Cafe Tabou in Perth & Kinross

I don’t know how in the 5 years we have lived in this area we have not eaten here before. The food was excellent, perfect on all levels, the service friendly and very efficient. We will definitely be back and I would not hesitate to recommend any one to try this little haven of French cuisine in Perth. Thank you team Cafe Tabou 👌

Food was so good. Bread and olives were lush. Soup and 3 different mains were just delicious. Not always easy to get a table but worth the effort. My favourite restaurant in Perth.

I went to this restaurant 5 months after coming to Perth. Little did I know that even the simplest of the dishes would be awesome here. The staff and food both are awesome. Don't give it a miss. Being a vegetarian, options were limited but didn't disappoint. Aubergine lasagne and falafel (vegetarian) are lip-smackingly good.

Really enjoyed a last min lunch today. We took our time and enjoyed a delicious 3 course lunch. I'm not sure if you could have a "quick" lunch, but I'm sure they could help you out if you let them know you were in a rush. Every time i've been in, the food is top notch. Def worth a visit for something a little different

We arrived to Perth late today after the long drive from Skye. Found this place and it was perfect. Great food. Reasonably priced. They’d just changed up their menu. I had the coq au vin and the trou normande for dessert. All really good.

We visited the restaurant today with two young kids for a late lunch. This is our second visit and I can safely say you can enjoy consistently delicious, good quality food. The kids food was also very good. My husband opted for a T bone steak and it was good as the first time round. The desserts were lovely too and the restaurant made a couple of milkshakes for my two boys despite them not being in the menu. Nice polite service, very helpful. The portions are generous and you will not feel hungry leaving the Place. Atmosphere also is cosy and welcoming. Nice to be able to visit the place with kids too. We will most definitely be back again. Thank you!

Over the years we have been coming to Tabou we have seen changes but somethings remain consistent and that is service, food and value remain as high as ever.

Had lunch on a wet day. Absolutely lovely. Would highly recommend, on all counts!

My favourite place in Perth to eat, the food is outstanding and the service to match. It doesn't matter what you pick to eat from the menu it's all so delicious you can't go wrong. If you are on holiday you must eat here.

What a lovely little French bistro. The food and the atmosphere were very authentic. Salad du Chef was beautiful. Well balanced in flavour and texture. Roasted plums and duck match perfectly.

About as close as you'll get to a perfect dining experience. I went two days in a row and I look forward to my next visit to Perth so I can eat at café Tabou again. Can't recommend highly enough.

Service was good. Ordered the cote de boeuf, blue it arrived an a sizzling hot plate and therefore continued to cook for the next 20 - 30 minutes. Some restaurants just now what to do with blue steaks! Luckily it wasn’t too busy as it always feels there are too many tables too close together. Perhaps this is why I had to keep moving to allow other customer to read the specials board.

Best restaurant in Perth. Food is always excellent as is the service. Always a nice atmosphere as well

Inconspicuous but amazing place with absolutely astonishing food

Excellent Scottish ribeye steak cooked as requested with garlic/butter/parsley sauce served with gratin dauphinois and washed with a very good French Merlot. A dessert equally good : white chocolate cheesecake with fresh berries. Attention given by the staff all the time. Good quality and value

We went for our anniversary lunch here, and we are so glad we did. The people that work there are friendly and helpful. We had scallops which were nice, just the right amount of cooked too! And then the rare coté de beouf which is a sharing steak, it was delicious although a tad chewy. It looked amazing when it arrived and the sides were very very good. The best part of the meal was actually the vegetable side, they were the most delicious and beautifully cooked veggies we have ever had at a restaurant! overall the experience was good and we highly recommend a visit. Inside it feels like Paris and outside the church adds atmosphere. We are going to go for a breakfast soon. Didn't think it was too expensive either. You should go, it's well worth a visit😁

The waiters very friendly and attentive. I ordered the menu, with the chef's salad, which although it had chorizo, the flavors were very balanced and I really liked it. For the main course I had the venison, which is brought in a small casserole and the broth was spectacular, delicious. For dessert, a cheese board was good. All accompanied by a beer, £38 in total. A little expensive, but everything was very good.

Visited here on the recommendation of a colleague. This is a traditional restaurant located in the centre of Perth. We had the three course set menu, finding the food to be excellent, washed down with a decent bottle of Pinot Noir. Looking forward to visiting again.

This place has such a wonderful atmosphere. Very French in style and the food is amazing.

Booked online which was very easy to do. When we arrived it was such a nice evening and we decided to sit outside in the shade. Tables are big enough for 4 people comfortably. When sitting outside you may be right on the street but it’s not too bad. Lots of different menu options. Men chose to change the chateau beef I ordered lamb and friend ordered fish. We also saw frogs legs and thought why not The food was amazing they cut the meat at the table. The frogs legs were really nice, Didn’t think they needed the bread crum but that’s just my preference. I always thought tabou was too posh for me but I’ve been well and truly corrected. Will be back

Visited with friends, have been before and again can only praise this establishment, food excellent, service excellent, lovely place to eat and relax, will be back.

The 14oz T-bone steak was very tasty despite its reasonable price. I gave it a perfect score because the atmosphere of the store was nice.

Incredible food, had the set menu, three fantastic courses of perfectly cooked food. Every element of every dish was spot on. Best meal we've had in a long time. Excellent seafood and a Sunday roast beef dinner elevated to beyond amazing. The service was first class too.

Not many others in the restaurant so it was quiet and cold but great food and the new member of staff did at good job at cocktails., definitely call in again.

