommended to try and they were true to their word. We had nothing but exceptional service from start to finish all the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. There was a very kind waiter who patiently went through the menu with my 6 year old daughter and answered her questions on what the different things were. The food was delicious and so many choices on the carvery. We will certainly be planning another holiday in Ayrshire so we can return.

We decided to eat here as it was local, there was not that many people when we arrived, but we were placed next to the gents toilets, not a good first impression, food ok, service ok. Doubt we will be back.

Took my wife out for a birthday treat on a Monday night. Although we had booked, we found that we more or less had the restaurant to ourselves. The restaurant was very nice and the Menue choice was good. For a starter I opted for the Tempura Chicken which I thought was ok but a bit chewy. My wife chose the Chinese style pork dumplings, again ok but a little bland. Main courses selected were Duo of Fish for me, this was excellent and Lasagne for my wife and she aid that it was very nice. Portion sizes were very good and as a result neither of us could manage a suite. The price, including a large glass of very good wine each came to just under a total of £50 which all in all I felt was good value for money. I would happily eat there again.

The Carlton hotel in Ayr looks fantastic from the outside and the inside decor makes you feel like you are in an upmarket fancy restaurant. The fixtures and fittings are excellent and they really have put a lot of effort into strolling the place, I am afraid this is where the positives of the visit end. I visited for an afternoon tea with my family as we had been given good reports about what was on offer. We were shown to our seats and told that our afternoon tea was on order and would be served within 10 minutes, then another group arrived 5 minutes later who were also there for afternoon tea. We were brought tea for the group apart from a latte that was forgotten about, we were assured it was not forgotten but it finally arrived after I enquired again. The second group then received their food 30 minutes later, we still did not have ours. 10 minutes later our food finally arrived.This is where the experience went dramatically downhill.Because we had waited for so long our tea was cold so I asked for a refill, we had two pots of tea and only one was refilled. When I asked about the other the waitress said "you want that one refilling as well? You only asked for one" well when there are 5 people eating of course we want both. The waitress knocked one of the cakes on the floor and just picked it up and walked off and come back with "another" cake on a plate and "threw" it on the table and walked off. We order afternoon tea for 5 but their platters were only designed to hold for two sets so they crammed on another set onto one platter making it hard to actually get the sandwiches out.Then was the quality of the actual food.The festive turkey sandwiches were really nice, the cranberry sauce was lovely.The scones were virtually inedible, this tells where between the whole group we consumed about 1 and a half, they were rock hard and so dry, no amount of cream and jam could fix it.The ginger cake was ok, not the best I have ever had but edible.I also ordered a childs fish and chips and ice cream for afters for my Son. He was served his fish and chips and I can say that if you ever visit here this is the meal to go for as it was some of the best fish and chips I have ever tried.He did not get his Ice cream as I asked for it and then we waited but the waitress never actually arrived with it so we got fed up waiting.The manager apologised for everything that had gone wrong and blamed the fact they had a very busy week but still should not slack, I blame the fact that their friends were visiting on the table next to us and they seems to get their drinks, food and best service the place could muster.My tip is if you turn up and see them being overly friendly with a particular table go home and try another night.If you do manage to stay then order the fish, the nicest you will try.

I've been here with my partner a few times for Sunday dinner. The Carvery is always well cooked, tasty and great value. We go in the evening about 6pm as it gets busy in the afternoon - dont worry, going later doesn't restrict your choice ☺. Staff are friendly and polite and the atmosphere is relaxed, so good for families and friends as well.

Stayed there this weekend for a wedding, food lovely, staff were excellent, nothing was to much bother for them, service was excellent from the Chef, waiting staff and bar staff, considering how busy they were as all rooms were booked plus any other tables that were booked. Rooms were clean with plenty of room would certainly stay there again. well done.

Been here many times over the years but not for a while until a family do held here yesterday. Staff very friendly as always. Busy car park but plenty of space. All of the food tasted great. Only drawback was, if you ordered carvery and then ice cream, you got served very quickly, but service for those who chose from the menu was rather slow.

