Cafe Rasa Malaysia in Newham

Food looked astechically pleasing but flavours and portions side was very disappointing - Assam laksa lacked ingredients and only had a few slices of cucumber and onions and 5 segments of canned pineapple. Noodles also barely an adult portion. Nasi lemak had tablespoon portions of sambal, teaspoon portion of peanuts and half a teaspoon of anchovies. Coming for a Malaysian background, this was the worst Malaysian restaurant I have had in London. We were also cheekily asked to pay the bill straight after staff took our order at the table and whilst waiting for the food to arrive! Would have taken off the service charge for a poor experience.

Really disappointing meal. The laksa was weirdly tomato-y and sour, definitely not authentic. Measley amount of dry, thin slices of chicken, a fried tofu that has been cut into tiny pieces, not to mention soggy noodles, and even kale… in a laksa? First time seeing that, and not in a good way. The nasi goreng was soggy and loaded with cloves, which totally overpowered the dish and does not belong together. Barely any beef in it. The daal that came with the murtabak also tasted way too strongly of clove which also didn’t work at all. Wouldn’t recommend, very disappointing.

The waitress insisting seating us at the corner saying the place was about to close, then came people and were seated at the place we asked if we could seat at that table. Apparently waitress knew them (possibly friends?). Almost couldnt believe it. Seemingly small thing but enough reason not to go back. Food was really average. Too far from station.

Noor's twist on Malaysian food cannot be beat! I was well looked after by Soleha and Yasmin today, and the food cooked by Dee, wow! Bring all your friends!

I don’t usually make reviews of places but I’ve been here about 4-5 times now and have loved it every time. There’s something about the food that makes it feel and taste incredibly comforting. The staff are super friendly and the atmosphere here is so much more chill than the hustle and bustle of the foodcourts on the ground floor and above of westfield. Really makes the shopping centre more bearable. Would recommend their Beef Rendang Nasi Lemak, Roti Canai and a hot Teh Tarik, all pictured above.

Had lunch at Raza today, The food and the service was amazing. We were treated with a warm welcome and the food was lovely and fresh. Would definitely come here again thank you to Soleha, Dee the Chef Yasmin and Shazan . Just brilliant

Such a hidden gem in Westfield! Yasmin and the rest of the staff were really friendly. The food was flavourful and the portions were generous. Thank you to chef Dee. It is located in a quieter part of Westfield so you can comfortably have a meal without being in the chaos of the food court. I would definitely come back and recommend this restaurant to others.

The staff here are so nice and friendly! When we weren’t sure what to try, a young staff was really patient and gave us great suggestions. The beef nasi lemak was absolutely delicious — the beef was tender, flavorful, and full of rich taste. The mixed satay is also a must-try! The grilled meat paired perfectly with the rich peanut sauce. Highly recommend this place~

My wife and I made a 1.5-hour trip back here after loving their Mee Kari Ipoh and Nasi Goreng Malaysia — and it was so worth it! This time we had lamb curry with rice, Nasi Lemak, chicken and lamb satay, cassava cake, plus Teh Tarik and Kopi Tarik with chia seeds. Everything tasted super authentic and full of flavor, especially the satay with that crazy good peanut sauce. Special thanks to Johan and Iskandar for their warm, friendly service, and to Chef Shazwan and Najwa for cooking such amazing food. You can really tell they use real Malaysian spices and put a lot of heart into everything. Definitely a must-visit!

Amazing food! Tastes so wonderful and everything is full of flavour! The Beef Rendang does everything right, rich in flavour and the right portion size. The Bee Hoon Goreng with prawns was spiced enough to bring the whole dish together with a balanced flavour and finally the Roti Canai is huge, paired with the rendang uffff! We got the satay skewers too! Good price for 3 of us including drinks and nice portion slices! Does everything great for a restaurant in the shopping centre surrounded by many popular chains. Defo recommend!

