A very cute café which is decently priced, the first time we went there we didn't have our wallets and they still allowed us to have a cafe (this was back during COVID) and i went back to pay after our dog walk.

I live local but not been here before so I am not sure of the etiquette. I therefore stood just inside the door waiting to be approached so I could ask for a table. I stood there for almost 5 minutes and staff looked at me several times but didn't approach me. I therefore went to the counter to ask for a table for one. The gentleman scanned the room and said he could put me on the high table with stool.. i advised i was unable to sit there.. he looked a bit confused because I looked able bodied (not all disabilities are visible). He then looked again at the room (there were 3 vacant tables.. 2 of which sat 4 people and 1 table was made up of 2 tables pushed together.. they could have been separated into 2 tables of 2). Anyway... none were offered and instead I was told I could sit on the low lounge chair in the window. I declined and left. A message to the owner... I've had a very bad day and really needed something to eat and drink. It took a lot to walk into your cafe alone as I'm not usually able to do this. Your service was awful and has now set me back even further.. had I been elderly would you have offered me these seating options? Business is already suffering in this country and I am surprised you were prepared to turn away in the hope you may have a larger party arriving who you would provide a proper table to. I never write reviews on trip adviser but I just want you to know how much you affected me today

I just visited Cafe Rana with my 2 year old twins and the team were so so kind and lovely. It made it so much more manageable. I had a lovely omelette and the kids enjoyed their toastie. Plus there are 2 highchairs which was a good send. Thank you for being so welcoming and helpful.

Excellent facility with a warm welcome from Wendy. Variety of dishes to suit most persons in friendly meeting place.

The food was great. Only disappointment was that the cafe cannot accept card payments. How the other shops can accept payment but the cafe doesn’t? There is a cash point close by, but I don’t normally carry any cards to take cash out. I will not be returning for that reason.

We go to Cafa Rana a lot but on a few occasions we have gone in at 2.15 for a coffee. . Plenty of time as closes at 4pm. A few times we have felt very uncomfortable as they started packing up at about 2.45. Hardly had time to finish our coffee. They took it away before we inished. We left at 3pm and were last out. They shut the doors behind us hour before closing time. Won't be gong there again for a while.

Lovely cafe. Friendly staff and a relaxing atmosphere. I stop here on the way home from dropping my son to nursery for my hour relax with a cuppa

Came here late morning to have a look. There seems to be a large menu with plenty of choice. Paninis, coffees, breakfasts, cakes and a separate children's menu. There was a long queue to get served so could eat here today as I was in a rush to get some errands done. Will certainly consider this cafe in the future when there are less people waiting.

Absolutely phenomenal and wonderful to be able to revisit such a welcoming establishment after I had been away with a debilitating injury for a long time. My daughter and her family ordered an afternoon tea, takeaway, from Cafe Rana in Tonteg,Pontypridd, to pick up for my husband, Alex for his birthday. He very kindly shared it with me ha ha! Just as well, it was so filling we had to finish it the following day! It was so tasty, My daughter had a problem picking it up at 12.30 due to a car malfunction so phoned the lady to say she wouldn't be there at the time specified. The lady was so kind and stayed open until my daughter arrived! Thank you so much, it saved a very uninspiring birthday into something special during this lockdown period!

Well set up for covid restrictions. However seems the prices have gone up as a consequence. Shame.

Well worth a visit order some Welsh cakes with your drinks, you won't regret it. Enjoy!

A fab spot and atmosphere. Sandwiches on offer of all sorts and made freshly cut. Super for a coffee and a chat on the hill. Serving staff attentive and helpful. ☕🍰

Nice modern cafe. Staff wore visors or masks, very polite. Adult and kids breakfasts were spot on. No complaints at all. The Butty Hut is still out favourite place for a breakfast but Cafe Rana have great value for money

We go there every few weeks for a coffee and some food. Staff are always lovely and helpful and remember you which is a nice touch. Food is great too. 100% recommend.

I was looking for a coffee to drink while doing deliveries and came across this place. I must say I am so glad I stopped as it was one of the best I've had while out driving and at a great price. Will definitely be stopping again there

Nicest food I've ever tasted from a cafe

Great food lots of choice and always hot and tasty. I had homemade soup today came with a pot of grated cheese and half a buttered baguette. Also the jacket potatoes are always perfectly cooked. Good prices and attentive staff who are always happy to help. It's in the heart of the community and has a relaxed feel with lots of locals coming back time and time again. Plenty parking round the back and spotless toilet facilities.

Always a lovely welcome at Cafe Rana I can recommend the jacket potatoes, the toasted tea cakes and have yet to try their afternoon tea specials. Sandwiches are excellent well worth a visit to this very popular place.

This cafe had a good atmosphere food was really good very fresh staff were great.

A bit overpriced for what we had, and limited menu. No omelettes, and I have to say that I am glad. I fear what they would do to an omelette after getting a solid yolk in my egg. Liked the thickness of my thick bread. However, I would be surprised if that bread was delivered this morning...saying that, they don't open till nine! Lots of staff, but none offered to set up the high chair. The cafe is the cornerstone of the Welsh valleys, and this was evident by the amount of older people drinking coffee. However, no one eating food as I saw. Now I know why. I am not a coffee expert so someone else will have to do that review. I doubt that I will return. Good luck, though. You'll need it. I would employ and trained batista and drop the menu.

