I visited here with my mum who is in a wheelchair. The staff were really helpful finding us a suitable table. It was very busy. The food and coffee were lovely, even my mum agreed (which is a big ask,my mum never likes anything 😁). The ladies work really hard and are very friendly. The atmosphere is lovely. I will definitely recommend to friends.

My first introduction to Staffordshire oatcakes! (Not to be confused with Scottish ones). Delicious: I would recommend a visit just for those! Everything we ordered was delicious but even so we got food envy looking at the dishes being delivered to other customers. The staff were friendly and efficient.

Disappointed. We have been here several times before but this time felt let down. The coffees were served over 20 minutes before our food was ready so we’d nearly finished them. We both had paninis and both were burnt and hard. I ordered goats cheese with caramelised onion but it was the other way round with hardly any goats cheese and lots of onion. The waitress didn’t know how to smile and when I asked for the serviettes she just pointed to where they were rather than offer to get me some (they weren’t busy)!

It’s a shame that there is a £5 minimum charge at this cafe. After my walk around the lake I went in and was ignored at the counter and then after ordering a flat white was told of the minimum charge. I’m fairly sure it doesn’t cost £2 to take payment from card these days and it doesn’t happen in other cafes I visit. Surely it’s better to take £3 than nothing at all.

When visiting Trentham I visited this lovely cafe with a friend for food and warm drinks. The service was very good and the table cleaned before we were served. My friend loves her coffee and commented this was one of the best that she had tasted. The lad who served us was new to the cafe and he was most professional.. Will certainly visit again and recommend...

Very disappointed with our visit to Capabilitea. When you visit Threntham you have a vast choice of places to eat and drink but this place sadly, is below par. The tables weren’t cleaned off quickly and on a very rainy miserable day, it wasn’t busy enough to excuse this. I was ignored at the counter at first by a girl doing something else for too long and a ‘hi, I won’t be a minute’ was all that was required. A bubbly blonde girl took my order but informed me that my panini choice of mozzarella, tomato and pesto wasn’t available as they had no tomatoes. Not great but ordered something else instead then on sitting down saw on the receipt that next to the Paninis it said ‘no salad’. When our drinks were brought over I questioned why it said no salad and was told they didn’t have any. I wasn’t told this at the till, the price was still the expensive same and I politely and cheekily asked if they’d put on a few crisps instead. Apparently no as the two sad looking lonely on their plates Paninis were brought over to us. They were hot, they were nice enough but I felt ripped off. I would suggest to stop customers leaving with a bad taste in their mouths, get a member of staff to run out and pick up some salad, inform the customers you haven’t got the ingredients when ordering, charge a little less or open a bag of crisps and throw a few of them onto the plates. It’s basic obvious customer service. People have choices of where to go, you are expensive or as expensive as other places who take more care. And take down the silly chalk signs saying all sandwiches, Paninis etc come with our daily fresh side salad if you haven’t got any. Wouldn’t recommend and wouldn’t return

Visit Trentham weekly and always stop for coffee after our walk around the lake, decided to visit this cafe as not tried before, ordered 3 drinks and a piece of cake for my grandaughter, firstly i thought the cake was very overpriced at £4.50, we took our seats at a table that had not been cleaned, after a long wait a very steely waitress put 3 coffees down on our table we explained they were not our drinks but to no avail untill the table behind said that the order was theirs drinks taken to next table without a wordor a smile. Waited again, eventually our correct drinks arrived we pointed out we had also ordered cake the waitress just looked at us and walked away...no comment still no smile, when we had nearly finished our drinks i went back to the counter to enquire about my Grandaughters cake that she had patiently waited for, about 5 staff but for a while i seemed to be invisible finally the waitress came to me and when i asked about the cake she told me i would have to show my reciept to prove i had paid for it , dont normally have a reciept but luckily this time i had, first thing on my reciept 1 cake slice £4 .50, no apology and still no smile, cake eventually arrived at table as we had long finished our drinks and yet again no apology and not even a glimmer of a smile. Needless to say we will not return .

Called in today about 2pm a lot of vacant tables were full of dirty cups, plates etc so not many tables available. We sat on the end of one of the two large tables and ordered tea cakes & pot of tea.We had to wait quite a long time but the tea was piping hot & teacakes nice so that was ok. What put us off was the young lady with the huge false eyelashes sectioned half the room off with chairs & yellow warning signs….and we were in that section. She took a long time clearing the mountain of crockery etc & didn’t look happy when a couple came in and asked for one of the now clean tables. She said there wasn’t one available & they walked out in to rain. Everyone looked shocked at that.Maybe she wanted to get away quick at the end of the day but we felt sorry for this couple.Don’t think she owns the business as she wouldn’t turn people away then. When it was time to go we had to move furniture to get to the door as the other door was closed and the outdoor chairs placed across Food ok , staff not so I’m afraid.

Could be so much better with little effort. Tables need to be cleared quickly. The salad needs to have a dressing or be left off. A slice of iceberg lettuce and a couple of slices of tomato makes it look like school dinners. It was busy when we visited and the toastie we had was fine.

