Called in for a week day Light lunch - jacket potato and a toastie. Over £16 with drinks. Minimal filling of beans and cheese in the potato and chewy bread for the toastie. Minimal side salad garnish so I pinched hubby’s before photo. Tables needed clearing and still hadn’t been cleared by the time we left. Empty cutlery and napkin holders and pieces of dirt in the bottom as seen as empty. One staff member just replenished without wiping first - YUCK. Staff pleasant and polite. Decor lovely. Seating comfortable. Not in a rush to return

Esperaría algo mejor de House of Fraser.

These are hard times for the retail high street and relevant department stores. The collapse of the much loved but atrociously managed 'BHS' has been followed by warnings for both 'House Of Fraser' and 'Debenhams'.One positive in this negative scenario may be the malls which always seem to be busy. One such example is 'Meadowhall' in Sheffield. (See my review 'The New Heart Of The Steel City'). Who knows however what pit falls may lie ahead. We visit regulary at approx 10.15am in order to park easily and shop at a more relaxing pace.We always call in at 'Cafe Zest' in 'House Of Fraser' for breakfast having used their upper car park. It is buffet style with good fresh choice and accompanying value. One down side is usually the toast which takes like cardboard if left for a while! Ask for fresh and they always oblige. The food is usually tasty and if there are any concerns they are always rectified. In the past we used to call for early evening dinner as they had a specially priced menu. This vanished along with resultant potential diners.(Note to management-'Bring it back please') Despite all the negativity surrounding the retail industry a visit to 'Cafe Zest' at 'House Of Fraser' Meadowhall offers - 'A BRIGHT START'

No hay mesas claras en absoluto. Las mesas están todas sucias. Tuve que pedir un trapo. Copas sucias. No tenedores. Desayuno frío. No hay disculpa por vasos sucios. Servilletas racionadas. ¡Terrible!

I've never been to a cafe before that rations the napkins. Thought it was a one off, maybe they were running low that day. Nope, came back a couple months later and the woman was still guarding the napkins behind the till. Very strange policy at a place where you pay £8 for a sanwhich meal. Tried giving them another chance but if they're being that tight with the napkins I can only imaine the cutbacks they're making in the kitchen. Won't be going back sorry.

Had a great afternoon tea here on Saturday. The tea was lovely and came with a lovely fresh scone with a generous portion of jam and clotted cream each. Staff were attentitive and were very helpful bringing my daughters ice cream over when she had finished here children's meal. Would definitely come again and a peaceful location.

Called here on a average winter day in February (not the freezing weather we've just had) 11.30am coffees before hitting the shops but even with our coats on it was very cold and our drinks went cold very quickly.the poor cold staff told us it was usually cold in the restaurant in winter, something needs to be done about this The staff were lovely and service efficient.

Went for lunch with my wife and quite simply I wish I hadn't what a disaster. Fish Pie covered with dry crispy mash potato, veg which was Luke warm to cold and so called roast potatoes which had grown a second skin like leather after sitting far too long under the lamps. This is one place to avoid if you have a choice, House of Frazer promotes itself as an upmarket store "what happened to the food" I would be doing an injustice to any greasy spoon if I compared food in this establishment to their food. Now I know that House of Frazer would never stoop to enter into a dialogue about this subject, I challange them to do so and give valid reasons for a second chance, will they do so I wait with baited breath, come on House of Frazer speak to me, just respond and I will give you my mobile number and then give you a second chance.

We went to Cafe Zest yesterday for Sunday lunch whilst shopping in Meadowhall. The service was brilliant, notably from a female staff member with blonde hair wearing a black skirt; friendly and attentive throughout (didn't catch her name but deserves recognition). We both opted for the roast beef and it was delicious. Would happily return here and are looking forward to trying the other meals on the menu. Would highly recommend Cafe Zest based on the fantastic service and great food.

I often wonder if the bosses and managers of big concerns like House of Fraser ever get to read the comments and the criticism therein of their in-house catering outlets! I think not otherwise something would have been done about them and this one in particular. In Meadowhall yesterday and just fancied a few bitings of some sort after a less than brilliant late lunch/early dinner the other side of Sheffield. Popped into House of Fraser after seeing a poster for a salad dish at their entrance that looked quite nice. Found this Cafe Zest tucked away in a corner and immediately thought that it was hidden away for some reason! Anyway, looked deserted with just one assistant cleaning the serving area and lots of empty display cases and barren customer seating. Asked the assistant what time they had closed, thinking it must gave been some time ago and the reply was that they were open still for another 75 mins! So what had they got at this time - very little, it appeared. No salads, sandwiches and just a choice of two cakes to pick from and drinks. I suppose that there were packaged biscuits etc as well but didn't notice them. Chose hot chocolates and a cherry topped chocolatey piece of cake for us to share. Apart from the very pleasant server/cleaner, nothing deserved writing home about. The hot chocolates were hot but not piping hot as we prefer. The flavour was not really nice at all but we couldn't really identify what was wrong. Just not right! We have drinks made with Cadbury's hot chocolate powder every night and look forward to them but we'd never have them again at Cafe Zest. The cakes seemed old and were pretty tasteless. We like chocolate cakes but the cherries were an awful addition to a rubbish "treat". The Loyalty card given was straight in recycling when we got home as we would never go here again. House of Fraser, you need to sort this place out! Reading these posts, it us obvious that many find Cafe Zest pretty hopeless and it reflects badly on the store as a whole. Would have given it a terrible rating but the server was very nice!

