Caffè Nero in Kingston upon Hull, City of

I visited this café recently, hoping for a relaxing coffee break. Unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing. 🧼 Cleanliness is a serious issue here – the floor was visibly dirty, with crumbs and debris all around the tables. The wooden surfaces were stained and neglected, and the water container (used for self-service or staff use) was dusty and had visible grime inside. 🪑 The furniture may look rustic, but in reality, it felt unkept and unhygienic. Sitting near the windows, I could see more dirt accumulation around the edges of the room. ☕ The coffee and pastry were acceptable, but honestly, it’s hard to enjoy anything when the surroundings feel dirty. ⚠️ I would not recommend this café until they take proper measures to improve hygiene. Cleanliness should never be optional in a food-serving establishment.

TOILET – COMPLETE DISASTER 🚫 I went into the toilet at this café in the UK and immediately wanted to leave. The smell was disgusting, there were tissues all over the floor, filth around the toilet, and the sink looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. How is anyone supposed to use the bathroom in here when it smells like that and looks like a run-down public toilet? For a place that serves food and drinks, this level of hygiene is shameful. If this is how the bathroom looks, I don’t even want to imagine what the kitchen’s like... 📸 Just look at the pictures and judge for yourself. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone – not even for a quick coffee. 👎

The staff were very friendly and delivered professional customer service. Ordered a large latte. You couldn’t taste the coffee it was so weak, tasted of hot milk and water. Left it, won’t be back.

It's a Nero's so you know what to expect. Convenient location outside St Stevens and station but other than that very typical.

Dirty tables. Place would benefit from tray return location, as staff have no time to clear and wet wipe the tables.

The most delicious coffee, exquisite pastries. City center, excellent location. Good access for disabled people and mothers with strollers. Excellent service. By the way, in acceptable weather you can sit outside. There are plenty of tables.

All the time I enjoyed the coffee and the good vibe given by the staff .

Great place to meet for a coffee

Was once a lovely place with good friendly staff. Sadly now there new members and it has really gone down hill. Constant signs saying due to unforeseen circumstances we are opening 15 mins late, or I'm sorry the coffee machine is still warming up, would you mind waiting 15 mins? Perhaps as staff get there on time yourselves! Go one day and get a cup of air next day go and get a drink that is too weak, it's like a lottery of what drink your going to get. That's if the they get it correct in the first place. Three to four new employees have made this once great place into nothing more than an overpriced slum. It once had regulars, now you see they have gone to the other Nero shop or Starbucks or Costa near by. It shouldn't and needn't have been like this. After a loyal customer for years, it's no longer acceptable. You can't keep increasing the price whilst the standard keeps decreasing. I don't even think they have the will or want to change it. I get the feeling some of the baristas don't really care or know they are running it into the ground. Perhaps they'll only realise when they've lost all their customers, sadly I fear even then the penny won't drop. Avoid, especially at the moment. May try again in a few months and give them a chance to redeem themselves.

Visited today with my dad. Bearing in mind it's the festive season and it was busy, we were served quickly :) the staff seemed friendly enough and I did feel for them with it being so busy. The drinks were good, the vegan roll was lovely as always 😋

Caught an early bus to Hull as had an appointment at Hull Royal.Arrived way too early so called at Cafe Nero.Great Cafe to call at.Huge range of coffees,teas.Perfect place for an early morning bacon sarnie and a pot of tea.The range of drinks, snacks, food etc is very hard to beat, especially as prices are very very reasonable.Extremely helpful and pleasant staff, thank you for carrying the heavy tray to our table.Very popular place, recommend a visit.

Once a good place to get a coffee, now the stores I visit are old, tried, need a good clean, and refresh. The service again once good,speedy and friendly is now slow,uncaring and you're lucky if you get eye contact yet alone a smile. The company has fallen and they don't seem to care.

I appreciate that many places are dog friendly these days but don't expect the staff to be petting dogs then going back to serving food without wasting hands !!!! Yuk !

Nice little cafe Nero just outside Hull interchange. Cafe Nero my go to cafe anywhere. Always friendly staff no matter where in country. Their training ethos is second to none. Highly recommended

Cashier told me to “Get it right next time” when i asked to replace my drink (I needed a sugar free drink when i got served a sugar drink.) I have come here nearly my whole life and this is the worst service i have ever gotten in here.

I buy the same coffee every time.sometimes I pay 7.10 sometimes 7.30I told the employees why?I told the employees why?you buy takeaway I always buy takeaway why charge me Sam time 7.10and sometimes7.30 to strange

I like the coffee from here, however they never seem to have enough staff and the wait time can be horrendous. I wouldn't mind waiting for amazing coffee but whilst it's nice, it's nothing special and (like all of the chains) overpriced. Last time I went though, from the queue I watched a young blonde girl (the only one actually serving behind the counter) time and time again putting her fingers inside the cups when she handed them, this is not OK, in fact it's vile.

Only there for a short bit, but great service none the less. Caffé Nero do really good iced Caffé Latte's, I went with the Pistachio Iced Latte this time, and held up that tradition well.

Very good coffee, but the tables are always not cleared, you have no place to sit, you have to pull yourself from the table to get a free seat, credit that the staff leaves much to be desired.

Asked for a caramel iced frappe (I always ask for this and receive the correct thing), the woman said I asked for something over ice but I did not. When I asked for another drink she went in a mood and said that I’d asked for multiple different drinks and should be asking for a specific thing. Her attitude was appalling to a paying customer that never usually has an issue asking for the caramel iced frappe and getting what they ordered.

