Clean rooms but here to praise the customer service skills of Steven on main reception. What an asset to cairn hotel and so helpful and kind. Thank you

Jesmond is a cool place. This hotel is slap bang in the middle. Great bar, didn't try the restaurant, but it looked interesting.

Scam - purposely misleading. This is a relatively long review so if you don’t read it all, just DON’T go for the king or superior king rooms! Or the triple rooms for that matter. We went for a “superior king” room over the “king” room as we have a little one that will occasionally not go down in her cot and need to come into the bed with us. When we got to the hotel, we were informed (by a very unenthusiastic clerk) that the hotel doesn’t have any king size beds. Bemused, we enquired about the name of the rooms, and why the king and superior king rooms were more expensive than the “classic” rooms and why they had the name “king” in the room. The clerk was short with us: “nowhere on the website does it say there is a king sized bed in any of the rooms”. We checked the website - it didn’t mention anything about the size of the bed and we understandably assumed a king size bed… We asked to be transferred to a triple room instead as this would meet our needs. We were then informed that it would cost us the same amount again for this room, despite this room being cheaper than the one we initially paid for when we looked online (there and then), via a popular hotel website. When we queried this, the clerk said we could have it for £10 cheaper if we knocked off the breakfast (that we already paid for with the “superior king” room…). She also informed us that the family rooms are all above the bar across the road!!!!? And that it was very VERY loud until around 11pm. She would not refund us the money for the room to pay for the triple room either as it was not within the 24 hour cancellation policy (which we’d never be able to do as we only found out when we got there about the rip off!) I can only assume that the rooms are labelled as such, to purposefully be deceptive. Other reviews have mentioned that part of the hotel is over the road so I won’t add that in here. We only gave the 3* for service as a lovely lady with blond hair seemed really nice the following morning. She saved us giving one start for this. The young lady’s customer service on the first day was among the worst I have ever experienced. It almost seemed like she was a relative of the owner, working for very little and being bitter about this. She basically told us that there was nothing we could do about being displeased. Breakfast was okay - not consistent but okay. Bacon seemed decent and there was a good selection of cereals and pastries. Definitely pay a bit more and visit one of the many other hotels or B&Bs in Jesmond, or at the very least, DO NOT pay more for a “king room” as it’s the same as the classic!!!

I certainly wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone was treated with zero respect no customer service whatsoever. Wasn’t aloud to go to my friends room for a chat when we weren’t causing any problems whatsoever. ! My friend also had booked a room for 2 people and was therself when we asked if we could go in and sit with him because he was himself and he has anxiety we we’re told yes at first then the night porter suddenly changed his mind and forced my friend out the room and made him sit himself. We Weren’t even aloud to sit at the reception area next to the bar and Talk too my friends !!! I would rather spend a night in jail than stay here again.

If there was a option I wouldn’t even give this place a star , We arrived very early to be told check in isn’t until 3 the woman kindly let us check in at 2 which I was grateful for but when we got to our room the cleaner was extremely loud I’ve autism and it censored me very much ! I was jet lagged and so tired also that night me and my Friends went out we knocked on one door as a joke and the next morning we got called by reception so we decided to check out the day before ! I’m extremely disappointed in my stay due to this been Newcastle and it’s suppose to be somewhere we can come to enjoy ourselves Do not recommend unless you want to be treated poorly

Stayed overnight at the beginning of January. Had to go back for 3 nights so booked in again. Clean, modern room. Plenty of hot water. Adjoining bar is lively with happy hour every afternoon/early evening. Soho restaurant where you can eat in the evening and a lovely breakfast. Buffet service but you can ask for eggs how you want them. Reasonable price too. Special mention for Steven on reception and Gani in the restaurant but all the staff were very friendly and helpful. The area is very nice with lots of hotels with bars and restaurants so something for everyone. Some nice little shops nearby. Very close to the city centre. We will deffinatly use this hotel again next time we're up in Newcastle.

I wrote to the cairn hotel about all of the following before reviewing, I gave them 4 weeks but they didn't respond. Firstly, at booking it was mentioned nowhere that the room was in a separate building 200 metres down the road. It was very inconvenient as it also meant that breakfast was in a completely separate building to my room down the street. The cleanliness of the room itself left much to be desired. There were several hairs on one of the pillows, which was extremely off-putting and made me question the overall cleanliness of the room and bedding. During the night, I was repeatedly woken by loud guests shouting, talking drunkenly, and slamming doors in the corridor. This disturbance lasted at least 20 minutes and was made worse by the lack of soft-close doors. I had understood there would be a night porter present in the building to manage such disruptions, but it seems this was not the case, or the issue was not dealt with promptly. Additionally, my room was directly above Spy Bar, and the noise level from the bar was very loud until 11 pm. This detail should have been clearly communicated at the time of booking, as it significantly impacted my ability to rest. I would not recommend staying at this hotel, not only were there several issues, the hotel could not be bothered to respond to them.