Although we often use this cafe when visiting Italian gardens , we was a little disappointed this time … seems a bit grubby now , floor sticky and a bit run down … time for a bit of decor refresh I think . Food was nice as usual , and although I don’t usually like to mention faults I feel they do need to know this time . When we entered we were spoken to by a lady ( older than the other staff , very polite and never stopped pottering about and so on all the time we visited , but I must say there were 2 girls in question, one that was quite done up with make up ( which is nice appearance is cared about ) but she just hung around the till playing with her hair and lick stick and didn’t like to get her hands dirty really , even when it went a bit quiet on counter so didn’t clear tables or stay busy , in fact at one stage she just plonked herself in middle of floor behind counter on stool and sat there , very strange place to sit , especially when tables were dirty and also the other girl long hair glasses I think maybe dark skinned ( hope that don’t offend ) also stood about while 3 tables needed cleaning. Eventually the girl did Clear one reluctantly, maybe she felt it’s always her job and gets fed up , but It wasn’t a good look for people looking for seats when tables were like that. Maybe it’s best to all muck in and help each other as after all it’s team work , and the girl on the griddle / hot plate never stopped . Sorry for the moan but it’s such a nice place and one that’s been there for a lot of years that it’s a shame it’s gone grubby and untidy . I will try again in summer to see if this review has made a difference, but I must say I did over hear someone else mention grubby floor … maybe it needs a degreaser and deep clean rather than just a soapy mop….. sorry but sometimes it’s better for business when you have a few pointers from the outside .

Hoping for oatcakes as visiting with friend from outside the area and looking forward to her trying them. Told wait would be 25 minutes?? (cafe not particularly busy) so opted for cup of tea and scone instead. That was fine but friend's clotted cream was inedible (half frozen) so had to be replaced and lady at another table had to return her food, saying it was inedible and 'off.' So poor experience. Staff on table service good but the owner? (the lady behind the till when we arrived who seemed to be in charge), was extremely rude. Completely ignored us for 4 minutes (no little gesture or looking up to say, I'm sorry I'll be with you in a minute) She completed her task at the till, never looked at us and then walked away.... So a poor experience. Has this cafe changed owners? I have been here before and the experience was pleasant. I won't be recommending it.

This is my updated review as I believe Capabiliteas has improved a lot since my previous review. I always have a drink (Tea or Coffee) and one of the amazing cakes on offer. 99% of the time, these have been amazing. Only once was the cake a little dry, but I really can't complain about it. Drinks are always first rate and the staff are now MUCH better. However, my original gripe is still there - there still needs to be a price list for the cakes on display, so please fix this. Otherwise - great, I can highly recommend here.

We came in for a quick bit of lunch and a drink. Teacups, saucers and teaspoons were delivered to our table dirty to the point of being covered in tuna. Cutlery was already out on the table in a jug - perhaps acceptable before but not during a pandemic. The table hadn't been cleaned before we sat down. The food was nice, the poor hygiene was just really off-putting.

Extremely slow service, filthy cutlery and then they messed up the order. I ordered a veg friendly panini and when it finally arrived after a 30 minute wait I returned the cutlery because it was disgustingly filthy.... then I realised the panini had chicken in it! A further wait of 30 minutes for the food to be replaced just exacerbated the awful experience...... out of 10, I give them minus 10.

Good layout under the circumstances and very appealing inside. Not especially friendly. Scone was lovely but the equivalent of a small teaspoon of clotted cream wasn't anywhere near enough for half a scone never mind a full one...mean. The reason for my low rating is simply because we couldn't get a sandwich at 2.50pm!!! While we there a group of four and a group of three left because they wanted sandwiches...so potentially £60 walked out the door, not great business sense. Perhaps you should consider 'Afternoon Tea'

I'll preface this by saying I've never left a bad review for anywhere. This was without doubt the worst service I've ever encountered. My wife and I drove a way here, we were both gagging for a drink so we thought we would grab a quick 'cuppa' tea.. well that was our first mistake. The place looks perfectly nice on the outside but when we went in we were unsure whether we were allowed to sit down so thought we would wait for one of the delightful staff to welcome us graciously into the cafe and tell us where to sit.. fat chance of that. We stood at the counter where 3 staff were 'busying' themselves in the background. I use inverted commas as there were relatively few customers. One of the waiting staff walked straight past us twice without even aknowledging we were there. It took my wife to tentatively ask if we might sit down, before the same staff member explained we could sit anywhere, without any explanation of whether they would take our drinks. After sitting down for 20 minutes without anyone again even aknowledging us or explaining they would be 'with us in a minute' we gave it up as a bad job.

