If you have ever wondered what a sewage processing station would smell like if it was bombed with weapons of mass destruction made by Lush, then this is the place for you. About 5 meters through the doors you get the first taste of the delight that awaits you. As you edge closer to Burger King and KFC the sewage odour delights the senses further. If you are brave enough to eat in you can enjoy this enduring odour the the whole of your meal. As 'customers' to the facilities enter and leave the draw with them the heady mix of hot sewage and cheap air freshener with them. Should you venture into the toilets themselves the lungs of a free diver would ease the discomfort you are about to encounter. As you enter the gents toilets the inescapable odour will catch you off guard if you are not careful. The frantic hunt for a clean cubicle only makes the situation more desperate. Small sharp breaths is the only way to avoid retching. I have visited these services many times over the years. They always have an odour but none as bad as it has been over the last few months. It truly has become a grim and rather unpleasant stop off along the M4. I would recommend holding on a few more miles and using the services at junc 34 instead. As for the food offerings. KFC are always slow service food fine, Burger King hit and miss food fine. A good selection of Scaffolders laptops if that is you thing.

Popped in on the way to Brecon, toilet stovp and food. BK had just launched vegan Royale and therefore not on the screen. We were served by the true prince of Wales Callum. Not only was he polite he was a fantastic asset to BK and Wales. He advised us that the plant based whopper was not completely Vegan due to cooking methods and that the ideal choice for my partner would be the Vegan Royale. Served up piping hot, fantastic portion size and offer of condiments. Best BK we've had!. Thanks Callum, very much appreciated

Only popped in to Waitrose for a sandwich on Sept 2nd - but as always the staff here were lovely. Makes paying over the odds at a services a little bit easier!!

This is by far the dirtiest service station I have ever been in and I visit many. I went in 8 toilet cubicles before one was useable and even that had sanitary wear bursting out of the bins. Avoid!

Staff was rude, food was extremely greasy and slapped together! They kindly gave one straw.. no napkins no sporks.. paid for sauce and didn’t receive them.. will never eat here again

A quite tightly packed services with some tight parking. It seemed quite busy and has a few outlets within it.

On entering the building there was a strong toilet smell even though the toilets are situated at the rear of the building. The service in Starbucks was less than acceptable. Communication very poor. Milk was not available to help oneself (probably due to current COVID situation which is fair enough) but member of staff was most unhelpful when I asked for some. Parked in disabled area. Looking above to where pigeons were roosting and it was spattered with poo all over the Waitrose sign. Undoubtedly no effort had been made to clean for many months. Before COVID we regularly used this facility to break our journey. Today was the last time

You can take this junction to enter Cardiff and avoid traffic. Good services with no steps or long walks for older or younger travellers. Recommended.

In need of a coffee break today we tuned off M4 west J 30 into the Welcome Break services. We were towing a caravan so followed the directions which turned us into what can only be described as a loading area for Waitrose and W H Smith. It was full of HGVs trying to turn around in an area far too small for them. We could not park anywhere that would have been safe so were forced to drive out and back onto the motorway. This has to be the worst ever services for caravans that I have ever visited.

Joined PureGym Cardiff Gate one month ago cancelled it after 3 weeks done a review after that their first week saying internet was bad the overall cleanliness of the gym was good after 3 weeks I am going to reassess what I said internet still never worked I asked several PTS to help me all said the the same to me it's no good good the pt's got no time for you unless you are paying them they got two toilets in the men's toilets which is ridiculous one of them was broke 4 two weeks it is the main reason why I left in the changing rooms they got basically 100 lockers I'm not sure really how many and we got about 5 benches going round the lockers you got no room to get changed if you go in the middle of the day I would think it would be ok but you go go in the morning or in the evening it's ridiculous all you got to do is put your clothes on the floor and try to get changed without touching anybody else worst aspect of the gym inside the gym air conditioning really nice could be a real good gym if a few minor problems was done

expensive, exploits the customers to death. Y'know the usual type of service stations that like to make as much money as possible for as little service as possible. Toilets don't seem to have been cleaned er....ever! Costa drinks are a pot luck experience. Never know what your gonna get Little choice and busy at best. I could go on but to be honest I've said enough. Don't stop here.

Decent starbucks but expensive. As always the fruit toast is lush. Decent coffee. This is a nice little services just off the M4

Last night we popped into Cardiff Gate service station whilst travelling from London to West Wales. First time we used this service station. It is just off the M4 very clean and tidy plus it has all the amenities but smaller than you normal motorway service station. This is a great place to stop with plenty of choice of eateries etc.

Ok not bad drinks but coustomers being served and eating drinking in pajamas /night ware gravy was hard to come by a race for it. And staff that don't know you are there.