We used to go in there every Monday for dinner but it is open every Sunday now but it used to open from Sunday until Thursday. You can have 3 chooses of meat or a mix tire of all three

We paid for a Christmas dinner for a family of 10. Poor service from outset!! Waited far too long to be seated. Had to ask constantly for next course and drinks. Management clearly bit off more than they could chew!! Ushered in quickly and directed out just as quick! No pleasantries and no coffee afterwards!!! Poor! Very poor! Will not go back!!

I have visited this retaurant on many occasions and deserves review as always excellent and good value. The Carvery is always good with plenty choice.The restaurant also provides a la carte menu which is great if someone in your party prefer something different.The other thing that makes this restaurant special is the staff who are so friendly and helpful.Definitely recommend

We had a Sunday carvery at the Carlton hotel . Plenty to pick from . Choice was good for any dietary requirements. Food was nice and hot. Would return . Plenty of parking spaces .

Fabulous family meal for a birthday celebration. Staff couldn't be anymore attentive and were happy for some of the party to order off the separate Logan's menu. The ice cream cart is a nice addition for kids to pick their own dessert after their meal. Highly recommend for a nice family Sunday lunch

Breakfast served very quickly, food in the evenings served just as fast and really tasty along with good sized portions. No complaints at all.

We phoned at the last minute on a Sunday and were given a table. On arrival the place was quite busy. We given menus and enough time to make our decision. Mum and my husband chose the carvery and i had a mushroom pasta dish off the menu being vegetarian.There was plenty of choices at the carvery. Beef, turkey and lamb. There was various vegetables, Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes. As i was helping my mum get her dinner and mine had arrived the kind staff took it back to the kitchen so as it wouldn't go cold.The food was lovely and the staff were very helpful. A lovely Sunday evening meal out with family.

Visited the Carvery @ The Carlton recently. On arrival, with the restaurant only about 50% full, had to wait an unacceptable amount of time to be attended to and shown to a table - insufficient staffing perhaps? Orders taken relatively quickly, however yet another delay waiting for 'chef' to re-appear at carvery counter - restaurant by now only 25% full. To be fair, food good, excellent quantities. After eating, restaurant now with only a handful of customers, another unacceptable wait to clear tables and be asked about teas/coffees. At the time of settling the bill the female staff member was more interested in having a conversation with a colleague than me the customer - atrocious service. So if good food at a reasonable price with 3rd rate service is what you are after then the Carvery at The Carlton is for you! Rad Group - really surprised and disappointed - perhaps some staff re-training on customer focus should now be a priority?

Just been to the Carvery with my family for a meal. Great service by the waitress and excellent quality food and drinks. Kids loved the Mancini's ice cream cones.

Amazing lunch, opted for three courses, first course delicious, carvery brilliant and dessert delicious. Service overall was great - a wee mishap with lipstick on my glass of wine but quickly rectified and very apologetic. Definitely recommend this will most certainly be back again.

Visited this restaurant on lunchtime Sunday13th March and was surprised how quiet it was. The service was good, but not perfect, asking for no ice in accompanying soft drink with lunch, it came with ice. We opted fro the carvery, a semi-self service option. There was a choice of 3 roast meats served up by chef, turkey, gammon or beef, choosing as many options as you prefer. There was no disappointment with the food, cooked well, and help yourself to vegetables.The price was reasonable and the atmosphere good. Anticipating to be back again soon.

This venue has undergone a refurbishment and the result is a warm and comfortable interior with two very different eating experiences.We ate in the Brasserie and enjoyed the whole expereince

Another really good meal, my friend and I opted for the Carvery and once again we were not disappointed. We arrived quite early and the food was very fresh, there is a very good variety, three choices of meats, plenty of vegetable choices and sauces etc. One small complaint the very cheery pleasant Chef always seems to think you need fattening up and is very generous with the portions!! The desserts are delicious. It is great value for money however there is a good choice if you do not want the carvery.