Excellent service, I’ve been here many times but today the service and quality of the food was so amazing! Fantastic service by Soleha and also Chef Shazwan. Very authentic Malaysian food in the heart of London. All the dishes were service quickly and to a very high standard. The Nasi Ayam, Roti Jala and Bihun sup were all great. I came with my friends and ordered their nasi ayam and it was absolutely delicious. The rice was cooked perfectly and the chicken was crunchy in the best way, crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. On top of that, the service was excellent the staff was friendly, quick, and attentive. A satisfying and wholesome meal. Definitely will visit again!! xx

I got a takeaway fish curry which came with rice, half boiled egg, cucumber and tomato. It was absolutely delicious and wrapped so well that the curry was piping hot even 20 minutes later. Service was very friendly and knowledgeable about allergens.

Cafe Rasa hands down serves some of the best Malaysian food I’ve had in a long time! The menu is packed with so many tempting options that it honestly took me a while to decide. I was craving everything. We appreciate receiving the warmest welcome by the staffs Solehah, Johan, Darwish, and the owner Azlina! Love the friendly and energetic atmosphere here. Highly recommend this place to anyone in London or visiting London, craving or curious about authentic Malaysian cuisine. We ordered Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng, Nasi Ayam, Penang Asam Laksa, Bandung, Milo, and the Coconut Shake which is seriously top-tier. The fried chicken? Perfectly crispy, just the right amount of garing. The nasi ayam was full of flavor and well marinated. The laksa has the perfect blend of spice and tanginess that I craved so much. Will definitely be coming back!

I ordered the Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng and it was soooo good! The chicken was my favourite, perfectly cooked and not dry at all. :D Came here with my friends and got to taste their dishes too. The Assam Laksa and Nasi Ayam Rasa Special were absolutely delicious. We were all really satisfied, and I’d 100% eat here again! If you’re craving Malaysian food, you have to check this place out!!!

It was a wonderful experience at Rasa. We tried Malaysian food for the very first time and ordered Jackfruit curry + chicken curry roti canai. Hats off to chef Deepshik for making this an unforgettable food experience for us. Truly amazing!

Amazing Malaysian restaurant in Stratford. The Roti Canai and Nasi Goreng are very good. It's probably the most authentic food you can find outside of Malaysia or Singapore

Excellent Malaysian food. The roti canai is superb, with fresh rotis made rather than frozen parathas sold by some Malaysian restaurants in London. We eat here often when we are in Westfield and have yet to have a bad meal. Highly recommended.

Found this lovely little spot in busy Westfield & can definitely say I'll be coming back to try more of the menu. We tried the Nasu goreng as a main & it was lovely but if you can handle spice definitely ask them to make it spicy as the flavour profile comes out more, it had a lovely balance of sweet & salty with that kick of spice. The highlight for me was the prawn tempura wow it was super fresh & just so enjoyable. Staff were fantastic and super friendly served everyone with a smile.

Their teh tarik (Malaysian Chai) is also must try!

I got food poisoning within 2 hours of eating the prawn Laksa. It wasn’t even that tasty and not very authentic. Thick and powdery. Would never go back.

Food is not authentic and with heavy British adaptation of peas, cauliflower, kale and carrot in Laksa and Kway Teow. Laksa lacked depth of flavour and was not spicy despite ordering spicy version. If you want more authentic Malaysian, I’d look elsewhere.

I was seated down and ordered. Staff told me I need to pay before receiving the meal. The person next to me who was served by the same person didn’t pay before receiving their drink order. I decided not to dine because not all customers are treated the same.

The food and service is amazing here. The chef shazuan knows what’s he’s doing and soleha at front of house is one of the nicest ladies you’ll ever meet.

The food was 10/10 definitely recommend. Soleha was lovely and the food that Shazuan cooked was unbelievable.

The food was amazing. We ordered Roti Canai, Kaya toast, Mee Goreng and Nasi Goreng. The ambience was peaceful. We were smilingly welcomed by Johan who hosted us beautifully. Would definitely recommend it.