I love coming here with my family for breakfast. The staff are always friendly and the breakfast is always tasty. It is a lovely little cafe in such a lovely town.

We live local & have walked past the Cafe Rana, for a number of years since it opened, I’ve noticed that it appears to have built up a nice trade & often quite busy & looking presentable from the outside & tastefully decorated inside kept meaning to give it a try one day, Myself & two other adults were walking back from Salem Chapel this morning, on the spur of the moment & all feeling quite hungry decided to have an 11am breakfast, We all chose the 3 standard breakfasts, what I’m about to write is 100% accurate of the standard of food served to us & is not an over exaggerated Review of our experiences, The fried eggs were over cooked the yolk should be soft sunny side up & not hard like a boiled egg, the bacon was also hard & dried up & was not cooked to order!!! You will get this kind of texture with bacon when it’s been previously cooked about an hour an half before hand and kept warm in a tray in the oven in tin foil or some other means, the sausages were undercooked & tasted like some cheap value range sausages, Mushrooms were not included but you could add them for the extra 70p per portion, freshly chopped mushrooms we thought & ordered 3 portions, when our breakfasts arrived we all felt disgusted & short changed that a Cafe Coffee Shop in this day and age 2018 would even have the audacity to serve up Tinned Sliced Mushrooms, there is really no need to be doing this it’s bang out of order in my view & was not mentioned on the menu. The only good thing that was positive was the slice of freshly cut toasted brown bread on our plates, but that even managed to be served burnt if I was the owner of the Cafe Rana the Chef / Manager would no longer be working for me, if I wanted to eat a breakfast of the standard that was served to us we would have gone to a supermarket, Will we eat in Cafe Rana again? The Answer to that is no never ever!!! & will continue to walk straight past in future.

Absolutely love taking my family here I enjoy a coffee, my husband loves the obama rana, my son loves the sausage, beans and toast and my daughter enjoys the scrambled egg and toast, staff are so warm and friendly and nothing is ever too much trouble, we always feel very welcomed. Me and my daughter took my mum, who’s in a wheelchair over for breakfast. When we got there 9.30 the doors were open so we went in and sat down. All the staff were sitting there having their breakfast and at no time did they acknowledge us or say they wouldn’t be long or anything. We waited five minutes then got up and walked out -still with no acknowledgment. How rude and unprofessional! I’d heard it had gone downhill but I didn’t realise how far. Certainly won’t be going there again

Enjoyed a fabulous lunch with family visiting for Easter. My 93yr mam had bbq Chicken/Bacon/Mayo panini she said best she has ever tasted. Clean comfortable friendly cafe with great choice menu and reasonably priced. Keep up the good work.

Been going to Cafe Rana for years but lately the food has not been great. Had a toastie with Bacon in and it was so hard I couldn’t eat it. I told a member of staff who wasn’t bothered not offered refund or alternative. Gave it another go and had a panini that was undercooked and soggy. Sorry Rana but I won’t be rushing back anytime soon which is a shame.

Enjoyed tea and cake in very pleasant clean surroundings. Service was friendly and we were handed a loyalty card which may prove handy as the menu choice was excellent so hope to return.

We tried the Christmas turkey roll priced at £5.50 each. The turkey was processed and not fresh with stuffing and cranberry sauce. It came with crisps and a small salad. Overpriced for plastic turkey! Coffee also weak needs to upgrade the coffee maker.

Visited this lovely café when in the area last week. I attended with my girlfriend for a breakfast and a cup of tea which was to a very high standard. Portion sizes are generous and the service we received was very good. We also noticed when in the café that they have now planned for Christmas afternoon tea's over the festive period. A lovely café with a great atmosphere.

Breakfast took ages, came cold they for forgot my toast. Very expensive for what we had. The coffe was nice hence the 1 star. We were not the only people feeling dissapointed by the looks of it

I have been a customer of this cafe for 7 years; when I moved away from the area I drove from rhoose once a week to visit with my son as it is such a lovely, friendly place, with good food. It is very baby and child friendly (I first came when my son was a week old, and he still enjoys coming now 7 years later.) Many of the staff have been at the cafe many years and are very friendly. I am so pleased that Wendy is now the owner as I know the cafe will continue to provide a wonderful service to the community. I would recommend this cafe to everyone.

Stopped and treated ourselves to breakfast this morning only to be left very disappointed. The sausages and bacon were reheated and the breakfast was advertised as including a slice of doorstop toast but, was just an ordinary slice of cheap bread. The cakes are advertised as being homemade but the ones on display look surprisingly similar to those sold in Costco. Unsure what lunch would be like but would definitely not recommend visiting for breakfast. Overpriced for such cheap tasting food. Sorry cafe rana but was very disappointed and won't be visiting again.

I had a chicken tikka salad here. The chicken tikka was cold sandwich filling. I usually have jacket potatoe or tuna. At 12.30 they didn't have any left. Really dissapointed today.

Excellent cafe with a great selection of baguettes jacket potatoes and cakes as well as a good variety of lunchtime meals. Great selection of coffee's all above at very reasonable prices. Also the portions of food are very generous. Excellent value for money and we'll worth a visit.
