Called in here on a Saturday evening. Quite busy and a lively atmosphere Staff friendly and helpful but forgetful Menu not brilliant My partner wanted her usual Steak chips and trimmings. The trimmings offered here for the pricely sum of £15.99 was chips half a tomato onion rings and some rocket ???...no peas or mushrooms and no option to pay extra as a side dish. Whilst sat at out table in the conservatory I noticed the outside wall (see photos) Not sure how long it has been like this but children were walking and playing on and near it. It wasnt coned off or marked as a hazard in anyway so an accident waiting to happen Requires immeadiate attention.

Good place to eat at really affordable prices dogs are not only welcome inside and out but also loved by the staff and are welcomed every visit. Is accessible for people with mobility issues

Brilliant pub plenty of different beers

First time we've been here. Table booking was straightforward. Good allergy menu, with 2 of the 4 of us having gluten, dairy and chilli allergies. Then it started to go a little awry. Ordered main meals and starters, clarified with the staff we wanted starters before and not with main meals. However, out came the mains, I reminded the waitress about the starters, who came back and told us they'd missed this and so started to cook it. This came out after we'd finished mains. Could have been better but tbh, the staff remained polite throughout

A local pub but welcoming to all. The service is brilliant , the atmosphere for sporting events second to none. The food and beer selection is good and served very quickly. I highly recommend. A great team

Good food and selection of drinks

We called in for some dinner and both my wife and I had the Steak and Ale pie - it was fantastic! Proper pie with a crusty case and lots of meat in the filling. The veg was cooked to perfection and we loved our meal.

Always a fab experience when we visit the Carleton. Staff very friendly , food good value … love the small plates ! Beer garden fabulous , very doggy friendly pub and beer garden , loads of sport and events… just a great place really ! So lucky to have it as our local 💕

This is a fantastic family friendly Pub! Dog friendly, easy access for the disabled,great food, lovely staff, huge beer garden with outside TV screen for sporting events and a great selection of beers etc

Good pub food bit disappointed they do take blue light card but not on 2 for £14 menu should be on all if you add drinks on top it would make difference to the bill every little helps as the saying goes 😉

Always have a nice family meal at the Carleton. Food is good, portions are generous and very good value. Staff are friendly and professional.

I only went in for a drink but the place and people that worked there were really nice.

First time here and the food was lovely I had a mixed Grill and it was one of the best I have had and we will be definitely going back again 👍

I love The Carleton! I’m very lucky to have moved here recently and be able to call it my local. The owner and the staff are so friendly and clearly try really hard to be an active part of the local community, including hosting and sponsoring the local running club, Carleton Running Community. There seems to be regular entertainment, including occasional singers and twice weekly quizzes as well as plenty of sport on the multitude of screens. If you are a dog owner it’s a superb place to bring your pooch, snacks and clean up stations are readily available and dog meals are available to purchase. They also organise a dog walk at the end of each month. Decent prices on drinks, and always a good selection of rotating guest ales. And whilst the food is never going to set the world alight, it’s always well cooked in a timely manner, nicely presented, filling and good value. Overall, a chain pub that manages to feel like a welcoming local community establishment.

It was a first-time visit for food, and it will not be my last. Great food (no pics ). Don't normally have a pie meal when out, but it was gorgeous and the gravy 👌 "spot on" ! Nice atmosphere, busy, but it wasn't overly packed. Staff friendly and helpful. Definitely going back 😋😋

We have been a few times, food great and service is so friendly. There is a quiz, check with them for which days, make sure you book! Dog friendly too! Lovely pub.

A lovely versatile pub! Nothing but welcoming whether I’m passing by with the dog, coming in for some food with the family or calling in to watch the sport. Jodie and the team are super accommodating with supporting my love of the NFL on a Sunday evening and provide a great atmosphere at key events through the year. No 1 Pontefract pub.

Very chill and clean atmosphere 😎 £14.49 for two main meals (hunters chicken and pulled mushroom chilli) and £15.49 for the large mixed grill - very hearty, delicious and filling. Will definitely be visiting again to taste the rest of the menu!

Christmas platter was a joke £5 a head six of us only four sausage, four hash browns and tiny amounts of beans and egg not even enough to serve one person. Avoid in the future unless you like wasting money.

Lovely fresh food. Only gave 4 star due to the fact my chicken was pumped full of water and was soggy at the bottom... thr rest of the meal was lovely. Very friendly staff, and there wasn't a long wait for food. Staff were welcoming.

Consistently friendly and efficient service. Great for real ale. Food offers good value for money. Good beer garden and no smoking zone is a bonus. 6x real ales available and just had the best pint I've had in a long time.

Food was all excellent, the staff were very friendly and really looked after us. We are not local but have visited several times over the years and our experience has always been positive.

