A direct message has already been sent to this place about my experience and no response has been received as yet (nearly 2 weeks later). First of all this place used to be great…great coffee, friendly staff, great food. With this in mind, my friend and I thought Cafe Rio would be a cosy place for our heart to heart chat, Now on entry it smells and feels grubby. My initial Americano was bitter and filmy on top, just awful so I sent it back, this was replaced with a much smoother cup. My friend and I ordered the breakfast Cinnamon toast with bacon and maple syrup for £6.95. It arrived: and how disappointing -two pieces of bread, two tiny pieces of streaky bacon and a bowl of syrup. The bacon was over cooked and black in places and the bread was completely soggy and soaked in grease and syrup. We both felt sick after attempting to eat half of it, so we left it and carried on with our chat. On leaving we both decided we would privately message the place about the standard of food and see what the response would be, rather than just leaving a bad review on here. As yet neither of us has even received an acknowledgement of our complaint let alone a personal response. It’s a shame as I felt this was a place you could rely on.

Start with positive, food was of a high standard and decent portions. Negative, service was shocking. Waiting for an hour which was disappointing as plenty of staff and the cafe not busy. This isn't really acceptable when children in our party.

Decided to head to cafe Rio today for a quick bit of lunch, nothing too complicated to put together, a cappuccino and a panini with tortillas. The cappuccino turned up promptly but after half an hour and still no food I decided that I'd waited long enough and got up to request my money back and to leave, at which point the food conveniently turned up. Reason for the delay......"We're very busy today"! Well sorry apology not accepted, the place was half empty (I counted the tables). So I elected to turn my 'sit in' to a takeaway and I won't be back

Lovely little spot for lunch. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere and great food. Like how you choose from a long list of ingredients for a baguette/panini to make it just the way you want it

Stumbled across Cafe Rio whilst looking for somewhere for lunch - and so glad we did! Lovely atmosphere, friendly and efficient staff, and the food was delicious. Generous portions and very reasonably priced. Lots of variety on the menu and nice selection of olives cheeses cakes etc at the counter. Plenty of vegetarian options on offer. I had quiche of the day (squash courgette and pepper) - it came with a great selection of salads and bread. Husband had a vegan burger and chips - that was delicious too. All homemade. Finished off with coffee and cake. Can’t recommend enough. We will definitely be back!

To be honest we couldnt fault the meal we ordered. It was hot, tasty, and the flavours took us back to the Greek islands. Generous portions for a meze and reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and helpfull. Will I go back. I certainly will.

A really great independently run cafe. We will definitely visit again soon. Huge selection, friendly, organised staff, nice atmosphere and really welcoming. I had quiche which came with various side salads and bread. My husband had Chicken curry from the specials board. Empty plates from both of us - food was really good. Not rushed, comfortable seating, service speedy, toilets clean.

Visited for family lunch, we visited Cafe Rio for the first time a couple of years ago when staying in the area and visited Haverford West, we enjoyed it then so paid another visit in September 2029 for Lunch. Not disappointed, good selection of food and drinks, COVID measures in place so capacity did seem less than last visit but didn't spoil our visit. Nice atmosphere, staff where friendly, will be back next time we are in the area.

On holiday and visited here today for lunch with my husband and black lab. Really nice place with a great menu. My husband had a mixed platter of meats and cheeses, and I had a falafel salad - the best falafel I’ve tasted in ages and an interesting and varied salad, as opposed to just having a few random leaves. Cakes looked fab but too full after what we’d ordered! Would definitely recommend 😊

We popped in at 11.15 this morning and was taken to a table, we filled out a covid form and went to view the menu as instructed which in my mind was far too close to a family sitting at the table in front of it. We both ordered breakfasts and were told there were no sausages but could have extra bacon or spanish sausage. We opted for one of each. Out drinks arrived, again in my mind the waitress leaned far too far over the table and had no PPE on at all, she then cleaned another table by wiping it over with a damp cloth. She didnt have any spray with her and didnt do chairs. Breakfast arrived, both had Soanish sausage, I really cant eat it. The waitress apologized and took it away. When she returned I noticed the overcooked scrambled egg was impregnated with spanish sausage juice and the plate was covered in it too. She apologised again and took it away. I opted for a toasted tea cake which wasnt really what I wanted. She said there was a new chef! The meal itself was poor, the bacon was streaky and the handle on my teacup was cracked right through. Although the waitress was very pleasant sadly we wont be returning.

We ordered takeaway Spanish tapas to help our favourite cafe during the pandemic. Prices had gone up since the last time we had tapas at Cafe Rio and we thought this might be reflected in the portion sizes, but sadly not. Dishes were around £7.25 each so we ordered 4 to share between 2 adults. Whilst the food was stunning, it just wasn't enough and we wished we'd ordered 6 dishes. I'd be happy to pay £20 a head for eat-in tapas but not for takeaway. Still, businesses have been terribly affected by Covid so I'm hoping enough people have supported Cafe Rio to keep it open for the long term. We will definitely return once your doors are open but might not have takeaway again on account of the price.