Ordered fish and chips and meat and potato pie. One of the worst meals we every ordered. Had better meals in transport cafes!! The fish was cheap slimy and tasteless [chips and peas ok] The pies, pastry raw in the middle and the meat, hard and tough. Total waste of £14.00. The staff are friendly and the coffee good, but the most important factor ( the chef) Would not even get a job making Hospital slop. This was confirmed by another couple from Ilkley who ordered the same meal and the two women on the next table who left 2/3's of the afternoon tea. Very very poor

My daughter and I went into zest at Meadowhall today for some lunch.i had a tuna sandwich with mint and yoghurt dressing.when I stared to eat it it was very dry, when I looked inside the sandwich it had. no butter on it and the tuna was all put to one end to make it look like there was a lot of Tuna in it.it was awful very dry and tasteless.my daughter went and fetch one of the waitress and asked if she. Could change it.she asked me what was wrong I told her it was very dry and there was no butter on the bread ,she said they don't put any. butter on the bread because some people may be allergic to it.what a load of rubbish if anyone was allergic to butter, they would ask for a sandwich without butter surely.you don't have to leave all the sandwich's without butter on them.in my opinion this is just a money saving exercise. Also therewas just a load of wet lettuce on the plate not nice.she did ask if I wanted a replacement and so I decided to have egg mayo well this was as bad as the other they did put some spread on the bread but it wasn't butter had a bit of it and left the rest I will never go in this place again.NOT RECOMMENDED

As a regular morning visitor to the cafe we are always extremely happy with service and breakfast provided. I was initially reluctant to complete this revue because I do not want customers to think the worst. However we have also got to let businesses now when we feel improvement is required. On Tuesday 4th October my wife and I were at Meadowhall and visited Cafe Zest for lunch. I ordered meat and potato pie which consisted of the tiniest bit of meat in a gravy topped with a piece of puff pastry. Sorry but whoever prepared this needs to learn the basics because this was certainly not meat and potato pie. My wife had chips and fish which was cold and had awful fish in a unbeatable batter. The waitress saw that we left the majority of the meals and asked if all was ok. We explained our dissatisfaction and she apologised. I presume that our complaint went no further so we left having wasted £16.

Whenever visit Meadowhall always go here, whether for tea & toast or for lunch. Never too busy & a relaxing atmosphere. Not a lot of choice but always good. On one occasion it wasn't and the food was inedible, the staff could not have been more helpful, apologised and gave me a full refund and a free drink for next visit. If you want something that is not in menu, always ask because if they can accommodate the request they will.

Very nice setting, some of the staff are welcoming and friendly. Some need further customer training! Very poor attempt at breakfast whether it is supposed to be a "Yorkshire Breakfast" or not. 6 item breakfast, consisted of over cooked eggs, mushrooms that were over cooked, beans that had congealed lumps in, hash browns that had baked under the heat and a burnt bit of toast. Not sure that this is what any breakfast should be turned out like. Very disappointing. As for the scrambled egg, if you like extra crunch from shell then you will love this. The egg was wet, the toast was not buttered, had to ask for this.Would of expected more from House of Fraser. Shame as the staff are busy, helpful but has been seriously let down by the standard of food.Could have been we visited on a bad day, but still room for improvement.

Each time I visited with my partner and each time different staff members provided excellent customer service, allowing us time to decide, and each time making us both a sandwich by request, instead of ready-made. The tea and cappuccino were also good quality and the sandwiches and cakes very fresh and tasty. The prices are fine and the environment is quiet and friendly, with plenty of space and comfortable seating. Even when busy, the staff are only too happy to help, including wrapping up food to take home. Great place to stop for a quiet drink while shopping at Meadowhall

What a lovely place to sit and something to eat. The decor is very original giving history and pictures of old Sheffield. Quotes on the wall from famous local people. Some waitresses run around, others are on a walk. Quickly cooked dishes, but that we wait we want to eat of good quality. I think that it's not a robot but people prepare meals. Family corporation forget that you exist is for us and not we for you. Do you want to earn money for augmenting the family and business, ok, great, but not at the expense of working people. After your dishes, you can see that a lot and want to give very little. It is cheaper elsewhere, and tastier, could more people were employed there?

This is a well designed cafe with some quirky artwork and wall designs. It is bright and cheerful yet a relaxing space away from the hustle bustle of shoppers. I was served quickly and the staff were helpful and friendly. The pricing is comparable with other cafes and food is cheaper than M&S. The choice was minimal but sufficient. My coffee was served quickly and was quite lovely.

I visited Zest last Friday for lunch after a busy morning shopping. I decided to have the Vegetarian option 'Butternut Squash Risotto' at £7-95. When it finally arrived it was a small bowl of rice with five shrivelled up tomatoes and three small cubes of butternut squash! When I complained to the waitress she asked if I would like something different to eat. After refusing she offered me a refund which I accepted and then left to eat elsewhere!

Visited zest for a quick light lunch, ordered two chicken Caesar salads at £7 each, to start with the service was rubbish staff looked very miserable and unwelcoming, when the salads came both of them had brown dried up lettuce in, some pieces were brown and sloppy enough to give you an upset stomach, the chicken was poor quality, there was 2 crouton sticks on the side which were soft and soggy from being sat all day, we sent them back but there was no sorry about that I will get you a fresh one, they just snatched them and took them into the kitchen, after quite a wait the waitress brought two new salads once again no apology or compensation, by this time my mums coffee was cold and I had finished my drink but didn't want to order another as they were expensive in the first place. Would never recommend zest to anyone rubbish!!

Standard Nando-chain restaurant. It was quite busy as it was a Saturday evening and the food took quite a while. Ordering through an app, which I prefer to having to talk to a waiter. Food is the same as in other Nando-places. If you like chicken then you'll like this. If not, then there are not that many choices.
