Cake Room in Hastings

We love cake rooms, we have been coming here for years - However one thing that really bothers us, and others I have spoken to and puts us off is the charge for a babychino. It might sound silly but nearly £2 for a single espresso sized cup of Luke warm milk is very steep. Babychinos are free in the vast majority of coffee shops in Hastings as it brings families in and as it is in theory the milk left over from the other coffees already being made it feels a little cheeky to charge so much. Even in London we have never paid more than 50p.

We were returning customers today because we loved it so much the first time. We absolutely loved it, great menu and it was totally delicious!!! We are hooked!

Wonderful cake, lovely people and a beautiful place with great art

We visited the ‘Cake Room’ on a wet and windy Hastings day. Warm welcome and scrumptious looking food ( both sweet and savoury). Tea brewed to perfection ( egg timer provided) and flavoursome coffee. We chose a Christmas mince pie crumble which was delicious. The Cake Room is our new favourite cafe in Hastings!

It's not just a cake room, though the cakes are fabuous. The Kimcheese sandwich (kimchi-flavoured cheese), the veggie focaccia and the fabulous home made soup of the day are all amazing and there are lots of other savoury choices. The coffee is lovely and can come with various added shots if you fancy it. The staff are lovely and the service is very caring. It's sandwiched (!) between two other great places: Hanushka coffee bar and Rustico, a regional Italian so it's in a great spot. You CAN have your cake and eat it.

I had a work event here and it was so lovely I came back the next day with my boyfriend. The mulled apple juice they have at the moment is some of the best I’ve ever tried and the cheese and ham croissant was so delicious! I don’t really leave reviews but I felt compelled to say how great this place is. Great atmosphere and friendly staff too. Highly recommend!

Very nice cake and “cold chocolate “

Walking in to this very stylish cafe I felt at home immediately. I received a very warm welcome from the owners and their gorgeous dog. The coffee was delicious, the Stilton walnut cake very tasty and the service quick and friendly. A definite must for anyone in the area to experience and make it your go to cafe! Can’t wait to try the sandwiches next time!

A lovely place to pop in for a relaxing drink and food from the wonderful selection offered. The almond pastries were labelled as 'the best' and they were pretty amazing! Very friendly people and beautiful decor.

The most wonderful cafe, couldn’t recommend more! The food was unreal. Tasted like it was fresh and made with genuine care. Even the bread in my sandwich and salad dressing was top notch. The best veggie options too. The loveliest staff ever. Supper friendly and community feel. Can’t express in words what a lovely cafe this is, will be back soon. Thank you so so much!!

Great little coffee shop! I had a chocolate orange brownie that was to die for! With a lovely coffee. Price is very reasonable and the atmosphere is great.

Perfect! We have been going there for years and absolutely love it! Baxter the resident dog is ❤️ and the pecan thingy I sometimes request is the best thing ever created in the whole of the universe. Absolute recommend!

Our first visit to The Cake Room whilst on holiday in the area . It did not disappoint, the food was lovely served by friendly staff . Absolutely loved the decor, very relaxed . Perfect place to chill out .

Sadly, we were super disappointed! I went to change our baby in their HUGE bathroom and had to change him on a mat on the floor which is the first time this has ever happened. I don’t understand why, in such a large bathroom, they can’t just put a baby changing unit up. It was really horrible and unhygienic to kneel on the floor in a bathroom changing a baby. On top of this, they charge extra for non-dairy milk which is a huge no-no for us. The food and drinks were lovely (bar expensive; over £24 for 2 drinks and 2 paninis). We won’t be returning.

The ambience is great, dog friendly. The drinks are great, especially the hot chocolate - very indulgent. The cakes I had, however, were dry and lacked flavour. (I had the coffee and Bailey’s cakes as well as the Pumpkin cake). My 2 other friends also agreed.

Fabulous little cafe, tried a turmeric latte along with a slice of home made cake. It’s always a pleasure to find little independent cafes run by passionate about what they do people!!!!