I haven’t visited for the last couple of years, but Cafe Rio was as good as I remember. We were lucky to be able to sit by the fire on a cold day. I think the heat probably didn’t reach the rest of the restaurant as we were going to sit at another table, which was rather cold. Our food arrived quickly and was hot and well presented.

I want to be as positive as I can as I must stress I’m only reviewing the breakfast since we’ve only been here once. The rest of the menus that we saw looked very appetising with plenty of choice. We came for breakfast and chose the full Welsh breakfast. The venue itself is very cosy and attractive. We were asked when ordering whether we’d like white or brown bread and chose the latter. Breakfast does not include tea or coffee. When the food arrived we had been given not brown bread but toasted white baguette type bread, but we didn’t like to complain. We weren’t asked if we’d like sauces so I had to go up and get these later from the counter. The server did say she’d bring us an extra fried egg as the ones we had on our plate were very small. This was her suggestion, not ours. I then realised that we hadn’t been given a choice of egg. Normally we don’t eat fried egg. The bacon and sausage was delicious but with only four small pieces of mushroom each, this aspect was disappointing. I’m sure this cafe does better usually, as we’ve heard good things about it.

The staff were helpful and friendly, and despite being a busy lunchtime the food was brought out quickly. I would prefer a menu to read at the table rather than stand by the counter overlooking a table of customers eating though. Today, I had a pannini filled with my choice of up to three fillings from an extensive selection. I also had a side of Rio Chips which although pricey at £3.00 for a small dish, have to be the best chips I have had in a very long time. Well done for providing a pot of hot water with the tea and not having to be asked to do so! It wouldn't come amiss if there was some heating in the loo though, very cold and woke me up after the relaxing warmth of the cafe.

Five of us went here yesterday evening for dinner, first time I have ever visited and was a little unsure when I was told we were going for Moroccan tapas, as didn't quite know what to expect.First the place, independent with a slightly quirky sense of character, big tables with plenty of room.Staff were lovely really friendly and helpful, explaining the food to us and advising us on how many dishes they would suggest for our party. The food itself was outstanding, freshly cooked and extremely tasty, with plenty of variety and taste for both meat eaters and veggies. I think there were about 7 different tapas selections on the menu and we went for one of each following staff's recommendation, we were a little concerned it wouldn't be enough food but we were wrong, really was lots of food, in fact so much we had no hope of eating it all and they kindly offered to box it up for us to take home. Great wines there as well, very tasty It was a little quiet there which was a real shame, I intend to go back and support Cafe Rio, as we don't have enough gems like this in Haverfordwest.

Went for family lunch after seeing good reviews. Told when ordering that food will take 20 to 30 mins which was fine with us. After 45 mins we were still waiting and were told the delay was because a new chef had just started. The place wasn't particularly busy. Staff then asked us 3 times to confirm what we had actually ordered. Food eventually arrived for 4 guests, then another 15 min wait for the 5th person to be served. Food was quite nice but nothing special. We weren't alone and a lot of other customers were delayed. All quite disorganised, shame.

We have been meaning to try this place for a while now, and finally popped in today after a rather traumatic dental appt. We were greeted my happy smiling staff who answered all our questions. We ordered the Cappuccino which was nicely decorated with chocolate powder on top! The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, nothing is too much trouble. Upon leaving we decided to get a baguette to take away to eat at home. Just finished it, and it was lovely, the baguette was light and crispy and the filling just right....one of my fillings was Stilton, and this can be over powering and its easy to put too much in, but this was just right! We will def try this place again for a proper sit down lunch. Plenty of choice whatever your taste.

cafe Rio is situated near to the car park on the Old Quay. Although not very imposing from the outside it is definitely worth a visit. It serves a range of dishes from all over the world but mainly Mediterranean (Spanish) and Turkish. The food is freshly cooked with no chips in sight. The staff were friendly and helpful. My wife and I both had omelettes which were excellent. The cafe also sells a range of food related items from around the world. We bought mugs hand painted in Thailand, home made garlic jam (which was excellent) and Spanish orange honey. There is free wifi. The only downside was that the toilets were not very impressive and hand drying was on a single hand towel which is not very hygienic

We came for lunch and had to discover quite a few no no's in this cafe. Despite the staff beeing very friendly, we were put off of certain things. Both people behind the counter had a dirty appearance, wearing dirty clothes. The floor was covered in dirt, not cleaned for a while, where food is just wiped from the tables and customers walk over it. The cusion on one of the seats is ripped and needs replacing. The toilet is cold, no hand soap is available, no towel to dry hands is available. But what put us really off, was that little hair stuck in the humus of my hubbies salad. After reading the review on TA and seeing the photos of the food I popped in for lunch while I was in Haverfordwest. I had high hopes of a nice meal, and after looking at the various items in the deli counter and ordered a Panini with three different ingredients What arrived what such a disappointment. The ‘Panini’ was actually replaced by a long life ‘part baked’ baguette which was utterly tasteless and anaemic apart from the grill stripes. Why do restaurants think that toasting a baguette suddenly turns it into a panini? The filling was so mean, consisting of a few thin slices slices of cheese and literally four tiny pieces each of the pepper and onion I ordered. The ‘crisps’ accompaniment weren’t the hoped for nice potato crisps from the deli, they were actually tortilla corn chips. It’s not on to allow people to order something and then serve something else without comment or apology.

