Caffè Nero in Gateshead

The service is Awful. Never been to somewhere service like this. Staff is rude and service is very slow

The place needs a good clean. Tables get cleared but don't get cleaned.

Staff were not nice seemed like they didn’t wanna serve us and proceeded to pretend like they didn’t hear us while they were talking just fine to another white man, also there was no ice available

Great coffee! I got some great coffee from here some great, had to queue for a bit but didn't mind, the coffee made up for it.

When we arrived today drinks could only be served in takeaway cups - there was nothing left behind the counter at only 2:30 and the place felt very dirty and untidy. Needs a deep clean. I observed a staff member emptying bins and then handling customer orders without washing hands. Even basic hygiene standards don’t appear to be in place.

Love Nero the service the products and the atmosphere.

Ordered two latte & 1 mokka took to long to receive our drinks hence by the time we got all 3 latte was luke warm

I suppose the most important thing about a coffee shop is that the coffee is GOOD 😊. I had a toasted sandwich thing as well which was also quite good .So was the chocolate cheesecake. I used to use Costa frequently... but haven't been back since they started using trans mastectomy images ... so Caffé Nero is now top of my list...while they steer clear of woke gimmicks. So, all good currently for cafe Nero except for one problem ...Strangely, your knives are AWFUL. While I am trying to cut my toasted sandwich in to finger food size, the sharp corners on the handle are drilling holes into the palm of my hand. Get some knives that live up to the rest of your standards!

Always enjoy Nero's coffee. The price increase of 20% in the last 18 months is a little high though. Staff are efficient and helpful and the only reason I'm not giving 5* is down to the terrible state of the outer concourse seating which is ripped old and tired. Won't stop me coming back but I witnessed a group a few weeks ago walk away due to the state of the outer seating .

Nice place but security need to do more about the teenagers hanging about casusing a nuisance especially during the week when it's quiet. Makes the whole experience a bit uncomfortable.

Great place for a good coffee and a chat very friendly staff

The hole place needs clean. Not staffs fault, appears to need a set of cleaners in. Fixtures and fittings dirty full of dust and food waste. It's a shame I love the coffee. Staff always friendly and happy to help.

Stopped for 2 adult coffees. Small person got the caramelised biscuit chocolate vegan cheesecake (allergic to milk and nuts so a great option). He rated it "the best thing ever... buy me more". No better review than that really.

A nice spot for coffee while doing some shopping, much better than the bear by Costa which seems to be busier every time I visit, big seating area

Incorrect order given even after confirming twice. Confused the orders so regular cow's milk was given instead of oat milk and no syrup in one of the coffees.

as with all cafe Nero a much nicer atmosphere than other coffee establishments.

First class flat white and great food

Lovely coffee. Some of the staff are lovely and friendly however other members of staff could smile a bit more and look more approachable.

We have been here a few times. Good food bit slow and the card machine hasn't been cleaned in a few years.... I could have written my name in the dust and grime. I did point it out to the staff who served me. And they said they would clean it.... Time will tell 😂

Lovely break during shopping trip. Lemon 🍋🍋🍋 cheesecake is always a winner plus excellent latte.

I'd rate it good. Great selection of cakes, coffee is strong. Service is also good, and the seating area gives off a good vibe x. I go here all the time with my family, would definitely recommend.

2 staff working tables not clear long queues Sunday peak day crazy. 15 min wait.

Caffe Nero metrocentre. Always looks nice inside, well kept. Range of drinks (coffees, teas, coolers, fruit drinks are of good variation and always of a high quality) I especially enjoy this place over the xmas period when they bring out the cans range of drinks. Never yet tried the food here, though it is not limited to the usual fare of cakes and biscuits as they do a range of hit and cold sandwiches.

Maybe small, worth the short wait. Excellent choice of beverages, fresh cakes and sandwiches. Very busy, staff kept on top of clearing tables and serving

Got a Sicily lemon meringue cheesecake and a shop assistant put it nicely in a box for my wife's birthday free of charge. It tastes very good. Grateful! ❤

Abysmally slow service. Staff working at a snails pace.

