We've eaten here several times and the food is consistently good. When they opened right next to mother popular Italian restaurant, we did question the wisdom but it really is in a different class. Fresh, authentic ingredients and a personal welcome.

Simplemente no te molestes.

After being recommended this place by friends, we thought we'd try it out.The service was surprisingly weak for a restaurant of such great potential. The location was superb-right next to the river and tucked away in a very lovely corner of Putney. This place promises so much, yet delivers on very few levels. Despite an interesting menu, it is too limited for a place that is not fine dining and is basically set out as an Italian laid back restaurant. However, despite the lovely explanations of aged balsamic and cured hams and superb buffalo mozzarella etc. etc., these guys forget about the fundamental necessity ....to serve good piping hot food and in a fun atmosphere. Instead, upon ordering one of their specials, the over enthusiastic staff proceeded to try and push us to buy wines and to give us too much in depth info about how great the quality of everything is.Cant fault them for that, but let the food and wine do the talking...Their chef is superb though, and his passion through the dishes comes through. But please, remedy your service, as this is a place i could visit weekly. All the best.

We really wanted this restaurant to succeed as we are locals. The first time I visited was at lunchtime and we had the most delicious home made vegetable soup. The restaurant was empty but the 3 of us enjoyed our meal. The next visit was a few months later in the evening to try their new pizza menu. It is a good idea for them to serve pizza as they are situated right next door to Carluccios who are very well established in this part of Putney and they need a point of difference. Pizzas were fine...

Booked here for my birthday and had a truly nice evening, from start to finish everything was perfect, you feel immediately very welcome, Domenico was really attentive and helpful, the pasta is homemade and perfectly cooked, good antipasti selection and generally very decent portions, this place will give Carluccio next door a really hard time, showing them once and for all what Italian food should look and taste like and what service is all about.

Caparossa is a truly authentic Neapolitan trattoria, from the selection of dishes on the menu, through the very high quality of the ingredients and their preparation, to the warm, professional service and the style and furnishing of the restaurant.

Visited with 3 mates on a Wednesday evening .Great location by the river in Putney .Authentic Italian decor , open and airy although not many diners. Food was ample and excellent -- this is NOT a pizza /pasta joint- go to Carluccios next door for that ! BUT it is genuine rustic Italian cuisine. The staff are friendly and helpful and the owner /chef is on hand too. Wine list extensive , well chosen and good value too. Will certainly return...

I'm lucky I only need to walk a few paces to enjoy the excellent food, wine and great service at Caparossa. Staff is so friendly, nothing is too much trouble and they all take great pride in what they do. Highlights for me are the steaks, and the dessert to die for is the rum baba. And it's great value for money. Atmosphere relaxed, family-style with a spotlessly clean open kitchen. A true delight.

We visited Caprossa for a lunchtime family meal, wanting to enjoy the sunshine by the Thames. We felt very welcomed and started to look through the (very sparse) menu - no salads, no pizza, limited pasta dishes - is this really an Italian? We moved on to order drinks, again to our surprise, no lemonade, no vodka, no Bier Moretti as advertised on the menu! So we settled for Peroni, served in a wine glass! 3 out of 5 were ordering from the lunchtime deal menu and 2 just mains. The waiter presented 3 Brushetta - an accurate description is two tiny pieces of toast with two (yes two whole!) cherry tomatoes, no oil, no onion, no garlic. the rest of the plate was filled with raw red cabbage, yum?! At the same time as the 3 starters, the two mains were bought out. We questionned why they weren't being served with the mains, to be told this is normal. One person on our table had ordered a steak and eaten the entire thing before they bought out any sides. The spagetti was not cooked - I've had plenty of al dente spagetti in Italy and this was just plain raw. I'd love to tell you the end of the experience but couldn't bear to see anyone awful food served so left the table to top up the parking. In total four groups of people sat down at the table next to us, looked thruogh the menu and walked out again. I'm still hoping someone is going to say this was a candid camera experience as, this really was the most unbelievably poor restaurant food, and service I have ever experienced in my life.