As a frequent traveler to Ayr and Prestwick, I have been visiting The Carlton for over 30 years and have seen some dramatic changes. Which I would say have all been for the better.During my most recent visit i went there twice, once as a party of 6 and once as a party of four for dinner in the bar side. While our server was all over us to take our order, almost to the point of annoying, after the first round of drinks he left us to our own devices. On both occasions we had the same server, who stood there several times as I walked past him to get my own drinks. Only one time did he offer to order for me and that was when I was walking past him as he stood doing nothing in front of a computer. I did order my drink, but waited 5 minutes, looking at my server as did not move and eventually walked past him, up to the bar to get my own drink, again! If this had only happened on one occasion, I would have let it go, but it was both visits. Had he came, on a regular basis to take drink orders, our bill would have increased by at least 30% and we would have had a much better time, but instead we were left feeling neglected and unwelcome and decided to move on before we had planned on both visits.

The food in Logan's restaurant is very good. I would recommend the carvery, although my wife had a fish dish that she thoroughly enjoyed

It had been a long time from my last visit and nothing has changed , excellent carvery , we had starter then carvery followed by a sweet , brilliant, I won't be so long in comming back , and the service was great very attentive ,

Delicious food, cooked to perfection, with friendly staff. My mouth is watering at the memory of our visits here, whilst on holiday in Prestwick! Yum!

We were disappointed that the carvery isn't open for most of the week BUT the meal we had was superb, the surroundings lovely and the staff very helpful.

This was a family dinner location good we had booked when we arrived we were told it was table 000 not shown to it .When asked what the soup of the day was they didn't know!When asked what we wanted to drink asked what lager or beer they had they didn't know !This was from a senior and clearly a junior staff memberBy this time I was beginning to get a bit worried .But the carvery chefs were great and customer aware I requested another lager from the same waitress and was brought a lager and lime by the barman don't know whether this was his error or the waitress when the sweet arrived had to ask for forks.When my food came the vegetables were slightly more than under done.When it came to pay the card reader was playing up three attempts were made eventually had to go out to the reception desk where it was successful .This apart the food was in the main very good.Maybe a bit of training for junior staff to learn customer awareness

Travelled with another couple just down the road (south for Beechwood Guest House) to the Carlton - excellent food and service. Prices and selection were very good - nice relaxing atmosphere with really friendly staff.

Although always busy the entire weekend, nothing was too much trouble for them. My aunt is disabled & they couldn't do enough to help.

MY wife and I went to a party night at the Carlton Hotel, had a great time, food was good, the staff were excellent and the band was great, would certainly recommend these nights to any body, there is another one in October and I will certainly be going to it.

Four golfers stop din for food. The atmosphere was open, clean and bright, meant for family more so than four golfers. The food was average, buffet style. While there were 'selections' it was not healthy food or even local fare; it was buffet food for a cheap price. Beer was okay, but you'd be better off visiting any number of other restaurants in the area, unless you were budget conscious and with the family.

Visted the carvery at the Carlton hotel on numerous occasions as its really good value for money and the foods always good. This is a lovely hotel with lovely staff. Huge compliments to the chefs .

Arrived place really busy and carvery was out of bounds as wedding on I think. So ate in the bar diner. Food quality and selection was excellent. Presentation and staff skills excellent. Bar food is not as cheap as carvery but surroundings are lovely and very modern and trendy. Toilets are fresh and clean. I'll need to go back another day to try the carvery.

Had a great carvery meal with my family today. Everything was fresh, tasty, of good quality, the meat was moist and cooked to perfection. However, for maybe 20 - 25 tables there was only 1 waitress, but she was pleasant, efficient and coped well, apart from us having our drinks served a bit late. Lacked atmosphere, hence only 4 stars.

Second time in 3 years we have stayed here and again the Carvery was closed due to a function. We were forced to eat in the bar restaurant where prices really go up after 6pm. So we exceeded our budget. Decent food though. The glasses of wine are on the expensive side.