2024 It was some kind nice atmosphere the food wasn’t to my expectation sizzling Chicken what was precooked and sliced in panfried egg with some shell on it not spicy at all even I ordered medium spicy and payed for it. The sizzling pan was flooded with gravy not typical Malaisen sauce liquid like water dish on his self very small there is space to improve for 14,95 could get better quality. 2025 This year I was on a Sunday after my kids run the 10K and the dish I eat was expected to taste how I wanted to taste and looked better than last year. Service could improve more but I understand the circumstances of inflation the money is sitting tight in the pocket from consumers the waiters would have being a bit busier they had to much time fooling around. It is not negative meaning hope businesses getting better. Added one star more.

I had an absolutely fantastic dinner at Cafe Rasa Malaysia! It took me back to my hometown with their incredible signature dish, Nasi Lemak. The service from Azim was top-notch, he was so friendly and efficient! And let me tell you, the food prepared by Deeksith was nothing short of amazing! If you're craving Malaysian cuisine, you really have to try this place! Trust me, you won’t regret it!

There are quite a lot of dishes! We also sell some raw materials/seasonings! There are also finished products ~ The shrimp crackers and milk tea are good! Curry Laksa tastes terrible (personal taste) The location is relatively small! No service! Maybe for takeout?

Are here couple times and it was OK. Not exceptional but OK. Today I had the slip and tofu Nasi Lemak and it was disgusting. Paid £21 for bowl of water with couple vegetables swimming in it (what they call "rich and tasty soup) and rice with couple peanuts, slice of cucumber and tomatoes and couple of cubs of tofu in extremely spicy sweet sauce w much burned my mouth. Never again.

The front staff Azim is friendly & helpful. Chef is very attentive on the special request. Very fast service 👍👍

Very busy but saw that as a good thing, ordered takeaway as encouraged by brewery tap next door and staff offered to bring it round rather than wait, all good , food was great except they put the Vegetarian lid on the chicken dish and vice versa! My non meat eating wife was not amused as she had been enjoying the food.

My favourite “makan” place ❤️❤️ when I go to the mall. Fulfilled my unplanned Sunday cravings and never disappoint with the foods, drinks and high standards of customer service despite their busy crowds of dining in! Good portions, served hot and very tasty. Will be back again x

For the price, I didn't think the size was worth it. I was also surprised to pay for the bill when I ordered my food, when I saw other tables pay at the end. This bill also had an added 12.5% service charge, when I had yet to receive much service.

Roti Jala, a Malaysian net crepe eaten during tea time with curry/dhal. The only thing nice at Cafe Rasa. It was actually very nice and similar to an English shrove Tuesday pancake. The dal curry was the best I've had as there were onions and other herbs which made it tasty yet not spicy. I feel that butter chicken would be a good pairing because Malay curry is too spicy and coconutty. I also dipped it in custard and it was delicious.

What can I say. Cannot fault our time at Rasa Malaysia. We arrived late afternoon, about 4:40pm, after enquiring and being informed that they close at 6pm on Sundays and take last orders until 5:30pm. It was starting to quieten down, so we had no problem being seated. The waiter and counter staff were super efficient, very friendly, and attentive, which we appreciated after a long day on our feet. The food was served promptly, and it was nice and warm without being piping hot. We weren't very hungry so just opted for the roti canai (served with dahl curry). I ordered two roti's. My partner ordered the roti canai, but with the chicken curry as a side. She had hers as takeaway. I finished mine whilst seated. It was so flavourful and yummy, so impressed. We haven't been to Rasa in a very long time as we don't live in London, so we only come to Westfields Stratford on the odd occasion. My son just had a roti as he absolutely loves rotis and chapatis. He gave his roti a 10.5 out of 10. He was impressed. I rate my little meal an 8.8 out of 10. The 1.2 missing was twofold (not a huge problem), I do prefer my rotis to be the traditional round shape and not square. Though it was huge, the shape just didn't do it for me. I guess I am a traditionalist. Secondly, the rotis were a bit overcooked...a bit too crispy. I remember the last time we ate here, and I recall the shape wasn't square, and it was prepared a little lighter, so a bit doughy (only slightly), which meant it was softer and fluffier. Today, it was not quite to my exact taste, but I suppose others may prefer it this way. Comes down to personal taste. Overall, I am quite happy with the money spent at Rasa and certainly would recommend Rasa Malaysia 🇲🇾 to others whose palete yearns for some wholesome Malaysian inspired street food. You won't be disappointed. Next time we are in the area, we will try other items on the menu...there is quite a lot to choose from and it all looks delicious.

