I have been to Cafe Thyme on many occasions and the experience and food have always been absolutely amazing. The owner and staff have also always been incredibly friendly and professional. I have also recommended Cafe Thyme to many friends and family members, all of whom have thoroughly enjoyed their time there. Keep up the good work girls xx

Sat outside in the summer sun for a sandwich and a drink. We have been here quite a few times and the food is always good. I had a well filled ham and mustard sandwich on granary bread with their own coleslaw which was very tasty. My other half had salmon and cream cheese sandwich on granary with coleslaw and that was also very good. The service here can be a bit slow but ok for us as we weren’t in a hurry. The couple on the table next to us had been seated awhile and were eventually asked if they were ready to order, in spite of not having been given a menu. Not a massive issue but worth noting.

What a lovely place to eat. Staff are so happy and friendly and the food is always delicious! Had a very enjoyable breakfast of avocado on sourdough toast with poached eggs and bacon…and my wife had toastie which was oozing with cheese and tomato…perfect. Will definitely be making regular breakfast visits!

Rude greeting from person behind the counter. Although I didn’t walk out the customer service was poor and the food and drinks slow. Would have thought it would have been quick considering they had minimal customers in and lots of empty tables. There are many better options in the town with lovely premises, inviting menus and staff. I will not be returning.

I visited this cafe on a Saturday lunch time. All the outside tables were taken so we sat inside. It was a bit confusing and looks like they have joined two separate units as there were tables and chairs with a counter, a narrow corridor and then another room with more tables and chairs and a bit in the corner where drinks were made. There were no menus on the tables and it was not clear if you had to order at the counter. After a good five minutes a waitress came to our table but only took orders for drinks, and another waitress took food orders. We had a pot of tea for one, a coffee, a diet Coke, a smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich and a BLT sandwich. At first the waitress said that they had run out of bacon but could do one with sausage to which we agreed. Then she returned to say they had lit the grill (?) and could do bacon. Both sandwiches came with a bit of side salad and coleslaw. The sandwich fillings were quite generous. The bill came to £24.70. I could not see a toilet for disabled people, and the toilet appeared to be unisex. Inside was an area with a washbasin and two toilets but one was marked out of order with a chair placed in front to prevent use. In the remaining toilet there was an area where tiles were coming off the wall and some grouting and bits off the stud partition wall were littering the floor. There was a sign saying Do Not Touch, but no sign apologising for the condition of the wall. I do not know how long the toilet was in this condition but the staff should have swept the floor at the very least. I would not visit this cafe again.

My partner and I often go to Café Thyme. Roughly once a week. We love it there. In the summer months, it's great to be able to sit outside and dine 'al fresco.' Many people are there, with many more coming and going, which is all testament to Hanna, her team, the service and the fantastic food available. Lots of the scones and cakes are homemade. Wraps and sandwiches are made to order, on the day, as and when order taken. Homemade 'specials' board all homemade. To have that added personal touch, definitely makes the food taste that much better. Hanna also makes her homemade cakes, wraps, sandwiches and any buffet food, for any outside catering. She came, with one of her staff members, to the Rugby Club, for a 100th birthday and everyone raved about the food. Hanna and her staff member went around, asking people if they wanted any drinks and when people came up to help themselves to food, plates, napkins and wipes were handed out to everyone. Even though we all left feeling full and satiated, Hanna brought 'doggy bag' boxes, to take the leftover food home. By the end, there was nothing left! Everyone loved the food!

Set down a side alley with plenty of seating both inside and out. Was very busy on a Friday afternoon. Ordered sandwiches coffee and vanilla milkshake. Service was friendly and quick. Point of reference it would be nice to be offered sugar with your hot drink, so you don't have to ask the waiting staff to come backwards and forwards. The sandwiches were dry and disappointing, served with salad and coleslaw.

First of all, just to clarify, none of the criticism has to do with the current COVID measures. They are absolutely understandable. Went there with my Girlfriend. After we sat down it took the waitress 7mins to come to our table, although it was not that busy. But then she didn‘t take our order, we were just asked to give our name(s) and a number for tracking. No problem with that but then she left. From there it took another 5mins till someone came to take our order. When we asked for a menu, the rude answer was, on the window. There was literally a C3 Sheet on the window that was barely readable. After we managed to find something on the tiny menu, we had to wait for the waitress to come back to our table (another 5mins). We went for a Cappuccino and an iced latte. The Cappuccino didn‘t have enough froth on it and the iced latte was bland. No one did ask if we wanted sugar and there was also no sugar on the table. Overall, absolute terrible experience but unfortunately as expected from a British cafe.