It's advertised as Ayrshire's best carvery and it is. The day I went there was Gammon joint. Beef and Turkey being carved nice selection of vegetables, my only complaint is that there was NO roast parsnips., there is also a salad choice. The restaurant is nice and bright and clean. Service is attentive.

A recent visit for us was disapointing, the food is now not as good as earlier visits, the staff are very pleasent and work hard, beer good , bar staff do a good job, surroundings are nice quite informal and generally a decent place to spend an evening , prices for meals are too expensive, portions are small and in my opinion it's time for a new chef . We probably won't be back for food but don't mind a night at the bar.

This is a worthy place to take anyone for a special date, anniversary or birthday. The atmosphere is relaxed and the stag are attentive without being overbearing.The food was excellent and presentation was 10 out of 10. Prices are comparitive with other nearby restaurant so you will feel as if you have spent your cash well.Thanks folks for the service and we will be back.

me and my wife had dinner one night in the carvery and both of us really enjoyed it, the service couldn't have been better .the meal did get cool rather quick but maybe we were a bit slow eating.

I was here on sunday for an occassion and was served a high tea, mine and another lady which had to be gluten free came last, what did we get.... A curled up soggy beetroot sandwich a slice of ginger bread(very small) and a tiny bakewell tart. I told the waitress i couldn't eat a beetroot sandwich and to take it away, she then asked me if there was something else i would like, i said how about some ham or cheese but no beetroot. Obversiouly the chef had no idea what was gluten free, she later came out and asked if butter was ok. Everyone had finished their tea and we were still waiting. I can,t go back as never felt great later on as the food must of been contaminated. Ceoliac suffers keep well clear.

We thought that the carvery was very good value for money, and the service was also very good.Very pleasant dining.

Been quite a few times. The day we where here it was quite busy. Seems to have improved a lot from previous visits. The carvery had a good variety to choose from. I enjoyed the beef. For a change the roast potatoes where very nice too, looked very fresh. Quite often on carveries they sit for hours and dry out. Over all enjoyed the meal.

Over the last few months ,every couple of weeks, my brother and I have taken a car drive down the coast to Ayrshire and really enjoyed the carvery in the Carlton Hotel in Prestwick, situated on the main road at the boundary between Prestwick and Ayr. Each time, after our meals, we went down to the seafront and enjoyed walks along the prom. We have often thought about posting some praise about this carvery on trip advisor so we are doing so now. The Carvery restaurant has 3 options -- either a 1 course , or 2 or a 3-- a starter and/or a sweet. The' carvers 'are always very pleasant, civil, chaps to their customers, and the place is always very clean and tidy .Besides a choice of 3 different meats - you can have a piece of all three--and in addition there is a wonderful selection of different potatoes, and vegetables. There is a good selection of drinks available from the waiters/waitresses. Although outside the hotel there is a large banner claiming ( probably quite rightly) that it is Ayrshire's best carvery, the banner says it is from 12noon -8.30 . However we have discovered that the carvery is not actually available on Fridays or Saturdays. We have always found the meals to be excellent value for money, but on our visit on Monday this week we were a bit taken aback to find that we had been charged rather more than on previous visits. When we got home we looked up the web site and found that they mention what we had been paying for months. So yesterday morning I phoned the hotel and asked when the prices had gone up. The receptionist told me they had not gone up, so I said about what we had been charged . She then went and asked her boss, and came back saying they had gone up on Monday. And when I said that the web site was showing the previous charges , she said that would be changed that day. However as of today the previous prices are still listed. I fully understand that in life things have to go up in price occasionally, but an increase of EXACTLY 14.3% to me is surely just a bit over the top! Anyway we will still be going back as the carvery meals at the Carlton are still good , but the value for money is a wee bit not so good as previously. The quality, and variety, of the food and the courtesy of all the staff , together with the general ambiance of the place is 'second to none'.

Very good carvery. Unfortunately staff started cleaning the restaurant before we had finished our meal. Sprayed liquid cleaner - allergic. Had to leave.
