Well, if there’s a brewery tap on the route of your crawl then you have to do it, if it was open, but its fair to say I didn’t warm to this one. It hasn’t got a great deal of pavement appeal to start with, more resembling a converted lock-up garage round the back of a seedy trading estate at the end of a cul-de-sac abutting the railway line. And there’s not a great deal of character to this place once your inside and it’s all a bit sterile. I was getting more hospital waiting room vibe than brewery tap vibe. And I actually feel better reading the previous review as my experience was exactly in keeping with Richard below. I also went for 2/3 of some high ABV stout which was pretty cold and didn’t have a lot of anything going on at first. Sadly, even by the time it had warmed up it still didn’t, and I finished up leaving the last 1/3. With so many decent ale pubs in close vicinity I too cannot see myself troubling this one again.

A year ago this was a great place to go for a drink. You used to get a nice range of beers, from session IPAs to stouts and perhaps one or two more eclectic options. That's all changed. There's little or nothing at a mainstream strength, and nothing that could be considered a normal cask ale. It's all fruit sours and lagers and stronger ales which (reasonably enough) are not sold by the pint. The last time I was there, I had a two-thirds pint of a 6.6% porter. That sounds like it ought to have a lot of flavour, but it really didn't. Despite being a Saturday afternoon, there was only one person there besides us. On the plus side, they still do nice pizzas from Scott's.

A lovely place, run by nice people. Beer tastes great. However without fail I have personally had a vicous hangover everytime I have been there. This has been from as little as one or two pints of their beer, regardless of the strength. I have not experienced this with any other pub or microbrewery locally or otherwise? Anyone else found this?

Another brewery that is new to me and the beers didn't disappoint either. The tap room is hidden away at the end of a road and if you didn't know where it was then you'd not find it quickly. But, once you do then it is well worth the visit. We popped in as it was on an ale trail around the Cambridge Brewery Quarter. When we got there the atmosphere was buzzing and the taproom was full. The brewery rap does food, such as pizzas cooked on site. Which looking at the menu were reasonably priced as well and they seemed to go down well with the punters. The staff were incredibly friendly and efficient given how busy it was and there were only 2 working the bar at the time. Again, it is around a 20-minute walk from the train station. But, it is well worth the walk. If you're in the area then go and pay them a visit.

Small size, LARGE QUALITY! A true neighborhood brewery that prides itself on quality and offers a variety of custom ales. The Farmhouse Trip Ale is the best ale I’ve had in the UK, by far! Delicious! The brewery site itself is located in a small neighborhood off the beaten path of the Cambridge city center but a close walk from the eclectic stores of Mill Road and worth the walk! The brewery is tucked up against the train tracks which allows you to feel the authentic UK experience of trains passing by in a low rumble that you notice occasionally but isn’t loud or annoying (part of the fun experience). The experience inside is very simple and focuses on the beer inside. The site does offer good food but gooses to limit its offerings as the focus is meant to reside on the brews. I left feeling like I stumbled upon a secret, local gem of Cambridge that few knew about but all should experience! Almost as if I’d walked up to a neighbor brewing delicious brew and he tapped into it to share a sample just for me. Fun experience and I can’t wait to go back.

Lovers of beer and atmosphere need look no further. Cosy indoor section houses snug seating, the vats themselves and staff who are as genial as they are urbane. There is a bar within the brewery situated in an old workshop out near the railway line. There is a great election of beer brewed on the premises which can be consumed seated at tables either in a room with some fermenting tanks or in a covered area outside. I'm reluctant to write a review of Calverley's Brewery..... I feel selfish enough to keep this ego to myself. The beer they produce is just about the best I have ever tasted. The organic IPA and the stout/porter is exceptional. I truly hope they can keep up the quality as more and more people find their way to Calverley's and the pressure is on for them to produce in larger quantities. Probably the BEST artisan brewery.... in the World.

Perhaps this is one of the problems with Tripadvisor (and I am adding to them!). The beer is brewed on-site by a group of enthusiasts is excellent and varied. And the guys serving know their stuff. Sitting in a garage or a driveway has a certain charm but large groups of non locals can sometimes take over who don't realise the strength of some of the beers. I wish it was a better kept local secret!

The range of beers is very diverse and rotated frequently so their is often something new to try. The porters and stouts are particularly good, the Belgian lagers and weissbiers are very easy to drink too. Staff are great (always happy for you to test the beers before committing to your pint) and the main bar/seating area is rustic but cosy. It is also nice seeing the fermentation tanks and casks at the bar bubbling away the next brew!

The formula is simple: great beer + great food, but Calverley’s is really something special. Situated at the end of Hooper Street by the railway track (just follow the large chalkboard marked ‘Beer’) - you’ll find a no-frills tap room serving, in my opinion, the best beer in Cambridge. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and won’t hesitate to offer you advice and tasters. There’s a varying beer menu and option for wine by the glass, alongside an excellent selection of visiting street food vans. Highly recommended!

Very pleasant brewery; staff are very friendly and helpful on the tough choice of choosing the first beer of the day, considering the broad variety that they brew on location - this meant sampling a few beers, on which the staff are eager to help. Participating food trucks show up from Thursday to Saturday to complement the experience, ranging from Italian pizzas to kebabs. Outdoor seating is available whenever possible; the location has polite notices to be mindful of the neighbours, but the crowd that the brewery attracts should not be a concern - the atmosphere is very friendly and calm. Overall very good experience for drinks and a bite whenever possible, thanks to the offer from the participating food trucks. The concept is a success and they have earned my return.

Down a cul-de-sac by the railway track is this small brewery, serving beers straight from the barrel on Thursday and Friday nights, and all day Saturday. In good weather, it's a real pleasure to sit at the trestle tables outside, and I'm sure if you stay long enough you'll make new friends. The beers vary from the sublime to the decidedly odd, but you're urged to try before you buy, so you should find something you like. Food is available from vans that park in the street next door, if you feel like settling down for a serious session. Coming here really makes you feel like a Cambridge insider!

The beer is now very tasty and quite interesting, and the place really shines when you can sit outside in the beer garden. Flying Pizza has truly taken pizza to new heights! From the moment you step in, you’re greeted with the aroma of fresh dough and sizzling toppings. This vibrant, modern pizza spot is known for its inventive pies and quality ingredients. The menu is a dream for pizza lovers, offering everything from classic options like the Margherita to bold, creative combinations like the BBQ chicken and smoked mozzarella or the indulgent four-cheese truffle pizza. Each pizza is prepared with a perfect balance of toppings and a thin, crispy crust that’s just the right amount of chewy. One of the standout features of Flying Pizza is their signature wood-fired oven, which gives the pies a unique, smoky flavor that’s hard to beat. The sauce is tangy with a slight sweetness, and the cheese is always melted to perfection. For those looking for something out of the ordinary, Flying Pizza also offers gluten-free crusts and vegan options, making it a great spot for all dietary preferences. The staff is incredibly friendly and efficient, offering excellent service with a smile. Whether you’re dining in or ordering for delivery, the experience is seamless. The atmosphere is casual and laid-back, perfect for a night out with friends or a family dinner. With generous portions and fair prices, Flying Pizza offers both quality and value. The drink menu features a selection of local craft beers and refreshing soft drinks to pair perfectly with your meal. Overall, Flying Pizza is a standout in the local pizza scene, combining high-quality ingredients, great service, and a fun vibe. Highly recommended for anyone craving a pizza experience that’s truly “flying” above the rest!
