Overall, the food is good but overpriced for the quality offered. Poor variety of drinks, no draft beer for example (maybe because of COVID?). The place needs an update in terms of decor (looks a bit decayed for my taste) but it's not that urgent. The atmosphere is chill and the staff was nice.

Last came here in 1998, it was amazing, opulent, proper night out. Today I realise they’ve been trading on their reputation and not focusing on the food and experience. Decor in need of massive updating, felt like a canteen. Food, had to wait, when it came it was warm, not hot, warm food drives me mad. Quality of food was average at best. Staff was nice. The same for the Little Yang Sing which I went to 2 months ago, both restaurants with the original owner created great restaurants, but two decades later that vision and passion for food and experience wasn’t passed for the next generation. Why did I leave it 20years? Because I moved out of Manchester and have the Choy Hing Village on my doorstep which is still fab. I had four courses banquet for £30 pp. they added 10% service. Would never recommend it.

Lets just say this wasnt the restaurant i remember fondly from many years ago. The setting resembled a 70's function room; (and a bad one at that!) and i half expected Basil Fawlty to walk out at any time. It appears something has happened to close the main restaurant so they are now using the upstairs section temporarily and you cant half tell... the pass was partly made out of empty crisp boxes. 2 stars as the food wasnt terrible but the dining experience was unique to say the least with some staff that could have appeared in the munsters!

I'm sorry but this is awful. From the food to the staff to the decor to the price, this is exactly kind of place that should be closed down. Plain and simple. Good restaurants, sod that, average restaurants are losing business as long as this place stays open. We arrived, shown the table in a near empty sad vault of a room that resembled a 70s function hall. We asked the waiter what he would recommend from a vast menu (surprisingly lacking in many vegetable options, despite it's size). His reply, I've only been here 3 months, I've never tried the food. But I do like Sushi (sic). Another waiter appeared, we gave her our order, she said, I won't have that it's too Chinese, or if you like tofu, I would have the prawns and saffron (I kid you not.) In fact twice she would point out a completely different meat dish when we ordered a fish dish. Naturally, the vegetarian Ma Po came with pork, less expected was the argument with manager over whether it was pork or not. Leaving a restaurant had never been so sweet

I went to the Yang Sing last night with my family. Not having been there for some years I was hopeful that the meal would be of the high standard that I remembered. We were not disappointed. Whilst there are some alterations being made on the lower floor, the room where we ate was clean, spacious and well laid out. The staff could not do enough for us even coming to help us sing Happy Birthday to my grandson. But, most importantly, the food was simply delicious, we all enjoyed our dishes. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience. Well done Yang Sing.

Lovely food. Lots of gluten free options, including sweet and sour dishes, which is a dream for many GF people. Service was good. A little bit confusing when dishes came out, Particularly starters. We were a party of 9, and were generally well looked after. The function room was the main restaurant as they said there had been a fire and they were waiting for final safety checks. This meant no tea or coffee for afters, which was disappointing. However, the food was delicious and I had my first sweet and sour chicken in 8 years.

Dined last night , bottom level shut due to fire. Sat upstairs a couple of floors up , makeshift tables and no proper arrangement , decor etc. Service very poor for food and drinks. Crispy duck for starter was verging inedible , too dry and burnt. Not worth the money. Sea bass overcooked and chewy overpriced at £35. Special fried rice with loads of lettuce in , never had this before wasn't nice. Always visit once a year and food has been good and the service. Appears to me it has gone downhill will not be visiting again !!

Honestly this pains me to say as I'm a big fan of the place, but totally let down in the Yang Sing on my Lads girlfriends 21st.. They've had a fire downstairs so are currently seating people up on the 4th floor. Now putting us in another room would be fine, except the room they put us in (function room) looked grotty and tired, the lighting was like a 1000watt bulb in the middle of the room, (zero thought to ambience) and decor dated and tatty. The food wasn't special as it always was, in fact I've had better from my takeaway at home. They put food on the table, forgetting half of the stuff we ordered, the staff seemed clueless, I even had to get up and tell them at one point I was not happy..No dessert offered, no coffee, just given a bill for £300+. Won't be going again..no value for money, and other restaurants kicking there arse for service.

Honestly best food I've had in awhile. We ordered absolutely loads of menu items. Kung pao chicken was amazing lovely nd spicy, salt and pepper chicken was slightly on the salty side but was great quality. Crispy chilli beef was the best I've ever had. Duck was cooked great and loads of pancakes. Spring rolls full of flavour. The highlight of the night was definitely the steamed bao buns dessert. We had hedgehog and steamed buns. Absolutely mouthwatering. Service was great but obviously with lockdown over new staff were there and were not as strong or trained as the other staff so required some assistance.

Tasty Chinese food from an Asian’s perspective, but they should’ve warned the prices on the menu weren’t for Asian size... Take a look at the bean sprouts, it was a side but I was like “that’s like a whole dish for a family of four” when it came, likewise for the prawn egg rice... dim sum was just right. Just imo, a little too much MSG. *** Uncle Roger should come here ***

I've not been to the Yang Sing for about 10 years. My family and I used to go very regularly but then it went downhill and we started frequenting a different restaurant in Manchester Chinatown. Anyway, we thought, we would give it another try (just for old times' sake). The service was very pleasant and the starters were nice as well, good so far. However the main was just average (about 5/10) The crispy chili beef was too "crispy" to be edible and the sweet and sour was reminiscent of a cheap takeaway. At the end of the meal, we were going to leave a tip. However, when we were presented with the bill, there was a "service charge" of nearly £10!! so we just left it at that. In summary, it has a long way to go to reach its former glory.