The food is fantastic, prices are very reasonable. Dog friendly too. The only slight minor fault would be service is on the slow side, they are very polite but maybe more staff on would be better

1st time here, was ok but unfortunately whilst we were having our meal 2 loud mouthed guy s couldn't put a sentence together without foul language, yes I know it's a pub but it was just a bit much , we will visit again as the beer was perfect

Love this place! Staff are approachable and polite. Pub really geared towards our 4 legged friends. A real anchor of the community with clear signage of events and promotions. Really good food, hot and tasty. Pub very clean. Bonus basket in ladies bathroom is a really nice touch and thoughtful ❤️

Went for quiz night as a non regular and was very welcomed by all staff. Furry friends are welcomed as well which was added bonus. Good atmosphere.

Long wait considering not massively busy. Half the menu not available. Cold chips, embarrassing Hunters chicken, no filling in pie, 2 pieces of brocoli as veg, wiltered lettuce. Would not come here again if there was a free 3 course meal on offer

It's mid afternoon when I call so not sure what it's like at other times. Staff are friendly and the food is generally good (but not had the katsu curry available on a couple of occasions). The pub is dog friendly, which is one of the reasons why I like it, and treats are sometimes available for your pet. A selection of hand pulled ales as well as some craft beers and the usual fair of lagers are also available. Outside is a large spacious area with a large screen, which I presume shows sport at the weekends and other major events.

Complete rip off, no filling in the pies, was expecting a family pub meal summer treat...went home hungry. They did not charge us for the rubbish food but that is not the point!! avoid if you like nice food

We didn't order food so I can't rate on this, however we came for the pub quiz on 17/07/2023 and I can not say much good. Staff were friendly enough, however prices for the edge of a small town were closer to those you would find in a city centre. After being stood at the bar and being overlooked for 2 or 3 other new people at the bar before being served, we ordered drinks on the app and after waiting almost 30 minutes we went to find out where they were to be told "we are just doing yours now".picture below shows the state of the bar when we asked where our drinks were. At this time it seemed 1 person was running the quiz (over an hour after the advertised start) 1 member of staff was talking to locals and another was walking around the pub. Not sure I'll be returning any time soon!

Had a fantastic night at The Caleton pub at their first ever Pride Event!! What an amazing atmosphere, great crowd, really friendly and the food was really tasty!! Brilliant venue, will definitely be returning! Staff are wonderful!

Great pub, great staff and great atmosphere. I had to work from here recently and was impressed at the choice or food and drink and the friendliness of the staff. They helped me find a spot out of the way so I could get on with work whilst at the same time made me feel incredibly welcome.

It's a nice place but I don't think food is value for money

Called in for lunch tried a pensioner's lunch offer incredible value 2 courses for £6.99 it was 3 courses for £7.99 I had fish and chips with crumble and custard and my wife had hunter's chicken and a brownie with cream the food was very good and the staff were super friendly . We will definitely call again

It’s a fun, well run establishment, Quiz nights twice a week with The QUIZ Master, monthly Dog walks, regular fundraising for MacMillan and Pontefract Dog Rescue, having there first Pride of Ponte 🌈 event this year, they are constantly thinking of ‘what to do next’, they are a friendly, very hard working team that sadly have to deal with undesirables that disrespect them and the building and grounds, keep it up, you’re all awesome!. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Just a quiet afternoon drink, but the weather made it. A really enjoyable stop-off in a decent outdoor area!

Ordered scampi. Took a long time considering how quiet it was. Received 9 scampi, a handful of chips and 2 tablespoons of cold mushy peas. Accompanied by enough tartar sauce for 4 scampi. Not cheap either. When the food arrived the waitress sent me to the other side of the pub for cutlery?!! When they took the plates didn't even ask how the food was. Presumably she already knew. Definitely will not return.

The ideal place to stop after we diverted off the A1 to avoid roadworks. Great range of food for special diets and an absolute haven for dogs!

Good food and friendly staff. Quiz night Thursdays. Just had dinner there. I had chicken, bacon, avocado with salad 🥗 and as always it was delicious. My husband had roast beef and Yorkshire pudding and, he enjoyed his too.

Lovely pub. However ruined by the rudeness and ill-mannered disrespect from one of the members of staff. Believe to be the land lady (jodie). Countless times she’s been rude to me and my friends for no reason whatsoever.

We had a Mother’s Day meal this year, the food was really poor, the place wasn’t that busy either so can’t excuse it. Menu poor, not a lot to choose from, food basic. Can get better food elsewhere for similar price.

Left a 4 star review last time as we enjoyed coming here for a drink and to relax. We decided that we would have Sunday lunch, which we were looking forward to, big mistake. Food was dry and almost inedible, there is no way we will eat here again. This maybe a one off, but it is a one off too many for me as we paid 12 quid for each meal. When asked by the staff how our meal was we told them, there just seemed to be an air of disinterest. We will come back for drinks but never to eat.

Went to the Superbowl evening last weekend. Atmosphere was great. Food was lovely. Great selection of beer and the staff were fantastic!!! Very accomdating with the coffee as it was a late one. Couldn't recommend any higher.

They reserve most of there tables very early leaving customers hardly any choices in where to sit. Staff not polite very abrupt. Back to rustic next week managers are excellent, food lovely, staff very friendly and make you feel welcome.

Sister and I did sharing plates, chicken in tacos was grey but rest was delicious especially baobab buns mmmm
