Excellent location and great, fresh food. Lovely. (Cover your food in case seagulls swoop to take it).

Located just near the beach, can either eat at the benches located outdoors or take away and eat at the beach just a few steps away soaking in the views and the sun if you’re lucky.

Sat outside, enjoyed the weather, loved the food, wish ketchup was included

Very friendly staff. The fish is great, the chips are amazing! I was a little concerned when I saw the food come out that there weren't many chips for the price, but the waiter informed us that there were free refills on the chips, so all was good!

I’m very picky when it come to give a 5* review but we were received perfectly and it was not only ourselves, I’ve look the staff being so dedicated to their customers in various way throughout our lunch. Please visit this place, it felt like there are still places that have family values and hospitality. Aside from that the fish& chips was great.

There was an initial slight hick up, but things got better from then on, we looked at the long waiting line outside, no one was there to invite us in, so we didn't know if the seating place inside was part of the place, it was totally empty, however, we entered and asked, a polite and friendly braided hair fella at the bar and he answered my questions and welcomed us to sit, took our order. The place was totally empty inside, but few minutes later, ppl realised they could sit inside and followed us inside, in minutes the place was buzzing, our order took a little long, we asked where's our food was, eventually an Italian fella apologised politely and explained that our order was given to another table by mistake, i appreciated the honesty, he said our food will be with us shortly! And indeed, we got our food in 5min after that, it was wonderful, fish was really really good, worth the wait! The people working there were very nice, a nice mix of ages and colours, and types, everyone was smiling and nice, it was such a pleasant experience all together and the ppl make all the difference. We were served by 3 people in total.. all were pleasant, even the fourth person a female who checked on us a few times and said good bye at the end was nice.. we will definitely return to this place!

Good tasty food. Places to sit inside and outdoor seating. Good portions, less than 5 min walk from the arcade on the pier but £2.50 cheaper than the fish and chips you can buy there.

Cod was superb and batter was great, crispy and light. Curry sauce goes well. Food took a little while but there is a delightful outdoor seating area on the beach and the ladies came to check on us several times

Amazing! We visited around 5pm on a Monday so not busy. The staff were welcoming and attentive. We both ordered the cod and chips. We're not fans of food served on wooden boards, and the chips were in a basket. Although plenty for me my husband looked horrified! However our server pointed out that chips had free refills, which he took full advantage of and they were happy to oblige. Absolutely delicious cod in crispy batter with a flavour I remember as a youngster. Highly recommended

Pam, made us feel right at home. 4 American girl's rocking up at 1130 am and first in the door 😂. Friendly staff, happy to chat to us yesterday. We were eating our way through Brighton, but Pam, topped up our chips so we were well and truly fed. We appreciate you Pam. Food very light, not greasy. Only downfall was a lot of drinks were sold out on Sunday. However, that shows the popularity of the place. Lovely staff 😊

Quite a tucked away venue but the staff are super helpful, the food is amazing and great value. Last time we came we did takeaway and it was great, ate in this time and was even more amazing.

I ate here during a half term trip after the aquarium. I had read the reviews before finding the restaurant. I'm glad to say that everything with our visit was great. The child size portion of fish for my twins was very generous and the food we all ate was lovely. We got extra chip top ups as well which was a nice surprise. Well worth the money. Gemma as well especially looked after us all and was chatty with us. Definitely would come back again. The only thing I would have liked as an option was perhaps having at least another fish option such as Haddock to eat.

We ate inside on their first day of reopening, and I must say, the food was impeccable, large portions and beautifully fresh. Captains must arguably be one of the best value for money establishments in Brighton. The staff were incredibly wonderful and attentive, they couldn’t have done any more if they tried! I couldn’t recommend this place more! If you’re looking for an authentic seaside restaurant (or take away option), don’t miss this one!

At first, I thought the service was good, but the items I ordered never arrived and were given to customers who came later. If you tell the waiter again, he will bring it now! However, after waiting for a while, it finally came out. Maybe it's popular because they give away refills of chips, but personally I don't go there anymore.

If you’re looking for an authentic fish and chips experience, look no further than Captains! We shared a large cod and chips between the two of us and that was more than enough. Good price for the portion size. Definitely will be returning!

It was alright. I would go here again, is right next to the sea life centre which is nice. But the price was a bit expensive I paid £54. I would rate it a solid 4 out of 5

Stopped for chips/curry sauce/gravy. Chips & curry sauce was average and gravy was weak. Near on £7 seemed a bit steep for chips & curry sauce. Also condements did not look that clean and topped up.

