Cafe Maxsim Tapas Restaurant in Wolverhampton

We had a late lunch on Friday at Cafe Maxsim. It was our first visit and we didn't know what to expect. As it was a pleasant afternoon we chose to sit "outside" and were delighted to be shown to a private patio area at the back of the cafe. This was a delightful place to enjoy some good Tapas and delicious homemade desserts. If you like Tiramasu - then their homemade is a must. There was a great selection of Teas and Coffees including Yerba Mate - served in a gourd container with special drinking straws. This cafe offers a very eclectic mix of Spanish, South American, Greek and Asian plates. The staff/owners were lovely. Very friendly and helpful. It was a perfect spot for a lunch. Will be back again for an evening meal and to experience the lights at night in the 'secret garden'.

Had a wonderful dinner here. Surroundings somewhat unique. Appetising dinner cooked to perfection and presented by a colleague who was so helpful. Excellent attention to hygiene and Covid compliant. Looking forward to our next visit soon as possible.

Visited last month with a group of friends. The service staff were lovely, albeit a little frantic - in their defence, it was a busy night and we were a large group. We ordered a fairly large selection of dishes. The crab cakes took the top spot, though they were served around 30 minutes after everything else. The manager acknowledged the mistake and gave us two portions, which was appreciated. Everything else was either OK or lacking. The humous was tasteless and the aranchini and mozzarella balls looked awfully similar, as though mass-produced with the same basic coating. The calamari looked like pale onion rings and the ratio of batter to squid was way off in my opinion. We actually visited a few years back and were underwhelmed, but thought we'd give it another go based on the reviews. Sadly, the general concenus was that we wouldn't return. Again, in their defence, we were a large group of arguably difficult diners... a couple of our group were late, which probably threw the kitchen team off balance (hence the average rating). I stress that the staff were lovely, and the food, though disappointing for a restaurant, was reasonably priced. My recommendation would be to make up your own mind.

Being a lover of Greek cuisine, and doing a far bit of it myself at home, my Greek choices at Maxsim's - Greek salad and Greek lamb meatballs - were sadly disappointing. The Greek salad came with lettuce and no lemon juice or red wine vinegar. The Greek lamb meatballs with spicy tomato sauce. Well! Lamb meatballs with just minced lamb, nothing else, dry, dull and bland. The spicy tomato sauce, more like passata with one piece of sliced jalapeno pepper in it. About as Greek as a mountain gorilla from Rwanda! Won't be rushing back. Staff are friendly and efficient and there's a nice ambience, shame about the food I had on the day.

The staff were so very welcoming during our trip and they were so polite. I love how much food and quality you get for the prices it is so worth it. The bread was banging and the food was flavoursome and tantalising, the spices really added to the Spanish background. The atmosphere was brilliant and fit the part. The staff were very helpful and kind, putting in their hard work to make the food all from scratch.

What a fabulous experience! We took 19 students, who study Spanish, from a local secondary school to experience some Spanish tapas. The owners could not be more welcoming, they catered for all of our needs and gave a fantastic tasting experience. All of the tapas were freshly prepared and the portions were very generous, well worth the money. We will definitely be back for another experience. The staff were really friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for such a great welcome & service.

Utterly gorgeous food at extremely reasonable prices. Staff are fab, the place has a real homely vibe. Don't be put off by the location, its a hidden gem in the middle of the city centre.

This was my first time at Cafe Maxim, but not my companion’s. If I have anything to do with it, it won’t be the last. This is a three-option menu; there’s a really good snack menu, some big plates and what we agreed on, some small-plate tapas which we could share. We agreed on eight dishes between three of us ranging from chill and garlic prawns to patatas bravas via ravioli and sea food sagnaki. In the end it proved slightly too much, so we didn’t finish it all, but it was certainly delicious. I can’t wait to go back and taste the rest of the menu. The food was perfectly cooked and full of flavour. The ravioli tasted fresh and the sauce was so inspiring I am trying to copy it. Staff were wonderful: attentive but not intrusive. Bring your own booze - there is a small corkage charge but it still works out cheaper and better than buying wine at restaurant prices. One word of warning - it’s a busy place, so reservations are recommended, particularly for larger parties.

