Cafe Pronto in Southwark

Popped in for a cup of tea early one Friday morning. Staff were really friendly, Masters has been established since 1983, and the fact it is still going despite the shear volume of high street coffee chains on Blackfriars road is a credit to them; pret, Costa and Starbucks within a few minutes. My tea was a lovely large cup. The cafe was clean. The toilets were clean. They had a great value breakfast menu, salads, omelettes, jacket potatoes and sandwiches for lunch, all reasonably priced for London I have to say! I snapped some photos for people, but would definitely visit there again if I was in the area!

Excellent home cooked food, at a very reasonable price and served by charming staff …what more could you want? The food and the service are consistently very good and we love going here.

We had our office Christmas party here, 40 of us, and *everyone* thought it was absolutely excellent. Freshly cooked, tasty food served with a smile…and at a very reasonable price. Five-star experience.

One thing about Lockdown was my visits to Masters but now we are heading back to offices it was key to go and see the staff and have a breakfast they serve so well, great to see them all again and the food is just as good Hopefully many more costs to come in near future

2nd time there, first time fine for a sandwich but today I got lasagne (takeaway) and it was just full of salt, so much it was inedible. I will not be revisiting, guys you cannot sell a lasagne that is so salty you cannot eat it. Not satisfied at all.

What can I say, fab staff friendly helpful and always happy, and the food is well nice! It's a must for good food and fantastic service x

This Cafe was about 2 blocks from our hotel and we had breakfast here each day of our 3 day trip to London. The staff were efficient and friendly. Food was excellent and we thought great value for money. Portions and quality were great. Coffee was great, and by day 2, our waitress just brought us our coffee orders, to start us off. I would not hesitate to recommend this Cafe to anyone. We were a party of 4, and not one day were we disappointed.

We took our two teenagers for a late breakfast to Masters. Soon as we walked in the staff were so welcoming. Such a fab atmosphere with the best breakfast you could ask for. Can’t wait to go back again

We had just got of the train at Waterloo and were searching for our hotel in what seemed like monsoon season. Feeling soaked and fed up, we stopped off for a quick bite to eat to galvanise ourselves, not expecting anything very much. How wrong we were, we shared a lovely tuna sandwich and one of my comfort food favourites, fish finger sandwich. Both were freshly prepared, the fish wasn't bog-standard pre-formed and the coffee was far better than some well-known chain coffee shops offer. Just the job to send us on our way to eventually find the hotel.

We popped in here for breakfast and had the hangover breakfast bap, good portions and great quality, waitress very friendly and professional, very nice thankyou

Me encantó este café / deli / restaurante: fuimos a almorzar y nos sentimos abrumados por las opciones de ensaladas, rellenos, panes, quiches, tortillas, papas al horno, etc. muy sabrosas. Nos quedamos con muchas opciones pero nos decidimos por el quiche de champiñones y espinacas , coronación de pollo y atún ni oise, todos deliciosos. También tomamos una botella de vino y la factura era increíblemente razonable para cualquier lugar, sin importar Londres.Servicio muy amable y atento. Nos sentamos afuera, un ambiente agradable y fácil viendo pasar el mundo. Es un lugar de tamaño razonable y comprensiblemente se hizo muy popular a medida que avanzaba la hora del almuerzo. Very good prices for London. We have tuna melt, salad and drink and it was £8.50 to eat in for each. Service was not sharp but friendly. Good place to build up your own sandwich or lunch. Good for take away.

Cansados y necesitados de un lugar tranquilo, llegamos aquí a eso de las 3. 50 hs. Nos advirtieron que cerraban a las 5 pm y estarían limpiando hasta entonces, pero nos hicieron sentir bienvenidos. Hay una excelente variedad de comida, entre nosotros tuvimos un sándwich de club con papas, atún y chili con carne. Y sus helados también son encantadores.

I pop in here a few times a month for a breakfast treat. The staff are super friendly, it's clean and it's reasonably priced. We've now started coming for the odd informal team breakfast and the whole gang rates it! If you are looking for reliable, well priced, super friendly place to start your day do try it. It's sometime full in the morning so don't be surprised if you find tables reserved. Always a good sign.

Started doing a part time masters at lsbu around the corner and 10 of us found this gem on our second day. It’s a busy spot but seem to find a way of fitting us in.

I pass on my way to work every day and find it hard not to pop in and get my bacon baguette and latte. the bacon egg and sausage bap is more than worth it as well

Come here twice a week. Best bacon sandwich in London It’s on a major cycle route so I justify the bacon sandwich by saying I have cycled. Staff great. Worth five stars. One suggestion - improve the WiFi as it can be temperamental.