In a really good spot and very clean. The staff are always extremely welcoming and the coffee is priced reasonable and tastes great!

The cafe was really busy and struggled to get a seat indoors but one thankfully came free. There are lots of seats outside but the weather was good enough to sit out. Had the coffee which we enjoyed, didn't have any food so can't comment on that. It was the standards you would expect from a chain.

Good little nero. But alot going on in such a small space. It's not very well laid out and isn't a particularly nice place to hang out if it's busy. Not exactly relaxing but can't fault the staff or products

Just ordered 4 x sandwiches, 4 x drinks, 4 x cake. Just asked the server for a serviette and I was given one! I asked for more, and she quizzed me as to how many drinks we had ordered!! She said that she did not have enough serviettes to go round. We have spent £40. How rude. Poor admin is not my problem. Customer service? Rude lady

Great place on the forecourt of St Stephens Mall in Hull. Plenty of outside seating for these glorious sunny days and plenty for those not so great days. Staff were polite and very quick although they were very busy. Great news they did de- caffeinated which I (duh) did not expect. Will definitely visit again.

I really enjoy going there for my hot chocolate

We had a great time..coffee n ambience was good but I found some of staff members were rude with us as we were just hanging out with friends but they didn't like it..as it is a coffee shop people usually come there to just chill out with family or friends..I personally very disappointed with their today's behaviour.

I recently visited the Coffee Nero location in Hull and enjoyed a tasty cup of coffee. However, I must note that the cleanliness of the shop left something to be desired. Despite the good coffee, the state of the shop was a bit disappointing. As a frequent customer, I hope that the management takes note of this and makes improvements to ensure a more hygienic and welcoming environment for all patrons.

I love this coffee house. The ambience is calm in a Danish hygge, dark wood, subdued stylish lamplight, sparse but soft fabrics sort of way, and there's natural light. The best coffee from a chain in this city, hands down. The service is amiable and efficient, above and beyond what I have found elsewhere.

My daughter popped in yesterday with my grand children, the lady serving was very rude, an elderly gentleman approached the counter with some pots (as all tables were full of pots) and asked if she could take them, she replied NO and proceeded to speak rudely to the gentleman who scurried off with the pots. Not a very good first Impression.

First visit for me. Was very impressed with everything including an unusually flavoured sausage roll with parma ham.

Took my 7 year old in as she wanted to try a frappe. The staff were so lovely to her. Made her laugh and really went to extra mile to make her happy.

Hot chocs are the best from here. Such a nice comfy , warming place to sit with a nice hot drink

All I can say is the gentleman that works there in the Hull branch outside St. Stephens that is bubbly and really friendly deserves a pay rise, knows his stuff on coffee and tried to convince me to buy the Danish. Put a smile on our faces for the rest of the day.

It was good the deserts are actually better but the drinks are great if you want a drink definitely get one here if it's close to you and the sandwiches are on another level everything is super good here definitely recommended However the place is a bit small due to it being really busy and the interior (sofas,tables) are bad they need improving they are getting old and worn and it isnt as comfy as a normal sofa the place is quite cramped which isnt that good

I’ve been using this coffee shop since it’s opening and in all the time I’ve never had such bad service as I’ve had the last couple of months, couple of the female staff are so rude have no customer service skills, and seem to think they can serve people coffee that tastes burnt and muddy. And talk to customers in such a bad manner. First it was burnt tasting coffee’s and then it was getting my orders wrong. Now it’s bad attitude. Two women yesterday one blonde one brunette both really bad attitudes, one woman shouting at customers like it’s cattle and the other clearly not listening to customers orders getting them wrong and when told the order was for a takeaway the member of staff blamed the customer in front of a line of people, and frankly it was really bad taste. So rude. So meny people are complaining about there bad attitudes but nobody puts a review so here I am. Get a better attitude and customer service skills or get a new job! There are some lovely people working there that really deserve a fantastic review. But unfortunately these particular bad members of staff are stealing the spotlight. I really don’t like going there anymore me and my friends walk past to see who’s working before deciding to go in.

Great coffee and good selection of snacks (although these are quite pricey). Staff are lovely and I tend to pop in most weeks. The cafe itself is clean but tables are not always cleared very quickly and the toilet is often dirty.

Drinks were a bit strong even though were supposed to be decaffeinated coffee! The barista was very friendly and a bit of a character.

Came in to get an iced cinnamon swirl latte and both the drink and staff were amazing, they were so bubbly and kind and made my day, the atmosphere is also nice, love it here

They put chocolate chips on your hot chocolate! It's the only Neros I know that do it and it's fab!

The most important thing that I can evaluate the restaurant is the service. I had the worst service from curly guy.

Staff were friendly despite one moaning it was his day off. The technology was faulty so trying to pay was difficult and we had to clean our own table to be able tosit down due to how busy it was. It was about 4pm and it looked like the whole place could have done with a bit of a spruce up. Coffee was nice.

The staff were great. Really busy, but giving it loads of energy. I wouldn't normally bother with a review for a quick cup of coffee, but the guy who served me really cheered me up after a difficult day. They need to make the tip jar more obvious! I ended up leaving my tip on the table, but I'm pretty sure someone nicked it before the staff could get to it. Sorry guys.

Visit was ok drinks were good. Till was not working and there was an offer for a free drink if you downloaded the app. Which was very misleading you have to purchase drinks before you're entitled to the free one.
