Cafe Vivo in Edinburgh, City of

Food and service great. But on paying bill, im asked to pay a service charge. Never heard of this before. Expensive enough already. Cheek !

The food was expensive for what it was and felt like it had been bought at a supermarket and then just thrown in the oven. I had haggis pie and mash potato. The haggis was the worst I've had and again tasted like it had been bought at a cheap supermarket, while the mash potato had the consistency of play dough. You could literally roll it into a ball in your hand and play with it. The pastry tasted cheap and was rubbery with a round piece of haggis inside, nothing else. No gravy or sauce. The other meals, such as the fish and chips, was breaded fish that I dont think even captain birds eye would have approved of. Would not recommend at all.

Was there twice, once for fish & chips, once for a ham sandwich. Portions are large, it tasted good, nice service and the prices are ok (Edinburgh is an expensive city)

Came here every day for 3 days, great coffee, good portions, amazing prices lovely service and they remembered us every day we returned - highly recommended

We had mac and cheese once, delicious arabita pasta, and delicious fish n chips. The food was tasty and the staff were nice

Nice bistro with a large selection of Scottish food. I ate the Scottish breakfast and was surprised at the variety. Black pudding, haggis, scones, baked beans, mushrooms, toast & butter👌

Very rude, without any interest in serving or understanding. They charged us to heat the milk that was served to us warm. Very expensive, more than in nearby places that are much more professional

Great haggis roll! Tried Irn Bru also upon their recommendation. Very friendly staff.

Lovely atmosphere at the heart of Edinburgh. The Apple pie was very good, and the owner is very friendly and polite.

A nice simple cafe on the main road. Excellent customer service. The grilled lamb was cooked perfectly and flavorful. Nice milk shakes and coffee. The mince meat pie was a bit small and not much flavor. The steak pie had more flavor but was a bit small, no soggy bottom on the crust. The fries were pretty good, not greasy (but could of been a bit hotter). The cheese cake was tasty and the Victoria sponge cake was just ok. Indoor and outdoor seating. The salads looked very good. No beers on tap just a few cans.

I really recommend this restaurant and cafe, the food was prepared very quickly and was very tasty and excellent. I really recommend this cafe to everyone. It has the fish and chips and wonderful foods.

Stopped there after we went to Hollywood house. Food was very average. Everything we ordered was bland and not tasty. Salmon was not cooked well, Avocado toast which is usually easy to make in general was also very oily and had spinach over it. Not worth the money, time or calories.

Friendly cafe, went for breakfast while on a weekend break. Great coffee.

Some typical stuff but not of great quality.

Stopped into this cafe looking for afternoon tea after hiking Arthur's Seat and before our train would carry us South. Was very appreciative of the staff's kindness and attentiveness throughout our time. We ordered some simple sandwiches and tea and were not disappointed at all. Made the last little bit of our time in Edinburgh very pleasant overall.

Had a lovely breakfast here, the staff was super nice and quick and the food delicious! I really recommend the avocado on toast.

Hello good! I highly recommend this place, especially to Spaniards looking to have toast for breakfast! The place is cozy, the workers are very nice and the food is very abundant. Don't be fooled by the appearance on the outside, it is one of the best places we have had breakfast!

Excellent and abundant breakfast of toast and hot chocolate. It is a simple, but cozy place, with very attentive and polite staff. The site offers much more than the impression that it can give you from the outside. Absolutely recommended. If you come to Holyrood Palace early, don't hesitate to have breakfast here.

I loved the breakfast we ate at the cafe on both days of my trip to Edinburgh. The eggs and the pancakes were excellent. A special mention for the fabulous cappuccino and mocha. Will definitely recommend this to any anyone visiting the royal mile.

ENG: Everything was quite solid: a warm meal, a clean toilet and friendly service - just nothing WOW. EN: Quite a nice place. The food was okay, the toilet was clean and the service was nice. Nothing extraordinary, but it has its own charm. The cash register was not working during my visit, but this is not a permanent problem. I don't recommend sitting close to the door, because it doesn't close very well, and arriving customers don't pay attention to keeping it closed, which causes wind to blow on their backs.

I tried eggs for breakfast and it was very nice

Rude service(old lady with black & hightlight hair) & not enough staff to serve customer, have to wait quite while for order + throw food & drink very hard on the table with bad attitude. When we ask can we have one more small table to make a bit more space , she seem to be mad. Food price expensive but not worth it. Doesn’t taste good.

Nothing fancy, but good food at a good price

This quickly became my favorite place to eat while in Edinburgh. We ate breakfast here everyday, love the omelette, beans & toast, and stopped in for cake many times. I also got my chai latte here everyday, seriously the best chai latte I have ever tasted. Food is wonderful and the family that runs this cafe is so amazing and caring. I highly recommend you make this place your home.

We came here every day during our stay! The cafe is warm and cosy. Everyone is so kind and welcoming. The chai latte was absolutely delicious! 10/10 recommend!