I had a terrible experience at this restaurant today. Not only did I find hair in my food, but the service was absolutely disrespectful. When I pointed out the issue with the hair, the staff didn’t seem to care and handled the situation with complete indifference, she said “okay, we need the table for other customers anyway”. To make matters worse, when I asked to speak with a manager, the staff member that I was speaking to said “I am the manager, speak to me” in a rude tone. The staff seemed uninterested in resolving the issue, and I left feeling very disrespected. I expect much better hygiene and customer service from any restaurant. I will not be returning and do not recommend this place to anyone looking for a clean and pleasant dining experience.

Nice food, quite a small place. The lady serving didn't tell me that she was adding 12% service charge so feel free to ask before you pay as you don't have to pay service charge. Food was nice and the kids portion was just about right.

Normally, I love rasa sayang. I always go here when I visit Westfield. However, today I wasn’t a fan. I ordered for takeaway since it was late. The banana and roti canai had barely any chocolate or banana. It was most just canai. The noodles I got for my little brother were empty. Barely full and not much in it. I was disappointed with my visit today. Usually this place is amazing. Maybe it was just an off day.

I visited this restaurant for the first time and wasn’t familiar with the menu, but the experience was incredibly pleasant thanks to the excellent service. Vaishnavi, my server, patiently explained and recommended dishes I really enjoyed. A special shout-out to the chef, Darwish, for preparing such flavourful dishes. This combination of attentive service and amazing food makes me want to come back soon.

A Disappointing Experience – Not Worth Your Time or Money I recently dined at Rasa Malaysia Westfield shopping center in Stratford, London, and I must say it was a thoroughly disappointing experience. As someone who has traveled extensively in Malaysia and is very familiar with authentic Malaysian flavors, I had high expectations, but sadly, this eatery fell short on every front. The food was utterly tasteless and lacked the bold and vibrant flavors synonymous with Malaysian cuisine. To make matters worse, the portion sizes were ridiculously small – certainly not worth the prices they charge. Adding insult to injury, they tack on an additional 12.5% service charge to the bill, which is completely unjustified given the subpar quality of both the food and the service. The entire experience left me dismayed and dissatisfied. If you’re looking for a genuine Malaysian culinary experience, this is not the place to find it. Save your time, money, and appetite for a restaurant that actually delivers on its promises. I strongly recommend giving this place a miss.

I am a Malaysian travelling to UK. For 2 years straight, my friend and I would go to Rasa to get aunthentic Malaysian food or if we miss home. This place is definitely our go to and we would not look for other place. The staffs are really friendly and nice. We felt just right at home everytime we come here. Food-wise, it is definitely authentic. Portion is big and price is reasonable. If you go here, try their Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken. It’s so darn good. And cassava cake for dessert. Teh tarik too tastes like home. Recommended!

I had a great dine-in experience at Rasa on my first visit—staff were friendly, and the food was good. However, my second visit for takeaway left me very disappointed. I arrived to pick up my order, and since my bags were heavy, I noticed several empty tables and decided to sit and wait. One staff member asked me to vacate the seat for dine-in customers, which I did. But when I moved to another empty table, the same staff member asked me again to give up my seat for another dine-in guest. It felt like takeaway customers were being treated as second-class citizens. There was no assistance offered, and the focus seemed solely on dine-in customers. I understand that dine-in customers may require more attention, but the lack of care or acknowledgment for takeaway customers was frustrating. I hope this is not the standard practice at Rasa, as I was really disappointed by this experience. Takeaway customers deserve the same level of courtesy and service as dine-in guests.

I had a nice experience,the staff are very welcoming especially Soleha * smiling and she has a really good customer service. Also the food is nice since it is my first experience with Malisian food I do recommend it