Called in here for a pit stop refreshing break. The person on the till didn’t seem to know what was the on the order board and questioned my order he seemed very unsure. Consequently the coffee I received was not like any other I’ve had in all my years of going to Starbucks. I ordered a Caramel Macchiato it was so bitter I couldn’t drink it. Do caramel macchiato differ so much between Trostre, Swansea and Cardiff or are the staff dithery and not trained to understand the goods they are serving.

Visit Cardiff gate and Tesco Costa cafe no white toast ?? very unhappy see no white toast enjoyed that for my morning break with coffee after heavy shopping. Wanted to relax there cannot have brown bread allergy to wheat.

Paré aquí para tomar un café. Todo sobre estos servicios es un poco pequeño, así que prepárate para hacer cola. El aparcamiento es un poco estrecho, y hubo una larga espera para Starbucks a pesar de que eran solo las 10 a.m. y no un día particularmente ocupado. Es mejor detenerse antes o después.

Do yourself a favor and either stop at Cardiff West or Magor - compared to those this is dated with very limited facilties

Este es un pequeño servicio justo al lado de la ruta principal al oeste después de Newport y me pareció perfectamente bueno. Fácil estacionamiento y una selección de comidas rápidas. ¡también hay un pequeño Waitrose vendiendo comida y flores!

Fui a kfc ya que me estaba quedando en el hotel ibis no estaba ocupado el personal podría haber sido más feliz comida ordenada volvieron a las fichas del hotel estaban frías y pollo muy grasoso no comestible coca cola estaba bien pero no puedes meter coca cola probablemente lo siento definitivamente el peor kfc que he visitado

This is an apology for a service area. There is little room to park, and it is crammed into an industrial estate. The service building is actually not bad inside, but this place should be abandoned - there are much better nearby areas.

Never been into such disgusting toilets at a service startup. For welcome break to put their name on this place I must assumed their quality or managment team have never visited. Toilets clearly have not been cleaned in weeks Will never go back

Este es un terrible lugar para tomarse un descanso. Los aseos son muy pobres, en encontrar un váter limpio no encontré un lick en la puerta! Los aseos no estaban un poco sucias estaban sucios. Sólo hay un secador de mano, así que en el lavado de manos que goteo a lo largo de toda a la entrada para llegar a la única secadora. El agua goteaba en el piso era letal. Lo reporté a un miembro del personal que no parecen entender el problema.

Qué experiencia tan maravillosa que tuvimos aquí cuando paramos en nuestro camino de unas vacaciones en familia. Después de un agotador 4 hora en coche y 2 bajo 6 años irritable fue refrescante tener una fantástica bienvenida aquí. El personal excelente y muy servicial. Y el administrador del sitio incluso paró e hizo que mi reír gruñón. El servicio era rápido y los inodoros y las instalaciones estaban limpias y ordenadas. 5 estrellas de la Familia Thomas ☺

We stopped at the Welcome Break Cardiff Gate for a coffee in Starbucks which was fine, but I have never been in toilets that were so filthy and looked like they hadn't been cleaned in months. There was thick dust on the toilet roll dispensers, dirt on the back of the toilet, hairballs on the floor and mould all round the washbasins. They really were disgusting. I totally agree with the other reviews - do not stop here if you need the toilet - Keep Driving, there are more services not far away!!

Yo no era consciente de que aún existían lugares como este!!! Era como un mal recuerdo de los años 80, y sucio! Es tan difícil explicar lo horrible que fue, y toda la zona de los retretes públicos olía y todos los diversos aromas que llenan el aire con orina, pero principalmente!

Bien vale la pena el viaje. Buena comida pasada de moda que te llenará para el evento del día.

En un largo viaje nos detuvimos para alimentar a nuestro hijo y comer. La comida fría era una cuestión pero nos cambiaron el pañuelo de bebé en el aparcamiento que los baños estaban sucias. El tipo de lugar que necesita para lavarse las manos tras tocar los grifos, etc. , la comida zonas estaban sucias con comida e incluso las mesas limpiado necesitaba otra toalla. Los baños estaban viejas y desgastadas.

Llamamos en el camino a casa ya que todos necesitamos usar el retrete. Una vez vi Burger King y Starbucks yo sabía lo que fue la casa. Waitrose es una buena adición aquí también, ya que pude conseguir todas mis cosas esenciales ( pan y leche) en el camino a casa. Starbucks era el habitual, pero nunca puedo terminar una pequeña taza de café con leche. Burger King era agradable y llenó el vacío! la autopista es una estación de servicio. Es tan bueno como es posible.

