Cake O'clock Tea Shop in Southend-on-Sea

i pop along a few times as it's just down the road, anything you want from breakfast, lunch or just coffee and homemade cake, one day a week they even do pi and mash if that's your thing

Hubby & i just had a sandwhich & drink, but it incl salad & crisps which fealt like a whole meal. Owner served us and was so accommodating, it was just a lovely experiance. X

The cake here is just too good and the milkshakes are amazing I recommend this for people with a sweet tooth

The staff are so lovely they put banners up for my Birthday lunch and even bought out a cup cake with a candle on it and sang happy birthday to me. Thankyou

It's always a pleasure to visit the Cake O'clock Teashop. Lovely fresh food, all very reasonably priced, and service with a smile. This was our first time popping in for lunch (we've only ever had pre-booked afternoon tea before) and will definitely go back soon.

Lovely friendly atmosphere! Very clean and very quaint! Just what you expect from an old fashioned tea room! The flower wall is such a pretty touch and adds to the whole atmosphere! So nice to have homemade food! The quiche was very tasty and such good value! All the portion sizes are very generous! Nice to have tea in a vintage tea pot and tea cups! We will definitely be back!

Lovely place, very friendly helpful staff, great gluten free food especially the cakes, it’s so nice to have a choice , and not just one gluten free item. Have been here many times , at least once a week, never any complaints.

Staff and food here are amazing.

Lovely bacon sandwich and mug of coffee. Great place to get some breakfast whilst waiting for car tyres to be done. Good service and reasonable prices. Will eat here again.

Really nice place with good coffee and cakes (the Trillionnaire Shortbread was excellent according to my good lady). The staff were really friendly too so I will definitely be going back in the near future.

Weak coffee and the smallest tea cake I have ever had and over priced £3.25 for a coffee and the same for a tea cake.

I often bring my kids here after school for a milkshake and cake. The staff are all so friendly and interact with the kids. The cakes are very fresh and delicious. My son loves getting a strawberry milkshake and loves that they put cream and sprinkles on the top of them🥰 Also they have AC which is a bonus in this heat!

Today was very busy so we didn't mind having to wait to place our order. The ladies taking our order and whom we paid were lovely but older woman bringing food to us was rude. Enjoyed healthy breakfasts

Traditional style cafe. Come here for breakfast, sandwiches and cakes. Tea and coffee available. A bit old school inside but it's pleasant enough.

We visit cake o'clock roughly once a month. We always enjoy the food and the team are very accommodating and understanding of mine and my daughter's food allergies. (wheat/dairy) They have a range of freshly made gluten free and vegan cakes which are delicious plus takeaway/ snack options like sausage rolls. It's a great tea room and the team are all friendly and helpful.

We were so excited to be able to eat here. As there were going to be five of us, I did book. The lady who answered informed me that they would be short staffed, so it might take longer. The owner was delightful and made us feel welcome. It was busy inside, so it was a good job we booked. Our drinks order was taken promptly as was our food. It was hot, tasty, and very reasonably priced. My son had the full breakfast and was delighted with the sausages (where did you get them from?). There was a lighter choice selection that my mum had. She loved it, and her only comment was that she wished she had been given more mushrooms. Two of us had bacon topped pancakes with syrup. My daughter in law had jacket potato with lashings of cheese. Everyone was totally delighted.

Stumbled across this tea shop last year and couldn’t wait to visit again when in the area on my day off .. Greated by lovely staff, who are very welcoming and chatty. Food ordered and delivered to my table fresh & hot. It’s a popular place for cakes as they are all homemade! Most tables all taken, and it was only 10am! Will definitely return. My bacon and sausage sandwich was lovely and it went down a treat.. Thank you ..

