Cafe Monico in City of London, Westminster

Cenamos temprano aquí el verano pasado con nuestros tres hijos. Antes de las prisas tan buen servicio. Todas las comidas fueron excelentes, y mi Carbonara no solo era muy tradicional, sino la mejor que he probado. Este fue el mejor restaurante en el que comimos mientras estábamos en Londres, y fue mejor que un par de restaurantes tradicionales muy conocidos y altamente calificados. El barman de cócteles fue uno de los mejores, y el cóctel exclusivo fue excelente. Esta será nuestra primera opción para cenar la próxima vez que visitemos Londres.

Not fast, so plan ahead. I went Prix Fixe and it was excellent. not fast but a sitdown was nice and I sat upstairs by the window and watched outside. Very good food.

Restaurant très bien situé à la décoration soignée. Le personnel est aux petits soins. Côté nourriture vous ne serez pas déçu ! Nous avons testé le fish&chips et le burger. Les prix sont abordables. Foncez !

Ordered the fish & chips, the smallest piece of fish we have ever seen (the size of a fish finger, complained to the manager and full refund given, that said it was for a special birthday celebration and completely ruined the occasion, would not return.

Been here several times over the past couple of years and consistency is its biggest problem. Sometimes it’s very good, in terms of both food and service, but sometimes it’s awful. A few weeks ago I had a delicious beef shin pasta dish which was beautifully presented and tasted sensational. The Penicillin cocktail was superb too, made by a friendly & supremely knowledgeable bartender. Service was quick, attentive and very efficient. On last night’s visit however, everything was off - the food and the service were mediocre at best. The beef bourguignon was a mountain of overcooked meat in a thick gravy with two small carrots placed on top, served with a dull mashed potato. There were no mushrooms or any other vegetables in the sauce. It felt like the leftover steaks from yesterday’s service had been roughy chopped up and slow cooked to within an inch of their lives in a vat of Bisto gravy granules. Then re-heated in the microwave before serving. Really not good. The pumpkin ravioli on the other hand was really very good. Tasty and a sensible portion size, as opposed to the meat mountain I was served. The Penicillin cocktail was much less flavourful than before - poorly presented too. Service started well with a friendly welcome at the door but our waitress (and seemingly most of the waiting staff) was dead-eyed and disinterested. When it came to paying the bill we ended up having to take it downstairs to find anyone willing to take our money as we’d waited over 20 minutes without any attention by this point. It’s a shame as it’s a lovely room and the bar is beautifully lit - I’d call it flattering light rather than it being dark.

Consejo: debido a su ubicación, las tablas solo se guardan durante 2 horas, ya que está situado entre los teatros Sondheim y Gielgud. Es un gran restaurante y ofrece un menú a la carta o de precio fijo antes del teatro. En el interior está un poco oscuro, aunque estábamos ubicados cerca de las ventanas del piso de arriba, lo que ayuda: ¡los pasajeros del autobús de la cubierta superior te observan mientras comes! Optamos por el menú pre teatro que, como es la norma, tenía una elección limitada. El parfait de hígado de pollo estaba bien, servido con tostadas de masa fermentada y 2 pequeños pepinillos que parecían un poco apologéticos en el plato. Los platos principales eran filete de 5 oz servido con papas fritas y pescado y papas fritas. El tamaño de las porciones era pequeño y el bistec no tenía sabor. El postre era profiteroles y crumble de manzana. Los profiteroles eran extraños ya que se dividieron a la mitad con bolas de helado y la masa era dura. El crumble de manzana estaba frío como la piedra, por lo que se envió a calentar y el crumble simplemente estaba hecho de piezas duras y masticables. El servicio fue cálido, amable y muy rápido, que es lo que esperas y necesitas para cenar antes del teatro. El menú de bebidas es bueno con una amplia selección y no es caro para Londres. En general, no hay nada ofensivo sobre la comida, pero hay lugares mucho mejores con un valor similar cerca. Según la experiencia, no volveré.

Great pre-theatre place – pity about the gloomy lighting and the over loud music. Perfectly situated in the middle of Shaftesbury Avenue, close by many theatres. Food was delicious, service was excellent but our enjoyment was spoilt by the very low lighting (which meant you couldn’t read your menu or see your food) and the over loud music which made it hard to talk to each other. If these two things were changed, I would have given it a five star review.

Came across this restaurant and very pleased we did we only needed a light bite to eat and a glass of wine from the moment we walk in we were greeted very well and nothing was to much trouble we had a choice of tables which we great ordered food and wine didn’t have to wait to long but all freshly prepared and served with class our wine was served throughout the meal lovely a very clean and well run restaurant we will return next time we are in London thank you to all the staff

Went there for a snack at around 5pm. Sat at the bar as a solo diner. The service was good but it was dark. Could just about see my food

In januari 2020 hebben we in de avond bij Club Monico gegeten. Beneden zat een groot, luidruchtig gezelschap, het was geen enkel probleem om naar een ander, rustiger tafeltje op de bovenverdieping te verhuizen. Het eten was erg lekker voor een heel redelijke prijs!

Went to Cafe Monico before seeing Les Mis at the Sondheim theatre next door. We was greeted on arrival and staff offered to take our coats before escorting us to our table. We were asked about any food allergies or intolerances before being given the menu. The Cafe was on the dim side but not dark and this added to the ambience. There were also lit candles on the table. The restaurant was clean and our waiter very attentive. We ordered from the fixed price menu. Pate for starters followed by fish and chips and finished off with apple crumble. We ordered some homemade lemonade as drinks which had a tart taste. The food was well presented. The waiter explained the portions on the fixed price menu were smaller than on the normal menu and we were happy with this. The fixed price menu was a reasonable price for the location of the restaurant. The waiter brought us extra bread with our Pate and checked back that we were enjoying our meal. The fish is on the small side but we expected this and had looked at the reviews and photos on here prior to going so we knew. what to expect. The Apple crumble was warm apple, with a chunky biscuit top. It was served with vanilla ice cream. We enjoyed the dish but because the biscuit top was so chunky this would have been better served with custard. The toilets were clean and nice smelling, however there was only 2 toilets upstairs, one ladies and one men’s toilet. Also I found the music to be slightly too loud.

cozy atmosphere (one of the few places in the city center where you are able to talk without screaming) good wine selection and nice carbonara

Pre ordered as requested for a group of 12. Fixed price menu. To say it was disappointing is an understatement. Our drinks took ten minutes to arrive and the Gin was not as described on the menu or served in a Gin globe. The soup arrived almost cold. Our fish and chips was akin to a MacDonald’s with the fries being luke warm . We would have had more fish in four fish fingers. The crumble which most of us ordered and was supposed to be hot was cold. Extremely sweet apple and served with coffee ice cream !! Our waiter was excellent and tried his best to rectify. Such a shame as the ambiance and position of this restaurant is ideal for theatre land.

We visited here before seeing a show.The meal was mediocre at best and the restaurant so dark customers had to use the torches on their phones to read them. Apple crumble was served cold with coffee icecream!!.Won't be returning.

To be honest we all thought the food was very average, and the service was really slow and unattentive. I would pop in for a drink in the downstairs bar but would not eat there again. The prices really do not reflect the quality of the food
