Great choice of coffee and food. We loved the Ham, Cheese and Chutney bagel as well as the tasty tea cake. The Machiato was smaller than expected, but lovely taste and strong. We were also very impressed with the supply of sanitary, nappies and wipes in the toilet / wash room

Popped in as walking by. Lovely decor, really good menu. Good friendly service, lots of interesting flavors. Would defiantly return and recommend to all.

Excellent service. Coffee was nothing like a Costa as it had depth and flavour. Bagels so tasty with gf available. Very friendly staff and customers- like a big family. Support this local business and the young owner and staff

The best place in town for coffee, the two guys are very friendly and attentive to detail. The shop could give some of the best coffee shops in London a run for their money.

What a great cup of coffee, hot chocolate and cake. An independent coffee shop, which is brilliant. Hard working staff, who were very friendly. On a miserable March day the coffee shop was full, which says a lot. Give it a visit, we'll worth it.

What a place! Lovely atmosphere and beautiful coffee. The two lads running it were so friendly and made us feel really valued as customers. Well worth a coffee stop in here, they truly care and genuinely love coffee! I highly recommend the apple cinnamon flapjack!

What an amazing find....Popped in the off chance as we were in the area on holiday....Amazing varity of coffee not seen anywhere else.....and the bagels are to die for.....We went back on the day we left just to experience the same again....Lovely friendly staff..atmosphere chilled......a plus as Dog friendly. We will defo be back when we travel down again......keep up the good work guys.

A grand statement, my suggestion go and find out! Located about half way up the main shopping street, you will come across this delightful trendy, laid back space. The killer flatwhite packed taste and caffeine, three shots instead of the obligatory two shots that a flatwhite should have. Chai Latte to die for, plus a great soundtrack in the background...so good we had to enquire

We ventured to the upper part of the high street which isn't the most attractive street in Torquay and were rewarded by finding this great cafe where we had a really good Cortado.

I really like this place ı didn’t know there was such a nice place before ı came to Torquay.They are very firendly,smiling,kind people ı loved it a lot. Very good coffee,warm welcome,very good service.I wanted a bagel,because ı can’t eat pork,she took the pig out and put cheese,tomatoes and olives in it for me,with chips, salad.I really like the coffee to they have the best coffees with a good effort and ı really recommend this place it is the best place in Torquay. A real Coffee oasis in Torquay. It feels like you stepped off the street, away from the tourists and into somewhere a million miles away with a really pleasant ambience. If I lived anywhere nearby it would be my go to Coffee Shop. Shame!

There is many coffee shops around the area and I walked into Kalipso by chance. How I am glad that I did! The latte is one of the best I had i the UK and the bagels are just perfect! Definitely give them a tey if you're a fan of independent cafes with great coffee

I am trying out local coffee shops to fuel my coffee obsession. This was be far the best coffee I have had in Torquay. They make their own pistachio syrup which was incredible. I had a decaf pistachio skinny latte and it was absolutely perfect....

Between the three of us we tried different coffees - each one was amazing 😍 Clean, bright and airy. Good place just to read, work or chat.

Comfortable and inviting, this coffee house is a little gem. Huge choice of both tea and coffee and homemade cakes. My wife had the mango tea and said it was amazing, as was the carrot cake she had. All in all a delightful place to drop in to.

This place was recommended by a friend who lives in Torquay. We had a cow's milk flat white and an oat milk flat white, both delicious. So nice that we went back the following day. I also had a bagel, that was delicious too.Nothing better than finding somewhere to get a decent flat white. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Torquay.

We try and find places like this instead of chains such as Costa (terrible coffee anyway!)The decor was lovely and the coffee was even better! The 2 guys working there were super friendly and we went back on our second morning in Torquay too. Consistently good service, clean and really good quality coffee!! :)

Kalipso does great coffee. Amazing flat whites and nice latte art! Bambinocinos with marshmallows were a hit with the kids too. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Social distancing and table hygiene very good. Don't go to the chain coffee shops! Go to Kalipso!