A hidden gem I love Italian cuisine by default, but the Neapolitan one is my all time favourite. At Caparossa, I found the most exquisite representation of it! I went with my husband, another foodie. Both very picky about restaurants, we have to admit that Caparossa is one of the best restaurant in town. They welcomed us with a smile, such a luxury nowadays, and showed appreciation for our patronage throughout the whole meal. The atmosphere was relaxed, but classy. The open kitchen is the main actor on the scene, sharply clean and with the state of the art machinery. We both thought: “These people know what they are doing!” What impressed us the most was the seasoning room, with Prosciutto and other cold cuts at sight just like an Italian charcuterie. We felt we just landed in Naples, such a mad but charming city! Once in the main dining area, we chose a central table with the full view on the most amazing wine cellar! They have wines from all over Italy, thoroughly described in the wine list. We went for an Aglianico from Mastroberardino, a great choice suggested from our host. After the welcoming freshly baked bread basket and bread sticks , we started with the antipasto tipico. It consisted of the sweetest 18month aged Parma ham we have ever had, mixed cheeses and a chickpea soup. With such a great start, we could not try the pasta. Paccheri Genovese and Fusilli al Ragu’. What a feast for the palate! Honestly, we could have tried the Fiorentina cut, but the host insisted we should share the English beef fillet . We both appreciated the suggestion as already felt very much fulfilled. It came with freshly cut fried potatoes. It melted in our mouths, so juicy and tender. The meal ended with the most exquisite desserts, torrone semifreddo and millefeuille with Bourbon vanilla cream. All the above accompanied by espresso and a glass of grappa moscato. When the bill arrived, we found they had not charged either the espresso or the service charge. When asking the host, he told us that the espressos were complementary and it was the restaurant policy not to add service charge banking on the customer satisfaction. After such a unique experience, we feel we ought to strongly suggest Caparossa for the courtesy of the staff, the very fine food and the genuine Italian atmosphere.

I picked Caparossa from an online list of recent openings in London. Vegetarians rarely go wrong in Italian restaurants so Caparossa, which opened in December 2011, seemed to be worth the effort of travelling to Putney (which is only 15 minutes from Waterloo) followed by a 10 minute walk). However, one problem with being new is building up a regular clientele and even on a Friday night I found myself heavily outnumbered by staff when I arrived at 7.15pm. By the end of the meal about 20 or more other diners had arrived but that still meant that the restaurant was only around 25% full.My fellow diner, now into his 82nd year, and I both found it hard to make ourselves understood. Not all the staff are fluent: it took two requests for butter and there were some tricky moments explaining that we wanted a glass of Prosecco to start with followed by a glass of white wine with the starter and a bottle of red with the main. The highlight of this linguistic impasse involved one of the waiters explaining to my colleague that he was looking at “the wine list”, something that we had worked out some time beforehand. The food and the wine, though, were all well worth the struggle. Homemade bread with olive oil (and eventually the butter) were very good and the Prosecco added to the good start to the dinner. My colleague thoroughly enjoyed what looked like the finest 'Prosciutto di Parma' (hung to mature for over 18 months) (£8.50) and he declared his 'Filetto ai vary pepi' (200g of English beef fillet with peppercorns tossed in black, white and green peppercorns) (£15.50) to be the best that he had tasted for ages and very good value indeed. My 'Formaggi misti' (mixed cheeses) (£8.00) made an interesting and satisfying starter and the 'Pasta e patate'
(a Neapolitan speciality - fresh pasta with potato, garlic, basil and celery) (£7.00) – almost a soup rather than a bowl of pasta – was rich and very tasty. Thin, biscuit-shaped chips were very moreish. The accompanying red wine, a Ravello from Campanula was a shot in the dark – the wine list is long, varied and full of interesting but rather rare (in London anyway) varieties.I don’t know how we found room for the desserts but millefeuille with Bourbon vanilla ice cream and black cherries (£6.50) and 'Caprese con mandorle e cioccolata e crema al pistachio'
(flourless ‘Caprese’ torte with chocolate and almonds and pistachio cream) (£6) both disappeared without trace. Coffee and delicious grappa Grappa di Pinot Nero (£4) made this an excellent dinner – one that we will both recall with warmth and a smile. We almost left without leaving a well-deserved tip and had to ask whether service was included. Bizzarely there is no mention on the menu or the bill that it is not and one wonders how many diners ventured into the cold winter air blissfully ignorant that they denying the staff what was rightfully theirs. Such was the novelty, seemingly, that the owner held up the tip to his kitchen staff in exultation. I have never seen anything like it in my life.Caparossa comes over as a quirky and curiously run restaurant in a slightly obscure location which can deliver outstanding authentic Italian cooking complimented by superb wines and grappa that can warm the cockles of your heart.

. . ¡safari!

Five of us here on a beautiful summer evening. We sat outside, which was delightful. The staff were really pleasant, the food was quite excellent. The service was really terrible, however. They took our drinks order immediately after we sat down at which time we ordered garlic bread for the table to share. They had lychee juice on the menu, which two of the children ordered. Not available. After being at the table for 25 mins. I went inside and asked if someone could take our food order. As they took the order we reminded them that my wife’s glass of wine had not arrived. We order some starters to share and, when these arrived, the waiter told us he had forgotten our garlic bread as he had ‘been distracted’. Main courses arrived 65 mins. after we sat down, which was simply too long - they seemed to be concentrating on the steady stream of Deliveroo/Just Eat riders. Won’t be rushing back.
