If shabby was chic, then this place would score highly. There are some comfortable settees and armchairs, the rest bare chairs but thought of providing paper towels. Who cares aeverything looks and feels tired and well past the point where it should be retired. The coffee was good, served in a fairly perfunctory manner. Friendly service costs nothing except the tiniest effort. The toilets, yikes. While not necessarily dirty, they feel shabby and you just want to get out. But of course you wash your hands. No problem. But the hand drier was broken, a shabby note warned you. Staff had obviously notbout hygiene or standards? Well, I do and was not impressed. Good luck if you decide to visit. Remember, this is not a little family-run cafe but part of a big chain, so no excuse.

Nero have stopped using the grill that made their sandwich/ciabatta crisp and tasty. Now they have a microwave that produces a sogy mess in 30 seconds! What a shame that they made the choice of what us easiest for them over what is best. They will argue but one wouldn't here of the Italians serving the same.

Service was brilliant, the man was very multi tasky serving 2 at a time and engaging in conversation, being funny trying to sell his salted caramel cheesecake and making everyone laugh! Felt very welcoming and will go back again.... I need another vanilla latte!!!

Visited recently and whilst in the queue the barista was serving an elderly disabled man before me and took my order whilst doing so. He then proceeded to , quite rightly, help the gentleman with his change and also to navigate his way out of the shop - however what infuriated me was that whilst he was preoccupied with this he refused to allow his fellow barista to fulfill my order and told him to serve the customer behind me in the queue. I looked perplexed and he simply then asked me "to be patient as he was helping the elderly gentleman" - so it ended up that the person behind me got served before me and I very nearly didn't get a pastry I'd ordered because there was only one left and the person behind me, who was understandably disappointed that it was taken off him, wasn't happy either. By all means go the extra mile for your customers, but don't know why the colleague wasn't allowed to serve me ( he apologised and looked a bit embarrassed) - will not return to this coffee shop again - there is another Cafe Nero and many other equally good coffee shops in town.

It has become a nightmare buying coffee from a coffee shop in Canterbury....and getting what you ordered, or paid for! Seriously dudes, how difficult can it be to put S-O-Y-A milk instead of normal milk. Especially when the customer tells you twice! And how difficult is it to make the coffee in a Large cup, if that's what the customer ordered and paid for? You don't need a degree; you have no excuse really. But perhaps you'll be happy to know that Nero is not the only place struggling in that. It's just one more coffee shop with ridiculously bad service.

My family and I stopped off for a drink after a day out in Canterbury. The service was good, the staff were polite and efficient and our drinks were lovely. However, my daughter needed to go to the toilet and I was not impressed with the state of these facilities. The floor was wet and muddy, it smelled like they had not been cleaned for a least a couple of days, and if it was not for the fact that she was in desperate need for the toilet I would have walked straight out of there.

We visited this cafe whilst out Christmas shopping. The girl serving for our order wrong the first time, she then made a fresh cup, then spilt it so got her cleaning cloth and wiped the cup with it. I've visited this place every few months over the last few years and have watched it deteriorate steadily. For £9 we had 2 drinks and a small cake each. Slow, sloppy service delivered, oddly, in quite a friendly way. The trays were filthy. The floors gritting and soiled. Dirty chipped tables, peeling paintwork and minging toilets which were locked by staff moments before I needed to go. When eventually I was let in I went to dry my hands but the dryer malfunctioned. The coffee was acceptable, the food below par but my overall impression was enough to dissuade me from visiting again. The Nero/Starbucks/Costa formula is growing tired but this particular branch is now way past it's sell by date.

As someone who is in Canterbury every now and again, I've frequented most of the chain coffee places in the city, but this one has established itself as my first choice when I want the "big chain" coffee experience. The old, historic building certainly adds to the experience, and doesn't seem so cramp for space as some of the other chain shops. The upstairs is a large, unique room that is slightly different to your normal upstairs coffee shop. Downstairs has less seating but still retains as a nice setting. The coffee served up is consistently good, and the food is what you'd expect. The staff are always pleasant, polite and efficient. Overall, a lovely place to while away an hour or more over a couple of coffees and a good book or newspaper.

I thought I would try this restaurant for a snack and coffee and what a fantastic surprise was waiting for me, in the shape of a little lady called Allison, not for years have I had such service !!! she was so helpful and caring , she noticed I was disabled so she pick up my try and said "no sir allow me" and took the try to my table , then went and got sugar for my coffee , then she got me a paper and all the time she was talking to me with a big smile on her face, although the Coffee was out of this world and the Sandwich was mind blowing , which is very important !!, to me the Service is just as important, if not even more so . at lot of restaurants treat you as if you are on a conveyer belt. with a "here you are now bog off" attitude, so its wonderful to be served by someone like Allison . Nice ambience and friendly staff. Bagels..... But little else on offer. That said my crushed avocado 🥑 and smoked salmon was spot on. It just needs a menu that offers more variety..... Quiches, Homemade Soups would be great additions. Located in The Old Town Hall. Fully Licensed and Coffee/Cake for afters.

Very nice evening in a well run Pub. food was amazing. Staff very friendly and helpful, welcomed my 2 little dogs and even sorted a Taxi at the end of our evening. Highly Recommend.