Always keen to try independent coffee shops, we thought we’d give Kalipso a try. We were thoroughly impressed by the range of coffees (and smoothies) on offer and made multiple trips during our stay. While we didn’t get a chance to try their bagels, they looked amazing and we hope to try them next time we visit.

This was always our favourite coffee shop before lockdown and we was so happy when we discovered they were doing takeaway during lockdown. It made for a lovely treat on our daily walk. Delicious coffee as always. We had their filled bagels for a change. I had the pastrami bagel and it was one of the best bagels I have ever had. The staff are always friendly. I hope everyone supports this small coffee shop during these tough times. Thank you very much, we will be back soon!

We've started popping in here as a half way point to our Saturday walk. We have lattes made with oat milk and usually a couple of their cakes or filled bagels as a treat. The coffees are delicious (I think they use Oatly oat milk which we buy at home because it's our favourite) and the service is good. I'm really pleased we've found this little coffee shop and we'll go in whenever we're passing to try to do our small bit to help ensure our favourite businesses survive this economic mess we're in.

The blend was superb, strong and sour - one of the best oat milk macchiatos I've had. Well, it was two actually. Also, a croissant with mushroom and cheese. The guys take a lot of care over everything and the service is very friendly.This is now my go-to place for breakfast when I visit Torquay. Thoroughly recommend.

Needed a good americano and the place looked good....I asked about the coffee, was it strong etc even asked for a comparison to costa (which I abhor) and I was assured that it was much better. Well it wasn't much better at all, and certainly not a patch on Nero coffee....was disappointed.

In Torquay for a long weekend and wanted somewhere local for coffee.Initially walked past but decided to go back and give it a go. Very glad we did. Great coffee and cakes were fab. My partner had a lemonade, was also really good. Nice vibe and very friendly staff.

Calypso serves exceptional coffee and amazing cakes but what makes it really special is the atmosphere. Lana and her friendly team are so warm and welcoming, it feels more like having a cuppa in your friend’s front room than a business. There's no other place like Calypso in whole Torbay. Highly recommended!

With non-dairy milk (soya, oat), individually and environmentally healthier than cow's milk (this last one ideal if you're a calf), coming in at 50p extra, it's a "No, thanks" from me. An oat cortado (a small drink) set me back £3, considerably dearer than Caffe Nero, Costa, and most other places! When you claim, even nowadays, that even soya costs you anything like that differential, I can only say "then shop around"!! Read up too: It's a habit to be encouraged, not penalised.

There are lots of coffee shops in Torquay, this is definitely one of the better ones ! Great service and great coffee !

Calypso is hands down the best coffee I have ever in this part of England. As an Aussie I have very high expectations for coffee and often go without when travelling because I'm afraid it will taste bad, but not in Calypso. I can surely say this is the only coffee I've had that "tastes like home". It's not cheap but worth it if you are after decent cup of joe. Highly recommended!

Possibly one of the best coffees I have ever enjoyed and definitely the best in whole Torbay area. Those guys are really knowledgeable and passionate about coffee and you can tell it. They use speciality beans roasted by Maxwell Colonna who is a legend in coffee industry. Excellent cup each and every time. Thanks folks!

Having been to Calypso on a number of occasions, we have found the service to be consistent and friendly. It’s clear to see this caffe is a popular choice among locals, but the coffee is worth the wait, so long as you’re not in a hurry!

The food and drinks here are excellent quality, and the service is always brilliant. Even when busy, the team will do their best to welcome every customer.

I must say I am a big coffee lover and really enjoyed coffee they serve here. Variety of beans and brewing methods to choose from makes it a paradise for every coffee connoisseur. The place's industrial decor reminds me of many of coffee shop here in Norway. Lovely staff who is always up for a chat or cheeky banter. Great music selection and nice, relaxing, home-like atmosphere makes you wanna stay for another cup of joe. Highly recommended!