Good selection of drinks to be had,not a massive amount of food to choose from,but was quality what was on offer.

Lauren makes the best cakes you can buy out - as a keen home baker I'm super fussy about cakes when I go out - hers are always wonderful! Lovely place to go, and if you get to make a fuss of Baxter the sausage dog while you're there it's a huge bonus ^_^

Fantastic cake and coffee options. I am on a limited diet but found there were many options - gluten free, soya free and dairy free. The gluten free brownie was particularly delicious. Excellent service. I will be back!

Had a delicious iced mocha with oat milk and a very refreshing ginger lemonade. Very well prepared drincs with great attention to detail. They even brought us the syrup for the lemonade on the side. Highly recommend for coffee and brunch. The store is family and pet friendly.

A wonderful little cafe that we will definitely be visiting again. We spoke with the owner and she was very friendly and welcoming. The coffee was excellent - and this is coming from a bit of a coffee nerd! My partner loves iced hot choc and this was one of the best she’s had. Overall a really lovely experience.

The staff are always so friendly and this is such a positive atmosphere. Today we had the carrot cake and the gluten free red velvet cake. We would highly recommend to locals and visitors and we will be returning soon.

When we went in (early afternoon) very very limited sad aray of cakes (especially for a Cake Room!!!) what we did have was stale! Staff were very nice but sorry its over priced, over rated and poor quality.

Vegan desserts are heavenly and the ever adorable Dachshund Baxter is on hand to greet you the moment you enter 😍

Gorgeous little place, lovely decor throughout and a great menu. Afogato was delicious and lovely coffee, i also had a beautiful fresh mozzarella, tomato and basil toasted ciabatta which was delicious. Also loved how dog friendly it was!

What a fantastic cafe. I couldn’t recommend this place more highly. Not only is the food incredible, but the staff are so accommodating. They kindly let 6 of us eat which meant bringing out an extra table. Nothing was an issue for the staff and they just wanted to help and ensure everything was perfect. The food quality is a 10/10. I will absolutely be telling everyone about The Cake Room and will be going back as quickly as I can! A must visit.

I loved this place! Delicious food, really good coffee, friendly and accommodating staff. This cafe has lovely atmosphere and cosy spaces to do some work on a laptop, read a book or catch up with friends. Highly recommend!

Lovely friendly atmosphere delicious food

Day visit to Hastings. Arrived hungry and made our way to The Cake Room. Choice of both food and drink really good as catered for vegetarians as well as our meat eaters. We were not disappointed, the sandwiches are not that, they are so much more. Even our two pooches were made to feel welcome and settled quickly to people watch. Wish we had one near to home.

A comfortable, country style cafe serving excellent cakes. With your glass teapot you receive a tiny hourglass timed for the perfect cuppa.

Love this place so much. A favourite with friends and family as well as lunch dates with my husband. Almond latte is dreamy and cakes are perfection

A lovely addition to america ground. Great coffee and cakes. At the moment I go grab a takeaway then head for the beach to enjoy it. But there are a couple of tables set up for people who want to sit in or outside. The dirty chai is my go to drink here. Yum! A very chilled vibe with all the houseplants and often there is a little sausage dog hanging out or sleeping in his basket!

Superb. One of the rare places that serves correctly prepared cappuccino coffee (properly steamed etc). Really nice decor and general atmosphere inside. Lauren gives the whole place a nice feel about it. Original home prepared yummy cakes and rolls.. What's not to like ! Baxter is a star also. Truly excellent.

Blown away by how helpful and friendly the lady was who served me. The Rhubarb and Custard tea is absolutely delicious!!! I'll definitely be back for more....and for some of their delicious looking food and goodies!

Clean, friendly and the best home made cake.

The shop smells of fresh baked bread. Really good coffee to take away. The carrott and pecan nut cake is so moist 😋 lovely service thank you for serving us takeaway in lockdown 2 just what you need after a walk by the sea.

