What an overpriced, overrated, unfriendly, disappointing place this turned out to be. I came in and was shocked to see just how expensive this place is. I know it's slap bang in the middle of didsbury but my oh my this place is expensive and for the price, the food isn't exceptional whatsoever. I ordered two fish, one lightly battered and one normal but when I got home I unwrapped two over cooked dark brown, heavily battered fish, greasy as hell with the most anemic chips you could imagine, and at the price of £19:20 you can guarantee I'm never going back and I'd advise others to stay well clear, but given its the only one about, I guess the residents don't really have much choice.

Bought large chips and gravy. Chips were OK, nothing special. Gravy was delicious. I wouldn't go there again given that it was, in comparison to other chippies, only a small portion. The cost...£17.50! Which for chips and gravy x 2 is extortionate. My local chippy is £7 at most, I'll stick with them.

My daughter and I bought in-store. As soon as we walked in, the heavenly smell hit us, and we both proclaimed how good it smelt. The room was clean, tidy, and nicely decorated and we even made reference to the art details that were painted on the wall 👌 I ordered a small cod, it was really cute, and actually ample for me (middle aged woman) as a main, and I reckon it'd be ample for my 14 year old son (who eats loads) too. My daughter chose the sausage which she tells me was "yeah, it was good" (high praise from a teenager 😆). I shared a large chips with my 16 year old, to accompany our mains. Again, it filled the two of us, but it did look a *lot* smaller than I had expected it would be, as there were three sizes to choose from so I would imagine this to be a medium at an average chippy. I had hoped for that price, to have left overs to share with the other kids when we got home, but as it stands, please just don't tell them that we went, and I reckon we can just about get away without them knowing that we'd had it without them 😆 The pots of gravy and mushy peas were tiny. No where near enough to accompany the half a large chips per pot that we had planned on. And at £2.00 a pot I expected much more. I suspect much of the costing went on the very nice thick paper cups, the wooden cutlery wrapped with napkins, and of course a side of healthy profit. The food was amazing! It was hot, crisp, salted to just the right amount, and beautifully flavourful. In fact, all food pics were taken after sampling a couple of mouthfuls because there was no way I was waiting to start so I could take a photo first 😆 Finally let's talk about prices. It's much more than I'd usually be willing to spend in a local chippy, but... It was extra quality along side the extra cost, so I guess it's a case of "getting what you pay for". So would I come back? If I had the money and it was a treat, then, yes I would! And I'd be keen to try the battered halloumi. But it's not something I could frequent as a regular occurrence due to its prices, in this cost of living crisis. Constructive suggestion; a couple of seats in there for the chance to sit while your food is being freshly cooked, would've been ideal and a real blessing to me. Beyond that, great job guys n gals, 4.5⭐ out of 5.

Came here for takeaway for 3 on a late Sunday afternoon as my daughter is Coeliac. Had the cod and chips with mushy peas and curry sauces. The staff were friendly and the fish was delicious, even after a 30 minute drive back to North Manchester. I’d definitely buy from this takeaway again but beware of the parking cameras which monitor the road outside the shop as they allow only 15 minutes and we nearly exceeded this despite it being a quiet time

We usually order through Deliveroo. Food always excellent and arrives hot, travels well. However, twice in past 3 months we have had items missing from order which we have then had to get refunded through Deliveroo. Each time the bag has come stapled closed with correct receipt showing missing items as being present. I’m not sure who is at fault (either item not packed or deliveroo stealing) but considering switching allegiances to another chippy which is a shame as the food is excellent and does good coeliac friendly / gluten free choices.

My son and I have just had our tea from here. 2 reg cod, 1 large chips and a curry sauce. My son's fish was as we would expect, a decent sized fish covered in batter. However my fish was the worst I have ever had. It looked like a decent fish about 6" long but on cutting into it was about 3" of fish and the rest was batter. This cost £7.80 which is not cheap if was all fish but for half fish and half batter it is absolutely disgusting. The lady taking the orders was very unpleasant too. We all have bad days but don't take it out on your customers. In future we will find another chippy as I'm not paying these prices (£22.50 for 2 reg fish, 1 large chips and a curry sauce) and be spoken to as though we were an annoyance. Goodbye Anchors