I have been here several times, and usually for an afternoon Coffey, sometimes with cake. The Coffey is excellent. Staff are friendly, polite, and a good service.

The coffee is excellent, and service is friendly. We had ham and cheese croissants and they were really good. My wife drinks decaf coffee and she was very happy with the quality and flavour they serve.

Just putting it out there went in here for the first time for a cuppa and a snack and had a great surprise! We had a pastrami bagel loaded with lots of good quality pastrami gherkins mayo and cheese all contained in a lovely soft tasty toasted bagel - in fact all the food looked lovely

It’s been about two years since I last visited Torquay, but I hadn’t forgotten Calypso. I was delighted to discover when I visited again near the end of Oct 2018 that they are still awesome. The food is brilliant and the coffee is fantastic. The barista who served us was great - he spotted off the bat that my dad thought coffee started and ended with granules, and politely advised my dad that the coffee was very sweet, and he might want to try it first before adding the sugar. He could have said nothing, or he could have been patronising, but instead he was just friendly. Funnily enough I saw him deal with a couple of other older customers and he was just as brilliant with them. I don’t know the guy’s name (if managers read this, he was in a black teeshirt that had a drawing of a cartoon like head on the back) but he was an absolute credit.

lovely place for a excellent coffee and more, Bagels, yummy, Pastel de Nata beautiful. crisp buttery pastry, creamy custard topped with perfect cinnamon topping , warm and soooo delicious. Hand crafted brewed coffees served beautifully. Everyone is so friendly and happy here, lovely comfortable seats and bright and cheerful simple décor. We first came when it had just opened a while back,as I no longer live in the area it was pleasing to return for it all to be going so well and all the same, fantastic with lots of new coffees and more. amazing

These guys know their way around a coffee bean so intimately that they are able to cleverly and intuitively play around with flavours and tailor every cup of coffee to the individual tastes of each customer that walks through their doors.

We visited twice while staying in Torquay! Best coffee we have tasted in a long time! We also treated ourselves to a piece of cake each. The carrot cake and salted caramel brownie, both recommended were fresh and delicious.

Came back to Torquay for a holiday and visited Calypso once again. Have to say it is still a lovely shop with friendly staff. Always on my list for a coffee here when we are in town. Good choice of tea as well as coffee so you can't go wrong.

A wonderful aroma of coffee as you walk in. The prices are reasonable (cheaper than the international chains) and the coffee is superb. The first sip was one of the best tastes I've ever experienced drinking coffee. My partner enjoyed an elderflower drink on this occasion.

So pleased to have found this independent coffee shop! Had a delicious breakfast two days running of granola with yoghurt and fruit plus delicious coffee! Staff were super friendly and I could have spent all day there drinking coffee!

Calypso really stands out amongst all big coffee chains and greasy spoon cafes in Torquay. The coffee here is excellent, filled bagels to die for and the service efficient and attentive. Once you've tried it you will never go elsewhere. Truly recommended!

Great little, spacious coffee place on Torquay busy Fleet Street. Superb coffee, scrumptious gf and df cakes and the best avocado on sourdough in town. Top notch service paired with nice, chilled music makes you feel like home. Can't wait to try their cocktails. Thoroughly recommended.

We visited Calypso around 10am on a Thursday morning as I think it's always good to use independent stores. We thought we'd have a coffee and croissant but on seeing the selection of bagels, we opted for more of a brunch breakfast. The coffee was absolutely delicious and as it was a sunny day, we elected to sit outside. Our waiter brought our bagels to us and within seconds, a seagull had literally plummeted out of the sky and stolen half of mine! On hearing my screech, the waiter rushed back immediately and despite it not being his fault, very kindly took my food away and made me a fresh one. We then moved inside to stop it happening again. I can't praise this place highly enough both for their service (exceptional) and the quality of their food. The bagels were outstanding. Couldn't recommend this establishment more highly. Do give it a go.