Great food, friendly staff and very reasonably priced all things considered. They absolutely pack your portion sizes! Haven't tried the hot food yet but will certainly be giving it a go in the near future.

Every morning I now get my sandwich at Masters and every mourning greeted by the lovely smile of the staff who now know my sandwich order, the fillings are generous and price very reasonable for what you get, much better than our staff restaurant, it’s also a great place to meet people for early morning meetings as well with a well presented breakfast

Yo solía trabajar en Londres por unos 10 años. El lugar en el que solía trabajar en estaba enfrente Cafe Pronto y teníamos ofertas de almuerzo en Cafe Pronto con nuestro contrato laboral. Llegué a conocer el gerente de Maddie y otros emploees muy bien. Fueron siempre muy amables. La comida era siempre generoso, fresco y muy sabroso. Me hicieron redundante a principios del 2012 y hemos estado en ningún sitio cerca de Londres nota ya porque ahora trabajo localmente. A menudo pensar pronto y todas las veces. Supongo MASTERS es el mismo lugar todavía. Si lo es, muy recomendable.

Fast food cooked well by great friendly staff, on time, it is what it says on the tin, decent - honest food for the busy lunch hour for southbank folk. There should be one everywhere - beats the pants off the chains across the road by leagues !! Which is why those in the know go there - 10 out of 10 x

Fuimos hoy aquí con mi marido, que trabaja en Londres y en ocasiones se come para el desayuno, así que quería compartirlo. . . . Caramba. Paramos en Masters para un desayuno durante todo el día en un día de semana al mediodía. Nos encantó la comida, el tamaño pan delicioso crujiente con mantequilla en el lado y el café con el desayuno incluido era un café con leche caliente. El servicio era rápido y amable. I liked Masters which is on Blackfriars Road, close to Southwark underground station. The menu is extremely wide ranging and includes salads, baguettes, ciabattas, deli items and so on. There are a lot of really good fresh food items. My veggie sandwich was excellent. The cafe also serves a good range of breakfast items. Servoce was fast and friendly and the place had a very pleasant atmosphere all round.

Stopped here for food before business meeting and had really tasty ciabatta. Endless choices on menu both hot and cold, fresh past dishes, salads and more. Staff friendly but does get busy at lunchtime.

The staff come across extremely rude and impolite, in particular a short chubby woman with black hair tied up, I did not manage to get her name however she seemed to tell me more than 3 times about the 30p charge on credit cards which I had already agreed to and did not seem to understand I agreed to this already and kept telling me to add something to my bill. She was extremely unpleasant in her attitude as well and will not be coming back

Visited Pronto today during a lunch break at work. There is always a lunchtime queue of people waiting for the takeaway options (which is a good sign) and the hot food always looks appealing. Service was prompt and very friendly, the staff are always friendly and chatty with the customers. My colleague and I both opted for the meat lasagne (one of the daily specials) which arrived within a couple of minutes and were extremely generous portions accompanied by a fairly large fresh salad. The lasagne was delicious and, judging by the number of other customers who had it, very popular. The price was £7.50 for the meal, which I think was very reasonable for the area especially when the quality and size of the meal is taken into consideration. You'll be hard pushed to find a nicer cafe in the area.

Had the hangover breakfast, sausage, egg and bacon on a large bap. Very nice, even if you don't have a hangover. the table service was fantastic, prompt, cheery, efficient.

If you want to be spoilt for choice this is definitely the place to go, lots of possible combinations made freshly to order. A very busy bustling place that still has time for a personal welcome!

They have a lot of choice.Nice salads, sandwich, but the omelettes and fries are not good at all.The staff is nice, and fast. It's a bit small and it's always busy at lunch so you have a queue from outside. You can eat in, there is small table, but after 5 min in this place, you smell the fast food which is not great ....

Found this place while heading out to the IWM. Stopped off for brunch for a party of 8. Food and service were both excellent. Can highly recommend the full English breakfast for quality and value for money. Great menu and enough variety for breakfast or lunch to suit all tastes.

I chose this based on the good reviews, needing somewhere for a quick bite before a business meeting in the area and wasn't disappointed.Excellent, tasty salt beef on rye sandwich with coleslaw and salad - a plentiful serving, provided quickly, despite it being a busy lunchtime. Nice mix of hot dishes and sandwiches to choose from. Plenty of local office workers came for takeaway lunch, with the friendly staff taking their apparently regular orders.

