Capels Fish & Chip in East Devon

Lovely fish and chips. Happy for my wife and I to share a meal.

Had a veggie burger and was offered no salad or ketchup and they wanted £1.50 to eat in. Used to be good place, not now. Wouldn't use again.

Food is delicious, with large portions. Went there twice whilst staying in Exmouth. Staff are friendly. Would have given full stars, but they got our order wrong both times. Not totally wrong, but both times, we asked for 2 jumbo battered sausage and chips (amongst other things) and received 2 UNbattered sausages and chips. The second time, we emphasised the 'BATTERED' and received 1 jumbo battered sausage and chips X 2. Like I said, it wasn't a major problem, but just check that the staff have understood. Was delicious. The fish was HUGE!!!.

Popped in on a whim and so glad we did - cooked to perfection with friendly service - best food so far in Exmouth!

It’s a standard fish & chips place. I would say that it was above average but I had better hence the 4 stars rating. I tried the Large cod with large chips and it was challenging to finish it all, though I am a heavy guy. I would recommend getting the medium cod.

Received home delivery of Fish and chips.This Cod was nice and fresh but the chips where a poor standard. Definitely old oil and old chips.I used to always come here before the closer. Not impressed at all. On the plus side it was delivered quickly.

These are the best fish and chips in Exmouth . Every time I go there the quality is the same, excellent, and the staff are very good. They have updated their restaurant to provide a better dining experience.

Went into this fish & chip shop we sat in as it was raining. So we order some food ( large fish and chips also homemade fish cake & chips also jumbo sausage and chips with two cup of tea. The food was amazing and worth the money for what we paid. The table services was brilliant and we didn't have to wait long for all are food and it was all freshly cooked

My mother in law is an OAP and as so had a OAP Cod & Chips. This was delicious and reasonably priced. The only complaint was that she couldn’t eat most of the chips as they were crispy and hard. If soft chips could be considered when preparing chips for OAP’s then this would be much appreciated. Otherwise brilliant !

This is a consistently great chip shop. The chips are cooked to perfection so that they’re crispy (never soggy!) which I really like. We always go to Capels for chips when we’re in Exmouth.

We popped in back in April as our two girls were ravenous. The lady that served us was absolutely fantastic with the girls, making sure they both had a drink (even though they were sharing a kids meal deal - they're only small and wouldn't eat a whole one each), gave them a lolly once they'd finished and was so helpful and friendly. The food was absolutely delicious...the girls asked if we could go back next time we are down so it must have been good! Would highly recommend and we will definitely be heading here for our chips next time we are down!

Haven’t received the food twice in a row now, calls haven’t been going through to my phone even though I’ve put my correct number in and no missed calls are coming through

Food was very good but missing mushy peas and curry sauce which was about £7, delivery was fast and professional.

had pie and chips with mushy peas and curry sauce also haddock and chips. All were really tasty...big shout out for the fabulous chips which were the best I've had in Exmouth.

Myself & 4 other ladies visited this establishment on Thursday 18th April, early evening, the food & service was second to none, service was outstanding, we were served by a lovely Bulgarian lady & she took the time to make sure we were well looked after & nothing was too much trouble. Fish & chips were excellent & best batter I have tasted in a long time. Will definitely be visiting here again on our next stay.

It was calm with people at other tables eating , Voices from outside as they passed the door , cars parked outside and deliverey person in and out with a food warmer bag , The mascot not there anymore as it had been vandalised by some youths and couldn't be repaired, My food was good , if nearby drop-in .

Great gluten free fish and chips. Great for people with coeliac disease as they have a separate fryer, utensils and prep area. Food wa delicious and batter was lovely and light

We always have fish and chips when on holiday and these were the best fish and chips we have ever had at home or on holiday, (SUPERB). A tip to the owners and staff : Just keep doing what you do !

Staying at Haven Devon cliffs, fish and chips are aways good here, ordered before last year and they meet me at the gate, really nice and a cheaper than on-site. The fish is so good and huge, lots of chips, thank you, see you next year

This is my favourite fish and chips in Exmouth. Freshly cooked and big fat chips -scientifically proven to be better for you as the surface area to volume means you ingest more potato and less cooking oil. Always good quality, reasonably priced with the advantage of dining in with tea or coffee. Recently refurbished which means more room, so you can bring the wife and kids to sit down and save on the washing-up.

Ordered online only half the order arrived Called them to resolve they said they would send missing items. Never arrived. Called again promised refund. No refund received. Will have to physically go to the shop to get my refund.

Disappointed with the cheesy chips and the gravy which was quite thick. The cheese was like a rubbery cheese and not proper grated cheese. Most disappointing as the food has always been fantastic

UPDATE: since writing this review the food has been amazing everytime we have ordered comes hot and fresh from delivery and tastes amazing defo my go to fish and chip shop Had on the 25th of febuary brought large fish and roll and chips and recieved fish and roll and no chips most expensive roll ever for £3.50 and on trying to contact shop no respponce just was ringing and ringing shamefull ruined dinner

No chips delivered with order called the shop and was told : “don’t worry you’ll get them “ no apologies 😡 chips delivered 20 minutes later,now the fish and mushy peas are cold 😡😡 open the chips and they looked like they were made hours ago and re-heated,…most of the chips are that hard and sharp they are inedible…😡😡😡 total waste of £23 ….terrible experience!!!

Collected my order last night approx 1930-1940hrs. No issue with the quality of the food, however there was a large cod missing from the order which was disappointing as I’d paid for my order and did not receive it in full.

Sausage, cod and chips all good. The children's cod was just scrag ends so not really very nice. Other than that they have a good range of items on the menu and a good selection if drinks.

Food was lovely, cod white and tasty and scampi beautiful. Fish in lovely light crispy batter and scampi done perfectly along with the chips. Highly recommend!!

The food I well cooked, always arrives hot and complete with sachets of salt and vinegar. Nine times out of ten it arrives early. The delivery drivers are always clean and tidy and wait for my husband, who has Parkinsons and is partially sighted, or me, 80 years old, to get to the door. It's our Saturday treat.