Had lunch here today, set menu £24.50,2 course. Started with meant to be haddock with cauliflower in cheese sauce, no haddock or anything resembling fish in dish. Mentioned to waitress, said she would pass it on to chef. He told her it's mixed in, well unless my taste buds are knackered it was well disguised. Only reason we went in here was we couldn't find a Chinese restaurant for lunch, will certainly be looking for one next time in Perth, this was certainly not worth the money.

We have been going to cafe Tabou for many years and always find it tasty. I chose rack of lamb but got two small cutlets, some baby veg and 3 baby potatoes, my partner chose the monk fish tail and got 4 very small pieces. Baring in mind these dishes were £27 each I felt I was being ripped off. Full bill came to £118 and went home for a snack.

Decided to give this place a try after hearing good reviews. First of all the table we got was like it had been put together just then and there right in the corner next to toilet , I kept bashing my head off the wall. The scallop starter is a joke! 10.90 for two tiny scallops and the rest is raw leek and salad. Tempura broccoli was lovely. The mains I ordered was beef medallions , I asked for potato gratin and got fries but it took so long to come I couldn't be bothered waiting any longer for the issue to be fixed. Ordered drinks and they took 20mins each time to come. Had to ask twice for them , clearly forgot about us until I asked for a second time. Won't be back and for £109 it's definitely not worth it , been to much better places for a better price.

Consistently excellent traditional French food, with superb service every time. From start to finish, Cafe Tabou is a fantastic place for lunch or dinner in Perth, whatever your tastes. Steaks are first class, and the fish is amazing. Wonderful wine list. Also serves the best bread in Perth 🤩

Top quality Perth Restaurant. Always full to the brim, and always very professional service. Chateaubriand is a must! (£60 for two people, with a stunning bottle of red, mid week special). Better pre-book though or you wont get a table. I also highly recommend the seafood soup starter, it's incredibly good.

22 of us booked for late lunch on New Year's Eve. We had a flawless afternoon, brilliantly looked after by the team. The food was great and the service prompt and with a smile. Keep up the great work folks.

Food was excellent but found the service, unfortunately did not match. Restaurant was very busy perhaps too many covers for staff to be as attentive, as you would expect when paying these prices.

Disappointing. 2 of our table Ordered scallops for starters . 1 lonely scallop arrived with a bit salad. Menu said scallops not a scallop . Another ordered snails in garlic butter this arrived without much garlic butter and no croutons and looked like it had been left under the grill for too long . The main courses were fine but the dauphinoise potatoes also were a bit dry . We have been there a few times, but on this occasion, overall it was very disappointing for the money we spent .

Came here first because it was close to where we were staying. Came again because the food and atmosphere were just great. I'd learned as a child that there has always been a historic link between Scotland and France, but hadn't seen any evidence of it in the modern world. It's here. Seafood bisque - rich, complex flavours, wonderful colour, great rouille to go with it. I had hake with a fennel cream that looked fine, but not exceptional, but the flavour ! Fantastic. It's one of those places where the hum of conversation tells you that people are enjoying themselves. On weeknights there is a Prix Fixe menu - £23 or so for two courses, £30 for three, and the Chateaubriand steak is on offer (£50 ish with wine.) Great value for great food. Interestingly I think that in Perth the presence of possibly three good French style restaurants is pushing up standards, rather than a race to the bottom on price. Lucky Perth!

Only giving 2 stars because of the lack of quantity of meat on the main I ordered. Also me and my wife ordered the same desert and mine was also not the same quantity as hers. Must have seen me coming! Very tasty food none the less but couldn't help feel a bit ripped off. When I mentioned my issue with the poor quantity of meat on my main to the waitress at the end all I got was a half hearted "I'll pass the message on".

We sat outside. Bad move. No gas for heaters, no room inside, no shelter. Sit inside unless it's a scorchio day and your dining isn't taking long. No help to get gas working.

Well it was different but ok,when I mean different ,well when we were in Paris that seemed to be better but don't ask me why but it was,probably because I was abroad in a foreign country not sure, any our lunch today was nice but in a different way.

Fabulous French cafe restaurant. Plenty Seating outside if it's a warm evening. Recently ordered from the set menu. Less options on the set menu and possibly smaller portions than the alacarte menu. However still plenty and delicious, all the food was excellent. We Thoughrouly enjoyed every course, service were friendly and efficient. Two diners, three courses each, a bottle of wine, and liquer coffee each for a sniff under £100 +tip. At the quality of the meal id say is a bargain. Cant recommended enough.

Just had an amazing lunch of grilled octopus followed by cote de boeuf which was excellent and enough left over for a doggy bag. The French martinis were also very good and great service. Highly recommend!

Right where do I start, maybe It's what you expect from fine dining? I have to give a fair review, well from fine dining I've had better, maybe because it's described wrongfully, it's not fine dining it's a nice meal what I would say it's overpriced, I had the octopus starter it was with peas and it was just that bland bland bland, however the château briand was lovely , table wasn't ready that was fine I don't mind.. we was given a drink on them to apologise so point for customer service, that was soon taken away we was then put buy the door with a pushchair in the back, fine dining it's not good friendly family expensive meal, yeah, wine was lovely service was okay but should be at £150 wouldn't go again unless I had the fixed menu sorry but that's just me, I think you should try it and you be the judge

As visitors to Perth, my wife and I were recommended Cafe Tabou by our hotel owner, and we were not disappointed! We ordered off the set menu, and both the main courses (Pork Belly and Sea Trout) were absolutely delicious. Similarly, our desserts (Crepe Simplicite and Chocolate Bread & Butter Pudding) were mouthwateringly good! The atmosphere was excellent, the staff were brilliant, and our liqueur coffees rounded off an excellent evening!

Second time we've eaten here in 3 days, better than the first time. As an ex-chef I'm super critical, I have no complaints whatsoever, food and service is first class. Well done to all the staff.