The hotel was a poor choice and I most certainly would stay there again. I should have read the reviews and it seems that many of them are highly questionable. Rooms are like cupboards where you cannot even walk around the bed. Really overpriced for what you get.

Hotel was chosen as location was convenient for the cancer hospital we were visiting. However, the room we stayed in needed some tlc and a more thorough clean. Couldn't use the bath as it wouldn't fill, as the plug didn't keep the water in. Bedside lights didn't work, no hairdryer in room as advertised, (requested one from reception), basin tap loose. Staff spread too thinly between 2 hotel sites, so we had to wait to check in. We weren't made aware that we weren't in the main hotel until after we had booked. The room was too hot to sleep in in Dec with the radiator off, window open, and the fan on all night. Need air-conditioning in those rooms. Requested to move rooms for 2nd night and had to pay the difference to upgrade or we were unable to be moved. Breakfast staff member was very pleasant. Recommend that you book a superior room and stay in main hotel, not the Carlton across the road if you stay here.

Pleasant and clean room. Shower room clean. Helpful staff. Parking was very tricky, recommended getting checked in early. Have paid more locally for much worse. Will be using this hotel again. Bar downstairs was very nice if a bit expensive. Breakfast was included and buffet style. Nice way to start the day.

Who knew a Wednesday eve in jesmond was a drunk fest?! I booked a “classic” room which unfortunately meant I was forced to go out of the hotel and down the road to their “sister hotel”. In the dark it was genuinely really hard to find, it didn’t give me the best first impression as there were loads of people sat inside the entrance in seats meant for hotel guests - which they weren’t. The room itself was adequately clean, small but had most things you’d need. It was warm, good shower. Sadly for me I didn’t sleep because the Sky bar downstairs was SOOOO loud, i could literally hear every word of each music track and feel the beat/base. Unfortunately I was also located above the door of the bar so it slammed at least every 30 seconds or more. The bar shut at 11pm but you could clearly still hear people downstairs shouting and making lots of noise. In the middle of the night one of the other guests ran along the corridor screaming and shouting which woke me and I didn’t get back to sleep. Not great for business as the next I was knackered for work. As there’s no staff on site it’s impossible to go ask for help. Definitely won’t be staying here again 😞

It is very well located. When we arrived they told us that we were at the hotel across the street, that is not the case, you have to cross the street and walk approximately one block with suitcases without anyone's help. A martyrdom Then, we had to climb stairs, without an elevator, carrying our suitcases again and without prior notice, another martyrdom. They have parking but don't regret it or have an urge to get it out because they put so many other cars behind it. The room was good, minibar, electric kettle. It was clean, there was only one used towel in the bathroom from previous guests. It looks like they forgot it.

Got a taxi there & he said you should of stayed in the town. He could not be more wrong. The room was superb & even though there was a sign for earplugs as there is a bar downstairs, I heard nothing. The breakfast was good & the service well the man poured the cup of tea. The downside is there are no lifts but there are rooms situated on the halfway stairs.

Room was clean, close enough to the airport which was what we wanted, put in another hotel above a bar that was noisy until 11pm, we had a young child and were up at 4 to get to the airport, not ideal but not knowing the area i didn't realise and although it does mention it, it's not really obvious that you may not stay in the hotel you booked.

I guess it’s an ok place for a bunch of drunk lads on a stag-do. Booked for one night and paid over £100. Once there, the room was dirty and looked battered with mould overgrown in the bathroom. The bed looked dirty and the place was loud and smelly. The reception staff showed us another two rooms that were equally off-putting. We ended up leaving and checked into another hotel. However, the guy at the reception was lovely and helpful - that’s the only reason why I’m still leaving 2 stars.

On arrival we were informed we weren't in the main hotel which was ok we were only staying 1 night to break up our trip... Following morning used the shower to find it was filthy. Informed the staff even showed them photo for to be dismissed no interest at all .. outside in carpark we spoke with another guest who had also complained.. Breakfast mediocre Would have added photo if it let me .. Such a shame really as the main hotel looked lovely and Jesmond is a lovely place to visit..

Absolutely disgusting, had checked in and found multiple different hairs across the bed and the room a state. Advised the hotel in which they said they would resolve it only to find the bedsheets were even more disgusting. Hotel stinks and the main door looks don’t work so security is a big risk. If you value cleanliness and safety book elsewhere.

Lunch time and didn't want to use the typical chain pastries places. Google to the rescue and soon was here and ordering. Both had baguettes that happened to be freshly made while we waited, no more than a couple of minutes. Has a very fast service but with more personality than your normaly sandwich shops. Very reasonable price, quick and tasty. For lunch, it's a no-brainer.