Enjoyed breakfast here twice during our time in Edinburgh. Amazing food and wonderful service. The staff are so nice and make visitors feel very welcome. Excellent omelets, beans and coffee, and toast on the most incredible bread!

Victoria sponge for take out costs 4.7 per slice. I would say M&S does better WHOLE fresh cream and chilled version. Baristas are nice anyway.

If you have an allergy I wouldn't recommend eating/drinking here under any circumstances. We came for a quick drink before we headed up to the castle. We asked for a hot chocolate with oat milk for my sister as due to a medical condition she can't have dairy milk. We did not double check if the milk was oat when the drinks arrived as we assumed when we only ordered one hot chocolate it would be oat milk. About 20 minutes after we had left my sister had waves of severe intense tummy cramps which she only gets after drinking dairy milk. She spent the next hour and a half or so in pain caused by drinking the dairy milk. For my sister this instant isn't fatal but extremely painful and uncomfortable but if it was a severe allergy the outcome could have been a lot worse. If you had an allergy or any dietary restrictions I would highly recommend that you go elsewhere as this place does acknowledge your request for dairy alternatives.

Lovely little cafe in a slightly quieter location than the very centre (but still very close and accessible). Super welcoming and friendly service. My coffee and smoothie were both delicious and the prices were good. This was a lovely little haven to relax in the midst of Fringe madness!

Lo staff era gentile, ma il cibo terrificante (insalata inondata di maionese e haggis non a livello di altri mangiati in Scozia), l'ambiente tristissimo, la musichetta di sottofondo un invito al suicidio. Nessuna ricevuta fiscale (l'abbiamo chiesto e ci ha rilasciato due biglietti strani). Non ci è piaciuto per niente purtroppo

Just giving three stars for the good customer service. The cafe is located just opposite the Canongate Kirk. I had an 'expensive' fish and chips which cost around 13 pounds. Sadly, the fish was undercooked and not at all tasty. The customer service was great here and the washroom was super clean. The cafe was not crowded when I visited. Some minor improvements can be brought in terms of cooking such as a good batter etc and that can attract more customers.

Un lloc adequat per menjar el típic “Scottish breackfast”. L’atenció ha sigut molt correcta. Qualitat preu molt recomanable. El local és petit però acollidor, atenció ràpida, no hem hagut d’esperar pràcticament gens en ser atesos i servits.

It's a small café in the busy location close to the city center. We had a lunch there after we made a hike to Arthur's seat. The prices were not particularly cheap, but the food was awesome. Great food and a cold drink with a friendly staff really made my day.

Tenían una amplia carta de menú. Nosotros pedimos fish and chips y la verdad que tanto las patatas como el pescado estaba riquísimo. Es una buena ración. Mi experiencia fué muy buena, también con el personal que trabaja que fueron atentos y rápidos en servir. Lo recomiendo.

Classico posto dove è possibile mangiare ottimo fish and chips. Cibo ottimo, servizio molto veloce, ambiente molto semplice ma comunque pulito e ordinato.

Not very good food. And unfriendly staff

The food was not too great, especially in accordance to the prices. The salads tasted weird and kind of moldy. The avocado was really unripe and you couldn’t even properly chew it. The breakfast blast smoothie just tasted like blended oats, and the staff had to double-check our order at least 4 times. I just didn’t really feel like it was worth it. At all.

Decent small cafe with no frills. Relatively cheap for the area and surrounding offerings. Service is decent too. Not much to brag about but easy choice if in the area.

Because of rain i accidentally go to this restaurant but i really got amazed. The staffs are cordial and smiling, Food was good and the portions are very satisfying.. in spite of heavy rush the serves real fast. The chef was amazing and too fast.. bathroom was clean.. it’s cozy but i really enjoy there. U should visit this place if u want good food, cheap rate and quality time.. Thanks for your service!

Avoid this place. Waiters don't listen to basic requests. Asked for the Peri Peri chicken wrap with no cheese. I could tell the female waiter ignored me say this the first time, so I repeated that I did not want cheese. Then of course the wrap comes out with cheese...

Lunch cafe in a prime location of the city. Very busy & bustle cafe with burgers to traditional fish n chips on offer. Delicious desserts and hot drinks are available. Only drinks is not sold during rush lunch hours. Very friendly & good service.

Would give 1 star to the carbonara. But the staffs are nice, and I remembered the burger was good when I first came here.

Fabulous cafe! We stayed at Aparthotel on Royal Mile and this is a quick five minute walk. Friendly service and delicious food. We loved it so much! It is right near the Starbucks and accross from Cannongate Kirk.

Poor food and an absolute rip off. Expect to pay £4.50 for one slice of toast.

We had the bangers and mash. First time I tried the dish in UK, so maybe it's supposed to be like that, but I was very disappointed... It was tasteless, way too much gravy and the gravy had loads of lumps. Didn't finish my portion. The staff was friendly though and the salad they served at other tables looked good.

Chips are soggy, shrimps taste like they were frozen since 1989, sauces are probably the lowest quality imaginable. Happy I didn't get sick though!