It would be easy to walk past this delightful restaurant, but by doing so you would miss out on some of the best tapas on offer. My wife and I ordered 5 different plates plus deserts; and it would be difficult to say which was our favourite, such were the flavours and range on offer. The staff were helpful and attentive and provided a real value for money service. There is something for everyone with gluten free and vegetarian options; you can also bring your own alcohol if you wish. Whilst you may not expect much on first glance at the front window but enter inside and you will however be greeted with a cosy restaurant where you will be spoiled for choice and flavour.

Bit of a hidden gem. Food was absolutely outstanding. Staff were attentive and polite. Will be recommending to friends and family and will definitely be back ourselves.

I ate here last night on my way to a concert. Warm friendly ambiance, delightful waitress called Simona, had the calamari and the fish cakes - a perfect meal for the occasion. Highly recommended; I hope I have the chance to visit again.

We visited the cafe based on recommendations from friends who have been frequent customers of cafe maxims. There is nothing I could fault, the food was amazing. The size and portions were perfect. We shared around 15 plates with friends and every dish was gorgeous!...

The food never ceases to amaze me. We ordered our usuals favourite dishes and opted to try three dishes we had not tried before. We were not disappointed.Each dish we tried was full of exceptional flavour and presented beautifully.The staff were extremely friendly, as always, and the measures they have put in place with regards to Covid 19 make you feel safe and welcome.Would not think twice about returning here and trying more of the dishes on the menu. Cannot recommend Cafe Maxsim enough.

My fiancé and I went there for the first time last night. He is Greek so we both enjoy Mediterranean cuisine. We ordered several side-dishes and it was delicious overall.The terrace outside is beautifully decorated with a great atmosphere. Staff were very friendly and attentive and we met the owner too. Overall a great night out. The added bonus being able to bring your own alcohol. We will definitely be back. Highly recommended.

Super coffee and incredible organic feta served by wonderful hosts. We haven't visited Wolverhampton before as we live in Devon , but we are now looking for excuses to stop off for dinner at Cafe Maxsim.

I've visited Cafe Maxsim several times now and have always thoroughly enjoyed the meal. I took my wife there on our first date and we try to go back whenever we can. The food is always delicious, diverse and interesting, brought out in a relaxed but timely manner. The lady who I believe is the owner has always been very helpful and friendly, and it is always a joy to eat there.

Visited for the first time and I was very impressed...the service was friendly and highly efficient and food choice excellent. The 5 course tapas menu was varied in terms of choices and in my opinion good value. The food was freshly prepared to a high standard and arrived promptly and proved to be really tasty. The restaurant is unlicensed and allow customers to bring their own alcoholic drinks should they wish which may prove popular. I would definitely eat here again and have no hesitation in recommending it to other people and friends.

We visited Cafe Maxim for the first time following recommendation to go and we were not disappointed. We were made to feel so welcome by the lovely staff. Our waitress was knowledgeable when we asked for advice on dishes. Each mouthful was heavenly, fresh and very tasty. We will definitely be back soon for another visit.

Have been to Maxsim's so many times I've lost count. Beautiful food every time, and the friendly atmosphere is second to none!!! Over the years have introduced many friends to Maxsim Tapas Restaurant and they have always enjoyed it there, many return just like us.

Popped in here for the very first time with my Mum, as we both love tapas style dining. We ordered the "Choose any 5 dishes from the menu (mix & match) for only £25.99" offer. The following dishes were ordered:-1. Buñuelos de pescadoHome-made crab fish cake, stuffed with king prawns, mozzarella and garlic. Served with side salad and an aioli dip.2. Gambas Pil PilKing Prawns, sizzling in a chilli-&-garlic tomato salsa. Served with bread roll3. Chicken Enchiladas – Juanita Diced Chicken, tomato, onion, jalapeño, cheese and fresh coriander in a warm tortilla, covered with tomato sauce. Served with side salad4. Grecian lamb meat balls Home-made grilled lamb meat balls served with a warm pitta bread and spicy tomato sauce.5. Mushrooms MargheritaGrilled field mushrooms topped with mozzarella, cheese and tomato sauce.All the dishes ordered were very delicious, the atmosphere was busy, owners wife was very pleasant and friendly, and very accommodating. We visited on a wet and windy January evening, the reception was warm and service friendly but unobtrusive. The choice of tapas plates were authentic & wide, we chose mainly vegetarian & were very pleased with the flavours and size of portions. The option of 5 plates for £26 works well for a couple.I would definetly recommend the home made tiramisu, light and not over sweet, and the apple pie and ice cream was delicious and both portions generous.