I regularly visit Cafe Pronto for my breakfast or lunch, having worked in the area for almost two years now, I will never get bored. Staff & ServiceThe staff are friendly, accommodating and the service is amazing. They want to know you by name and actively take an interest in your day and always wish you a great day/ weekend after.They always have a smile on their face when serving and that alone is a breath of fresh air! As I am there so regularly they now deny my tips, but I give them tips anyway!Food & ChoiceThe food in this place is unparalleled to any other cafe/ restaurant in indeed this area or any other in London. The extensive choice, the generous portions and importantly the good value makes this place one you need to visit, whether for business or leisure.I often like to try two of the five hot food specials of the day and they happily oblige to serving 'half and half'. The flavours of the food isn't bland either, they got good quality products and great tasting food.In my office we now have "Lasagne Thursday", which you guessed it, is when they're serving their Lasagne dish on Thursday. It is extremely popular amongst my office and they all purposefully don't bring in lunch to enjoy this amazing dish.It doesn't stop at the food either, they have an immense choice of drinks to accompany any dish you consume too.Quick & EfficientAs you can imagine it is a popular place, and often around lunchtime there is admittedly a queue, but that's not to say you're waiting ages either. I hesitate to write a gushing review of Cafe Pronto, only because I don't want it to become harder to find a vacant table for myself there than it already is. However, to repay the kindness and value they've shown me each of the six times I've been served there, I owe them this shout from the cyber rooftops: in ten years of repeated visits to London, Cafe Pronto is the best no-frills little restaurant I've ever found.From what I've seen, not many tourists bother to stroll this far south on Blackfriars. Cafe Pronto is situated on a block that feels like "real people" London. The place swarms with locals during morning and lunch rush hours, with sit-down and takeaway business incredibly brisk. I suppose some of those regular customers are nearby office workers who come because it's one of the only places to grab a cooked meal in the immediate area, but I suspect the bigger reason for the crowds is this: Cafe Pronto serves good hot food at low prices.Their daily specials rotate. Here's what the lunch board proffered on Wed, 9 March. The first number listed with each item is the price for takeaway; the second number is the price if you eat at the café. "Poached salmon with potato & vegetable: 600, 750. Green Thai chicken curry with rice: 600, 750. Meat balls with spaghetti: 600, 750. Roast vegetable pesto pasta: 580, 700. Chilli con Carne or jacket potatoes: 580, 750." I haven't had it myself, but my friend Randy (more on him later) swears by the Pronto's full English breakfast. I've twice had the Chilli con Carne (see included photo). It's not spicy or even particularly flavorful, but it’s hot and it's filling. I couldn’t eat it all, and I can eat a lot. Their various pasta with vegetable entrees have a bit more flavor, but let me make this clear: you're not at Cafe Pronto to have your tastebuds blown away by some inventive new twist. You're here to get happily full, with good simple home cooking in your belly, not to rave about sampling the trendiest cutting edge chef. This is a basic cafe and, to my mind, in London it has no peer. My favorite menu item is their eggs Benedict. (Please see my included photo.) Trust me, there is no better hangover brunch than Cafe Pronto's eggs Benedict with the Americano coffee.So there's the great price, the generous portions, the impressive variety of food, and the authentic crowd of real Londoners. As great as all that is, Cafe Pronto's primary selling point--- its secret weapon--- is Alina. Alina is without a doubt the best server I've ever encountered in London, and she's among the best I've met anywhere. In 2014 my buddy and I happened in. We were staying at the Mad Hatter Hotel five blocks north on Blackfriars (as I've done twice now; check out my five bubble review) and just wandering the neighborhood looking for chow. With stomachs growling urgently and no alluring restaurants beckoning in the area, Randy craned his neck back toward Cafe Pronto and said, "What about that place? They're open." I glanced at the unassuming exterior and replied--- with words I would soon be eating, along with my satisfying lunch--- "Really? It doesn't look like much." If you're the sort of person I could be friends with, you'll recall what Han Solo retorted to Luke Skywalker in 1977's STAR WARS when Luke blithely cast aspersions on the Millennium Falcon. "She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid." That's Cafe Pronto. Randy and I ate there twice, charmed by the simple and affordable grub and by Alina, who provides quick, no-nonsense service and stimulating conversation. When I returned to London last month and slid into a chair, I said to Alina, "Hi. I don't expect you to remember, but I was here two years ago from Florida with my cowboyfriend. We had a great talk with you about the cultural differences between America and eastern Europe..." "You sat out there," she interrupted me with a smile, pointing to the small patio. "Yes!" I exclaimed. "Our table was wobbly, and you kneeled down to stuff a napkin under one of the legs to steady it." That's Alina, the MacGyver of waitresses. (1980s American television reference; my apologies to everyone whose head that goes over.)The service in general at Cafe Pronto is fine, but count yourself lucky if you're in Alina's section. I notched up four visits this March, and she looked after me each time. Her friendliness alone is reason enough to stop by.On my next overseas jaunt to London, I know exactly where my first cup of coffee will be. See you there! Just save me a seat if it's crowded.