We have been here on several occasions. Whilst busy a lot of the time, we have always managed to get a table in the cafe, tucked down a small side street (30 metres long being small) when cafes on the main streets are full. It has a 5 star hygiene rating, and the cafe style food is always superb. Soups, sandwiches, toasties, panini, jacket potatoes with various toppings and huge cake portions, all freshly made (no I don’t work here or have any contact other than being a customer). They also have a specials board. Very generous fillings in sandwiches. outside seating with blankets for the hardy and smokers. Highly recommend. One more thing..... CASH ONLY! Had lunch here one Friday lunchtime, the cafe was quite busy, I got a table no problem but when I looked around I felt like leaving. I had already ordered my food at this stage so I said I would not judge on appearances. The walls are quite mouldy and seem damp and the windows are covered in condensation, which isn't overly appealing. The menu seemed promising and the soup was described as homemade, however I was disappointed to see that my soup was being heat up in a bowl in the microwave. The soup was not once stirred and the consistency reflected the same, it was not overly appealing because of this and it was not overly tasty. Overall it was an OK experience, staff were friendly, but it could be so much better with a little more attention to detail. Also worth noting that this cafe is cash only.

Sausages were the lowest quality with very tough skins, bread the cheapest possible supermarket quality. Also ordered stilton and brockerley soup - very stong taste practically enedible. Visited yesterday with an older friend. First impressions were great - we were welcomed and shown to a better outside seat than the one we'd first picked. We were offered table service and were able to have green tea and also ordinary English Breakfast style tea. Service was quick, efficient and friendly. Whilst we didn't eat on this occasion, I looked at the menu board and there were some interesting and tempting looking savoury dishes for lunch. As I said at the time, I think to the owner, I'll be back, possibly with my older friend too. The Trip Adviser review cards on the counter where you pay is a good move, especially as we had such a nice time. NB Any issues were clearly pointed out by the owner or a sign - e.g. the fact they are awaiting a new chiller cabinet and also being told that the awning needed repair and so best not to sit under it if it's been raining. To be told is very good. Thank you.

IIn a world where high streets are filled with samey coffee shop franchises and multi-national corperations, Café Thyme is a great little independent alternative. I love a Costa coffee, but find the pre-packed panini served in places like that particularly uninspiring. I always prefer independent cafés when going for lunch, and Café Thyme is by far my favourite in Bishop's Stortford. The food is excellent and the staff are lovely, and there's always an excellent choice of cakes on offer as well as some fantastic healthy options, perfect for a post-workout lunch.Ideally located in the centre of town near the main car park, it's a great place to sit and watch the world go by.Price-wise it's what you'd expect to pay in most places, but the quality is far greater.Have been coming here for years, and will continue to do so for years to come (as long as people continue to support places like this and don't let Starbucks wipe them out).

This place is OK for a cup of coffee, The food is two bells. It's edible but much of it seems to have been microwaved. Seating is cramped and service fairly indifferent

With seating both inside and outside you can choose weather to embrace the chilly weather or enjoy a warm (dare I say superb) coffee inside. All of the food is fresh inside with lovely aromas of salad and the typical 'Brittish' smell of fresh scones.Overall a very cosy, well run cafe with fast service and finally a SUPERB Flat White.

I have visited this cafe for breakfast and enjoyed their bacon and avocado gluten-free sandwich, which is served with salad and coleslaw. One cake is always gluten-free and so far I have sampled the blueberry and lemon cake, filled with fresh cream; it was delicious. The staff are always pleasant and knowledgeable about the food. There are tables and chairs outside for when the weather is good.

The staff here are never rude and always smiling. Have a problem, speak to the staff and don't hide. I have been coming here for 2 years now and never had a problem. The food is always fresh and plenty of it. The new superfood salads are really interesting and the bulging wraps which I had on Wednesday stuffed with spicy chicken, cream cheese and jalapenos was excellent. Great outside eating area especially on a sunny day, where it fills up very quickly. The homemade cakes, I had dime bar cake was yummy and the lady who owns its Mum makes the best Bread Pudding ever. Keep doing what your doing, it works. See you in 3 weeks

Stopped with my granddaughter in her buggy for lunch and had a really nice super food salad which I enjoyed. My granddaughter (not yet 2) had humous dippers and was very pleased to have a very own fork with which she also ate her sandwiches that her mother had made for her as well as the humous!A nice pot of tea and the ability to get the buggy into the loo and not leave her outside was a bonus.Next time I'm in Bishops Stortford I shall return.

I returned to Cafe Thyme a few days ago and had a delicious Spice Chicken and Avocado Wrap from the Specials of the Day menu.... and as if it couldn't get better Home Made Bread Pudding!!! They even had a coach party of about 17 turn up without a booking and they just catered for them without an issue. As always the staff where as friendly as anything. Great environment, thanks again!!!!