Food came, bacon hardly cooked. I did complain and was treated with contempt by being told “that’s just the way it is”. I asked for just a cheese oatcake. It came and had been microwaved so much the oatcake was like cardboard. There was a salad thrown next to it. I had ordered two mince pies but they didn’t come and had to ask again. Apart from one person, staff were sullen and unhelpful. First and last time I’ll be going. It could also do with a good clean

Visited early afternoon on entering we entered the game of finding a table. No , not with people dining as it was relatively empty but nobody has cleared any tables. We pushed the dirty cups etc to one side and I then went to the counter to order. Two of the young ladies were talking and eventually one young lady after trying to master a calculator on a previous invoice served me. I ordered two teas and two tea cakes that arrived shortly after ordering. With regards to Health and hygiene she was wearing vinyl gloves but she was taking money and handling food with the same and this defeats the object of wearing gloves. Secondly as I turn round she is eating a large piece of cake off the preparation counter. I respectfully suggest the management/owners install some Basic food training.

Love the gardens and was so looking forward to having a cake and a cup of tea. There were 5 staff yet they were sorting some cupboards out on the main table that you would sit (why you would choose to do this on a Saturday is beyond me!) By the time the tea arrived, we had both finished eating our cake. This is either a staff training issue or they need to hire older more experienced staff. I feel this is a real shame as there is potential but this is not the standard of the gardens and in no way compares to other local places that provide this type of food.

We visited here today, late morning, for a coffee. The place looks pretty and inviting, which is why we chose it, but it rapidly lost it's appeal. We ordered four hot drinks and went to sit down. We had to clear our own table as it was covered with dirty dishes (we placed these on the next table where they remained for the whole time we were there). After 15 mins we had to chase up our order, apparently we were now second in line. After another 10 mins or so we chased them up again and were told that we had been informed that there would be a delay - we hadn't. Finally after approx 30 mins our coffees were plonked down by a moody faced young lady, with no apology for the delay.

We are quite regular visitors to this cafe and have been for years. However we have to give it a break sometimes because of the relatively poor service. We went today and it was being run by young staff who didn’t have a clue. As we have noticed before, they are not taking dishes away and don’t even think to wipe the table. They got my order wrong and insisted I had ordered the 3 drinks they brought over. I had paid by card and one girl said we’ll refund you but it has to be in cash. Fair enough. So then they realise there’s a mix up with th table numbers and another table had ordered those drinks. The poor people at table 6 had their cakes brought over (originally to our table) then had to wait ages for their drinks. I had to explain to the staff that the drinks brought to us should have gone to table 6! The staff were bickering about the orders at the till and saying stuff like “they definitely ordered an Americano etc” making out I was wrong when it was their mistake. Even when they realised they weren’t anxious to apologise. I got a sorry off one of them but not the one who took the order. There are feedback forms on the tables but I know they have been there for months and they obviously don’t take any notice of them. I noticed the other table filled their’s in and they thanked me for sorting their drinks out! Such a shame because this is a nice cafe but they’ve got new customers coming in all the time as it’s such a busy popular shopping area but they really need to learn some customer service and organisation. It frustrates the hell out of me! Sort yourselves out Capabilities!!!

Just in the area so we thought we would have a look round - not been there for a number of years. Spotted this cafe as somewhere for lunch. Hadn't planned anything so no pre-TripAdvisor homework !

So visited the above tea room, for the first time today and wasn't disappointed. Was visiting Alton Towers Water Park, and then afterwards went to Trentham Shopping Village, and came across this lovely little tea room. Wonderful place, lovely fresh food. both savoury and sweet, and lovely staff too. Will definitely recommend and return thank you to all staff for a lovely experience

We entered and every single table was filthy and full of plates while one girl that was tidying up just stood staring at the table full picking her nails all over the table! It took her 15 mins to clear 4 plates off a table as she just stood and stared at them. Then she kept coming to our table when we were trying eat to put a dirty basket on to fill the cutlery never know a staff member so useless a think a chocolate teapot would of been more use. But cake and hot choc was delicious just a little pricey

It's often crowded, and and the toilet is a bit basic, but you can't fault the food, and the tea comes in a proper pot with a proper china cup and saucer.

Came here last Christmas Eve and had a fabulous hour with great tea and cakes. Sadly that wasn’t to be the case today, managed to fine a table, I was told it would be cleared shortly, after 20 minutes of waiting I did it myself.

Nice enough cafe, we ordered tea, a chicken and ham panini and a bacon and stilton sandwich. Average food, the nicect thing was the dressing on the salad, mix and match crockery, staff polite, all in all, nothing special!

Lovely place for tea and cake. We use it as a base for our women's running club after the fun runs at Trentham Gardens. There can a big group of ladies in lycra and they have always been very helpful and accommodating. Well worth popping by! A little gem at Trentham Gardens!

We called here last week for an end-of-afternoon cuppa and cake and were not disappointed. There were 4 of us and we shared 2 cakes. The chocolate orange sponge cake was very moist and exceedingly yummy! We were able to have at least two cups of tea from the large pot brought to us. Would recommend.

Absolutely brilliant food and service. Myself and my partner came here on a Saturday evening. We were served by Paul the General Manager who was very attentive and did everything to make our evening perfect. Steak was cooked to perfection and my partner loved his mixed grill. Can't recommend this place enough. We have already booked again for the family to enjoy for my step daughters birthday meal.