Vi åt ägg bacon ( traditionell variant) croissant( något kompakt) , grek yogurt( lite väl mycket honung), en toasted ciabatta med tomat, mozzarella salami mm ( mycket bra) Helhetsintryck med service så är det definitivt ett bra café ordentlig frukost

We have popped in a couple of times when we were in the area. It's a place we will keep going back to - it does the job perfectly.As other reviews said, the staff are fantastic, which always add a lot to any place. But there's no compromise - a great choice of food, nicely prepared. Perfect.

Calling it a greasey spoon is unfair. It's a spacious, unpretentious, family run cafe. Great service, great, simple food at a good price. A very nice change from the increasingly bland spread of homogenous mush.

We stayed in a nearby Travelodge and ate here most mornings. The food was excellent quality and service was very efficient with a very nice waitress each morning. Would definitely recommend.

The staff are very accommodating and friendly, they not only try and learn your name but knows your food preference. I personally don't like cheese with my salad so they would know what to put in my plate. They are quite happy to give me extra egg rather than hash brown for my full English breakfast or when I order just tea and toast they are happy to give me one jam and one peanut butter with out any questions. The café is very clean and very good price for the quantity and quality you get. I will recommend to anyone. Even my children wants to eat in Café Pronto whenever they are off school. Kristine

I visited this cafe at breakfast time and found that it was quite busy, however I found a seat ok. The staff were very friendly and efficient and I saw that there was a good quality menu. It's a little pricey but it's worth it and much better than the likes of Pret which is across the road!Looking at the food that people were ordering, it all looked amazing and will certainly visit here again if I'm in the area!

I went there because I saw good reviews (in top 100) but the food was average. The quantity was good but the taste and service were not worth the good reviews ...OK place, not excellent.

I love this place. I go here for lunch sometimes. It's always absolutely packed to the rimm, but the service is fast. Mixing your own healthy and filling salad is one of my favorites. Or customizing a sandwich. Great prices too. Only around £4-6 pounds for a filling, healthy lunch.

We are staying at a nearby Travel lodge at Southwark . Luckily we called into Pronto and were pleasantly surprised at the super range of baguettes,salads,pasta dishes on offer . The food is freshly made and delicious. There is great banter amongst the staff who are very friendly. I would definitely recommend Pronto highly .

We go here regularly because the food is quick not greasy or oily and there is a massive variety. If you go here at lunchtime you will see the queue go out the door. There is seating inside and outside and the staff are really friendly so why pay a fortune for expensive food when here you can get service with a smile!

Queues out the door but having never been before decided must be good sign. Staff very friendly, efficient and served the paninis hot, sliced and well presented. Pleasantly surprised to find outstanding customer service and if in area again would like to try other dishes. Well done to the staff team - it's so nice to take our business to those who deserve it rather than chains. Very reasonably priced too!

The variety is fabulous, with salads, hot food, sandwiches etc it's a real treat to go there and choose what you want rather than venturing to chains such as Pret all the time.The pasta dishes are fantastic!

I work nearby and have been a customer of Cafe Pronto for nearly ten years. The staff are friendly and service is quick. The queue is sometimes out the door, which shows how popular the place is, but you don't normally have to wait long.Whether you're there for a panini, salad or hot meal there's always a good choice and I was pleased to see they have recently introduced some new panini options.Oh and they do a great Christmas dinner with all the trimmings!With a supermarket and coffee shop opening across the road I was worried that it might affect business at Prontos, but it seems busy as ever. Support your local independant cafe and pay Cafe Pronto a visit!

I could not recommend Café Pronto enough. The sheer quality of the food is absolutely out of this world. Extremely swift and friendly service. Don't let the queue put you off as you'll get efficiently served no matter how busy they are and the staff are second to none when it comes to enthusiasm and competency.I think all of the cooked items on the menu come in giant portions, but most of all you simply have to try the assorted salad. A "medium" is enough to fill me up for the afternoon. This is not just a dash of lettuce and tomato, as this is salad designed for the Gods. Whatever you can think of, it's in there and of the highest quality with full flavour.. When you order it too they'll ask you if there's anything you don't want just in case you have any particular preference. Just go all out I say and let them improvise.