Visited here during Lockdown 2.0 for take- away. Lovely owner who makes all the cakes (which are delicious) and we also enjoyed a chai latte. Lots of vegan options, fresh sourdough bread from a local bakery and coffee is made with Pelicano beans (the best). The cafe is decorated really nicely and I imagine it is very calming to sit down in (when allowed to). I would highly recommend this place.

Coffee is good here, the cakes are also very nice and fresh. As a family we visited here and will be back for some fresh cakes soon!

Love the Cake Room. The treats are always freshly made and delicious and drinks fab. The service is always friendly, and you can't go wrong with the 'official greeter', sweet Baxter, the lovely dachshund who comes out to say hello when you walk in. Recommend this place for coffee and lunch.

Best cafe in Hastings. If I had a cafe of my own, this would be it. It is perfect.

The little cafe is lovely. The decor is really well done and it's very relaxing. I've met with friends here a few times, and find the atmosphere very relaxing. Unfortunately on my last visit I had a bad experience with a sandwich. I don't want to detail what happened or how it was handled, which wasn't satisfactory,but I certainly will go back here and try it again in the hope that it was just a 'one-off'experience.

Whilst Hastings itself strikes the visitor as a faded version of its former glory, here, in a street of nondescript shopfronts is a beacon of brilliance, delightful décor heralding fabulous food.A menu of modest length appears intended for concentration on quality. But what an interesting selection it is. This is no place for those seeking cheese and pickle or ham and tomato in their sandwiches or Kingsmill sliced for their packaging. The breads here are high end (the focaccia was spectacular) and the fillings more continental. If only I had left room for one of those speciality cakes. Never mind Hastings, I want one of these where I live.

If you’re looking for a coffee shop in Hastings with some character, of which there are plenty to choose from, then look no further than The Cake Room. An interior design to die for, blending a mix of 80’s California and Miami with a calming background soundtrack to boot, it’s hands down one of the most gorgeous looking coffee shops in town with its mass amount of greenery, chic furniture and unique artwork hanging from the walls. Warm and welcoming customer service combined with modest priced coffees and teas make this my first choice every time. Front of house host, Baxter the sausage dog, is always a nice addition to be welcomed by upon each visit too!

Lovely chunk of Chocolate fudge cake and a superb pot of tea Nice touch with the egg timer to get the perfect brew, it was well worth the six minute wait watching the timer whils eating cake. The steampunk decor is just right and we love your little dog.

The CAKE ROOM was recommended to us if we fancied great coffee and delicious sandwiches...and they did not disappoint! Our sandwiches were amazing and all the ingredients worked so well together! Our little boy thoroughly enjoyed his pancakes and nicked a piece of husband's red velvet cheesecake brownie. Will def be back again.

My son and I spent a very relaxed couple of hours yesterday, eating very tasty sandwiches and reading. The atmosphere in the Cake Room is relaxed and the music calm. We drank tea and hot chocolate and I ate the most delicious carrot cake I have ever tasted. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and I couldn't recommend the Cake Room more. You will not be disappointed.

Very well presented tea, coffee, and snacks but the most important reason to visit this cafe is to meet Baxter - the sausage dog who lives there.

The Cake Room is 5 stars from the moment you walk in; with an amazingly relaxed atmosphere, the Cake Room is decorated with so much greenery that even on a dull day your mood is lifted. Then when it comes to the food everything is hand made to perfection, at a very reasonable price, which is complimented by the excellent service. I will definitely be visiting again.

Popped in here recently with family to have a little Sunday lunch snack. And I don’t just mean cake! They had a lovely selection of sandwiches/panini-type snacks. I had a portobello mushroom and cheese one, it was delicious.The coffee wasn’t bad either.The place is nicely appointed, green houseplants and bare bricks and is near to the town centre and the beach.Give it a try instead of the usual “chain”.