I bought a 2 fish cakes, chips, peas and a bun. I didn't hear the lady who served me give a price. I just paid. Saw my bank statement earlier and it was £14.30. I though this had to be a mistake. So I checked out thier website and I was right. They had i overcharged me by 50p. Funny thing was though that isn't really the scandalous part. The whole thing was a rip off. £4 for a store bought fishcake is joke. They were tasteless. Closest they came to a fish was the freezer they pulled them out of before they were thrown in the fryer. The chips were decent but I dont see how you can mess up a chips. The portion size was stingy though. Peas were alright. The bun was dry. I did a comparison to a few of my hometown chippies in Grimsby to see if this was my mistake and that prices are indeed what i paid. Or, to see if it was just a massive rip off. Sadly it was a rip off. About £4 more expensive I found. Maybe if the fishcakes were homemade and made with a bit of love i could maybe understand. Alas no. A factory made breaded fiscake i could have got 10 from iceland for about £3 . I certainly paid a price to realise I wont be using them again. I'd question the reasons for the over charge but this is Didsbury after all. Residents are more than used to paying over the odds for things.

Probably the lowest rated fish and chips in all of Manchester. *Service is horrendous. The most rudest woman works behind the counter taking orders. Clearly she cannot handle the stress of the job. She is so rude and has zero manners/customer service. *They offer gluten free options. The only issue is not on Friday's. Apparently gluten has decided to choose Friday's to attack the masses. What does that even mean?! They do however do battered sausage (gluten free) on Friday's! So why not use the same batter!? The most idiotic statement I've ever heard this week: "we don't do gluten free "battah" on Fridays except for the sausage" So stupid. *I asked for 2 Haddock and 1 large chips and gravy. I got double of everything and they charge you ridiculous prices for it. The atmosphere is horrendous due to the old lady. I've just binned both chips as they were really under cooked. I wouldn't dare let the old lady know as she would probably attack me with hot oil. *The price for a fish is £7.50, chips under £4, sides average £2. Don't get the gravy it's like thin watered down and smells of an ashtray. This place will close down in 8 months. It has too. Places like WA14 Fish and Chips, Chippy on Burton road are much , much , much better. Shame on you and your extortionate ways.

Also, I prefer to put my own salt & vinegar on my food. The fish&chips were cooked in oil that didn't taste nice either. Where I live, they're several good fish & chip shops. Many years ago, my family made a good living out of this trade. So I would say I have a good idea of how they should taste. I was puzzled, by this shop not having a bin outside. Unusual for a fish shop. Might this be, because the proprietors don't want people eating the food in the vicinity?

Just picked up a tray for two for £19. My wife had been raving about their fish and chips she had a few months ago. What a disappointment. The chips were soggy and tepid. The two pieces of cod were ridiculously small - about the size of a jumbo fish finger! Definitely didn't live up to the hype - expected far better for the price. We'll give this place a wide berth for a while, maybe they'll get their act together...

Well where to start. We called in at the chippy just before closing on a Friday night, closing being at 9pm. We placed an order, which was reluctantly taken by the most unhelpful lady on the front reception. I wished she’d have been in goal for Manchester United all season because nothing gets past her. With her in goal we’d have won the league. A friendly face and a smile we’re not on the menu. Customer service lacking. Definitely a training need. The kitchen staff were all behind the counter saying no more orders we’re finished. A chap who was waiting behind us failed to get served despite him being there since well before closing. Poor customer service. The food when it came was palatable apart from the three hairs found in two of the meals. None of the staff were wearing protective hair nets, caps or other forms of attire required for H and S purposes. The prices are extortionate compared to other local outlets. The quality is also poor, compared to the same. We found the whole experience not up to any kind of acceptable standard and will not be using the chip shop again. By the way the poor chap behind us didn’t get any food. I’ll bet he won’t be visiting again either.

Ace chips, prepare to queue a little, especially busy times but we'll worth it.

Worst fish and chips in Manchester and very expensive. Fish had been frozen, was very small and didn’t taste of a lot, If you want a normal size fish you will need to pay £13.50. The chips were terrible, cold, hard and more like something you would be served in a pub. If you want decent fish and chips, I would highly recommend Church Street, in Northernden.

No way this is worth 5 star. My family and I ordered on Deliveroo. ALL of the food was inedible. Everything was way too salty and very very burnt. The order cost us £43 and what a waste that was. We will never order from here again. If you don't believe it then order and find out. 😀