After travelling for nearly 4 hours, we wanted to stop and have breakfast. 3 adults and 2 very young children. At 10.00 am, there was only Starbucks and Burger King open, KFC was closed. Not a great choice, would have liked a cafe or something not burger chains!! So we ordered a breakfast muffin from Burger King and it was disgraceful! A tiny, flat, dry bun with half a rasher of bacon cut into 4 pieces!! I wish I took a photo! It was the worst thing I have ever ordered and paid for!! I think Cardiff Gate, Welcome Break is absolute rubbish. If you see it just drive passed it! There will a bigger better services 2 miles further up the road

Stopped here on my way to Reading. Found the toilets clean and the staff were very friendly. The coffee was good. Will stop here again in the future. .

First time visit my husband is disabled and was walking very slowly to toilets and was immediatly asked did he need a wheelchair first time ever have we experienced this also staff were very friendly and helpful while eating at KFC which he had to eat for medicine perposes they could not have been more helpful was impressed

Popped in for a quick bite at lunchtime - first visit to this Macdonalds so expected the usual rushed staff etc. Greeted by delightful young lady (sorry, forgot her name) really smiley and friendly. Food was pretty much what you see is what you get but fine. Coffee was excellent.As I was getting ready to leave the cleaning lady offered to remove my tray with a, "Can I take that for you?" with a friendly smile. So.... why am I posting about this Macdonalds? - because the staff were so nice and that isn't always the case.

We are often heading over to wales for weekend breaks and stop at Cardiff Gate as it's a mid-way point. Normally its pretty average service etc, however most recently we visited and wanting our morning Coffee stopped at the Costa. We were greeted by an unfriendly, rude and also quite disrespectful member of staff if I remember correctly I think his name was Saf . He didn't really want to talk to us let alone get us a coffee. It was funny as a couple of customers later he was obviously serving some sort of manager for the site and it was like he was a totally different person smiling,joking and making conversation. Not really the service attitude I would expect from someone who works at a global Brand such as Costa.

We called into this hole for a snack on our journey. We first called into the Waitrose for some sandwiches, there was a queue of seven people, one person operating the till (incompetently) whilst another member of staff stood next to her avoiding all eye contact with the poor wretches standing in the queue. At the same time there were at least two other members of staff playing match the food to the description on the shop floor.Having finally been served we went to Starbucks the famous UK tax-dodger to get something hot to drink. Yet again there was a huge queue and one person serving and making a complete hash of the simple task of making a cup of tea. In the meantime one member of staff indulged in the aforementioned pastime of avoiding all eye contact with the public whilst another strolled around the foyer on his mobile to his carer or something! When I finally was served she made a complete balls of making two teas. When they finally arrived I went to get milk and managed to squeeze the last few drops out of the flask and into the teas. I then took the empty flask to the counter to get it refilled, it was still standing there 30mins later when we left - how am I not surprised?Appalling services, appalling staff, appalling waste of time and money.

Tripadvisor demands a minimum of 100 characters in a review. I need just 5: D I R T Y. There are cleaner services on the M4 both East and West of Cardiff Gate. I'd recommend you stop there instead.

We stopped at Welcome break services at Cardiff gate, hungry and tired, making our way to Swansea never again.Given the reduced choice of most services we decided to go for KFC, not only was the staff remarkably slow, any slower would have come to a stop, they were miserable and unhelpful, to the point of filling the coffee cup to the brim with black coffee when asked for white, not a smidge of room for milk. Tables were dirty and uncleared.Other facilities may have been more helpful, but we didn't even bother to try. You would be better off travelling to next services and give this one a wide berth.

Title says it all really. I can echo the previous reviewer's comment about the lack of common sense and any other mental faculty from the staff here. The staff refused to supply any way to heat or prepare food for our 8 month old twins, saying it was against health and safety.We finally got some hot water from the Starbucks, only to overhear the staff slagging us off to the Burger King mob. When we tried to complain, the manager could not even be bothered to speak to us.The place wants burning down, preferably with the staff inside.

Absolutely disgusted as I went in with my family and my partner took our 16 month old son to change his nappy and the baby changing room nappy bin was overflowing with dirty nappies and when we all sat down to have a drink my son was just wondering around as he'd just been stuck in the back of the car for 3 hours and he saw the flashing lights in the fruit machine 18+ room and went in for a look as young kids do with bright flashing lights and his granddad also went In, to our surprise a member of staff then came in and asked for him to leave as he wasn't allowed in there!!!! I mean come on he's 16 months old, he's hardly goin to get his wallet out and gamble his 10p away is he, plus he can't read to see it said 18+ only!! I was not happy when told and to make things worse a group of 15-20 girls on a hen night walked in carrying alcohol and drinking and they were allowed to do so even though there is quite clearly a sign on the wall saying no alcoholic drink is allowed to be drunk or carried outside or on the premises but yet the member of staff who quite quickly banned my son from the games room was nowhere to be seen! I guess it's easier to tell a 16 month old to get out than it is a group of 15 or so girls drinking!!!! Avoid at all costs as no common sense Is used there!!!