This was my 2nd visit to the coffee shop, the first time wasn’t great we were kept waiting a long time for sandwiches! When it arrived it was ok but nothing special . Decided to give it another go yesterday as a friend and I wanted to meet locally, unfortunately it still wasn’t a great experience. Coffee was fine but my fruit scone seemed only to have cherries in it , I asked for it with butter but was given margarine/spread (yuck) my friends cake was a huge piece but dry she only ate a couple of bites. It’s only a small shop and we were asked to move tables half way through and had to sit directly in front of the door ! We were constantly moving so people could get through and closing the door as it was a wet windy day. I’m sorry to say I bother going back

Such a lovely tea room which serves the best quality food and their coffees are so good too. Have been there for lunch on numerous occasions and also recently took my daughter-in-law there for afternoon tea, which as an American, she has never experienced. The staff are lovely, nothing is too much trouble and they are very welcoming. Would highly recommend a visit there.

It was nice to sit outside. I enjoyed my homemade scene and our coffee was very good. Just could have been given a napkin and it would be excellent. Lovely staff :)

Popped in for breakfast this morning. Greeted by lovely staff, very welcoming and friendly. I was seated and my order taken . I ordered a coffee and a bacon sandwich. Bacon was cooked fresh and served in lovely thick tiger bread! My favourite. They have lots of cakes on display, that looked absolutely lovely, Shane I was to full to try one .. I will 100% come back for a slice.

Walked for 18 mins and arrived at 3.20pm and was closed. Internet and printed door hours said open until four pm. Gutted and gasping and in need of sit down. Journey wasted and what was meant to be outing in community

Lovely coffee, friendly staff, great atmosphere, a book swap, immaculate toilet with baby changing facilities (as a parent that’s always good to know) and a fantastic selection of cakes and treats!

First visit here last week as Iv heard many good reviews about it .. Was greeted by lovely ladies who sat us by the window. Drinks ordered first and arrived quickly. Food was then ordered and again arrived quickly and fresh .. We had the quiche with side salad, coleslaw and crisps. Was really nice. My son had the children’s deal.. A Sandwich with salad, crisps and fruit plus a lovely chocolate milkshake.. Prices are reasonable too.. We all left full up and pleased we gave this place a try .. We will definitely be going back .. I hope to try a breakfast on a Sunday morning..

Went for early lunch had cheese pani nni and coffee, was fine, the cafe is such a delight, very clean and pretty. Well worth a try sorry no photo

Went here with my granddaughter today and enjoyed tasty coronation chicken jacket potatoes. Everything very nice but a bit stingy with the apple juice, for £1.20 the glass could have been filled up.

Highly recommend this local cafe. Friendly service, delicious cakes, we all loved it, my Grandson's eyes nearly popped out of his head when he saw his pancakes

Lovely food, free flowing coffee and tea. Staff very friendly nothing too much trouble. Very reasonably priced for amount you get.

This cafe is a gem with a very happy atmosphere. The food is freshly prepared, very tasty and well priced. The homemade cakes, baked by the owners, are mouthwatering. I'm a coffee buff: their coffee puts the chains to shame. The cafe is squeaky clean (5* food rating) and the decor is charming. There's even free parking outside. The owners and staff are very cheerful and friendly so it's no surprise that they have so many regular customers. They also did a huge amount for charity during lockdown in providing English Teas to the residents of Special Needs Homes. Highly recommended

I am a Carer and have supported some adults with learning disabilities to the Cake O Clock tea shop. Steph and Karina and all the staff are so friendly and welcoming and are so disability aware, that it is just so lovely and everyone just wants to go again.The food is absolutely delicious and reasonably priced too. It is decorated so lovely and they have created such a cosy, cute, welcoming environment/atmosphere. This will definitely be a regular for us and I cannot thank you enough for showing all my clients such a lovely time.

What a nice surprise, our in-laws got us an amazing afternoon tea box ! It was absolutely delicious and looked great :) highly recommend.

Went there for my friend's baby shower. Great food. Good gluten free range. Lovely staff!