Three of us having business breakfast. Quiet weekday morning. Sat outside. As soon as our food was finished the waitress saw fit to tell us abruptly that others might want our seats if we were done. We were still halfway through our drinks. Not coming again

The home cooked cakes are to die for !!It is lovely to sit outside and have your lunch especially when the sun is shining. I always stop here for a coffee and sit outside to people watch. Every haircut day my friend and I stop for brunch - today granary toast with avo and poached eggs - just sublime.

We went here for lunch whilst passing by and were surprised by how busy it was. The waitresses were all very good at their job and all smiling. However, the same can not be said for the kitchen staff who messed up all our orders completely! Two of our first choices were unavailable due to the fact they had no more bread left and even then, they messed it up further! An apology was given but a sour taste was left after the meal as we all knew it wasn't what we wanted..Do not sit inside as you can hardly hear yourself speak due to the sound of washing plates and shouting waitresses gossiping.

I buy my lunchtime sandwiches at Cafe Thyme occasionally. The bread is fresh, the fillings varied and generous, and the sandwich comes with some nice salad accompaniment. The lady behind the counter is always cheery and friendly with a lovely smile, and all the staff are helpful. You can buy cheaper sandwiches elsewhere, but this place bears out the old saying 'You get what you pay for'. Thoroughly recommended.

I decided to treat myself to my favourite sandwich for lunch. I picked cafe thyme as I have eaten there in the past. I was served almost immediately and ordered a ham and coleslaw sandwich on granary bread. I was not disappointed. The ham was lovely thick off the bone ham with homemade coleslaw. The bread was lovely. So many times I have ordered the same sandwich from other cafes and have been presented with really thin cheap ham and nasty economy coleslaw. I had it as a takeaway and it was presented well, accompanied by a small amount of salad. I had a can of drink with it and it came to £5:50 which I thought was quite a lot, however it was delicious and a treat so I didn't mind too much. I would definitely recommend it.

An unmissable spot for real ale drinkers in the area who want the more traditional pub experience of good company, good surroundings & good beer. Fullers ESB & London Pride are 2 of the 3 regulars & are always spot on. Dark Star's Hop Head makes up the 3rd & there's also a couple of guest pumps in circulation. The landlord & customers are always friendly and the pub itself is beautiful & full of character (mind your head) with a split bar & a large upstairs area.

Not sure where to begin, suffice to say we had a very SURREAL experience at this place. I will start by saying that my friend and I regularly work as Mystery Shoppers in restaurants (we weren't doing so today) but we do know exactly what to expect from both the food and the hospitality aspects. My friend ordered a chicken salad, and I ordered 10 of their wonder wings. Please bear in mind that we were ALONE in this pub for the duration of our meal. After 35 minutes, I am approached to be told that they only have six wings prepped, but that they could make up the rest with chicken chunks...(I agreed to this) Why does it take 35 minutes to work out you don't have the number of wings requested in the order, especially when it is their ONLY order? When my friend's salad arrives, it was lacking a fair few of the ingredients described in the menu. (Crunchy garlic onions replaced by raw onions that my friend could not have, no parmesan cheese, no dressing, etc. We had to order mayo on the side to make it palatable) But the worse was still to come!! After explaining our disappointment about the various issues and asking whether their would be some form of gesture of goodwill and being told 'no' as we 'really' hadn't any issues...we entered into the most surreal situation... Without going into huge detail because it would take far too long, the manager/landlord, after agreeing that they should have told us about the lack of wings available right at the start, proceeded to DENY saying so just 5 minutes later! IT WAS UNREAL. On top of that, he would not let me talk, saying he would keep talking over me for as long as it was necessary and doing so in the rudest manner imaginable. Even having the nerve of calling me arrogant! Needless to say, this gentleman is definitely in the wrong trade. At this point, and after trying to get some sense out of him and the evolving situation, I said that my next port of call would be social media. In a spooky set of circumstances, their card-machine stopped working and wouldn't take our payment... Suddenly, we were told to leave without paying for the food (right gesture, too late) and never to come back. The irony of that!! I would strongly recommend that you give your business to any of the many other food/drink venues in Bishops Stortford, rather than to this establishment. They certainly do not know what hospitality is or what it takes to run a successful pub.

Thought we’d give this place a go after seeing the pics on their website, we were not disappointed. Couldn’t believe how busy it was for 6pm on a Wednesday night, word must've already got around. Staff were great too, the host was clearly passionate about the food when describing the cooking process and was particularly proud that they don’t put salad in their burgers, which made us chuckle. Enjoyed it so much we stayed on for dessert, the Belgian waffle was definitely the highlight. Already planning another visit soon.