Great little independent t on Wolves serving a varied menu, tapas, all freshly made and served hot. The albondigas meatballs are delicious, and the quesadillas too!

I already knew Maxsims is a great café for lunch or coffee with its varied Mediterranean menu, but it is also a great choice for a relaxing evening meal where you can take your time sampling an array of tapas or enjoy other meals from the extensive menu. All food is cooked to order from fresh ingredients and served with great care and attention. Lots of vegetarian choices and vegan friendly too. A real gem in the heart of Wolverhampton.

We visited Cafe Maxsim last night for the first time, I decided to book as I had read all the great reviews. We were not disappointed, the food was delicious and priced at £24.95 for five tapas to share and bring your own wine it is fantastic value too.

The food here is fantastic. Amazing quality, beautifully presented and excellent customer service. We had 5 course for £25 and every dish was a delight. Highly recommend and we'll definitely be returning.

This is a great little place, which we discovered after going to an afternoon theatre show. We went to another place a bit further down the road, but didnt like the look of it. So we were walking along looking for a place to eat...we spotted Cafe Maxsim and as we both love tapas, we took the plunge.

Any 5 items for 2 to share for £25 - bring your own wine and finish with a coffee that could restart your heart if it stopped. Will definitely return. Came here with my husband after desperately wanting some tapas! We tried to come for our wedding anniversary but they were shut due to holidays. But we managed to come and boy was it worth it! Tasty food and the service was great. Will definitely revisit.

First visit - how have we not been here before? Very impressed with the friendly welcome and the surroundings. Im gluten free and was extremely impressed at the range of GF foods available. Dont think I have ever seen such a range. We had the 5 dishes for £25 offer -all of the dishes we chose were tasty and well cooked. Forced ourselves to try the chocolate and cherry cheesecake - very glad we did. Gorgeous cake, creamy ice cream - and GF.

Found the many great reviews on Trip Advisor. I try to do this when out of our area. This place serves really tasty food. We ate at lunchtime, but the lady was taking telephone calls for bookings for the evening but they were already fully booked. From the menu we chose 5 dishes from their special offer which was under £26 for both of us. We ordered gambas pil pil (garlic and chilli heaven) lamb meatballs with a tasty tomato salsa, seafood saganaki, peri peri chicken and bruschetta with roasted veg and blue cheese. It was all just right. The service was lovely as the lady was very friendly and happy to help if we had any questions. BYOB if you want to drink alcohol. We were only visiting the area for a concert, but if this were local, we would be regulars without a doubt. All good in our books, try it out!

What a great Saturday afternoon, pre dinner drinks in town and then off for our early evening tapas . We had been once before and we had forgotten how amazing the food was , we were soon reminded again when our amazing food appeared! We booked a table just to be on the safe side, we were greeted by the lady owner who showed us to our table for two offering us the choice of two tables.We were given a menu and ordered crab cakes which had huge tiger prawns inside , cheese melt mushrooms,lamb meatballs, pizza fingers and duck spring rolls the timing was perfect just as we finished one dish another appeared, the service was great.All dishes come with a little salad and garnished with tiny roast patas (beautiful). We purchased a bottle of wine from the newsagents down the road who put it in the freezer for us whilst we had a couple of drinks elsewhere . Lighting could do with being dimmed a little but to be honest I couldn’t fault it . A month ago I was in Spain and ate tapas there, cafe Maxism is a thousand times taster and better . Me and my hubby will definitely recommend this restaurant and will look forward to returning soon .

A party of 10 of us visited last year, food is freshly cooked & delicious. We all ordered a starter & main which came at different times as they are cooked to order & what they really like is for you to share. Lovely atmosphere & take your own alcoholic drinks. Good value highly recommended

I visited here for a family birthday with my two children one who has celiac disease no gluten and the staff at the tapas bar made it very easy.

This restaurant is most definitely a jewel in the crown in Wolverhampton, it's absolutely fantastic.

We come here quite often as our go to tapas place. Again the service was spot on and the food was amazing. I love what they’ve done with the back courtyard.