Popped in before work for my usual Americano coffee, but a salted caramel chocolate cheesecake grabbed my attention! Was early so cafe was quiet, good choice of drinks and snacks, but quite pricey inline with other metro center outlets

Very slow and disorganised busy and not enough team members

Same experience as in Cental Station Caffe Nero. Horrible company. Worked there for 4 years. Employees are forced to sell old pastries by their store managers. The area manager Kirsten Howorth and the whole HR team was protecting bullies when I tried to report the mental torture I was experiencing from the store manager. I have left this company after the managment did the bare minimum to resolve this situation. Shame on them.

Sadly this is the second time we wanted cheese and ham toasties at around 2pm in the afternoon and both nero upper level and lower level had none so after being regulars at nero we are going to eat at Costa coffee instead in future

Great service and excellent quality of food and beverages, brilliant.

Consistently the best coffee of any of the high street chains. The cortado is always to notch. I also find the service at Nero is more genuine and friendly rather than the often scripted interactions elsewhere with the only objective being to up sell food. To me Nero is a haven when I'm on a day out at the MetroCentre.

As far as large chain coffee places go cafe Nero is pretty good. This particular cafe is excellent and its staff are great.

The staff are friendly and helpful. However, the last couple of visits here, the cups and plates look grubby and stained. The seating areas outside the unit within the mall are also not cleaned and wiped down thoroughly. The seats that we had, in-between the cushions, were full of food waste/crumbs that appeared to have accumulated over a period of time. This has put us off from using this coffee shop in the future.

This Cafe Nero on the top floor near the Red Mall is better than the other one in the Yellow Mall.

Nice until my non-dairy coffee got contaminated with dairy milk after informing the barista I want a non-dairy oat milk, please be aware this is a serious condition not to be played with......NERO..safety don't use the same blender for both dairy and non-dairy customers

Unfriendly guy servicing us. He gave the same drink to the girl behind us and give her a full glass but only 3/4 and was half ice. I couldn't taste any of the cherry in it but got charged 50p for 1 pump. Could see the pink in the other girl's drink but I guess it's because she was wearing a crop top. The music was too loud to hear each other speak and it was boiling and really dark. Were sitting in but he gave take away cups and had to ask for a glass. Wouldn't recommend.

Café Nero like all high street coffee shops are busy, this one on a Tuesday morning wasn't overly busy, but it was still difficult to find a clear table, but that was easily solved just moved the previous person's crockery to one side, 😀... Cafe Nero coffee I feel is the best out of the main stream coffee shops and food is always high quality, just employ someone to clear the tables please, it's my main gripe with all Cafe Nero shops.

It's even beter if you have the 3app which gets you any coffee for £1, includes specials/seasonal latte's etc etc...read the TC

Enjoyed the new iced cherry latte but service was very slow

Decided to try this place for a coffee with a catch up with an old friend. We both enjoyed our hot drinks and sitting in the seating area outside the café was nice as well.

I visited this cafe shop today every things was okey but it’s good if the stuff smiled instead of frown face thanks .

The best coffee shop in the metrocentre.

Been for a coffee, 1/3/23, and thought service was very slow. Had 5 people ahead in the queue with 2 people serving. Waited 20 minutes to get served. Don't think it's expecting too much to get served a bit quicker.

Bought a toastie and sadly the toaster is not functioning properly, got a toasted grilled top and a hard dried-out slice at the bottom. Sadly one only discovers this after the first bite. Seriously understaffed it's apparent. Cups that are chipped on three or more times, so this isn't a one-off with the self-service table understocked, so one has to wait in line asking for a stirring spoon. Café Nero, I'm sure your profits exceed your expenses, so please brush up on your store because I'll be back and will review your shop on many platforms until it sinks in by your probably overpaid management.

An excellent place to drink all kinds of coffee

One of my favourite coffee shops in Durham, yes it's a chain coffee shop but the staff and atmosphere is perfect for Durham, only negative it sometimes gets very busy and when short staffed it's a wait for a coffee.

Go every year when I'm xmass shopping. This year noticed the place looking dirty and worn. The seats are stained and very dirty, floors looking the same. It's not the staffs fault, it just needs a re-fit.