Understand it was a busy time of day and the place was full so staff were busy but this is a excellent place to eat so maybe it would be worth having extra staff during busy periods to clear the tables.

I feel a bit torn with this review, but in light of my most recent experience on which i feel i need to base this review, i will not be returning to this cafe . Firstly the decor is pleasant and on my first visit, so were the staff, There was a good choice of food on the menu. My husband had a full cooked breakfast and i had the veggie one. We remarked on the fact that they used fresh, local produce. We were delighted to think that we had found a local place serving good breakfast that suited both me and my husband. We returned the following week with a friend and were hugely disappointed. Our friend ordered a meal based on poached egg. When it arrived there were 2 hard, rubbery balls of egg yolk sat on the toast with a smattering of egg white scattered smong the avacado. It was inedible and i cant believe that a reputable establishment would allow food so poorly cooked to leave their kitchen and be served to paying customers. My friend politely went to the counter and asked if he could have some softer poached eggs. The waitress looked hostile and didnt apologise, she just returned the food to the kitchen and said she would ask the chef. 10 or so minutes later the chef came out with the new plate of food, he literally slammed it down in front of my friend, glared at us and stormed off. I will not be returning to be served substandard food by rude staff. Its a shame because based on our first experience i would have highly recommended a visit

a lovely cafe in a rather unquantifiable way: good snacks; excellent coffee; friendly service; and a few deli things which i couldn't imagine any1 going in there to buy, but my spendthrift female companion did on our visit!

We ordered a selection of food from the Caribbean Tapas evening that Cafe Rio put on tonight. We shared 9 portions between the four of us which was lots for us to eat and absolutely delicious. The food tasted really fresh and authentic as well being good value to feed the whole family, and it was great to be able to try a different cuisine in Pembrokeshire. We will definitely be back soon.

I went to Cafe Rio with my girlfriend one morning for breakfast. We both had the smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel with a poached egg. One of the nicest I’ve ever eaten. Lovely atmosphere and cosy surroundings.

Enjoyed a full breakfast today with the best toast ever. The whole plate was full and not a drop of grease. Tea was hot and strong and service very friendly. Can't wait to return.

We all really enjoyed eating here. The place was clean, tidy and the staff were very friendly. Would go back in a heart beat.Truth be told, I was not that fussed on going in but I am so glad that I was given no choice. Really enjoyed it. The place has a really good, warm welcoming feeling about it.

A relaxing place to have a coffee after a busy shop. I was pleased with the seating also, a choice of table, sofa or arm chairs. Very comfy arm chair I sat in. Music was also relaxing to listen to. Food was great + presented well. I like it when I'm surprised by food. Definitely recommended after being on your feet all day !

Visiting a cafe for the chronically ill/disabled, is something that has to be planned ahead. They have to take many things into consideration, many of which healthy people may take for granted. Cafe Rio ticks all of these boxes. Take a moment to appreciate what a chronically ill person has to consider before entering a cafe/restaurant.♿️ Getting there. Is it easy to park outside? Disabled bays?♿️ Access in and around the cafe, space to manoeuvre a wheelchair/scooter/sticks/crutches♿️ Noise levels. Background music needs to be low♿️ Lighting. Needs to be low lighting, no strip or bright spot lights.♿️ Menu must suit various dietary needs.♿️ Friendly staff. This helps with anxiety issues and communication problems.♿️ Comfy seating that has back support and easy to get in and out of.Well done Cafe Rio, top marks!

We were looked after by a very friendly and efficient member of staff called Georgi if my memory serves me.We decided on tapas and we were advised as to how many plates would be sufficient and the styles of the food I must say Georgi was spot on with her choices. We had desert and coffee and the whole experience was a pleasure.

This is a lovely place to stay we had one night here and we were very well looked after the kitchen staff came in early for us as we had a tight schedule to keep which was appreciated. The food both in the evening and breakfast was excellent would definitely stay again.

Well it says it’s open when we got there.. it’s not ! All locked up, lights off, no sign of life. Not sure what’s going on in Fishguard but most of the places that say are open are closed ! Found ONE cafe open at 10am, Cresswells.. and that took some searching