We have always seen this towards the top of the best places to eat in Wolves and now we know why. Delicious range of tapas which took us straight back to the Med.

The front facade didn’t look too appealing but don’t let this put you off. The food is magnificent and the service is above and beyond as well. They have a special for 2 diners but since we were a group of 3 she let us have the special and add an extra 2 tapas dishes. They have dishes to suit every taste including vegan dishes and since it is not licensed you can take your own alcohol to enjoy with your tapas. The desserts looked very tempting and large portions but we were all simply too full up to indulge.

Having never heard of this restaurant was not sure what to expect. You can take your own drinks if you want to. We ordered the special five dishes for £25 and another dish as well, and were only charged the extra for the cheapest of the six dishes. The food is absolutely fantastic, the staff are helpful pleasant and friendly. We have been to other tapas type restaurants but this is easily the best. Had to finish off with apple pie with cinnamon and vanilla ice cream even though had little room to fit it in. Thoroughly recommend this restaurant and it really does deserve it 5 rating and no 1 status. Will be going back often.

Food was excellent, staff were friendly and so efficient, every course bought out just before we finished the last, which I've found not all tapas restaurants seem to get right. Lovely atmosphere, central location, will definitely become one of their regulars. 5*

I've eaten at Cafe Maxsim's on many occasions, both takeaway during the week for lunch or eating in the cafe with my daughter. Menu choices are great, they cater for everyone, and the atmosphere is relaxed and very friendly. A definite must try!

This was my second visit. The food is lovely and the service amazing. Highly recommend this restaurant. The food is reasonably priced as well.

A small party of us booked in for a birthday celebration, staff very attentive & patient while we decided on our order- there is a huge selection of food to choose from as well as a specials board, all cooked fresh to order. Portions are generous sizes, piping hot and delicious. Most of us had 2 tapas dishes each, a couple had the lasagne from the specials board so it took a little longer to get to the table but was worth the wait. Take your own drinks, lovely outdoor covered seating area. Highly recommended!

If anybody knows Wolverhampton then they will know that food options are very limited it’s either a cheeky Nando’s , a sub par pub meal at the sunbeam or a curry - Cafe Maxsim is so refreshing as you can’t beat a bit of Tapas

We've been visiting Cafe Maxsim's virtually since it opened and the food has always been superb. We'd booked in today for lunch after completing some shopping. We chose the 5 dishes for £25.99. We selected a Greek salad, Gambas Pil Pil, Potato wedges, Quesadilla wedges and Penne pasta in tomato sauce with chorizo and olives. We've chosen the same dishes in the past but today Max excelled himself. The food was "par excellence" This is a wonderful restaurant in the heart of the city that serves the most amazing food and with the added bonus that you can take your own alcoholic drink.

we came back to Cafe Maxsim after ages but we found the same amazing food and nice service from Chef Massimo and his wife. This is a proper Family run restaurant and we love the variety on the menu. we went for the 25.99 offer for 5 tapas and we picked: pizza on baguette bread, avocado and prawn bruschetta, warm chicken on salad, hummus and pitta and lamb meat ball Greek style. Cant fault a single thing. Fresh, tasty and well executed. Loved the pizzette and the lamb meatballs. We will surely go back soon.

Excellent menu including standard and specials. All freshly prepared. Didn't have to wait too long after ordering. Additional seating in garden area. My daughter who's a fussy eater enjoyed it and actually tried something different. Would recommend either lunch or evening visit.

I have used Maxim Tapas for our business buffets for a number of months. A great choice and mix of international food. Well worth a try.

Came again for lunch, this time with friends who had not been. Took 2 bottles of wine and we had the special 5 dishes for £26, well we had twice that for the 4 of us. First dishes came quickly and then more as the lunch progressed. Our friends were surprised to find such good food in a small cafe in Darlington Street. Very friendly owners welcomed us and made us feel at home. They close for July for a well earned month of holiday . We will come back again.

I had a very pleasant meal here one lunchtime after visiting the Art Gallery. The quality of the food is very good and the service fast and efficient, just what you need at lunchtime.

We visit Cafe Maxsim on Saturday lunchtime and had five tapas dishes for two people which cost £25.99. There was an excellent choice of food. The food arrived quickly and was very tasty. Would recommend.