Lovely cappuccino. Was able to have squirt cream on top. Such a nice atmosphere

So pleased they have opened in the Metro as personally I think its the best Coffee around, keep it up, I nocked one star of service as the staff member that served me was a bit miserable but didn't detract from the coffee.

Ridiculously slow service! Venue was really busy but staff didn't appear to acknowledge size of the queue. Manger left to go on break whilst queue remained out the door when the staff would clearly benefit from the additional support. Our particular member of staff could benefit from additional training - they were 3x less productive compared to their colleagues, able to have chats with staff whilst serving us & we had to request to remake hot drink as they left it at machine to go cold. Member of staff clearing tables was most efficient team member which at least meant there was a seat for everyone after their 25+ mins queuing

First time here, and was busy - but where isn't now! Seating inside shop and outside in metrocentre mall- plenty too. Only had coffees & a pastry. Would come back.

Bit miffed at their seasonal offering of Black Forest hot chocolate, available in a vegan option. Looked delicious so I went for it. The member of staff made it, but without the creamy topping. The chalkboard shows vegan creamy topping as an option for other drinks too, so I was surprised that this shop doesn't stock it. Rubbish advertising, don't show a drink you can't provide, it'll just disappoint. Shame as otherwise I've always liked Nero.

Big sign for Vegan Hot Chocolate. Asked for it, she made the chocolate then said "sorry we don't stock the vegan cream here". What's the point of advertising it and taking my order only to give me the chocolate without the trimmings. Server completely oblivious as to why that might be annoying then tutted because I didn't want the hot chocolate when she said they didn't have the vegan cream.

Really good tasty sandwiches. One of the best coffees around and the specials really are special. Staff were polite and efficient but could smile a bit more.

Pretty good all over. Downside is between last and existing visit Latte went up from £2.70 to £3.10. And that in less than 3 weeks time.

Waited for far too long to get served, after ten minutes or so I walked out when I watched a member of staff drinking his coke while the queue of people waited.

Pleasant to be able to sit outside in the main area of the metrocentre what let's it down but time is that the metrocentre thinks one Is a reptile and love to sit in sub tropical heat. I have complained many times and I have been told various stories .no wonder the place is heading the same way as Royal Quays.

Excellent cup of coffee, during a break from shopping. Service a little slow to be honest but only 2 staff serving!

This place is a decent option for a cuppa while shopping in the Metrocentre.

Coffee: Great Food: Good Staff: Work their socks off! So why only 3 stars you may ask... Simply because the way the business is operated results in unacceptable delays in actually getting served - think queue times in excess of 30 minutes. People actually give up waiting and leave. This is not an isolated experience. What business can afford to let that happen these days?

change the bartenders! really slow, unnecessarily cumbersome, without a smile and they get lost in chatting with each other instead of serving the customer and offering a fast and professional service. Things to do there would be given that the place is always dirty and without the slightest care. A real shame because the cafe is decent, but it serves serious people.

1st time in caffè nero and the coffee was good. However, the seating area was dirty, crumbs etc from previous customers I can accept on a weekend when the place is busy, but I'm talking coffee stains splashed up walls/divider and a thick layer of dust over surfaces. Also, without any instruction or being informed my toasted sandwich was taken out of the oven and put on a small collection table right at the kitchen entrance, which also happens to be not far from the toilet entrance. It sat there for a few minutes while coffees were made before the girl told us it was ours.

Decent place to pick up a coffee whilst in the Metro Center. The queues weren't too long and service was quick and friendly.

Disappointing, it was really busy and it seemed like 2 ppl working the tills and 1 person working like a lunatic making the drinks wrong, ordered 4 drinks and they were missing either topping, or not enough ice so were running. But what can u expect when he is trying to make drinks and the 2 ppl working the till are just telling what other drinks need making or they are handing him toaties to warm up.

Roomy, and lots of seating, decent coffee but pricey food. Then again they ALL are.

Great coffee and food but sadly the cleanliness of the shop was the let down. The tops of wooden counters were covered in dust and due to only two staff and long queues, the number of unclean tables quickly went up.

I like the coffee and brownie. There's a loyalty card available too.