Arrived at the café, quite small inside, found a table free at the back. Was not greeted initially. The table was extremely close to the washing up area, there was not a partition to hide this area off. Whilst eating the server loaded the dish washer up in plain sight several times not a good impression when eating a meal. Ordered food at the counter, not clear process given. My friend's tea was forgotten and we had to remind the server. Food ok, not great, had loads of pepper put on my mushrooms had to leave them.Quite disappointed in the whole experience, probably not visit again.

went there couple times, cakes were always dry so guessing they dont sell too many. did mention it a couple of times and they offered another slice of something else but it puts tyou off]

Had a fabulous afternoon tea for a baby shower party. The tea was great , plenty of sandwiches , great scones and plenty of small cakes. Nothing was too much trouble with plenty of options id you didnt like tea !!! Would highly recommend.

Took my friend and her two kids to the father Christmas special this evening absolutely amazing, they done cup cake making decorating there box's. Loads of food and drink for the kids and out self... a brilliant father Christmas were the kids out a letter from Santa and a gift which was amazing. Every time I visit this little tearoom/cafe, it never disappoints, and today was no exception. Tried the full English today, which was plentiful, grease free and great value for money. The cakes are to die for. Very friendly, eager to please, staff. Will be returning again and again.

Nice cafe. Just one negative was that the coffee was much too hot and burnt my mouth. It wasn’t a take away so should have been ready to drink when served.

First time visiting this lovely little tea shop, met Ron the owner and he was lovely, we was running late and even tho he was closing at 330 he allowed us to come in at 325. I love afternoon tea and usually go up London or into Southend along the seafront, but after reading the reviews I wanted to try, I am so glad I did, sandwiches were nice and fresh, cakes were to die for, big portions so Ron allowed us to take the remaining cakes home. All was freshly baked in store. Also to top it off they had fresh tea with the strainers, would highly recommend and will defiantly be returning soon.

We took our grandson here for one of their cake making sessions. Everything was laid out ready for the children to make their cakes, it was extremely well organised but super friendly too. After they had mixed everything and the cakes were ready for the oven, the children were given cake boxes to decorate - great variety of stickers, letters etc, and after that they were given tea, which was a sandwich of any choice, smarties, Jaffa cake, raisins & wotsits, plus a drink. It was so well done - all the children really enjoyed it, and then they got to decorate their cakes with another large variety of toppings. While they were doing all this, we were able to have our tea & cakes too, which were lovely. Cannot recommend this tea shop enough - brilliant staff, very clean, and lovely cake!

Llevé a mi hija para un almuerzo tardío. Dieron una mesa enseguida como no estaba demasiado concurrido. Tenía un sandwich de gambas con pan granary. Fue muy agradable. El pan estaba super fresco y llegó con algunas patatas fritas. Gran precio. Las tartas parecía increíble pero estábamos tan llenos que tendremos que volver a probar!

Local tea and cake shop. Service is occasionally slow but the cake portions are always generous. Milkshakes and tea are always good.

Our very first visit was a little while ago, but I have been very remiss and kept it to myself. Completely selfish really, because this sort of gem should never be kept from anyone.

Can't pass this place by without stopping for a bacon roll, or two. Introduced my son to them recently and he is now a fan of the place. The tea shop staff are very friendly and the shop itself is very clean.

We have visited 3 times, 1st visit we found the service to be slow for a non busy period. 2nd time they messed up the order and kept my food warm why taking an age to cook some mushrooms to add to the plate, ended up with dreadful soggy toast , I did not ask to replace it as already taken forever to sort out the first mistake !.

I booked a "Chocolate Heaven Afternoon Tea" for myself and a friend which came to £24. We had 8 sandwiches (2 ham, 2 egg, 2 chocolate spread and 2 chocolate orange spead) 2 chocolate chip scones, (with 2 pots of clotted cream & jam), 4 chocolate covered strawberries, 2 mini cupcakes, 2 choclate brownies, 2 chocolate orange mini slabs, and lots of chocolate sweets, chocolate buttons and mini marsmellows. I had a pot of tea and my friend had a cup of coffee.

Been here a few times now. Food and drinks have always been very good! The cakes look amazing but I am yet to try one! Next time for sure though!!