This place is the blueprint for the perfect local cafe. You have three separate areas - a sandwich counter, salad bar bad hot food counter, all of which are beautifully presented, fresh and are very popular at lunchtime. For £4 you get a sandwich about 2 1/2 times the size of anything at the well known chains, made in front of your eyes.

My colleagues & I visit here regularly - perfect for a business lunch. There is often a queue for both eat in and take out however service is excellent and prompt so you don't wait long.The queue, by the way, is testament to how good this place is. It is so refreshing to get high quality independent non-chain outlets in London - so much better than others.Service is always first class; if you visit often you don't even need to tell the staff what your drink and food choices are.Food is always fresh and tasty - excellent; do not miss!

Aye here because breakfast in hotel too expensive. Very pleasant staff served quickly. Poached eggs toast and bacon were well presented and at only 6:50 a bargain. Worth a walk for breakfast would recommend.

I had a very good full English breakfast . the waitress was very attend and she explained to me and gave me options. Food and service is excellent. Good quality and not expensive .

Cafe Pronto & team rocks.Their service, food & everything is awesome. But I would like to suggest that it would be great if the staff wear gloves while making sandwiches. You never know if the staff has cuts or bruises on hands & that coming in direct contact with the food is absolutely unhygienic.

I've been a lunchtime regular at Cafe Pronto for over a year now and it's always friendly, great value and high quality.Cafe Pronto is always busy so be prepared to queue at peak times but they get through the queue quickly and efficiently.Thanks to Maddie and her team for running such a good example of local non-chain business

Had a lovely first lunch experience at this place on a Friday. It offers great food quality, fast service and has a nice, warm atmosphere. Don't expect it to be posh, go there to try out some great, fresh food.I was meeting an old friend and she was travelling in to London. We wanted to maximise time together as she was only here for a couple of hours so decided we would find a place close to the station. We found this cafe on Tripadvisor as it was a short cab ride away from Waterloo station (you could walk there from the station in about 10 minutes). I had called the cafe earlier in the morning to ask about table availability and the manager kindly reserved a nice table for two at the window. It was a good thing that we had reserved as the place was very busy when we arrived (It's a popular eatery for office workers around the area, who drop in to pick up fresh food). But once seated (and chatting away) we forgot about the lunchtime commotion that was going on at the counter. We ordered home made bolognese, a tricolore salad and a piri-piri ciabatta. The food appearance looked 'home-made' so don't expect it to look superbly presented but the quality (in particular the salad) was excellent and the portions were generous. The service was fast and efficient. All in all, we felt this had ticked all our boxes for a quick lunch get-together.

I'm lucky enough to work just around the corner from Pronto's and can safely say it's one of the best cafes I've ever been to.More than just your standard selection of sandwiches and salads, they have an ever changing aray of pasta dishes, bakes and sometimes a roast dinner to choose from. All fresh delicious and extremely good value. The service is friendly, efficient, always excellent. I love this place and I hope I never have to change jobs!

The lines here at lunch time say it all - it's always busy and there's no guess as to why. They have a very good range of food to choose from, hot and cold options and the prices are quite decent given the central London location.

I come to prontos everyday for work lunches and breakfast. The food is delicious! Homemade salad bars, fresh Greek yogurts and berries, yummy toasted sandwiches and the hot food counter which changes daily is amazing! The staff are superb and service is excellent. They treat you like a persons and my a number !

Amazing amount of choice, from hot pasta and fish dishes, fresh sandwich fillings, breakfast, panini's , etcService was good, despite the place being packed out for my lunchtime visit.I was really impressed with the quality of the food, and the amazing choice on offer. Will definitely return to try some of the other options!

We were very pleased to find this nice 'brasserie'. The food is fresh, lots of choice and nicely presented. The price is very good indeed, especially for London.We stayed at the Ibis Blackfriar and Cafe Pronto is a few hundred yards down the road, past the tubestation 'Southwark.'

I have lunch here almost every lunchtime. They are always super friendly, the food is always delicious and I am always so impressed with their rapidity - other businesses should take note of their smooth operational efficiency - you'll see a queue coming out the door and be served within minutes. An accomplished balance of huge variety and great quality.

This is good place to fill up on good quality grub. They have a wide range of hot dishes and specials and also do sushi, salads and snacks. The staff are always cheery, helpful and welcoming and the fact that the cafe is always busy speaks for itself. You can even eat outside on the pavement terrace if the sun is out! Check it out!!

If you are in the area and you're hungry visit it! Really nice food with good prices. Always happy staff. Glad I've found it. Visit it every other day!