In my mind you can’t beat small independent coffee shops , And this one never disappoints . They make such a nice cup of coffee with excellent GF & DF cake , It’s such a nice place to chill out and relax .

I was absolutely delighed with coffee, food and cocktails served at Calypso. Their cortados are really decent, I would say the best in town. The customer service is always second to none. The atmosphere is relaxed and chilled-out and the seats are very comfy. They are the only coffee shop in town open till late and serve cocktails and alcohol which is a big advantage. I didn't try any yet but I will definitely do soon. Truly recommended!

Thrilled that it’s an ‘independent artisan coffee shop’ that makes the best soya cappuccino I have ever tasted. The soya milk they use makes this coffee truly addictive! The customer service Is unrivalled and the whole relaxed vibe with newspapers, WiFi and great background music makes this cafe a winner.

We called here for a early afternoon coffee and cake. The place was very busy but we managed to find spare table outside. We ordered our drinks at the bar and sat down. Ten minutes later we still haven't received our coffee so I went up to ask why. It turned out our order was missed in the middle of rush time. The barista I was dealt with was very sorry and apologised many times and our drinks eventually arrived 3 minutes after. We then received a full refund and complimentary free coffee vouchers for both of us. We were very surprised as we didn't expect it. It was a great example of outstanding customer care skills which is rarecto see these days. Needless to say coffee was fabolous and we will back soon for more. Thank you.

Really enjoyed every single visit to this coffee shop. The coffee was outstanding, sweet chilli chicken bagel so delicious and cocktails were top class. The staff here is the friendliest in all the places I visited during my holiday in Torbay. The cohas such a nice home like ambience that you don't want to leave.

Finally I have found somewhere in the U.K. where they make flat whites like the Aussies do - strong, smooth and most importantly not too milky. Delicious food too and at very reasonable prices. An awesome coffee shop not to be missed if you’re visiting Torquay - I’d give it more than 5 stars if I could!

Visited three times on holiday for cappuccinos and delicious gluten free carrot cake, sour cherry cake and chocolate brownie. The coffee is the best I have tasted in years so rich and flavoursome. Would highly recommend this coffee shop.

What an amazing find in Torquay town! I am truly in love with this place. Since I entered the shop I knew it is gonna be good. And I was right. Coffee was simply beautiful. You will never find it such a decent coffee in any high street coffee chain. The service is excellent, very happy young people always up for a chat or a bit of friendly banter. Lovely atmosphere and cosy surroundings. I wish I have found it earlier. It has now become my favourite coffee stop in town.

Came across this place whilst shopping in Torquay centre. I am so happy i did. The coffee was so good I had two. I also tried pizza bagel which was delicious and very filling. Everything served with a smile by lovely people in nice, chilled atmosphere. Thoroughly recommended.

This is the best coffee shop in the bay I know. The service is always superb. They are extremely knowledgeable and explained to me the different methods of brewing coffee. All the coffee they serve is freshly roasted and ground to order to ensure maximum freshness and delicious flavour. Thank you folks for another most enjoyable caffeine hit. You are the best.

My favourite oasis & even better now that the cups are bigger, love the lavender latte and pastrami and pickles toasted bagel! Also love that you can buy mini cakes so you can try lots of different ones! Salad seasoning is amazing too (it's the little details)

An Oasis of calm in a busy town centre, an independent serving excellent tea and coffee. Newspapers and magazines to read if you wish. We went in after a mornings shopping and came out refreshed!

I must admit I was very impressed with the quality and taste of coffee served here. Very knowledgeable and dedicated staff who really know their coffees inside out. If you can't make up your mind they will help you to choose right drink based on your personal preferences. I went for hand brewed filter which was natural Ethiopia from Clifton coffee on the day I visited and it was absolutely flawless, so rich and bursting with interesting, bold flavors. If you are a real coffee geek give it a go you won't be disappointed. Well done guys!