Exceptionally good fish and chips, cod was exactly as advertised! Large was large! And nice and thick, chips perfectly cooked I'd say, definitely the best I've had for a few years! And I've eaten in the best places!! Only downside, we were told we couldn't eat inside as it was busy? But we could see free tables? Therefore, we ordered 3 large cod and chips from the takeaway only to see a family leave the restaurant and then was told we couldn't go inside as the takeaway was a separate business?? But that said, it was definitely worth it

The atmosphere is nice, the store is spacious, the owner and clerks are friendly, and most of all, the fish and chips are really delicious!! Even though I hate fish cutlet, I enjoyed it. The batter is thin and crispy, and the cod fish itself is moist, soft, and so delicious! The menu is Captain’s Cod & chips. French fries are ordinary. After eating almost all of it, the owner came over and asked if the taste was good and if he would like some more fries. I asked and refilled it. For those of you who tried fish and chips in London and were disappointed, try fish and chips one more time in Brighton!!

This is the second time we’ve been, had dinner here with my sister, lovely Cod and Chips, had our dog with us and they were very accommodating. We had a lovely chat with the owner and the staff were amazing friendly people. Would definitely recommend this place!

One of the best battered fish I’ve ever had. Well presented and very filling. Came with tartar sauce and the waitress was fast, efficient, polite and came ready with our sauce caddy. Only gripe was the small portion of chips that cooled fast in the basket it came in but we were very full and the owner offered to give us more so it’s fine!! We appreciate it!

We waited for about 40 minutes for someone to take our order. After taking our order it took ages for our food to arrive. Our drinks came after our food. Fish was nice but chips were mediocre.

It was a cold Monday evening and we were in there for an early supper at 5pm. Service was quick, music was great and the food delicious. The fish was cooked beautifully. The chips were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside and not greasy at all, prepared and cooked fresh, not frozen. A great innovation was the free refill of the chips, saving waste. When other places have closed for the season, they were still open until 9pm. I highly recommend this restaurant

I'm visiting Brighton for the first time. Seems like it's kind of expected to have some fish & chips while in the UK, right? Glad I did. The portions were large and included more chips if you wanted them. I could barely finish what I had. It's a no frills place. Not fancy at all. But looked clean. Limited menu which is probably why it was so good. Nice waiter. Great lunch experience.

Superior Fish and Chips with a side of genuine hospitality I traveled from Colorado, USA to the London for work and I had the opportunity to bring along my father with me. He was born in the UK and as we were planning various things to do, he had reminisced about going down to the coast as a child to play in the arcades and eating the best fish and chips. As he was telling me about his childhood, I knew immediately I wanted to relive it with him. We were able to catch a quick train to Brighton from London and on the trip down I started to do my research on finding a great place to eat our lunch and landed on Captain’s. A great place right on the water by the pier. After my dad and I played in the arcade on the pier and bought Brighton Rock candy to enjoy on the trip back to London we headed over to Captain’s. As we walked in, we were happily greeted and brought to our table. We both ordered the Fish and Chip’s and I got an extra side of fried scampi. To drink, my dad got a coke and I went for the Brixton Brewery West Coast IPA. Our drinks came right away, and I have to say the Brixton IPA was great! This is coming from a guy living in Colorado beer country. After some chatting between my dad and I our cooked to order meal came out. The batter used at Captain’s is from a 35-year-old secret recipe and only the highest quality fish and locally sourced potatoes are used. I knew I was in for something good. As we took our first bites it was evident we found the right place. The fish was perfectly fried. The outside was crisp, not crunchy and the fish was tender, moist and delicious on the inside. The chips were cut the exact right length, fried golden brown with excellent crisp on the outside and the precise balance of fluffy on the inside. I was super happy about ordered the scampi too as that was a nice extra treat. We even got an extra basket of chips on the house to top us off! The wait staff and Pam were superb! All took the time to speak with us and really made this a great experience for me and my dad reliving his youth. I can understand why it was so memorable for him and now thanks to Captain’s and their crew it has become an everlasting memory for me too! I will be back with my children soon and highly recommend this great establishment. Cheers!

We enjoyed a fantastic fish and chips meal at Captain’s before heading to see Brighton Fc. The restaurant is perfectly located next to the pier/beach, the food is great and the service (especially from Pam) is welcoming and friendly - I would definitely recommend a visit.

We stumbled across this place and so glad we did. My husband & I agreed that this is by far, the best fish & chips we have ever tasted. The fish is unbelievably fresh, very generous portions & with refillable chips, ( which we didnt need)and not greasy which is usually the case with this type of food. The food is very well presented too. Honestly, this was a very pleasant end to our afternoon in Brighton & we will not hesitate to travel the one hour plus to eat here again. I have forgotten about the other places we have eaten at in the past during our trips to Brighton already! Well done to Pam & her team for making this place so remarkable and making it stand out from the rest, and for making us feel welcome with your excellent service. See you again soon
